MY THOUGHTS AFTER USING THIS PALETTE FOR A WEEK (and editing this video):
    1. I am still delighted by the packaging, but I want to be clear that it is definitely plastic. I had realistic expectations about the materials-I was hoping it would feel luxurious, but I was half expecting it to be disappointingly lightweight and cheap-looking, then ended up being impressed. But I don’t want anyone out there developing sky-high expectations because I praised the packaging so highly. If you are expecting it to literally feel like a genuine vintage compact made of brass and lacquer, you will be disappointed.
    2. I love this palette for monochromatic looks. Almost every single shadow looks beautiful blended out all over the lid (I’m not using the white, the black, or the duochrome that way, but all the rest of them, yes). The matte brown and the blue-black are excellent for adding a bit of depth to any monochromatic look without making it look overdone or structured. That is turning out to be the best way to use this palette. I do this kind of eye look a lot, so my wish is coming true-it’s realistic for me to use this palette weekly, if not several times a week.
    3. Even though it’s possible to layer and blend colors into each other, like I did during the video, it almost always results in a blown-out look. The thing you can’t really do is to push this palette to get an elaborate, structured, high-voltage look. It might be possible, but it would be more difficult and less gratifying-I’d rather use my Lethal shadows for that. These shadows are soft and silky. They are like the watercolors of makeup (as opposed to Natasha Denona and Lethal shadows which one might call the oil paints and the acrylic paints of makeup).
    4. Because of the above (3), I’ve been feeling concerned about how these shadows will perform on deep skin. Here are some reviews of this palette by people of color:
    Victoria James: ruclips.net/video/vWUYdBeusbQ/видео.html
    The Slapp App: ruclips.net/video/7dD9JYcqVGA/видео.html
    Brie Moore: ruclips.net/video/q98fYYYVfoU/видео.html
    GlamGirlChelsea: ruclips.net/video/SjQQuNEDaZs/видео.html
I’m really happy to see the colors popping on some of these beautiful faces, especially that blue! I especially love the look that Victoria did with the silver all over the lid and the blue on the inner corner. I also heard a couple of these reviewers talking about the benefits of having a softer pigment in some of these shades (Chelsea talked about being impressed by the effortlessness of the black, and Brie talked about being intimidated by the brightness of the blue, but then appreciating how it blended out to something softer). After using it for a week, I was worried that the soft blousey blend of these shadows was only working for me because of my pale skin. After watching these reviews I feel confident that it’s more a matter of taste.
    5. That said, it’s definitely a specific kind of tool. If you are a full-pigment, full-glam kind of makeup-wearer, but you really love this beautiful packaging…don’t fall for it! The novelty of the packaging will get old fast, and you won’t use the palette. In a way, I actually think this palette is ideal for people who don’t own very much makeup and only ever do simple one-or-two-shadow looks. Because if you are just going to buy one palette every few years, the price tag is less of an issue and the packaging is more of a boon. Or if you love pigment and ultra-sparkly eyeshadow and you have lots, but on a day-to-day basis you usually wear quick simple looks, AND the packaging is from your dreams, it might be a good fit for you. That’s my situation.
    6. Even though I like it so much, I would still not spend $150 of my own budget to buy this for myself, simply because I have so much eyeshadow and there are other things I want/need right now (like another babaa sweater…don’t @ me). But as a gift, it’s perfect-it’s special, it’s practical, and it will probably get more use than a lot of my other makeup because it is so alluring and memorable and I will be storing it front and center on my vanity.
Stay tuned for the update in a couple of months! Maybe hitting pan on a Gucci palette is what makes a person a true icon :)

I love how you describe different shadow formulas as different kinds of paint. Personally, I don't understand the paint metaphor, but I'd LOVE to see a video discussion different formulas and the ways they can be worked with and what types of looks they might be best for.

I could honestly watch a whole video of Smidge just flying around the room and hissing at her own reflection, no joke. I love the paint metaphor you used in your pinned comment, upon reading it I could instantly imagine the textures, opacity and performance of the shadows. I paint with watercolour, oil and acrylic and I often think of eyeshadow as paint for the eyes, so it was the most perfect analogy for me.

when I was young collecting things overwhelmed me cz there were too many options, too many variables, too many combinations of things and I either wanted it all of none of it.
till I developed the philosophy of using what I love, instead of collecting them.
I never get overwhelmed anymore cz I'm never confused abt what I like to use. I completely and wholeheartedly endorse the concept of using your favourite things.
it's also psychologically freeing. the crippling hold of the "valuable inanimate object" is gone.
kinda like I mess up my art uniforms when they're new so that I won't obsess over their pristine quality. then the idea of paint and ink stains stops being overwhelming.
ps. I love text and calligraphy rings. I have 67 Persian calligraphy rings and I wear 6 at a time. I change my rings everyday. it's truly a great part of my day

I'm so happy I was able to talk myself out of buying this palette. when I first saw it I fell in love but after thinking about it all the time I came to the conclusion that it wasn't worth it for me. the color story is very very beautiful but what was making me so tempted to get it was the packaging! I'm a student and I have very little money and I don't even wear makeup every single day!
in the end, I decided to buy myself a little (but extremely gorgeous) vintage jewellery holder on vinted. I'm so proud of myself for taking this decision. it was so tempting but now I couldn't be happier with my final purchase. thank you hannah for helping and teaching me how to really think about every single thing I decide to bring into my life. it's been life-changing

For the price I think the palette should be metal but more importantly, the inside completely ruins the fantasy for me. This palette is extremely alluring to me. I love simple blown out one or two shadow looks and the colours and packaging are VERY appealing. Nonetheless, I don't think it would be a good financial decision for me. BUT! The great thing about this video is that it allows me to sort of vicariously enjoy the palette by watching you use it, does that make sense? I feel joy knowing you have this and watching you enjoy it. I get to admire the beautiful thing that is this palette without consuming outside my means.

There is no refill for sale on the gucci site as far as I can see. All it says is 'Thanks to a removable tray, the palette becomes a keepsake in itself and can be used as a new object of beauty, such as a jewelry box'
Edit: It's been a month since my comment and still no refill available. Someone on reddit told me a 'gucci store rep' told them it's refillable but uh, I don't believe them.

    • @Creamy_Goodness
      @Creamy_Goodness 2 года назад +1

This palette isn't refillable, as the commenter above said. Even if it was, by the time you run out of the product it'd be the year 2040 and Gucci most certainly won't be selling refills by then. It's a marketing gimmick to get people excited (and it's working)

this is a very pretty palette. i noticed that as i grow older i gravitate towards less pigmented shadows. the beauty community brainwashed me into thinking eyeshadows have to be uber pigmented, but when i started looking into what *I* like, it's shadows like those in this palette. the way they blend together and look like - as you said - watercolor is really up my alley.

Aw, I'm so happy you got this palette ( what a nice & thoughtful gift from hubby) & were pleased with it after coveting it so hard. It really is pretty & anything with that vintage late 19th/early 20th century vibe is right in my sweet spot. The actual shadows would have aligned perfectly with my makeup style too about 15 -30 years ago. I only wore very soft shades in a satin or matte formula, never more than 2 shadows (usually a light & dark duo of creme/taupe, pink/mauve, beige/warm brown) but since I've discovered non drugstore makeup & Indie eyeshadow I've really been making up for lost time with shimmer/metallics, multichromes & color. Purple is one of my favorite colors & I own many shades of purple eyeshadow & I must say I find it very amusing that you consider the warm, murky purple in that Gucci palette to be BRIGHT 🤣 It's actually a nice purple for people who usually prefer midtone bronze-y or warm leaning neutrals. Anyway, I wish you continued enjoyment of your new beautiful object. I hope it brings you joy every time you use it.
P.S. I totally bought 2 Zeesea palettes just because I fell in love with the beautiful packaging. The palettes looked like antique enameled boxes an Egyptian queen would have used to keep her cosmetics in. Yes, I bought 2 from the British Museum Egyptian collection & I didn't even care if the eyeshadow formula was good or not. I have them displayed in my office :)

😂 I can almost hear my hubs internal dialogue now, my collection is so ridiculous, any new addition I can feel a thought bubble forming above his potato head 😂 of course he’s far too smart to voice anything.
But if I were Joe I think I would have given it early for the review video and swatch/ one use only, and then take it back until Christmas.
When I do a “to me from me” Christmas makeup gift that’s pricey, I always open it and swatch it so that if it sucks beyond belief I can return it . (Not a habitual returner at all but once in awhile it’s just horrific) . Then once I see it’s ok , not broken and performs, I put it back in the box. Maybe that’s unusual.

For me, there's never going to be a reason to spend $150 on one palette. I don't judge anyone who chooses that or receives it as a gift but I just couldn't find a justification in my mind. If I was in a good financial position, I might spend $150 on a curation of special singles because then I could pick each individual shade and avoid duds. Because if I got that Gucci palette and even just one shade disappointed me, I would feel a lot of frustration. There is something really special about the color story and the idea behind the color story that I really like. And the idea of watercolor shadow is quite beautiful. Might have to mess around with my singles and see what I can cook up that is my version of the thing

@@HannahLouisePoston thanks. Took me a while to get there. It's a journey. Currently on a year long no-buy for all eyeshadow, which only started last month but I already see palettes as such a huge commitment now where I used to just constantly buy them without a second thought.

Congrats on the Monica Vinader swag! (I say it with the same rhythm as “vinegar.”) They are the highest quality of all the influencer-beloved “M”-named jewelry companies and I think they make everything in the UK. As you can probably tell, I’m more into jewelry than makeup, but I like this palette a lot.

I've kept this video on my To Watch List to ward off how much I want that palette but broke down and finally did and now I want it even more! Good thing this doesn't seem to be a limited edition item--especially with the refillable trays coming soon. So, this is now on my birthday wish list, which will be perfect for the spring season anyway.

I cannot afford to buy such a palette, but I totally agree with you that it has special value as a gift and would look gorgeous on the vanity. I am in love with that packaging. I'm so glad you received it. The colour story does look pretty and the shadows do look like they would be flattering on more mature lids, much in the way that I like Wayne Goss and Charlotte Tilbury palettes for that very reason.

Wait is this the perfect makeup item for me 🤔🤔🤔 I watch your videos religiously, Hannah, but so rarely buy makeup (The last makeup item I bought was the Roen 11:11 quad when it came out, after watching your review of it). Thank you for doing such thorough and heartfelt reviews of these items! It is so nice to see someone appreciating a beautiful thing:)

From your descriptions it sounds like these eyeshadows have the quality of Shiseido eyeshadows. Easy to blend, hard to mess up watercolor satin. They are the type of eyeshadow (at least the formulation from a few years ago before Dick Page left) you appreciate more and more when you age. I love the colors in the Gucci palette!

The packaging is exquisite and i have to say that this colour story is truly out of the box which I super appreciate from a super luxury brand-like a dior, Valentino, Chanel, Ysl-and not a Natasha or Pat luxury which very often plays it safe-thanks for the review-the quality is better than I expected

Your delight of receiving this palette was so lovely to watch. I love the esthetics of the packaging, it reminds me of something that I would have found in my Grandmother's collection. Appreciate your additional notes of your observations after more use. It seems so special why wouldn't you be reaching for it, I would. It will be interesting if Gucci presents other eyeshadow palettes to swap out with the packaging, I would be down for that. Beautiful presentation Hannah xxoo

Thank you so much, Hannah and Smidge and Joe! ❤️❤️❤️

I am truly beside myself with giddy joy to see this in your possession!
It goes without saying that $150 on an eyeshadow palette is bananas money, but also I think about all the luxury quads on the market that are often far more than $50 with similar soft pigmentation, maybe one special glitzy shade and a couple of mattes or satins, I would see this more as a trio of luxury quads all wrapped up in a beautiful bow of faux lacquer and brass and that makes the price feel less off-piste. It's well outside my budget but I can see that it's not totally out of line of current luxury makeup pricing (not like for instance the Hourglass curator system).
