To anyone reading to this. Sometimes you just gotta look back on your work and compare yourself to the quality, aesthetics and craftmanship all the Pros are putting into their work. Sometimes you just gotta be honest and realize this might not be for you. You probably are good, but just not good enough. And there's nothing wrong about it. Just sit down with yourself, be honest and search for something that you will enjoy doing and that you are good at.
You can learn to sing, but it doesn't matter how hard you try, chances are you might never compare to MJ, Whitney Houston, Celine Dion, Sinatra... The same applies to 3D/VFX.

Amazing advice, honest and grounded. Yes it's great to not give up on your dream on working on video games. But being static and not improving because you don't get the exact job will be a blow to anyone's confidence. But expand an build your knowledge and it can happen with time.

Thank you for this. I do 3D modeling/visualizations, I had experiences working for a clothing company doing store interiors and perspective booths, also did 3D stage mock ups and lighting for some events company, a bit of archiviz, doing freelance work of product renders and video presentation. Yeah. I agree with you. Just keep growing and applying what you have. Again, thanks for your advice, man.

Having completed the animation degree at the college you used to teach at, I definitely agree with all these points. At the moment I’ve been working on a gun model to work on my hard surface skills and cater to some jobs I’ve seen that do advertisements or even VR training for officers and military. There’s lots of companies that do architecture renderings and landscape renderings as well. At the moment I feel that my portfolio just isn’t showcasing enough of this sort of work.

That's why if you see my portfolio it has all kinds of things, some people say that is bad and that you should dedicate to that specific thing you want, but being broad helped me to find jobs.

Great honest advice! The labour standards to cheap overseas shops generally aren't good. I've worked in movie and video game companies where we'd get the work back from overseas clients and it has to be redone or communication culture doesn't translate correctly and we have to settle with mediocracy. Production management just care about it getting done regardless of standards in the name of profit.

Wow great advice, my mindset is always to try to get a games industry job, but I have also been very frustrated with doing art test after art test and still not making it... I will try what you have said. Any 3d job would be better than construction or landscaping hehehe

Nowadays we all need to be versatile, no matter what s the profession. Focusing in just one area, paints you into a corner. Diversify...

So just to add something to the discourse. Formal education serves two purposes, across the board with a an added caveat that you could be the single best person at the given job and without that piece of paper you aren't getting an interview.
First being the knowledge gained, best practices, methods etc, even the best will waste time with bad habits and poor knowledge, that also being said in anything tech related you will have to teach yourself, because the knowledge you leave the classroom with will be old knowledge.
Second, and the most important is connections. The reason the best schools and universities are exclusive clubs isn't necessarily because they have the best teachers, it's because the best went there, and they keep tabs. So if you go to a school don't just work hard and keep your head down, make waves, make friends, otherwise you will struggle getting anywhere when you leave.

This is great. I feel the real shame with more beginners to 3D Art, It's shadowed by the myth of working in a game studio. There is a lot more options in the world of 3D art. And any other art with-in the "Game" industry. The agility to create/re-create any art in any software is a great skill, be more adventurous with your search.

I had a similar problem, but I’m a level designer. What I did, is apart from uploading a walkthrough video, I also broke down my whole design process. From the concept, to why I added some things, and why I think it’s good. It really helps.

Even getting a job is a job. Any job, nevermind a 3D job. "Don't vent online" sounds pretty much like don't cry in public. Not criticising the advice, I value it greatly, I just feel like it showcases something really wrong with humanity as a social species.
Going back to the topic of the video, finding people to get gigs, etc is really difficult.

I wanted to ask u a weird kinda question. I dont think its too weird but hey every1 is different.
Im looking to generate passive income from youtube. I see u got 1.5 mill views. Ive heard stories and seen vids on -- if u reach a million views its anything from $300 to 2 or 3k . I understand this depends on the quality of ads. If u got apples new product on yer ads your gonna make more than them ads that has that dude screaming "I MADE 5 FIGURES A MONTH WITH NO STOCK,,NO KNOWLEDGE AND LITTLE START UP, APPLY NOW!!!!"...
    Be interesting to know. Cheers.

    • @MR3DDev
      @MR3DDev  3 года назад

First of all my RUclips revenue is way below $300, it mostly depends on your subject from what I've seen. Example here in the US channels that talk about money and real state earn a ton more per view than I do. If you wanna make money on RUclips, tutorials is 100% not the way to go xD
