Not taking sides here, however that phone call is so uncomfortable to watch/hear, you can feel the vibe of a bully acting like they are your friend but actually making fun of you the whole time, I think a lot of us kind of socially awkward people have been through this and realised a little too late. I think Taylor is a bit naive and I believe maybe someone behind the scene stepped in after that phone call to tell her this has gone too far and he is clearly making a joke out of her which made her switch. When all this came out the only thing I remember her and her team saying was they had no idea the song was coming out or something like that and that’s why she was labeled as a lier and a snake when Kim dropped the phone call cause Taylor pretended like she had no idea the song existed. However for Kanye, who wrote the song, he might just have viewed it as a fun buzz word or a word he thought nothing of because it’s a word that he uses often throughout his songs and his career as an artist. Her father still is working with her. I'm sure most of her most successful business moves, including the masters' debacle, came from her father. He's a shareholder, he knows the numbers can see how much less they would made if they bought the masters. So they went the rerecording route, which catapulted her relevancy to its peak.

How come there’s a transcription of their 25 minute conversation and apparently no one’s listened to it. Kanye NEVER said “I made that bitch famous” he said he might add a line later about how he made her famous. Again never used the word bitch. Taylor even thanked him for not calling her a bitch. He promised to send her the lyrics and the audio of the song before he releases it, but clearly never did. Kim also said her mom suggested they talk to Taylor about this miscommunication before posting anything about her but gladly chose not to. Not to mention that Taylor also declined promotion of his song as she felt she was crossing crossing the line of over exposure… i don’t understand why people hate on her so much when Kim and Kanye are so controversial.

I wonder if she’s a backstabbing snake like people say, or if she’s just really bad at boundaries, to the point she doesn’t even know what her boundaries are, or how to communicate them without turning it into a public feud? I watched her documentary years ago, and her mother came across as very controlling. People who grow up with mothers like that have a hard time accepting that they are allowed to have boundaries and that they’re allowed to say no, because the second you say no to a controlling and difficult person, they start a fight with you, and won’t let up until they’ve exhausted you into giving into them. If this has been your experience saying no for decades, since childhood, you’re going to associate communicating a boundary with negative pushback, maybe even abuse. So you just avoid saying no, until you feel so violated and angry that your boundary was crossed yet again, that you lash out intensely and scare the crap out of everyone to ensure they can’t do that to you again. Tl;dr her mother might be the problem and she may be carrying mommy issues into adulthood. But she’s an adult now, so she’s responsible for her own actions.

@@solovjud true. I have an overly controlling mother myself, and I’ve now turned into a hyper independent adult, which can be unhealthy at times. But I’ve also learned to set clear boundaries, even with my psycho ass mother, and learned how to detach and go no contact when she refuses to respect them. This is something that Taylor should have learnt by the age of 34. But I’m guessing that there’s too much enmeshment with her mother, since her mother and father are very closely linked to how Taylor runs her career, and they both seem to have been guiding Taylor on where to go and how to come across right from the start. It’s a shame she hasn’t learned to be an independent adult on her own. This is probably where all the toxicity comes from, and it’s going to keep being this way, which means that she’s not a safe person to get close to, because she’ll burn you when it’s convenient for her to do that.
Honestly I don't think is only her mom. Her father too. I think he is the reason she plays safe qith literally anything, and why she doesn't advocate for anyrhing cause is bad for business. I think when Kanye approached her like that she was afraid to say no cause it would be a burnt bridge. Still, in my experience, being a coward does turn you into a snake, which she says she is ironically but she might be one for real.

I remember reading an article years ago, where a journalist did a deep dive into Taylor’s career and outed that she kept trying to get signed on by record labels, and after multiple labels rejected her and she had no way of getting signed on at all, her father basically made a back door deal with the label that did sign her on, the one she tried to screw over publicly over her masters, and the deal was that if they signed his kid, he would buy enough of their shares that he would be one of the major shareholders. And of course, if the majority shareholder’s daughter is your artist, you focus on her PR and promote her music over everyone else’s. Her whole career happened because she’s a rich daddy’s daughter, not because she earned anything. So yes, based on that, I can totally believe that her father is very involved in the business end of her career too, since he’s literally the one that bought her a career in the first place. Which essentially means this girl is still very much a child, and not capable of being an independent adult.

After she got exposed for not only knowing about both lyrics “made her famous” and “having s*x” that’s when she was like “well I never agreed to the word b!tch.” It’s like girl that wasn’t ur argument from Feb-July.

He framed it like it would be a funny, tongue-in-cheek thing that I would be in on. He was saying he wanted me to put it on my Twitter and that it would be like a funny joke!"
So then she publicly denied that she approved of it.
I could see her being such a perfectionist and needing to have control (especially in her career) that she didnt want to admit, even to herself, that she misjudged the whole thing while she was on the phone with Kanye.
It says a lot about her though that she doubled down during her award speech and tried to get clout by making him look like a villain.
It says even more that she didn't fess up to anything when the footage of the phone call came out. I think she was just so pissed that there was a recording and was refusing to back down at that point.
I'm glad people got to see the kind of behavior she's capable of and not just the image she puts out.

I for oohave mixed feelings abou this whole drama It is true that when you look at it from the kardashians pont of view, Taylor looks like she wants to play the victim card. And while she did recieve clout from all this, I don't think the negative PR and hate she recieved from all this balanced the clout. The amount of heavy trolling she got both on social media and from tv show anchors is insane. If this was a planned stunt, it took a bad toll on taylor and you can visibly see her personality changes from the reputation era. Earlier she was miss goody two shoes which even as a swiftie I found obnoxious, but she went onto become a somewhat opinionated woman. Till date, she has her fair share of trying to fit in goody shoes moments but it has reduced significantly over years. Also she has addressed her fear of expressing her opinions post the Dixie Chicks thing so I excuse her for that. But on the opposite side of the spectrum if this is all as she said and she was unaware of it, then she really did suffer an unfair loss.
I can see where the whole always likes to play the victim thing comes from but I believe this is because she is always trying to look miss perfect so that she can fit in and remain in this showbiz. Not that I agree to her actions but I can understand her reasons given how she ALWAYS wanted to be famous. Where I was ticked me though was when I saw the comment section and how she was compared to selena. This is soo not true. Personally apart from a few good ones, I don't think selena has a talent for being a performing artist (singer). But taylor on the other hand is indeed a good performing artist. @@tiarose7989 if you watch the video it explains that Kanye was recording everything at the time for a documentary that I think has not yet been released. It may never be released considering what has been going on with Kanye since this all happened.
As for recording phone call it depends on where you are. In some places if you are one of the people on the call you can record it and use it however you like. In other places both people must know and agree to the call being recorded for it to be legal. I think that’s the law in California where Kim and Kanye lived at the time. However since Taylor was on the speaker phone the law changes and there is no expectation of privacy. IIRC the other people in the room speak at several points so Taylor knew it was on the speaker phone, or at least should have known.
Let’s be real though if the call was recorded illegally Taylor could have gotten criminal charges brought up on Kim (as she is the one who released it) but she never did, which is telling in my opinion. Perhaps she did have a case and decided it wasn’t worth the hassle but I doubt that.

She has spoken multiple times about how good this was for her as a person and for her career and how much she enjoyed it. She didn’t go into hiding from being cancelled, but that is a good time to take the opportunity to step away, AND THEN she used that as a way to reset and pivot her career. It all worked out for Taylor and she was never down. Ridiculous.
My favorite take on Taylor Swift is that she is constantly in my ears telling me how her success is due to some feminist win when so much of her initial success in even entering the music industry was due to her parents playing in and up the most stereotypical gender dynamics known to exist.
Her father literally bankrolled the whole family as a sole breadwinner while her mother, ever so supportive of Taylor, was the homemaker.
I think it will take a lot from Taylor to ever convince me that her success is "feminist" per say.
