I like Luzac a lot, the sound, his voice and great lyrics. Well done Luxembourg ❤💥💯👍👍 Shane I am looking forward when you will review my country Belgium. (keep an eye on Le Manou and Mentissa) 😀😉👍
Laura Thorn and Rhythmic Soulwave are my two favorites and the only two I listen to on a regular basis. The lead singer of Rhythmic Soulwave, as you mention, has an great voice and it could absolutely pop in the live show and be a surprise winner (at least I'm hoping!).
Laura Thorn is my favorite even though I don’t listen to this kind of songs much. There’s something playful about this sound, it reminds of Barbie song by Aqua from the 90s lol
Shane, there is so much more to Laura Thorne’s song. It’s an homage or rather a clap back at their 1965 winner. “Wax doll, sound doll”. This one means “the doll turns up the sound” If you look at the lyrics of each, you’ll see way more crossover. A modern day take on the misogynist song that France Gall was forced to sing that she distanced herself from later. I think it intentionally sounds “young” and orchestral to connect with the previous song. Also, Phantom of the opera is about an older man exploiting a young girl to sing his music AND he has a wax figurine of her. So I don’t think that reference is unintentional. At first listen I preferred Luzac but once I connected the two Poupee songs, I am obsessed with Laura Thorns.
I big plus of this channel is reading the comments. I would never know this. Thank you for writing it. Important context in fully appreciating the song 🎵 👌
Well....thanks for the vindication Shane. "Some people will love the authenticity"...yep. that's me. Rhythmic Soulwave is my choice from these. What a beautiful vocal. Smokey, jazzy and a real vibe The community will have a hissy fit but I'd love to see this in Basel. I'm playing this a lot and haven't got bored as yet. My runner up is the interesting composition from Luzac. There's something here that I find appealing. I think it's because it is unpredictable in its form. Keeps me listening The rest I could live without. Harsh maybe but haven't we heard Laura Thorn's song before? (Zoe from Austria. Was it 2019?) I know the community loved it but personally I found it a little lacking in gravitas. Hark at me, the expert. ☺️ Still. We feel what we feel right? The other 3? Meh! No winner amongst these I'm afraid but I bet it'll be a polished show and go get Rythmic Soulwave Me and probably noone else will be shouting for them 😊😊👍 Great video as always Shane. Keep it going lad 👏👏
Luxembourger here, I am pretty excited for this one as I'll be seeing it live. My personal favourite is Stronger as it's a genre I really really like. I can see it winning the NF if the vocals are hitting just right! From a Eurovision perspective though I do concede that Laura and Luzac have a more obvious path to winning the NF. I also really like Rafa Ela, it just might become my nf girlbop of the year. 😂 My bottom 3 are exactly like yours. Overall I agreed with a lot of what you said. My hope for my country is that we'll keep surviving that semi-final! hahaha anything beyond that is a bonus
Your videos always put me in a good mood, Shane. That sweet moment reminiscing about your buddy G 🥲. Je dance 🕺🏻 is the only song that’s made it into my playlist. I really like it. Let’s Chanel this house down! 🪩💖
For me it’s definitely Laura, when I first heard it I was like you, oh this sounds like Cazzi from Melfest last year so obviously I’m in 🙄🤣 All the others I could move on after about a minute, harsh I know but dancing to Laura Thorn in a club outweighs the others by a mile. I need pop, a melody and a tune. Thanks for your latest reaction
Hope Laura will win it! People are quite sceptical about this, but If she will win, she will do well. A good staging is crucial about this. Hope not the same will happen with her like with Chérine in Belgium. She said she will be not alone on the stage and it will be very fun, so we will see!
Laura is my fave, but really I'd be fine with any of my top 4 Laura Thorn La Poupée Monte Le Son 8.6/10 MÄNA Human Eyes 7.6/10 One Last Time Gambler's Song 7.5/10 Luzac Je danse 7.4/10 Rafa Ela No Thank You 7.3/10 ZERO POINT FIVE Ride 7.2/10 Rhythmic Soulwave Stronger 7.0/10
Hello Shane and thanks for this review! 😊💖 Ok, after listening to the songs, i don't hear a Eurovision winner, based on the songs alone. There wasn't one that completely blew me away, but I like one more than others and some can most likely be lifted by performance and staging. A common feature for many of the songs are that the same melody sequences are repeated exactly the same the second time or more (verse, pre-chorus, chorus and so on), which makes it sound quite the same throughout and why I find some rather uninteresting. Sorry, just a personal opinion 🙄🙏💖. In my top 4 I highlight different elements that I like. They are: 1. Rhytmic Soulwave "Stronger". This is my vibe. I like the genre and I am a huge fan of a deep, jazzy soulful voice that pulls/holds out the tones. This lady has FEELING when she sings, it's groovy and I like the key rise and the instrumentation. Her voice sounds to me a bit like a cross between Amy Winehouse and Angie Stone. (The latter has been played extensively in my home with hits like "Wish I didn't miss you anymore" from the album Mahogany Soul). "Stronger" may not be that competitive, but it's the one I like to listen to the most. 😊 2. Mäna "Human eyes". She seems to have a nice voice and here it's the background choir that 'does it for me. The song is a bit same same without any particular climax or changes, but the mood is quite nice, perfectly fine. 3. Laura Thorn "La poupee monte le son". The song is very catchy and the chorus quickly gets stuck in your head. But here it sounds very much the same until the bridge at the end where I find some interest. There is a charm, but it doesn't grab me (yet anyway), so, well, average. Sorry! 4. Rafa Ela "No thank you". She has a good voice and I liked her stage presence last year. But the song I have heard many times before, somewhat dated. Here, too, there is a same melodic/repetitive structure throughout, but it has tempo that I think she can gild on stage. 💃😉 Looking forward to seeing them live! Sorry for the long comment, you know me, all or nothing 😅🥰💖
Well i loved Laura's song....its fun , definitely camp and later tonight i will have a ESC boggie with the aid of my trusty zimmer frame around my.bedroom. Proud to be a mature fan and this song certainly reminds me of the early song contest😅....i can imagine Katie Boyle introducing it ...very old style. Love it ....it made me smile... Thanks Shane
Not quite as good as last years selection imo, but it's still quite good. My Top 7: 1. Zero Point Five 2. Luzac 3. Mäna 4. Rafa Ela 5. Laura Thorn 6. Rhythmic Soulwave 7. One Last Time
I like "Laura Thorn - La poupée monte le son", but for me its feels abit childish (Dont know the lyrics tho). The song kinda reminds me off "Chérine - Ça m’ennuie pas" from Eurosong 2023. Hopefully they give Laura a more mature stageing! Kinda surprised you mentioned Benidorm fest after "Zero Point Five - Ride", for me its feels more like pop-country from Scandinavia. This is my guilty pleasure, prob cause we get to little country in Eurovision! I know this wont do anything in Eurovision tho. "One Last Time - Gambler's Song" feels like a Mello-fied-rocksong, dont feel authentic. "Luzac - Je danse" feels like the way to go for Luxembourg, artsy enough to stand out, but still modern enough to be liked by general public. Might draw some rock-voters from the chorus too!
It´s in my opinion the worst of all current Selections. Laura is so overrated I really don´t like her Song. Rafa Ela is in my opinion by FAR the best Entry.
Oh Shane... I have some kind of a anti eurovision mood and don't care about any national final 😢 that's why I don't comment your videos. Ist's not you. Probably some postpartum hormones😅

Lovely to see the old intro is back ESC Shane... thanks so much. Now I'm much more excited to engage with Luxembourg's songs!

Laura Thorn has an absolute earworm. Unless she is flat, I can’t see her not winning. But then it’s a modern Poupee de Cire.
