Great concept. Would come in very handy when adjusting SWR'S on a beam antenna. Of course you would need to make everything much stronger. But what you have there is perfect for an omnidirectional antenna. Great job 👍
On top of grounding the tower, One can put some fence post in the ground with 8' above ground to guy off of. Then NO one not even grandkids can get "clotheslined" by the guy wires. Just an idea. Been looking at a way to get a shorter lean over tower that was also telescopic, for a small inner city block. No more than 3m sections but something I could clear the second story I could throw something on the roof, but the keeper’s justifiable concern about a lightning strike, and being at the top of the hill, I’d like the option of not having the tallest conductive structure in the vicinity when the storms roll in off the coast. I have a 10m telescopic vertical I use for 20 & 40m. Haven’t tuned it up for 15 and it’s a little high in take off angle for 10m. That’s ok, but noisy on RX. I’d like to get a mag loop above the top of the house. Been looking at small towers and extensible poles. All are damn expensive and many overkill.
Interesting, I did something very much like yours several years ago, my arm got tired (I was experimenting with a beam made from 20m mobile whips, gave up on that) so I replaced the hand winch with a 12vdc ATV winch.
The only thing you need is a #6 Solid core copper wire going from the antenna mounting bracket down to a 8ft copper ground rod in the ground for lightning protection.
A suggestion might be to add another wood post with a V support on top to catch the antenna when you lay the antenna down to eliminate the need for the ladder? Perhaps a 10' post buried 2' to give you an 8' support?
Just a thought, would it help to have a grounding point where the top of the antenna lays? For thunderstorms. Something that's low enough to be low enough to be mow-able, yet you can clip to it when needed.
On 27MHz height will improve your signal when talking local . They say when talking skip the height don't matter as much . I don't know if that's true , I hear a lot of big signals coming from stations that are up in the mountains

For local work, height rules....high antenna's reach a lot further than low ones for local 27mhz work. Remember, when the band is not open, the maximum range no matter where you are on Earth is line of sight to the horizon.
How did you run your coax?. Did you Bury it?. If so how deep?. Did you run it through a protective pipe?. The reason I'm asking is that I really need to move my antenna away from my shop which is by trees. I do have a small area about 40+ feet away. Your idea has definitely cought my attention. Good job. Did you use concrete if so only the bottom? I plan on using a 6x6 10ft. 4ft deep. 6 above.. 2ft off ground attach another 6x6x10 with lag bolt so it can swing. "Post side by side one connected with 5/8 12in lag" two more lag bolts will be used when it's vertical to keep it from moving. That will put me 12ft vertical. A 10ft 1 1/4 pipe will be mounted on the last 2ft of the top 6x6. Making my antenna base 20ft. I just bought a Maco V58 antenna and it's 20ft tall. So all in all I'll be 40ft. All on one 6x6 that's 4ft deep. Online calculations show 10 80lb bags of concrete. Is this really necessary? Or just do 5 or so in the bottom and then fill with dirt? Love your little setup man! This one is roughly 3 1/2 feet in the ground. Just a regular post hole digger size hole and I may have put about 3/4 of a bag of concrete in there with it. It doesn't sway at all.

That looks a lot like my antenna, that is when I bought it new, not so much now. Looks like the V5/8 which is a good antenna. I had mine set up about 50 foot in the air. Now sure as to what happened to it. I think it may have gotten hit by an airplane. The top section got bent at about a 50 degree angle. After a few months of begging a few guys to help me I got taken down and we put back together. about a year later we had some really hard winds blow through the area. I found the top section of the antenna at the back edge of my property. When I first set this up it was fun. But after awhile people got to arguing and wanting to pick fights. Some people would do anything to cause problems and the foul mouth crap some would say just turned me off. So I quit.
One thing that I did to create a "portable" guy wire base was to use 55g plastic (HDPE) drums filled with gravel... That puts the wire attachment point up high enough that if you manage to trip over it or "clothesline" yourself, you *deserve* to have it happen to you since you're either not paying attention or you're an idiot... ;) You'll end up with about a 740 lb anchor with it filled up with gravel and a bit more if you add water to take up the space between the pieces of gravel... I did not cut the top out of the barrel, I just removed the 2" bung plug and shoveled the gravel on top of the barrel, stopping periodically to brush it into the bung hole... It's "portable" in that you can drag it where you need it in your pasture / yard with a truck / tractor... If it is on a concrete slab, it's easy to move it with a couple of pieces of PVC pipe underneath it as rollers...

A 2"x4" stand that is about 6-7' tall to let the end rest on instead of the ladder.
At 27mHz, there little reason to be above 20ft. The added height doesn't do much for you, unless you use a beam antenna

I ran mine through some white PVC pipe. It's 2 inch diameter to allow me to run other wire through it if I need to. It's about a foot deep.

How long has this been up now? Any problems with wind as far as the wood structure?
It's been up well over a year with no issues. Wind only makes the antenna sway a little but nothing terrible.
How is the cable attached and how is the hinge mounted?

So I counted the turns on the crank, and it's about 100 turns to lower and another 100 turns to raise it.
I opted to use this winch over an electric in order to keep the cost down.
