You saved my life. We had a dead N5030 with loads of holiday photos on it. was able to get the drive out, put it in a caddy and get the photos off.
I also use a small zip tie to pop the top apart. I have had to replace the DVD drive at least 3 times. Replacing the hard looks way easier, thanks for the video
Twice here! I wonder why the DVD drive fails so often. Aside from that, this is a super reliable laptop, my gf's had the display on constantly for 10 years. LED backlights are amazing. Oh yeah, at some point the fan wears out when it's on high for years and years, but that's like 10-15 bucks, usually after the CPU thermal paste dries out lol. In retrospect, the most underrated yet powerful laptop of it's era.
You should generally remove the keyboard on most laptops first, to make accessing the ribbon cables easier for the touchpad, buttons & keyboard.
Also, do not use a screwdriver to separate the two plastic halves, always use plastic
tools, to avoid damaging the plastic finish. If you absolutely insist in using metal tools,
metal dentistry tools work best, especially the hooks, the rounded corners help to not mar the finish, and the hook shape makes keeping it inside the shell while you slide easy.
Not a problem. I'm a repair tech at my local computer shop and was just mystified to why Dell hid the hard drive. It's usually one of the easiest brands to remove a hard drive from.
Glad to have helped my friend. I appreciate your support. Thanks for watching and please subscribe!!
Excellent guide into making something look easier than it seemed. :)
Very true! Early in my career I remember making that very mistake. Best thing to do is next time you dis-mantle a computer, use something to label your screws or at the very least help you remember where they go. Also, if while screwing the screw in, if it seems difficult then its possibly not the right screw-hole and/or screw.
great tutorial video helped me a bunch!!! Greetings from Round Rock, TX!!!
Thanks for watching! Hey hey we're neighbors! Hello from Austin!

Am still using this Laptop in 2018
Yes! That's sounds just like them. I'm sure you went through the chain-of-command? I always ask to speak with supervisors etc etc. I have seriously done 45 minute phone calls just to make things right. In the end and 1 GIANT headache later, it ends up being worth it. From now on, only build custom systems. Building computers is easy and fun.
always good to have a magnetized screwdriver handy.
? Does everything I upload to this laptop automatically go to the hard drive

Seriously... the best 'how to' video I've seen for anything on YT. :-) Just one question... after I get the new hard drive plugged in and fasten and screw everything back together, what's going to happen when I turn in on? Will it boot up normally? Will I have to download anything special as far as software goes? Thanks a lot, HUGE help! (And, you saved me a LOT of money, so thanks again!)
Michelle
basically i yanked it off and ripped all the stuff out and now i cant put it all back in
If you are fortunate enough to just be upgrading the RAM, take out the four skrews for the keyboard, to remove just that...
Your a good teacher thanks
It's easier to plug the palm rest cables and keyboard cables in if you remove the keyboard. There are 3 tabs at the top to the keyboard securing it to the palm rest.
Always double-check these videos by googling "laptop type"+ support manual, then you get manufacturer instructions. "n5030 support manual" gives you specific instructions in what order to do things (e.g. remove the keyboard first for not harming the connectors when removing palmrest. Also, top part (display side) of palmrest may be tricky to unhinge and may need quite hard prying.
To access the RAM etc. more easily take the keyboard off first. Two screws on the back need to be removed before though, they're left and right of the service tag essentially, slightly diagonal from each other. Push the clips back above F1, F6 and Insert keys. Then use a plastic prising tool to lift from the top edge gently. You'll find 4 cables to remove, but they're easily done with care and easily returned too. Then you can unscrew the base and pop the clips to separate the facia from the base as shown in this video.
You are right my friend. I appreciate your input. Thanks for watching and please subscribe!!
Very hard to say. Your best bet is to take one of the screws and slowly screw it in one of the holes. WARNING be sure that it does not start driving through on the other side. You could also find a complete tear-down manual on Dell's website. This may help you find which correct hole each screws belongs in. Honestly though, it should be easy enough to just slowly screw one of the screws in to see if it fits. Hope that helps! Please show your support and subscribe!!!
Thanks for the short cut!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi I am going to replace the HDD soon. Thanks for the demo. The buttons stopped working on my Palm Rest/ Mouse-pad Is the ribbon cable dirty or do the buttons actually both go defective? I tried reinstalling the Drivers already.
Is the N5010 a little more difficult? The videos I have seen on RUclips take almost the entire thing apart? This was a little less intrusive.
Good Job and Thanks.
BTW, what is the labor cost for a N5010. DELL shows the 500GB DRIVE for about $80.
Very cool!! Thanks for watching! Show your support and please subscribe!
I cannot agree with you more. I do this to about 10 - 15 computers a week. Stay at it. Best of luck. Thanks for watching! Show your support and please subscribe!
Thank you!! I appreciate your kind words. Thanks for watching and please subscribe!!
Good vid.
FYI - You can easily remove the keyboard itself and unplug those two cables you were having issues with.
Yes that's the way to do it, much easier!
HA! N for Nancy :D I appreciate your support. Thanks for watching and please subscribe!!
Does the keyboard not clip off on that one? Then you can easily undo the trackpad and keyboard connectors. It works like this on the 5050
LOL - Everyone has their opinion on Dell. Mine is the pretty much the same as yours. I have dealt with A LOT of computer manufactures and it seems through the years Dell has lost most of their personal touch especially in customer service. Sorry to hear you had a bad experience with them. I myself have had plenty of those. Thanks for watching my videos!! Show your support and please subscribe!!
Hopefully IT AUSTIN will answer soon... help...
I would like to correct the information on the video regarding the keyboard and touchpad cables - the keyboard can be easily removed by pressing the three latches on the top of the keyboard. The keyboard comes out easily and the cables can be reattached very simply.
Hi,
I took apart my laptop before posting and I realised that two of the screws are shorter than the others. Can you tell me which holes the shorter screws should go in ?
Thanks :)
thanks for the video! I was afraid I'd have to disconnect all those ribbon cables!
THANKS a lot dear for help. May Allah show you the the right path of life.
Nope. This model the card is soldered on the board. Thanks for watching and please subscribe!!!
Hello, I have no idea what kind of hard drive i should get for the the N5030, for a reasonable price. What certain external hard drive can i buy for 50$ that is good? Thank u for your time.
Thank you very much.
YES! Not sure what their engineers were thinking with the design of this system. Most other Dell's the hard drive is literally 4 screws away. Thanks for watching my videos and please subscribe. PS I have more videos coming with higher quality too. I have been very busy opening a new computer repair shop.
You should just detach the keyboard from the case. You can expose the two ribbon cables (for keyboard and trackpad) and easily detach / re-attach them.
Hello,
Thank you for the video , unfortunately i've seen your video after i removed the keyboard with those connecting cables.
Can you please provide some info on how to place them back , the space is very narrow and tricky also.

So after you replace the hard drive whats next. Ive already had this fixed 2x so im attempting to replace my own hard drive as highering someone else is getting costly. I purchased a new hard drive and windows 7 (Because thats the one i like). is there something else I need to reinstall?
Which HDD support for old replesment? Which HDD support of this laptops?
wat does it mean when a dell N5030 is beeping?
Get your hands on a Hemostat forcep clamp. They are real good at reaching those far away ribbons and connectors. For 2 bucks, they reduce the pain in the arse some of these laptops can be.
Hey did you install a sata drive? I have a n5030 Inspiron and I need it perform faster will it hurt for me to upgrade the hdd to a sata and to upgrade the ram to 8gb? Thanks
Thank you
It is much safer to tilt the keyboard (three tabs at the top), unclip the three conductive tapes, and then remove the cover. It will take an extra 2 minutes, but you don't destroy anything if you lift the cover too much.
hello, is it same like inspiron n5020, it look almost the same in design, outside. could you tell me my windows won't get started up, and repair doesn't work too, i have no image there to recover as i tried and found out. and i tried to format, it took a lot of time and now nothing happens, it says setup is starting, but nothing more, it is almost an hour now, also nothing happening, i saw ur vedio of replacement of n5030, is my thing an issue with hard drive?will replacement make any different

Great video,thank you111
How do I take out the speakers?
thankyou, IT conflict
Hi, you can google the computer tear down manual for re assembly. Sorry to know you're experiencing issue. No need to fret though, I'm sure with patience and the manual you can figure it out. Best of luck! I appreciate your support. Thanks for watching and please subscribe!!
can you change the video card ?
I have the same laptop but something inside came out and I don't know what to put back in so if I send you a video or take a picture of what it looks like in the laptop you think you can send a email or make a video for me to show me how to fix it PLEASE ?
Hi - using a hard drive caddy you should be able to do so. Google hard drive caddy for n5030 and see what you can find. Each computer make/model is different so don't give up. You may be able to accomplish this!!! Best of luck! I appreciate your support. Thanks for watching and please subscribe!!
Cheers boss
Can i install my new ssd into this n5030 ????
My one is unbelievably slow does replacing the hardrive make it fast again?
Install a SATA SSD instead and upgrade the RAM to 4x2GB. You may also try running Linux if you don’t wanna spend the money but it shouldn’t be too costly.
No worries! Thanks for watching!! Best of luck! I appreciate your support and please remember to subscribe!!
Sir hamara leptop dell Inspiron n 5030 on nahi ho raha hai please help me
Hi, thanks for watching my videos! I appreciate the information man, I will keep that in mind next time I am working on one of these laptops. Thanks for watching. Please show your support and subscribe!!!
Good
You push the keyboard out from the bottom or prying gently with a slim prying tool and is easy to remove and take out the ribbons to the keyboard and touchpad. You don't remove or plug them in like shown in this video that would be stupid.
basically this applies to most laptops.
Hi, checkout the beep codes on dell's website! Best of luck! I appreciate your support. Thanks for watching and please subscribe!!

Sounds like you need to replace the hard drive. If you don't need the data, replace the drive and re-install the operating system. Dell should have provided some kind of discs at purchase. Thanks for commenting and please subscribe!!!
thanks for replying
