I colourised "Terror by Night" back in December 2023, and it still remains one of the most-watched colourisations I've uploaded to RUclips. I decided to restore it to its original black and white.
I have added a 5-minute intro at the beginning that shows part of the enhancement process. The film is upscaled from SD to 4K, and the frame rate is more than doubled from 24fps to 60fps. To cut out some of the blur, I also used AI facial enhancement, which makes it look much clearer.
You can see the difference in the enhancement process clip. The process took just under 42 hours to complete.
If you don't want to watch the enhancement process, you can skip to 00:05:11 to watch the full movie.
"Terror by Night" (1946), directed by Roy William Neill, features Basil Rathbone as the legendary detective #sherlockholmes accompanied by Nigel Bruce as Dr. Watson and Alan Mowbray. The plot unfolds when the priceless Star of Rhodesia diamond is stolen aboard a train traveling from London to Edinburgh, leading to the murder of the owner's son. Holmes is called upon to solve the case and identify the culprit among the suspicious passengers. The film masterfully weaves mystery, suspense, and deduction as Holmes employs his keen intellect to unravel the intricate web of deception, making "Terror by Night" a gripping and thrilling installment in the Sherlock Holmes film series.
    I hope you enjoy it!

I don’t mind the enhancement as long as it doesn’t rob anything from the original.
That said, I still prefer Black & white versions of old movies.
There was an art to it that color can’t achieve.
Nevertheless, thank you for preserving these old classics.

Thank you :) It did take some time. The next one I had planned took 58 hours and has a copyright claim, gutted!

Hello again, the black and white movies were an art. Did you go back to the original format, speed, etc., or did you just make another version? It looks so clear that I can even see wrinkles on the faces. Thanks, great job again.

Hi. I am restoring most of the films I colourised into 4K at 60fps with facial enhancement but it will take a very long time. It's between 30 and 60 hours per film to do this and they don't seem to be getting many views, unfortunately. :(

Amazing work !! Thank you. Quick question, Is the video software open source? 30 -60 hour's must use a ton of HDD storage. I would love to learn your method's.

Thank you. Yes I need a lot of drives because it's important to store all the work I do as a hard copy. Each enhancement is between 18GB and 80GB, depending on the length of each film and if I use 4K or HD. Very time consuming. I'm having a little break from it but will be uploading 2 or 3 a week, leaving the PC to do the work which can take between 20 - 70 hours per restoration.
