As the CEO of COMPUTER DOCTOR, operating mainly in the Charlotte, North Carolina area, I buy and sell computers as well as troubleshoot and fix them. I must admit that a few times, I need information like this to help me with some 'new and tough' issues. This video has been extremely helpful to me. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHARING.
This video was very informative to me. My wife's laptop was going nuts with video connection and I had no idea how to get to the plug. But, this video showed all the right ways to open it up without hurting it or paying way to much money. Thank you man your the best. And my wife love you for it too.
I just thought I'd get back to you about my experience. I got the SSD installed in the end. Such a pain in the be-hind. Thank you very much for your detailed video.
Great tutorial! You forgot to mention to remove the four screws marked "M2.5 x L5" from the top of the keyboard plate at 8:15 - 8:30. I was following along and realized my cover plate wasn't coming off so easy! lol! Great educational vid! Thanks for posting.
Thank you for this video!! Just fixed my laptop, I thought it was going to cost me a lot of money but I decided to give it a try! You are friggin awesome!
I've had a cooling pad since day one, because my last laptop overheat quite a bit, too. I also used an air blower to remove any dust off the fans, to no avail. I'm sending it to warranty, to hell with it. Thank you for posting this video, anyway; it helped me remove some stuff that helped me get to the fan.
I have done this exact same thing. No need to fret. I would try taking a screwdriver that fits, sort of, and put the screwdriver at an angle and add a little pressure, than quickly attempt to turn the screw off. This may or may not work. You could also try using an allen wrench or even a hex screwdriver. Best of luck!! Just make sure you apply enough pressure (don't break it) but enough to turn the screw and turn it quick. Thanks for watching and please subscribe!!!
Thank you!! Yes, I have worked on at least 5 of these and they did have some slight differences in the tear down process. I agree with you, getting the tear down manual from the manufactures website is really the best option. Thanks for watching!! Please show your support and subscribe!
Yes, this lever should snap up. If it doesn't, try pulling the little notch-like tabs on the sides of the cable out. Be gentle when working with this cable and or plastics involved. When they break, it is VERY difficult to get them plugged-in and sitting just right again.
Yes, I have worked on this model as well. Reminds me of older Thinkpad models really. They also have most of the important stuff underneath the palm-rest.
@Ramzez51 The graphics card on the standard non-upgraded model is on the motherboard itself. The easiest way to replace this would be to replace the motherboard altogether with an upgrade graphics card. You'll find that this is pretty standard on most basic laptop models.
Very sad to hear you are experiencing issues. Sadly, this is typical to hear from a Dell computer. Their computers over the years have sadly depreciated in terms of quality. Best of luck! Please show your support and subscribe. :)

Awesome video! I'm looking to upgrade the ram on my dell inspiron n5110 and according to Crucial it can go up to 8gb. After seeing this I'm not so nervous about upgrading myself since it looks super easy! Thanks!
Yes, I agree. I have taken at least 5 apart each with slightly different tear-downs. You are right, the best option is to pickup the dell tear down manual for your specific model. Thanks for watching!! Please show your support and subscribe!
Hi - this is the GPU. It gets VERY hot. Try using a notebook cooling pad to keep temps down. Best of luck! I appreciate your support. Thanks for watching and please subscribe!!
I upgraded my Acer Timeline X with the same processor as this Dell to 8GB of ram...and it did give it a nice little boost. Nothing to write home about, but fair. The thing is, with these Intel HD/3000 series graphics on newer laptops, they suck on the RAM a little bit. Don't mean to cut in on your action there ITConflict...I had to use this video to upgrade my friend's N5110 to 7200. All the goodies on here and they give you a 5400 to churn it with. Feh.
I have a Dell Inspiron N5110 and I did this a couple of days ago to swap out the hdd for an ssd and do a ram upgrade to 8G and it works fine now. I did exactly what you show in the video. I opened the RAM bay and then removed the 11 screws from the base. After that I turned the laptop over and continued doing the exact same thing as you... the next day and thinking about that I wondered myself... why did I take off the eleven screws from the base? What did I get doing that? . I think there's no reason to do it. You just hace to take off the keyboard, unplug it from the next base, and remove the 5 screws that support the motherboard and that's all. Maybe I'm wrong but I still dont understand why I had to remove the 11 screws from the base. Anyway, thanks tyo video tutorials like yours I was able to upgrade my laptop. Thanks.

@7musicbeast Hi and thanks for watching! I cannot agree anymore. The design of this model is a bit unconventional. nice video. this seems to be the same design as my one, with the hdd under the motherboard. im hoping to put an ssd in, and ive got to this part at end of video. hopefully i can complete the job.
Yea man, that's Dell for you. Just have patience and give it another shot. Let me know if you have any further questions. Thanks again for watching my videos and subscribing!
If you look at the video at 10:00 the graphics card is located near the bottom left. The fan is top left, processor just under/nearby and graphics card below the processor. Typically, the hard drive isn't really a hot component. Most likely, the heat you are generating is a combination of the processor and graphics card alone. Try blowing out the fan. Also, you could apply new thermal paste. Thanks for watching and please SUBSCRIBE!!!!
to be gentle, get a plastic pry tool - they're an essential part of a phone repairer's toolkit and it's perfect for something with as many small steps as this - i'd say this is an 8/10 for difficulty.

Hey man, really great work with the laptop, I came by your video when I was searching for a solution for a problem that I've had with my laptop for one time, during some heavy hardware consuming game, the laptop suddenly hibernated, obviously it became heated so it hibernated, what I know is that is a bad sign that the cooling system isn't any longer performing like past, I've had the same with my old HP laptop and ended up hibernating like daily, so how would I prevent this to happen my laptop?
Hi, that all depends on what you want to accomplish. For instance, if you have 2 ram slots and you currently have (1) 2GB stick in slot A and nothing in slot B than you would be adding ram. If you wanted to jump to 8GB of RAM, you would be replacing all RAM with new 4GB sticks. I hope that answers your question. Best of luck! I appreciate your support. Thanks for watching and please subscribe!!
Hi! What tools do I need to open it up? I'm looking for a tool set that will do the whole job. Also, I spilled water on my keyboard and it seems to have clogged one of the keys, which makes my laptop beep on startup, anyway to fix this? I also have 2 USB ports that won't register devices, and my Date and Time don't save after shutdown. Is there anyway to fix my motherboard? Will any cleaner work?
Hi, nice tutorial :) But I want to know what's the maximum ram that we can put on Dell inspiron N5110 15R? on dell website it is said that it's 8 gb and on intel site it's said 16 gb??

I went through the manual. Just being physically difficult to remove. What is the knack to get that cable to come out... has it actually got a little metal lever on top holding it firmly in place? Should I have try to snap it up?
Some models are different to be honest. The best way to tell if your model is upgradeable is to get into the guts of the system. I will say though, if it is upgradeable there are other easier upgrades I would try first. If speed is what you want, try more RAM. Max it out if you can and your system supports it. Thanks for watching!! Please show your support and subscribe!
I have overheating problems (it stores up heat inside causing it to overheat) so I want complete access to the fans. Can you make a bid on how to do that on this model please?
Hi, you can apply some compressed air to the intake and exhaust vents. This will clean the computer of any dust. Best of luck! I appreciate your support. Thanks for watching and please subscribe!!
Well, to clean the system fan / processor fan can be done by not having to dismantle the system. If you turn the laptop over with the bottom-side up, you should see an air intake and exhaust vents. Use a compressed can of air and blow air into these vents. You will here the fan spin and begin to see dust fly out. This should be easier for you. Thanks for watching!! Good vid mate. I've got this laptop too. Owned it for about 6 months, - CORE I-5 with 4 GB ram. But it's started to run a bit slow now. Can I upgrade to 8 GB Ram okay, and will that speed it up much? My guess is that it will, and it looks quite easy to do.... What do you think? And how much will that upgrade cost me? Thanks.
I just have one question: Do you need to unscrew any screws to remove the keyboard or do you have to just pull it out with those little pins above the function keys? A friend spilled a little wine on the enter key and it's sticky now. I just want to clean it properly. Thank God that there was no damage done to the components... Do you have any advice?
16GB highly unlikely on this laptop to be honest. The board should max at 8GB but I would double check on that. Checkout crucial(dot)com and search for the laptop and upgrade information. This site is amazing at identifying the type of RAM needed, system max, and cost involved. Best of luck and thanks for watching!! Please show your support and subscribe!

Upgrading to 8GB should be fine as long as you have a 64bit OS. Check this out before you waste the time and money in purchasing RAM for your computer. Overheating already? A few things to remember are whenever putting your computer through heavy use keep it on a flat surface. This helps with air flow. Also, try putting some compressed air into the air vents to blow out any obstruction. You might also want to consider purchasing a laptop cooling pad. These are amazing at keeping hot laptops cool especially when gaming. Thanks for watching!! Please show your support and subscribe!!!
Sucks the newer Inspirons are set up this way. Got it delivered, had my 7200 ready for immediate upgrade, was looking around for the two screws to slide it out and ended up here. It appears it's due to the board(s) set up inside so the designers had to get cute in order to stuff it all in there. Thanks for the video.
Hi - it sounds like your laptop is seriously overheating. This happens with graphics intensive games. Try cleaning the unit out and applying new thermal paste. Also, sit your computer on a laptop cooling pad. Best of luck! I appreciate your support. Thanks for watching and please subscribe!!
It sounds like your computer is not recognizing the new hardware your plugging into the unit. What are you plugging in? What operating system are you running? Best of luck! I appreciate your support. Thanks for watching and please subscribe!!
There is not a BIOS password set by default. However, you can easily access the BIOS by rebooting the computer and tapping F2. Once in BIOS, look for BIOS password. WARNING! Once you set a BIOS password DO NOT forget it. Best of luck. Thanks for watching! Show your support and please subscribe!

I appreciate your kind words. Thanks for watching my videos and please remember to subscribe!!! PS. Google for the repair manual. This will actually give you the precise instruction for the tear down of this unit. Also, my video should help much too!
It shouldn't be too difficult. Did you get a tear-down manual online? Are you having issues because there are more parts to disassemble or because it is physically difficult to remove? Thanks for watching my videos and please remember show your support and subscribe!! :D
Sure - I have done this in the past. However, I always prefer to use the same make/model of RAM. It's just my preference though. Most likely, it will work just fine :D Best of luck! I appreciate your support. Thanks for watching and please subscribe!!

I'm watching this with my Dell Inspirion N5110 hehe :)
What Make/Model of ram do you have in there?
Just curious because one is coloured blue...
The engineers who came up with this brilliant design must have been smoking some serious Panamanian Ditch Weed....
It sounds like your computer is not recognizing the new hardware your plugging into the unit. What are you plugging in? What operating system are you running? Best of luck! I appreciate your support. Thanks for watching and please subscribe!!
I'm having trouble disconnecting monitor cable, which you do after the processor fan.
The one on the back and on the right of the laptop. The plastic inside a USB 3.0 port is usually blue.
i want to clean just the cooler,do i need to do all this,or is there a easier way,i repeat just cleaning one pice?

Thanku for your time.
Can you make a video about cleaning? I really like to clean my CPU! Thanks!

I have a doubt.
what are the two usb 3.0 ports of this model?
It shouldn't be too difficult. Did you get a tear-down manual online? Are you having issues because there are more parts to disassemble or because it is physically difficult to remove? Thanks for watching my videos and please remember show your support and subscribe!! :D
Sure - I have done this in the past. However, I always prefer to use the same make/model of RAM. It's just my preference though. Most likely, it will work just fine :D Best of luck! I appreciate your support. Thanks for watching and please subscribe!!
