FYI, the plastic down the drain is a no no, can't be separated from the water even at the water cleaning plant. Maybe use a paper towel and wipe the majority into the trash??
Great video. I like the idea of restoring the cutting board with the knife, like you did, than using an orbital sander. We have two boards identical to yours - will try the knife restoration this weekend. LOVE your countertops and sink setup. The hubby has an "ugly drum smoker" like what's on your shirt - we absolutely love it.
Awesome! Just be careful about where you let the plastic go. I have since making this video been warned about letting the plastic go down the drain. Glad to hear that this video will help you, good luck and I have a few videos on the channel of me using that old faithful drum. I call her #1 cause she was my #1 drum that I built.
That's Really A Great Tip Dash!! People My Hate About Using Knife But Im Sure All Passionate Qr's Have A Collection.I Know I Do And Have No Issue Dedicate For That.
I have a cafe in Gatlinburg TN with two salad coolers with 48” cutting boards. I bleach them every evening but still see stains from tomato and occasional meat. Anxious to try. Thanks
Hi Dash; have been scrapping our 5 plastic boards for yrs. WHY...I don't know. I hate them. I only use our wood ones for cooked meat. After I clean the plastic board I use a Clorox wipe on it and rinse once more. This looks like a workout video to build the arms. GRUNT and MOAN!
If you had not drawn my attention to the discoloration of your board I would have never seen it, I think it's one of those things that you know is there (kind of like some mistakes in a video) but unless you know to look for it the average person will look right past it because they're focused on the content of what you are presenting. It's kind of the way magicians work, they focus your attention to what they want you to see and away from what they don't want you to see. --- Along the same vein, last night I got my new Canon M50 and shot a couple test clips with it just to see how it was going to perform, I was stunned with the sharpness of the auto-focus. It showed me exactly how filthy dirty my glasses were, I'm totally stunned at the difference between my point and shoots. Now I have the problem of figuring out how to best integrate it into my videos. Maybe I'll sell my two video cameras on eBay and buy another one of these because the footage from this is going to blow them away. IDK yet, it's an interesting problem to have.
I suggest buying a steel drywall putty knife,...two actually, one wide and a narrow one, SAVING your Chefs knife! You can even sharpen the putty knife edge(s), more liberally than your Chefs knife. A good steel PK also make useful tools for working food on a flat top grill,...chopping up Pastrami, eggs,...than scrapping said flattop at end of use. Great channel and useful tips, thank Tony
The knife I use for scraping the board isn't my "good" knife. I have used scrapers in the past but because the board is curved the scrapers gouge the board. I find that the knife's curved edge is better on my curved board. Thanks I'll keep this in mind when I get a new one though.
Mister T, got any brand recs? Looking for something to break down the beef while making Philly cheesesteaks. Have been a bit reluctant to use the scraper though after reading that metal/steel spatulas and scapers can create steel particles in the food.
@@chadthelad1367 Look into getting ones that are NSF certified that you can get from restaurant supply stores. You might even be able ti find them at Sam's or Costco since they sell/have restaurant /catering equipment.
I'm like a lot of people who cringed when we watched you with the knife. For you it WORKS! I would have used wood scraper or dough scraper. Both have longer flat straight edge. I'm lucky my boards are not warped by dishwasher. Know the importance of clean to you Dash, do you think this also sterilizes the board or is that a separate process?
I knew some folks would cringe. This works for me and my board. Once the board has been scraped I do wash it again, like I showed in the video with steel wool and soap. You think I should take it a step further and hit it with some sanitizer as well?
@@SDSBBQs Honestly for home use I would not. The rub is you are doing some "sharing" of your products. In this case you may want to consider a sanitizer. I'm weird in that I would not do it after a cleaning, I would sanitize BEFORE I used it for a client's product. This way what accumulates between the cleaning and before it's use is removed and the board is sterile for the client's products. This minimizes any possible transfer which is what you are trying to do. I hope this makes sense.
I had to chuckle at your fixation on the dark spot. I have an old Polaroid camera that has a spider inside the viewer. I don't know how it got in there. I keep the camera because even though it freaks me out, it's kinda facinating. I call it the spider cam. I wonder what was in yours? Probably just a little moisture.
It was a little pocket lent. I used to carry that camera in my pocket prior to me using the pouch i use now to keep the pocket lent out of the camera body.
@@SDSBBQs much better outcome than moisture. I don't know why I jump to worse case scenarios. Could be because, if I prepare for worse case, anything better is happy day. lol Glad to hear you "got off with a warning". I'll be learning from your lesson, if ya don't mind.
I guess that might be optimism vs pessimism but either way I'm glad it wasn't that bad. Though I did sent the camera in for repairs and they weren't able to fix it and then sent me a check to buy a new camera. So I guess it worked out in the end, though it took over a month to get the check.
Indeed... but I was supposed to have my camera repaired and send back in a week... they strung me along for over 30 days before I was offered to receive a check as opposed to my camera. Fun times... I had to stay on them or I would have still been waiting.
I'd encourage folks to be more careful using a knife like that, better securing the board. (I'd shy away from letting those plastic shreds go down the drain, too.) I'm going to try this with a scarper first and see if that works. Either way, thanks for the tip!
I've found that the dough scrapper that I have was too flat and it gouged my board because my board has a curve to it and the knife worked best. Best of luck!
Oh my. Please don’t use your knife. Please don’t put the grease down the drain. Get yourself a veggie scraper $15 and use that instead of your knife. All you need is a dish towel with a cap full of bleach per gallon on water for sanitation. That will clean it perfectly. Apply last after the board is clean.
I think too it's fine but u know one two three and more and more maybe can give u colon problems , It's just what I think and don't get me wrong the cutting board looks gooood nice and clean.

Baking soda and peroxide is all you need. The plastic scraps are not to go in the sink.
Thanks. There are a few folks that have mentioned something similar.
I started using disposable cutting boards last year. That’s the best solution for me. Good vid though.
The ones I've found are too small.
Where did you purchase your hand held knife sharpener?
I think I got it from the Restaurant Depot... years ago. I bet you can get one on amazon for under $20 bucks and be good for quite some time.
