  • Cycling and sightseeing ride around the riverside of our beautiful City of Durham. Yes this is a city! Then off I peddle to the coast to see Seaham harbour and marina.
I'm attempting to improve my video and audio quality, so I'm trying out a new lavalier/lapel mic, and comparing noise and audio levels with my action cam mic. In this video, I plug the mic into my mobile phone and use the ASR recorder app to record audio. I've also since started to use a Sony audio recorder (see links below). Another mod I've used is a home made 'windslayer' which seems effective too, I may demo this in a future video.
Sorry about the delay in posting this video, it's been a quite a few weeks since recording the footage. I've had broadband/connectivity issues. Finally I've ditched our BT/Talktalk landline based broadband and gone with a 4G+ router. This is very much more reliable, which is very novel for where I live, although uploads are incredibly slow! On my new router, there was literally zero configuration needed. I just pushed in a Smarty SIM, screwed on the two antennas, powered it up, and viola, we now have broadband that works!

Thank you for this! Getting my channel going too and invested in an Action 3 to start the process. Thank you for you're reviews with your footage!

Hi Travis, thanks for your comment. On a later video (the 200km Audax ride) I tried a different audio method, which was more for convenience in recording. I made a windslayer by sticking double sided foam tape over the camera mic's (holes were punched in appropriate positions in the foam tape beforehand). Then I stuck on top of that a small length of foam from a kitchen pan scrubber! All the audio in that video is from the Action3 built in mic's. The camera was tucked away in my rear cycle jersey pocket. For all the clips, I pulled it out with one hand, and pressed the one touch record button with the same hand. I used the protective cage too, as it made it easier to hold. Perhaps I should do a video of that homemade wind slayer?... when I'm not so busy! Have fun in your video making and be blessed! Stuart (AKA Stuggy!)

@@AyupStuggy That would be awesome Stuggy! I always enjoy making my own modifications as well. Maybe it's a sense of accomplishment or maybe it's just my OCD! LOL!

A bit improvement in the wind noise I,d say.

Thanks :) On my 200km ride posted yesterday, I tried another fix out. I carried my Action 3, with a bit of foam double side tape with holes in it, and stuck on a bit of a pan scrubber over the camera's mic holes! That worked well too, although not as brilliant as the lav/lapel mic option.

@@AyupStuggy Great bodging, I suppose the wind sounds only a problem when you have to talk over it.

@@randelscyclevlogperthwa7342 Yes definitely. It's often a compromise between, having a perfect setup, or having something that's ok and not getting in the way.
