RARE Mountain Dew Xbox is BROKEN - Must Fix It!!! I paid $515 for this broken Mountain Dew Xbox. I made a previous video trying to fix it by replacing all the capacitors but when that didn't work I wasn't ready to give up. This video is trying out some of the suggestions my viewers had to see if any of those get this game console working again.

The couple that diagnose electronic hardware issues together, stays together.
And if they get the voltages & contacts wrong, they kinda stick together.
@@JA-qi1fb I’m dead 😵 lol 😂
This is part 2 of ''RARE Mountain Dew Xbox is BROKEN''
Don't wanna be involved in something that's not mine business but the fact his wife is cutted and my interpretation of her mindset giving me vibes like don't leave for work, you and your stupid job blah
@@StarfilmerOne Please help, I tried to read this and now I smell burnt toast.
That error 07 is the HDD timing out. Could be a bad hard drive, bad/loose IDE cable, or something else. Replacing the HDD on these isn't as simple as replacing it. There is an encrypted key that ties the drive to the motherboard. You'd have to install a modchip, or extract the key and format a new drive with that key. You can extract the key with a Raspberry Pi among other methods.
That drive is on its last life, which explains the noise you're hearing.
Modchip time!
Oof
Yeah, that buzzing sounded like a hard drive that was having trouble spinning up to me
Modchip is not necessary, he can softmod the console, clone the harddrive, replace the harddrive and then uninstall the softmod, I have done this in my console with a falling harddrive
That would explain the beeping
Tip for clearing out vias: Try 3d printer nozzle cleaning needles. They come as small as 0.2mm diameter so should be able to clear out most vias if needed. You can also try acuupuncture needles as they come in extremely fine diameters.
Great tips!
Most of the time they sell acupuncture needles for cleaning 3d printer nozzles and they charge 3x the price
@@Tronicsfixnot sure if the pun was intended but it was appreciated
heyyyyyyyyyyy, he's gonna be here all week, make sure to tip your waiter! GIVE IT UP FOR @@Tronicsfix !!!
3D Printer cleaning needles ARE acupuncture needles.
That beeping noise is from the Seagate hard drive. That's the cry of death.
I'd swap out that hard disk. Or give it the proper power.
It’s groaning in agony. 😂
Yep probably should dump the key and clone the disk or else it will be pretty much useless without a modchip
@@manny3273if you dump the key there's no point in cloning the disk. Just make a new one that's pre soft modded, bridge the tsop and flash the console. Or just leave the box flashed
That disk can be unstuck with tapping it gently on its left side (seen from the connector) he probably did that placing the unit on its side
@@manny3273 You do not need a modchip, just Rocky5 or TruHeXen softmod disc, easy peasy lemon squeezy.
That Genesis looks like a Dreamcast 😂
He said it twice. It's obviously a Genesis :)
@@TexasDevin Limited edition!
I'm pretty sure it is a Saturn.
Ninja Sega genesis disguised like a Dreamcast.
Helo Kitty Limited Edition Dreamcast Console looks like Genesis to Steve what a addisapointment 😅 How dare you 😂 By the way you make a Great job and Love to see New video on your Channel❤
The beeping noise definitely sounds like the hard drive platters were stuck or the drive was otherwise not spinning up correctly, and that 100% tallies up with the error you got after the console first turned on. It might be that nudging the cable was enough to make it seat properly and run the drive correctly, or it might be that the drive managed to free itself - hard to say, but I wouldn't entirely trust it.
This
Totally agree with you I have heard that exact beep from a hdd before unfortunately in my case was a dead hdd problem was the reader on the plates
11:12
Don’t be alarmed, that just means there’s no AV port connected. Gave me a scare when I bought my first one! As for the buzzing, I’m not 100% sure.
More TronixWife! Love watching these tag-teams with you two. Anyway, as always...great work! Keep being awesome!
I had one of those Seagate hard drives die so badly in an OG Xbox it actually burnt out one of the chips on the drives main board!
I believe as others have said that the platter wasn’t spinning hence the beeping noise, you need to either soft mod this ASAP and dump the EEPROM and maybe even zero out the drive key (as drives are tied to the main board) or fit a mod chip and change out the hard drive.
Lots of resources on the OG Xbox Facebook group as to what your next step in saving this console should be :)
That was a amazing fix! Always impressive to see you find those little details!
As an Engineer as a Hardware developer I really like your videos. 💪🏻👁️
Glad you like them!
I think it's genuinely the cutest and most wholesome thing ever that your wife spends time with you like this on something you enjoy. I'm so happy to see your channel grow so much since I subscribed way back when! Wishing nothing but the best for you both!
4:40 I love the Sega Genesis, such a revolutionary system💖💞
You mean Dreamcast.
I always enjoy the follow up videos like this and break downs of what was done with the items fixed
I'm so impressed you got that working. Great job!
Congrats on the fix! Your channel has inspired me a lot to continue to repair stuff and do electronic maintenance in general. I got an iFixit toolkit and screw sorter for Christmas and I am going to get a hot air station soon. I have a solder station already so I plan to repair a Pokémon pinball gameboy cartridge once I have a hot air station. I have a degree in electrical engineering and I really enjoyed learning circuits and soldering while I was in school. Thanks for your videos!
Great video, I wasn't sure if you were going to get that running. It was starting to look like the board might need replacing. Glad you got it going.
CONGRATULATIONS Steve!! Keep up the good work!
Awesome that you both considered the options in the comments. I haven't a clue about any of this but it's interesting to see how all this works.
So glad to see you got it fixed.. What a rare gem.
Watching you fix anything is always a joy to watch and a highlight of the week! Even a bigger joy when Tronicswife is in a video! Just love watching you guys work together. Think we need more videos of 'The Tronics family' 😂
I love Tronics Wife being along to help out today! Agreed too, we all know Steve is going to fix it :D
It's always a pleasure to see Tronics Wife in a video! 👋
Thanks! It was a fun video to be part of. - TronicsWife
@@Tronicsfixin in a similar position to you. We're both named Steve, and we both must have great personalities because your spouse and mine are both way out of our league
@@stevenbenson9976 Now why would you think that ? You're just as good as your spouse. Looks are superficial and fade away. A good soul stays. Btw it was the SteveWife responding, not Steve.
@@BrainHurricanes I'm assuming they both read them
Great job Steve, I'm sorry I doubted you man! Good for you salvaging that board!
Man there's just something different about this tech repair channel from the others. I always am entertained and enjoy these videos. And I hope tronicsfix never changes the host. These videos wouldn't be the same without you
Love your videos man been watching for about 2 in a half 3 years now learned everything ik about fixing ps4/5 and Xboxes from you thanks man
Love it when hosts read folk's comments and apply them also awsome job co host (Tronics wife)! Great format for us all to enjoy.
This was very interesting and informative. Learning how to debug electronics! More like this please❤
more episode like this please... it was fun learning to diagnosis this xbox with you.
I don't know why that alarm tickled me so much but it really did!
Awesome content as always Steve!
As usual excellent job, Steve!
You are seriously one of the best people I’ve ever seen at fixing electronics. Love the channel!
Awesome, Steve. Always glad when one of those pieces of history come back to life. Keep fixing them
4:45 The famous Sega Genesis x)
Glad you got it working. Really enjoyed watching this one.
Glad you enjoyed it
Hi steve would you please do a repair video about changing a dying original xbox hard drive without soft modding it,big fan of yours from trinidad and tobago.
A really nice piece for a collection. I know how much effort it takes to find faulty vias and broken traces so the least I can say is OUTSTANDING WORK!!!! :)
Man those flimflam modulators are always shorting out. 😂. I really liked this video format. Going through the comments while fixing it.
Thanks for the upload!!!
Mountain Dew, X-Box 2: Electric Boogaloo!
Congrats my man!!!!
I very much enjoyed this two videos from the xbox, loved to see it working 👊🤙
This was a fun 2-parter! Thanks for the awesome videos
Glad to see this! Good work!
Great work! I know nothing about electronics repairs but this was interesting to watch.
Curious about that beeping and how simply wiggling the wires stopped it. lol
Love seeing you successfully able to manage to fix old/special edition devices
It was touch and go there for a little bit, but I’m glad you pulled it off! Well done
Nicely done bro 👍🏾😁😁
Nice fix! I would still give that board a good going over, many vias look in questionable condition. Just to extend the life of the unit if anything.
Very satisfying to see you fix it great job
Loved this format
Loved your helper. 😊. Good work 👍.
I can see corroded it looks like aging and could be humidity get in the circuit board and decay some of them . Good job finding it .👍
Nicely done Steve!
Yellow means no a/v cable.
Be careful when moving electronic devices while there are spinning parts like the optical drive or the hard disk because they act as a gyroscope. I once shattered a CD because I suddenly changed the orientation of the vertical axis of the player.
Nice revisit and helping out from TronicsWife.
Nice, you were able to repair the power trace without having to reroute. Good job steve
Love these communal team effor style of video!
Nice work. Guess I should replace all the caps in mine before they go bad! Thankfully mine is a rev 1.6 that has a better clock cap.
Thanks for the awesome content once more TronicsFix! What wire do you use to make these repairs? Looks like the sheath melts off when you solder it to something??
Simpsons Hit and Run, nice score, that's a fun game. Great job fixing it. I remember a long time ago I wanted this one so bad, or the dark green debug XDK box.
Nice to see a part 2 on this and you getting it working, it definitely needed some help! Also nice to see your wife back again giving you a hand, you guys make a great team.
Now lets see some more "Part 2's" of things you gave up on in previous videos, maybe your wife can read comments from those previous videos too and you'll find what's wrong.
Nice work
Thanks for the content
Congrats!!!
Great job on bringing another OG Xbox back to life 😎
Well done guys! :)
This is the video that we all needed and finally got!
good team work ;)
I'm glad you got it working
Cheap tip: to clean those VIA get yourself a set of welding tip cleaners. They are super small and very cheap.
Well done fixing this important bit of gaming history.
That was an Awesome fix Tronicsfix😊
Yo, I was watching the other video of this and i wanted a 2 part, here it is !
Nicely done!
Not an expert by any means, watched many of not all tronics videos. This episode was a pleasure to watch. Mr and Mrs and the team x
Happy to see a happy ending to this story ❤️
The couple that fix together sticks together! 🎮🥰
0:40 that was the problem with the ps1 slim i bought, just added more solder and bam, stiff as a rock now. now more crack and having to push down on the power cable to turn that sucker on. 9:10 this is amazing, trying to mod my xbox 360 slim and thought i bricked it, but almost ran into this same situation, now i know how to fix it ❤
As a vehicle electronics diagnostician for the last 40 years, I do appreciate all you show in your videos...
This is so coooool!! Thanks for the post!
You can try shorting the green wire to ground (Black Wire) and check for 12/ 5 volts to confirm the functionality of the SMPS.
It's alive! Another one saved from the landfills!
I love that it put you right back into someone's save game, who knows how old that is.
07 is HDD timeout, clone the HDD to another one (maybe even a bigger one) using Rocky5's tools and it'll be complete.
Personally I think Rocky 4 was the best movie.
YOOOOOOOO MY FUSE COMMENT GOT READ OUT! DOPE ASF. Love you guys!
Yeah I wouldn't fully trust the I wiggled a cord a bit and it's working now! lmao definitely seems like a hard drive issue like others have said. Great job getting it to work though! Love your channel.
Muchas gracias por compartir, cambiake ese disco duro y te queda como nueva.
Great way to get in those small holes to clean, is to purchase a set of welding torch tip cleaners/carb jet cleaner. Mini files and brushes. They're reasonablely cheap for a set that goes < 2mm.
In a serious suggestion, I find clearing out vias using a 3D printer nozzle cleaning needle (and heat) works really well.
Even if they are/look fine, right now. It's still a good idea to reflow the solder joints at the power sockets.
nice that , to read comm for help. good job !
Tip for finding where a component or whatever on the reverse side of a pcb is- use a small penlight to shine through from one side, while looking at the other side.
Hi, the orange light should go green when you plug a controller in 👍👍👍💯💯💯
It's always cool to see y'all together. When is she gonna start soldering on caps for ya? Lol. Also, that is a Dreamcast. Unless you bought some sort of weird Genesis/Dreamcast Frankenstein hybrid.
Nice to see Jess in on the action!
I love Mrs. TronicsFix's T-shirt!
I have found that when testing a power supply sometimes they show on a meter that there is voltage but under a load they will drop out and not work. If you go to a welding supply store you will find that they have a small drill bit twist finger drill that is ultra tiny and would have been a great tool for drilling through that bad connection so that you could have soldered it with fresh solder.
Glad you got it
Also, I've said it before, but your editing is so great
I've got a great editor (Dan Hinz)!
