You think that I-4Orlando sucks, try I-94 Chicago. And for all my other 18 and 2 wheeled comrades, sorry for the wind buffeting.
Oh yeah, one other thing, if you see a semi pulling a container, especially a shorter container (20-45 feet), get away from the trailer wheels ASAP. The tires that most of the chassis use are the cheapest things the chassis pools can get.
And remember. 4 wheels moves the body, 2 wheels moves the soul. 18 wheels moves everything else.

I’ve been thinking more in the mindset of riding a motorcycle even in my car and it’s genuinely made me a far safer driver even in my car. We really do get way to comfortable driving our giant metal death machines every day. Thank you!

If people used most of these tips while driving cars they would be better drivers. It's my opinion that if everyone was forced to learn to drive stick, drive a motorcycle and a box truck or other large truck to see how they function and drive that maybe it would help them be better drivers. It would show the difference in reaction time required. The amount of concentration needed. Maybe it would help, maybe not. The stupid shit people do driving daily is just a peev of mine.

    • @DanteYewToob

Or had parents like my mom. Growing up she would have us all help with driving to teach us. "Is it okay to pull out? Can we make this turn? What lane is open?" She taught us respect for bikers early on, and made sure we all kept an eye out for them if they were in her blind spot.
None of my sisters or myself have ever had an accident, and my closest sister and I both ride bikes. We learned to respect the road young and it made a massive impact on us.
By 13-14 we would be checking the mirrors for her instinctively, we would call out bikes just on reflex, and never screwed around. She never treated a car like a fact of life, taken for granted as a necessity to get places. She taught us the truth, the road is a dangerous and should be respected. You shouldn't get complacent on the road because you do it every day, you should treat each trip as if it could end in disaster.
With a healthy respect and fear of the roads here in FL none of us became paranoid or afraid, we just drive carefully and safely, and we still have fun sometimes.
I think most people assume driving is their right, that it's just a way to get places and it isn't a big deal. They ignore the many deaths that occur daily, and hourly on roads due to being complacent. Parents should teach their kids that driving is a privilege and you shouldn't drive if you can take it seriously. Also, too many people assume roads are just for cars and treat motorcycles and trucks like invaders or intruders on their turf. That attitude needs to change. Badly.

USA... and Egypt.. and to this day.. I drive a lot like you do.. I remember ages ago when I was in the States.. a cop who was giving me my driver's test said to me, jokingly, "drive defensively... think like every one else on the road are people who escaped from a mental asylum and they stole a bunch of cars and are running around rampant in them" :) Good video! Hey man,
I just wanted to let you know how valuable your videos have been to me and my motorcycle journey . I got my 1st motorcycle last month 2019 iron 883. I purchased the damn thing before I had ever even ridden anything with 2 wheels lol. Initially I was terrified and kept thinking to myself “how the hell am I supposed to just ride this damn thing” even after watching tons of videos on RUclips about how to ride. It wasn’t until I stumbled across your channel and started watching your tutorial videos that it all started to click!! I began watching your how to ride a motorcycle videos religiously over and over, day and night for 5weeks. I even had my bike for 2 of those 5 weeks before I finally felt comfortable enough to take that first ride lol. I had planned on only riding back and forth on my street, but once my feet left the ground and I shifted into 2nd I really couldn’t believe how natural everything felt after studying your videos for so long I almost felt as if I could hear you in my head hahaha. Well you can say things didn’t quite go as planned bc I damn sure didn’t just stay on my street….I rode all around town and fell in love!! Been riding daily since and I continue to grow and learn more techniques. I’ve also continued watching more of your channel along with some other channels that touch on motorcycle safety so that I can continue to learn and grow. I can’t imagine how difficult it would’ve been had I just hopped on before watching your channel or had I attempted to ride using some really shitty advice from some other creators. You’ve helped myself and so many other rider’s not only learn how to ride a motorcycle, but how to do it safely and correctly and you continue to teach us safe MC practices. I hope for you nothing but the best in life along with many many blessings🙏🏼 THANK YOU BLOCKHEAD!!

You earned a sub from me as soon as you made your comment about people merging on ramps! I drive a semi and I can’t tell you how frustrating it is watching people playing with their phones, food, themselves, whatever, all the way to the end of the ramp and merge lane, and THEN looking at traffic before drifting in front of my big a$$ at some ungodly slow speed.
Bikes and semis have a few things in common, like people acting like (and treating us) like we’re simultaneously in the way AND not even there, doing something stupid to cause a wreck, and then blaming us for it. It’s ridiculous.
All you riders out there, enjoy it! I’m up here just a’ watch in’ ya!

when changing lanes or merging I pick the spot I want to be then drive to that spot, I had to teach my girl friend that, she was one of those that would slow down to get behind another vehicle, she say finding a spot is much easier...

Traffic here in the San Francisco Bay Area is usually gridlocked several hours a day Seven days a week. The California Highway Patrol advocated lane splitting because it's safer when done properly for the cyclist and relieves traffic congestion. At intersections, it's especially important to lane split so you don't blend into the car in front of you. In my nearly 50 years of riding, I've been rear ended at intersections while stopped 3 times. With so many distracted drivers looking at their phones it's really important to be vigilant and defensive. I see many others lane splitting every day in grid locked freeway traffic at ridiculous speeds. I've even seen a few riding wheelies between cars! Slow down bikers......save the speed and stunts for the open road. By the way, I feel for all off you who can't lane split.
By the way, several months ago the freeway signs that display Amber alerts and traffic conditions had "share the road" and "watch for motorcycles" and several billboards on the main freeways had the same messages.

Great insights, Blockhead. Great advice. I’d take exception, though, to riding more than 10 to 15 mph faster than traffic in a neighboring lane when they’re stacked up. You can nearly ALWAYS count on one of them to pull into your lane. Lower speed differential = more escape options.

Not in most places in America. Many use it as the fast lane and if you’re going to ride in that lane, then you have to get comfortable at 100 mph to ride slightly faster than the fastest drivers

This video really enlightens me to road safety and etiquette for riding on public roads. I remember that leaving yourself an out whenever you ride with traffic is best. I just picked up my first motorcycle to train on and learn basic things like clutch use, braking and turning. I chose a 1982 Yamaha Seca XS400 for my trainer. Middle of the road and some power. Thanks for sharing your video and wish you all the best!

When possible, watch the person in the vehicles around you. Don't just see the car and it's turn signals but see the person inside. Many times you can see that they're getting ready to change lanes before they signal (if they even do) by there actions inside the car. Them turning to look and see if anyone is next to them for example. Also watch to see if they are texting or dealing with rowdy kids and not paying attention to the road. All this is a lot more difficult when dealing with cars with tinted windows, but use the tip where you can.

I just recently found you, Blockhead and thus just now watched this video. Good job and I agree with everything you said. As a truck driver that rides, and there are a lot of us out there, I'd like to add to do your best to 1. Pass us quickly, 2. Do your damndest not to pass on the right. Especially on rural interstate or where you have 4 lane road or hwy.. Inside cities with multiple lanes get 2 lanes over if you can to pass on the right. Most truck drivers will cruise in the right lane except to pass. If a truck is blocking the left lane please be patient, he/she will most times get back in the right lane when they realize they can. Inside cities with multiple lanes we could be needing over on short notice or just trying to on through the city.
Optional but helpful, watch for our blinkers before you pass. We are at work trying to get somewhere. It's always helpful and appreciated when people see our turn signals and let us over.
Also, as I said, a lot of us truck drivers ride too. So look for us looking for you. We may see you when you're way way behind us so we are waiting for that bike we saw way way behind us to catch up and pass so we can get a better look at it and wave to the rider. True Story, I promise. Be safe, y'all!
Oh Blockhead, I hate to burst your bubble but when it comes to traffic, Orlando ain't nothing special. lol

Wish I could have met ya man, huge fan of your channel and you were a large reason why I got into riding. I would have bought you a beer. As for the better roads, yeah the main roads are okay the side streets not so much. There's a section of road on N Las Vegas Blvd that is in dire need of repair, but they are working on them. Very slowly though it took them a year to finish repairing the road in front of where I live and it was just a one block stretch. Maybe if I'm in your neck of the woods I'll give ya a shout. I do have family in Florida I'd like to see.

Bit late on this video but wow this is perfect. The whole "cars have body language" is bang on, you can see where people will go either because they're going where they're looking or trying to get a view and it helps a lot. Always be proactive and anticipate what comes next, and try to give off the same signals too. The safest driving/riding is being predictable

Your comment made me chuckle: You mentioned how much you have to be thinking about and paying attention to. I was driving my mom to her doc appointment a few days back and we were talking about how I approach driving differently than she does and how I can think about it like a chess game. I think it's important for EVERY driver to do that whether on a bike or in a car, you need to be processing information even faster than you can possibly talk through outloud. I tried talking through everything that goes through my mind and my mind was always at least 3 or 4 cars ahead of where my words were because talking was too slow.

All of these tips are things that any driver needs to be aware of because it not only lets them know what riders have to do to be safe on the road, but it also would improve their driving skills in a car and just make things better for everyone on the road. I can't tell you how many times I've been stuck behind some moron in the left lane going the same speed or only slightly faster than the other lane when I was trying to go faster and I couldn't get around them.
