- Hi guys! Welcome to lesson 92 of Learn That Solo! Today we look at how to play the solo from 'Play With Me!' by Extreme off their self titled album.
Dumb, awful and silly are words I'd use to describe this kind of song and music, however the solo is bitchin' and heaps of fun. I think it sounds harder then it is. As soon as you get your head around the string skipped arpeggios it all gets easier and the ideas and themes stay pretty consistent throughout the duration of the solo.

Cemetery gates is fine... I have a rule about Slayer solos though... I just find them awful.
They can be, definitely. What I love about the solos of many of these big thrash bands is how the rhythm often plays modified versions of the main riffs, and sometimes these are just as hook-y as the main riffs we associate with these tracks. Slayer and Metallica did this so well.

Every time I need help with some part of a solo I can't quite figure out, I always search for Chris' lessons because I find his teaching methodology super comprehensive and most effective. It is more incredible than Bettencourt even came up with this insane solo idea, during an actual song. Maybe the most underrated solo of the 1990s. Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure made the band.
That last scale (22 notes or so) can be played down the the same way you worked up to it in the beginning of this last set.
The guys got mad skills.
I find this easier
And to replace the picking with a lot more hammers and pulls will help speed this up.

That "vivaldi section" is done palm muted with pull offs, not straight tremolo picking
How can you pull him up on that and yet miss the fact that he's not playing 16th notes?

I think it takes mad skills to be able to slow things down enough to show others, and not get lost in the process.
This piece is not perfect but very impressive.

Hey, first off i wanna say your videos have helped me so much, your a great teacher, i was wondering if you have ever done a video on alternate picking, as your alternate picking technique is amazing, and I'm in a bit of a rut with it at the moment,
You are a great teacher but the 1st phrase is in 16th notes - you have to play 3 open high E string after each note
The Triplets work just fine

who else has problems at 5:18 ?
because of the arpeggio position I can only play it by palm muting the g string, otherwise when I lift the pinky of the 12th fret G string the harmonic sounds
(on the other arpeggios I can mute it just by lifting the finger cause there's no harmonic)

Can you do one for Cemetary Gates by Pantera ,Seasons in the Abyss or Angel of Death by Slayer?
I think thr in-between notes are a pull-off followed by 2 picked notes, like 5p0 0 0 7p0 0 0 8p0 0 0 etc
Also I believe in section 4, he slides up to the 3rd and back to the root at the top of the Eb major arpeggio.

Hello m8, please answer my question as I'd LOVE to know is there any solo you can't play? Or find incredibly difficult? I'd love to know and try to play because I'm not the greatest guitarist been playing about 2 years and I'd love to tackle difficult stuff and just learn the patterns and speed, thanks bro and you're so awesome down to earth guy, I hope if I get ad good as you I can be that modest! hi chris, how is it that u pick all the notes in the intro but when you show us hows its done you tap alot of them? Is the picking harder?

Delay pedal, nuno uses a delay live/in studio, there's some good in-depth videos about it. Makes a really cool effect

yea he uses his nails its crazy lol. u can watch his hallow be thy name vid and u can see clearly when he does the tapping parts he doesnt hold a pick. this guy is epic
