Subaru Outback Wilderness Off-Road In Moab Pt. 2

  • On our second day in Moab, we wanted to increase the difficulty level from the first day at Hurrah Pass in the Outback Wilderness. We chose to take Gemini Bridges into Canyonlands National Park and then head over to Long Canyon Road, which drops down into Pucker Pass. The last time we did this trail, we were in my wife's Jeep and ran into some pretty rocky obstacles. This trail is one of our favorites, and we had high hopes for what the Subaru Outback Wilderness would be able to do in this terrain!

    I just got a 2022 Outback Premium. I love it already. Subaru makes some really cool and capable vehicles. It would be amazing if they brought back the BAJA as a double cab mid sized unibody truck with a 5ft bed, tow around 5,000lbs with their symmetrical AWD system with a center locker and low range or a wide spread in the CVT. Something to compete with the Maverick, Santa Cruz and Ridgeline Unibody trucks.

    • @roamingwithjosh
      @roamingwithjosh  2 года назад +1

      Moab is what you make it. There’s plenty to do and see for everyone, regardless of how big your rig is. I don’t have a lift and I enjoyed the heck out of myself. I would test it out without a lift and then decide what you really “need”. Everyone’s idea of overlanding is different so unless you have a good gauge, just go and have a good time and test your vehicles limits. That’s my two cents.

    There is something hanging down on the drivers side in the back, underneath. Looks like a hose or a wire. Might want to check that. It could just be a twig you picked up, but I noticed it in the first 3 minutes of the vid. and stopped to post. Now going back to watch the rest. :) I'm at 11:24 now. Haven't seen that thing hanging down for a while, but Ihaven't seen a good angle underneath either. But wow, that terrain you are in at 11:24 looks like the ruins of some kind of Kingdom I see giant gates and columns. It reminds me of a video game I used to play like the entrance to a big city carved out of stone.

    • @roamingwithjosh

      Right on! We didn't pass anyone on long canyon, but passed a handful of people on gemini bridges. Season is just starting out in Moab and spring break time draws tons of people so I would assume you will see several people on every trail.

    Well so far that OB of yours has surprised me 🙄🤪🥴🤭. Mountain Goat you say? Ehhh yeah compared to the Jeep it's a Billy Goat. Just a little momentum & it'll pretty much go where the jeep will go minus Deep Mud & boulders just more comfy. By any chance did Courtney happen to notice the hill descent control helping any or is it a different model? Still good to see someone Actually putting the OB Wilderness through some true Overlanding testing even Without a lift kit.
    Remember right after you got the OB I mentioned that it will make it through 75-80% of what the jeep will do & do to the trails the jeep Might need 4x4 for 25% of the trail. After your Moab trip it makes a little sense now aye? Can't wait to hear Courtney's view of the OB since she did most of the driving & didn't leave you in a shallow grave.
    ps
    Since you're probably back home now have you checked your cvt fluid or changed it?

    • @roamingwithjosh
      @roamingwithjosh  2 года назад +1

      You can tell when she was using X mode on the downhill sections because the car is going abnormally slow. I think that's the only thing she liked about X mode. When we do the review video I'm going to drag her into it so we can get her opinion since she spent most of her time behind the wheel! All fluids checked out and have stayed pretty consistent throughout the trip! The one complaint is no winch. If someone would make a winch plate and bumper for this vehicle it would change a lot because the fear of getting stuck would pretty much be removed and you could then take it beyond its intended capability. Thanks for the comment!

    • @tpseeker3367
      @tpseeker3367 2 года назад +1

      As far as a winch goes check out @bruceyyyyy "Installing a Winch on a Subaru" 12:59 min vid from 3yrs ago @@roamingwithjosh He did his own & factory plastic bumper cover snaps right back in place. Any winch you put on is pretty much going to void the warranty anyways. I like the way bruceyyyyy did is cause of the weight. How often have you seen ANY 4x4 actually need a complete 1/4 inch thick steel bumper that needs a engine hoist to install? Will the OB be taken to the areas that a 1/4 inch Thick Steel bumper be Needed? People think oh 300-500 lbs isn't much till you add in the weight of everything else you've packed in. Don't forget the wear & tear of that Heavy 1/4 inch Thick Steel bumper on the front end suspension, drivetrain & MPG on your Daily Driver that you Might use Once a Year. Plus the $$$ put into a steel bumper could go to diff lockers & LP Adventures or Rally Innovations bars look pretty sweet IMO
