The Skoda's Enyaq iV is the Czech brand's first bespoke electric car. As the first pictures are released, here’s everything you need to know about it...
Price from £33,450 (before £3000 gov’t grant)
Skoda’s success has been built on producing sensible cars for sensible people, and given that sales of both SUVs and electric cars are booming right now, its decision to build an electric SUV looks inherently... well... sensible.
Called the Skoda Enyaq iV, the new model takes its name from the Irish word enya (which means ‘source of life’), with the Czech brand saying this carries on a tradition of using ‘rugged corners of the Earth’ as inspiration when naming its SUVs.
Another tradition is to add the letter ‘Q’ to the end of their names - think Kamiq, Karoq and Kodiaq - while the iV suffix is reserved for its electrified models.
These include the dinky Citigo-e iV - Skoda’s first fully electric vehicle, unless you count the Puck sit-on child’s toy, which it introduced way back in 1941. However, while the Citigo is based on an existing petrol-engined car, the Enyaq shares its underpinnings with Volkswagen’s ID.3 hatchback and was designed from the start to be electric.
2021 Skoda Enyaq power, range and charging
Two rear-wheel-drive Enyaq variants are available at launch: the 60, which uses a 62kWh battery, produces 177bhp and has a range of 260 miles in official WLTP tests; and the 80 with an 82kWh battery, 201bhp and a 310-mile range.
A cheaper 50 model, with a 55kWh battery will follow later, as will pricier four-wheel drive 82kWh Enyaqs: the 262bhp 80X and a sporty vRS model, with 302bhp.
All Enyaq’s are capable of charging at the 50kW rate that the majority of UK rapid chargers allow, but buyers can specify faster 100kW (for the 60 model) and 125kW (for the 80) maximum charging rates, with the latter able to get the battery from 10-80% in 40 minutes.
Alternatively, if you charge at home using a 7kW wallbox, the same task takes six to eight hours, depending on battery size.
2021 Skoda Enyaq standard equipment
The battery you choose determines the level of standard equipment, with the £33,450 60 model featuring 19in alloy wheels, a 13in touchscreen infotainment system, ambient interior lighting, rear parking sensors, dual-zone climate control, keyless go and artificial leather upholstery.
In addition to its bigger battery, spending the £5550 needed to upgrade to the 80 brings front parking sensors, a rear-view camera, sat-nav, a heated steering wheel and multiple driving modes designed to let you change the character of the car.
There’s also a Founders Edition Enyaq, which uses the same 82kWh battery, but includes the 125kWh rapid charging ability, an illuminated front grille, Matrix LED headlights and a unique black leather interior, although this variant costs almost £50,000.
2021 Skoda Enyaq ride, handling and performance
So, what is the Enyaq like to drive? Well, earlier this year we tried the 80 model in a prototype form said to be about 70% finished, and this was mostly on the money for a car of its size (the Enyaq is just 5cm shorter than Skoda’s biggest SUV, the seven-seater Kodiaq).
Indeed, it felt similarly agile to the class-leading Kia e-Niro, and proved better to thread around bends than the smaller Hyundai Kona Electric. Accurate steering helped here, although the weighting was a bit inconsistent, with Skoda claiming this was one of the things that was still being fettled.
Likewise, the ride was still a work in progress, but it was already pretty comfortable, levelling all but the nastiest bumps reasonably well. Instead, a bigger issue was some fidget and sway over undulations; we tried a few different cars and some were better than others.
It’s tricky getting the brakes smooth on electric cars because the energy recuperation system, which puts energy back into the battery as you slow down, makes them less predictable. And sure enough the pedal was a bit snatchy on the prototypes (again, Skoda claims the finished car will be better).

@John Edwards the ix3 is based on an ice car with poor performance and a premium price. of course you have to wait for the performance awd version of the enyaq to also get 180km/h. but it will be feature rich and still cheaper than a naked entry level bmw ix3

I think Skoda really nailed it with this design, it looks awesome. The only thing I don't like it's the illuminated grill but i assume that is optional.

The rear is horrid IMHO. Glowing front is tacky. But the interior... Skoda did great.

Every review of this car apart from the prototypes(year old now) has shown it stationary..!!..i’m beginning to question if it even comes with a motor..!!

On a 80 km stretch of twisty mountain roads here in Greece,i came upon this vehicle with my 600 cc naked honda hornet 1998 model. A simple bike of 2000 euros. I have to admit the skoda was impressive in the corners. The man driving was old enough to be my grandfather. It goes to show you that technology gives you the impression you are a fantastic driver.
:50 "An illuminated grill..." Just what everyone needs. Finally, auto designers are listening to customers. ;-)

@@3v3rhard isn't that what you call a crossover? I hate SUVs but this looked a bit bulky to me but quite enjoyable without the fear to get a too stiff suspension or unneccessary weight

This is a welcome addition to the EV market. Škoda makes solid cars.
It has an efficiency of almost 4.1-miles per kWh of stored energy, but I am unsure if it keeps some of the stored energy inaccessible to the driver.
Most reviewers are missing the efficiency of charging the battery in electric vehicles.
The size of the battery is 77-kWh, but how much more energy is actually required per full battery charge?
Hint: electrical charging is not 100% efficient, and some of the losses are due to the on-board charger and the battery among other stuff.
This review did something unusual and most welcome. He compared this car’s price to other similar vehicles. 👍
That is one awesome looking car.. I can see myself buying a used one somewhere around 2035 when it's gonna cost around 3000 euros..
He seems to be sitting way to close to the steering wheel from the front seat. Was he purposely doing that so that when he gets to the rear seat there is enough leg room?

I have traded in a 3 year old Octavia VRS for a Kodiaq 1.5 technology. The latter, I am pleased to say, is a fantastic car. I am not missing the VRS at all. Skoda are knocking it out of the park lately.

Yeah the Polestar starts at over 50‘000 euros, but you only need options of around 1000 euros, where for the skoda you need to spent over 12‘000 on options to get to features of the polestar + the big battery like the polestar is also not cheap, so you‘re looking at more like 60‘000 euros for a simmilar o e to the polestar.
The car looks a bit small, perhaps due to the size of the guy. The rear seats looked like they are elevated higher than normal?
Small? I guess it’s all relative, compared to a F150 pick-up truck it’s small, but compared to the average mid-sized vehicle this one offers more than enough space.
@John Edwards I think that is awesome. Finally, someone that is also almost 2 meters tall. I can finally estimate whether there is enough space for me and passengers behind me.

Me, since I always like Skoda and Seat Design, when I see them the first time...after about 6 to 8 month I mostly find them "over"-designed.
VW is a more conservative design, but the design is more durable. Like the Golf...in fact not realy "interesting"...but it looks very well even after years on market...like the Golf IV, which still does not look like a 25 year old car if you see one on the road.

@@STEVYFORELLO hmm, it was always like this. My Passat looks conservative compared to the Skoda Superb...but sells ten times better than the Skoda as Company Car. Same will happen with Enyaq and ID4, since I have heared that the numbers they plan to produce are limited compared to the ID4.
Because it is not buyable...VW had Battery deliver problems for now.

Looks really good, especially from the side, but I can not deal with the fact that the driving experience will reduce to standing in a box with screens that will take you from point A to B. No more thrill, no pleasure, no feeling of proudness when you learn to control such a complex machine. Another joy from day to day life taken away. I do not want to upset anybody, but this is how I think.

This is actually a very big car in car market. But when you stand beside the car, it is like Skoda Fabia cross wagern;)I recommend you to put kofiaq or bmw 3 beside that car, afterwards we can compare it better.

Oh how we laughed at Skoda not so many years ago. If i were in the market for a leccy car i would certainly be looking at this. Lovely proportioned and looking car.
Britain picked Škoda for laughing because you didn't drive the likes of Trabant (East Germany). Find this beauty and its reviews, it was made from a paper-like plastic, you will see what the Czech car jokes usually focused upon! ;-)

I forgot about the government grant. In Ireland we can get up to €10,000 for an electric car. This SUV would be very cheap.

5000 VRT rebate and 5000 SEI grant. It depends on the price, just because it's 33,000 Euro in Germany it'll be at least another 4000 here. I'm not sure if that price he gave is for the basic 50kw model or not
@@Iceberg1313 He mentioned the base price. The car you're looking at with all the bells and whistles (21" wheels for god's sake) will be around 50 000 euros, at least.
@@markbrisec3972 just for the fun of it, I went online to check prices here in Ireland. 80 KW model start's around the €51500 and once all the bells and whistles are added it's €68547 and you'll probably still have to charge it to get home with it, 🤣

Im so glad we finally see "normal" car which is SUV and not those futuristic looking monstrosities. Pricing is also veeeery good and Im sure Skoda hit a winner here and sell everything they can manufacture. Im looking to buy either this is Model Y when I can grab one under 30k€ used..

I'm a Volkswagen kind of guy. But. I really must say. The Skoda Looks so much nicer and more premium then the ID 4. I'm truly disappointed about the massive software issues that occur in the premature ID cars. I guess Skoda uses the same software. So. They need to step Up the game.
