NPCs is honestly one of the biggest issues. If not the biggest. It‘s not even a decent shooter or shooter at all, when the enemy is basically just a shooting range
@@kwa42the npcs is an issue becouse we dont ahve dynamic server meshing yet. People who managed to run the game in SP have explained that tehy have no NPC issues. You can also notice a way better experience if you been on servers with 5-10 people. There NPCs are deadly and you really ahve to use cover and move or you will die.
Too bad, you'll need -dynamic server meshing- -quanta- -new ai framework- -NPC intelligence persistence- quantum-computer powered AGI for that
I'll always respect Mike for at least trying to keep CIG honest.
What bothers me, is I invested into this game heavily in 2013-14. Most of the ships in my hangar are legacy ships, so they are very outdated compared to the ships that have come out the past few years. We were told over and over by CIG that there would be an update to the legacy ships to "bring them up to the gold standard". Now, it seems, CIG updated the Hornet and decided to make money off of it instead of updating the obsolete ships that funded this damn game to begin with. I fully expect there to be a Freelancer MKII, a Starfarer MK II, etc, for a nominal fee...
You didn't invest, you pledged. Investing would imply you are getting a monetary return on the finished product.
You were told from the beginning that the stretch goals would be just that...a long stretch.

There’s absolutely no way they’re going to let you use an upgrade token on a ship that you bought in the game. I think we all know them at this point.
Hope they add aggressive creatures to the prison mines on the deeper levels. Could make for a cool mission to clear them out
I would like that but wonder how that would work with weapons since it's prison and can't have any. 🤔 maybe let the tools do more damage to the creatures only but would be hard to tweak the weapon power to them versus just overall puff the power. I'd be on board though cause rn we just have the venting mission

I actually think the event is great. Granted I've been wanting the hornet mk2 since i first backed in 2020, so I'm a bit biased. I love a prelude event to Xenothreat. Ive ran it with randoms and my org mates and none of them even want the F7A. They just enjoyed doing the missions and event.
Thats kinda how it should be. Play for the gameplay, the reward just sweetens the pot. But entitlement is hard to shake with some gamers these days

The F7A is a bigger upgrade over the F7C. The F7C gets 2xS4, but otherwise is restricted to MK1 turrets, so you are basically upgrading the wing hardpoints from S3 to S4 over what the MK1 has. The F7A has two new turrets that each hold 2xS3 giving you total hardpoints of 2xS4 and 4xS3. Identical to what the Hurricane has. The MK2C is a 56 dps upgrade over the SH and the MK2A is a 1140 dps upgrade over the SH.
thats hillarius and not even true :D You can find F7As in game now and if you softkill it you can take its turret and place it on your F7C MK2... (and yes you can save it and keep the turret).
CR have said many times you will be able to get everything without paying money, you can find it, steal it or salvage/repair it. Nothing is off limits.

@@kennethjensen730No. The reason why they are selling paintjobs etc. is exactly becouse you wont be able to buy ships after game is released.
they are testing different ways of sustaining the game without having it be a pay to win. They also stated they dont want it to be a subscription. And they even talked about making the game compleatly free to play untill you buy your first ship. (this basically would allow players to have their friends join on their ships instead of buying the game.

@@Erik3ESo if your getting it now through soft killing one and taking the turrets, what happens at the next reset? in the past all ingame purchased items have vanished from your inventory. You only kept it if you purchased it out side the game. Now after the game goes live ingame items will of course stick around, but there is no guarantee that anything salvaged right now will survive the next patch wipe. So I am not talking about doing some trick ingame atm I am talking about what you are purchasing from CIG and what the token turns it into. Sorry I didnt realize I needed to spell what I was talking about for you. Next time i will try to take you into account and make a super long post spelling out every little detail of what I am saying.

CIG set another new earnings record in 2023 like every year. 7 mill per month low estimate = 84 million per year and they earned 113 million or so last year - thats way up from 2020 when they hit 50 million in 1 year for the first time..buckle up because 2024 and 2025 are going to demolish the records. Thats nothing compared to a CSGo or Fortnite - but in its genre.. the EvE, Elites, No Mans Skies.. etc they never had a year in their history that comes close to SC@@WhenBaconFlies-eo6xm
Well, here the thing HD2 is the fourth game of the studio and probably the first really successful and palworld is Iike sixth? High value success in game development is mostly luck. You can make a good game and it will sell OK but barely enough to make another game or you can make a jank game out of store assets and it will sell millions because some random crazy things

I give up with the Overdrive event, the Mission itself is really cool and a step in the right direction. but the Server NPC desync is so bad it can take up to 10 seconds for a NPC to decide its going to die. The CC is really cool, but because my toon will be wearing a helmet most of the time, i agree we could do with Armor customizer
If I understand this F7A upgrade correctly, normally we get civilian modified ships, and superhornet was suppose to be the closes one to have military fit so how it come now we are getting upgrade to military F7A fit... Can anyone explain it to me or is this another case of F8-will be achievable only by completing SQ42 and suddenly they changed their mind and it was on sale, is that same case now with this F7A upgrade? because these inconsistencies are starting to feel like typical mobile game :(
I think it is the case. I personally don't mind it, if we still will get a free F7 and/or F8 for completing the SQ42 - those people who pay just get it earlier with skins that will show they bought it, instead of completing the campaign. If they give us maybe some unique guns on those SQ42 F7/8s I'll be fully satisfied with this. But perhaps I'm in minority here.
You don't understand correctly. They never said the f8 wouldn't be sold. That was warped information spread around by youtubers and streamers.
You can look anywhere and everywhere. You won't find an actual post from cig that said the f8 won't be sold.
Most likely finishing/beating SQ42 will probably give you access to pledge for the F8 like the gold ticket did. I could be wrong but I don't see them giving you a "free" ship just bc you paid whatever it is they charge for SQ42. But you never know with CIG they said the F8C was a "limited" 10 day sale that turned into multiple sales.
I'd like to think they'll ease up on the in-game events being tied to a sale when the game goes live. But i only imagine them doubling down on that sort of thing.
At least the Letter from The Chairman contained fewer Molyneux Moments than previous ones.
No glint at night. There should be night/thermoptic vision to deal with hostels at night, plus muzzle flash. I do see how it is a one size fixes all game play, although that's leaving out pros and cons of night fights.

I honestly hate glint. Snipers are meant to he feared. With glint, there’s no fear, just a soft core challenge of who can line up the shot first. The guy with a sniper (that takes longer to shoulder and ADS as of 3.23) or the guy with a mid-long range dmr/ar with no such handicap… sounds like sniping is gonna be a lot less enjoyable from now on but we shall see.
glint does happen though. They have to make it a game that is some what balanced in the end, so I'd rather have arcade style glint instead of no glint if making natural glint happen adds 6 months of dev time to a dedicated team.
I would go even further and seeing the new current Helldivers 2 gameplay, they could just try to clone that and people would be happy, really anything and people would be happy.
🤔for me least my take it seems you want to camp and just get free kills and loot with no downfall. What does muzzle flash do when you die from one shot on a sniper? Nothing. Glint least gives a warning of hey there is a pirate camping. I agree with the thermo visions but we need this in till they test and find a better way. Cause atm everyone camps with snipers day/night with no downfall for easy loot to take. That just gets old quick and makes alot of people quit the game slowly losing the player base that want to even try it out. (Not coming at you just my take if you wanna hear it out o7 fly safe and be friendly)

Great review as always! As far as sniper glint goes, I think it should only be implemented if they can figure out how to make it physically based on lighting angles. If the sun is beaming toward the scope, fine. But if they're in the shadows or facing away from any light sources, no glint.
FYI, moving from LA to Texas studio is a 2 hour difference. Not that even this is justifiable as somehow going to make a difference but yea! have to say I got bent reading the SQ42 report. They tried to tell us the game was done and was in polish phase. The report if you can read between the lines, they are a long way off from what should be considered "final polish" and its crystal clear it is still in final development. Comical their choice of words while describing the work ongoing using words like "continue to improve" and "make key enhancements and refinements". Which is not words that would be used to describe "final polish by any stretch of the imagination! Getting sick of the word salad BS used to cover up their progress and making it sound like more is done then is done!
I asked this same question with the last SQ42 monthly report, if this is feature complete why are they still doing R&D work on the temporal render mode?
They said they were feature complete so they should be beyond R&D and on to polishing this feature.
This time of year, it's a 2hr time difference between LA and Texas. 2 hours doesn't seem like much, but a 7hr difference at least allows for a meeting or 2 between offices before the UK office leaves for the day. Add in, having people start earlier in TX and later in UK and you have more crossover time. Even if it's just 1 hour on each side. so, 7a-4p in tx and 9p-6p uk.
On the bright side, they didn't force a move to like NY or somewhere on the east coast.
I'm just disapointed it's the Mk II that's being unlocked, and not the Mk I

As someone who's no stranger to giving CIG a bunch of money, I thought the event was pretty good. It gave me a reason to play whether I care much about the hornet upgrade or not, it just felt like a reason to play. I'll take it. Def understand the criticism though.

The event itself is one of the first from CIG where small groups of players are actually having to play with randoms to get the accomplishments. New friends/crewmates are being made that otherwise wouldn't have without this event. And I doubt the push to crew up with randoms would have been as urgent if a free upgrade to the F7A wasn't the prize.

It’s always seemed so weird to me that I have to Frankenstein a character from other heads. I don’t understand why we need this dna blending system in the first place. They keep saying that they ‘preserved the original system’ like that should be some sort of bonus?
My only guess is that was someone’s dumb idea early on and it’s now too entrenched in the code to get rid of.

The event (regardless of the token at the end) is a lot of fun and got be back into the game and playing with a team of randoms. (Which I have never done before). I say good job CIG.
I would love to customize the ship like this. Just makes a huge difference when making my ship feel less cookie cutter
The F7A is a bit different than the F7C as the turret hard points are 1 size up (4x size 3 vs 2x size 2x & 2x size 1). Though, the F7C mkII has a better capacitor than the military variant (per erkul) - so a laser build with the F7A mk II will probably be painful.

Base price of a AAA title today is $69 + DLC. SQ42 will almost certainly have a "Premium Edition" "Collectors Special Edition" and DLC for missions.

Fantastic. Now I will "soon" be able to spend hours customizing my character, and then have nothing to do in the actual game. I wonder how many people they have working on this who could have been put to work "finishing" the game. I have taken a few months off. Decided to upgrade. Started a "defend mission". It looked 100% like it did those months ago. No discernable difference to the enemies. And then in wave three. I emptied a whole magazine at one baddie with a scope dead on target. He was jumping around so much and not a single shot hit him. One shot from him killed me. Then I logged off and haven't considered trying again. It is really admirable that so many people manage to keep playing this for years. That is dedication.

I hope that they don’t plan on 1.0 before EVERY concept ship is finished, new concepts AFTER that is okay but anything we pledged for before 1.0 needs to be ready FOR 1.0….. there are people that will have an immediate game plan on launch and put good money into concepts for the first launch hours

Yes unfortunately, also I was playing hockey during the event. The only thing I was able to get to before they shut it down was the broken character creator. So there wasn’t a ton to add anyway.

I've never cared for character customizers, I just spend a minute or two making something that remotely resembles my irl self then go on my way. However, even as someone who wont use it, I can tell this customizer is probably the best in any game. The fidelity of the skin and hair is amazing, which really adds to the experience I think cause whatever you create actually feels real. Another example of CIG game design actually being good when they really try.
Talking about sales and marketing staff as if they're not part of cigs strategy is throwing them under the bus a bit for decisions made by Chris and the execs. Layoffs, office downsizing, and sales events like the f8 and F7A all come from the top down.

How should shocking is it really that they are a business that monetizes their work? The event is great fun for the moment and those not wanting to spend money don't have to. They can wait until they are able to earn the f7c II in-game then upgrade it with the token for the f7a.
The one thing i have little tolerance for is monetization. Im going to tear them a new one .....after this word from our sponsors.
A lot of the people I play with are playing the overdrive event. For me, I don't ever plan on buying the MkII, and it feels pointless to grind for the next 5 weeks for a token I won't get to use. Between this and the golden ticket event, It really feels like the last few events are credit card parties made for people who are willing to constantly throw money at the game.
Long time no see sealion, I get how you feel I myself just used store credit from a ship I didn't use but for people that I've met during the event and we're playing it once I told them how the event works and that you need to have the currently available mk2 they decided they didn't really want to play the event anymore since all they put into the game with irl money was buying an aurora and will not be able to upgrade to the free upgrade token they would or will get from the event, I helped an entire group of 5 people figure out how to do the event and they had fun until I told them the info about what it's all about and it hurt to hear the excitement become disappointment

imo, Ghost Recon Wildlands and Battlefield are better shooters to be taking notes from compared to CoD. Breakpoint had some good upgrades to some things, but combat AI, map, and story was objectively better in Wildlands.

f7c-f7a is more then just a loadout change stronger power plant and better missles
Will it be what is needed in server meshing or just another stop gap? Static server meshing where servers are locked in specific locations and stay or dynamic server meshing where servers adjust as player count in each area fluctuates?
Say during an event like SoO? Will a server dynamic move or bring online a server to focus on the Orison location while a second envelopes the planet and surrounding area with a lower but substantial in transit and just normal player count doing none event game loops?
As a static server mesh would easily get crashed with a larger pop count congregating on the event.

They should really limit the character creator to blend between existing faces, and also limit the make-uo option. Else players will make a bunch of freak faces for fun, and the immersion will drop.
either ship and cosmetics sales or they go subscription. They still gotta make money until the game is officially released and they can get more people playing and .... sell ships? or subs. I am not placing bets on which way they go. they gotta make money. As we know about promises... they go back on them if they gotta make money so subscriptions are never out of the question. So i rather they find a way to make money selling ships.
Even if that compromises the point of playing the game? Subscription is a price to entry, selling ships to get any worth out of the gameplay is monetizing the reason to play. Not to mention the pricing on those ships is absurd
@@Nick-cs4oc i used to play eve and wow and spent about 15 a month. I then jumped into star citizen and decided I would just get a ship and upgrade 15-20 a month. Doing it that way I realized there was a pretty goog path to upgrade my ship every month for a few bucks and realized that the ships are kind of priced around you spending a subscription worth of money to work your way up the ships. I did that all the way up to a carrack and started over with another ship. then melt and upgrade ships as the money built up so the pricing in the store made sense. Unless you really really wanted to skip the early game and jump in at hundreds or thousands but honestly if you really want to start in a career instead of learning the early game stuff you are jumping in at a 150 or so for any of the trade/mining/salvage/fighters.
So if you go the slow route of buying in with money then we are already spending about a subscription worth of money every few months if not more when shows hit.
The thing is you can just get a starter ship make money and buy any of the 150 career ships in about a week of play.. well prices changed so not sure if that is still the same. but you really dont have to buy those ships... at least until they run out of money and subscriptions or some other monetization comes in. Currently you do not have to spend a dime more than the starter.
They would likely do a battlepass kind of thing, where you get certain items or some other stuff.
@@Dorm_ they actually do have a battlepass kinda thing. the subscriptions for the magazine I think. 10 or 20 a month. get rec points for the arcade and a bit of gear and early access to the PTU before general access. and discounts and some other stuff. So kinda like one but not exactly
I hate the buy in stuff man, like ill do it but only cuz its something to do the "reward" wont apply to me cuz im not spending that money. Honestly id be happy with a special livery as a reward. costs them little gives me something.

F7c has 2 scu, which could be preferable thing to some people. F8 lightning should have some scu space atleast more than f7c mk2. All heavy fighters should have scu

Everyone in any fps game that ever suggests sniper glint (unless actually diegetic and systemically based on raytracing etc) should be fired on the spot. It has ruined every fps experience i have ever seen it touch. Battlefield became a joke of a game when they did it, COD did as well (arguably became a joke by the 3rd copy pasta edition anyway). It just rewards people who are fucking oblivious or incautious

CIG already confirmed on the FAQ for the overdrive event or atleast in one of the answers in the comments that the f7a mkII military upgrade only applies to a f7c mkII in your hangar that you bought on the store and not with one purchased ingame at a later date. Its basically like an CCU upgrade. The only actual free reward you get from the event itself is the 3 days rental to get you to buy one on the store.
"▲ Do I need a F7C Mk I or a F7C Mk II to use the F7A Mk II upgrade?
► Upon completion of the event, you will be rewarded with the free upgrade token whether you have the F7C MKII or not. *However, to use the upgrade token, you will need to have a Hornet F7C MKII in your hangar* ."
Don't see an issue with the MK2 event tbh. Not sure what the problem is...
Just like any corporate body they have salaries to pay, this is nothing new and should not surprise or shock anyone. It’s your choice to open your wallet.
They can pay salaries and sell ships without making them directly tied to gameplay. This argument is so frustrating to see. I want one thing in the game not to be directly tied to a store. How are people defending this?

The event wouldn't be so bad if the missions didn't get borked and the game didn't have all the issues it does. There's no way to know for sure if you have even completed all the steps you need for the upgrade, and many times when you log back in the missions display bugged.
Would much rather do the golden tickets again compared to this event because at least that way your character had an item in game that proved you got it.

I wish this game had a sub instead of a "pledge" store. I play games to be disconnected from real life but when everything in game has a real $€£ value it gets really hard to get immersed in the fictional world. Maybe Chris should think about that too.
It has a subscription model... what are you talking about? It has 2 in fact, a $10 and $20 model.
If you're just making the pay to win argument, everything is, or will be available to buy or find in game.
Even the rewards from concierge levels can quite literally just be found in random loot boxes for free in game.
And to top all that off, as Mike says all the time... there is no game to win right now... so how can you pay to win with no finish line?

If I start the game with an aurora, and you start the game with a Hornet MKII, you've obviously payed for an advantage. Don't act like it being a sandbox game means there's no "win state" that's just silly. @518UN4, I agree with you. I'd much rather the game have everyone star on an even footing, and have to pay per month.
I'd even be happy if all pledge ships were "on hold" for 6 months to a year after release, so that the power balance and economy had a chance to start out blank, and have the more dedicated groups (to playing the game) be able to get ahead or whatever. Then once most people have things bought, people would get their paid-for ships. But CIG will likely never do that.
@@llMoofasall there's obviously a win in the game. Some people find the game to be worth playing already and there is win conditions for them. If you pirate someone either the pirates win by killing the dude and stealing the cargo or the dude wins by escaping for example.
Especially in PVP the game is really pay to win because you can easily nullify the claim timer by just having more ships.
Also how many of these A2s bombing jt are probably real money ships?
With the ability to reclaim sup gear you pay your way out of doing bunkers or buying gear from other players if you want a fs9, grenade launcher, arrowhead and probably some other weapons.
Also this isn't just about p2w. Skins also matter less as in game rewards because they stuck out less next to all the other paid skins.
I'm not typing out every problem but these are just the ones I thought of right now.
Also the sub isn't for the game but to fund the video content (supposedly). The point of the sub I want is that we don't have macro and micro transactions as a trade off.
Tried playing overdrive and had to make new character then spawned and game crashed , verified game files then tried again , finally got to ship and flew to station but couldnt land because hangar doors wouldnt open , proceeded to go to lyria for first overdrive mission and only had pistol because I couldnt land at station to buy guns.... died and rage quit WTF WHY DO WE HAVE TO PLAY TO GET F7A mk 2 UPGRADE WHEN GAME IS SO BROKEN I CANT EVEN LAND MY SHIP!!! 🤬🤬🤬

Nah, I like it too, but the sale will only cost me a $5 upgrade on a sabre. The bigger issue is not knowing whether or not the event is event completed. Different news from CIG every day on Spectrum.

Wait, does this mean they will be selling the F7A stand alone later this year? Because if I can just buy the upgrade I might do that since I don't have the time. Only reason I'm interested in the event is because it sounds like it's a one time thing and only way to get it, buy we know how that goes.

Bit worried how long it'll run as I don't have a crew I run with (and tbh, the rewards structure of events like this doesn't exactly help convincing people I usually play games with to jump into SC...) and didn't really have time this weekend. So hoping it'll run for at least a while to give most people the chance to participate.

Make up isnt realistic at all, they need to add consumable make up resources that players need to grind for in order to make their make up after being wet or after the old one wears off in a dynamic system that shifts availability through supply and demand...
I need animations for doing your make up and new models for every make up brush, and DEF a ship specific to make up, maybe it has like the Tier 3 mirror that CIG teased in CitCon 2015.
I need a whole 1:30h episode of Jared making cringe puns about make up and I want that to be an announcement for the new whale tier of funding called "Yass Citizen" whos members are people who spent 1 mil more than the previous tier (Im not looking it up xD fu)
I need that system to be developed for the next 4 years when there will be a super cool sneak peak of them and then be delayed until eventually scrammed from the roadmap later on.

@@SaltEMike....pretty much every ship sale is a cash grab/content grab since "ships are content" to some degree or another. to then have the events reward (other then in game armor that will be wiped) to be based on a ship you have to buy with cash. im saltE too. dont get me wrong our "lord and savior" chris roberts still frisked my wallet and i got a new ship and did the event ... but it would be nice if they really want to stress test big events to make some of the events give something to everyone account bound so its not wiped and for it to include everyone without feeling a hand in my pocket all the time. I try to stay positive about this game though, been around since the kickstarter

How is the pledge drive 'pay to win'? Pledging the ship gets you zero advantages in the OD missions.

I own the original Hornet in game. The ship had some overhauls, but its definitely not on the level of gold standard ships like the Gladius or more recent ships like the Cutter. Either CIG does at some point swap the old F7C for the Mk2 or the have to do another quality pass on the old one. Instead of doing another bad cash grab, they could have upgraded the old F7C to the Mk2 for free. This way, the F7A upgrade token would have been much more viable, since many players own a F7C or can buy her with ingame money.
Just out of interest I went to the store and looked if I could upgrade my super hornet to MK2.. you can't. So that's that.
The fuckery on this one is pretty extreme. I mean, they can just Mk2 ANY ship in game. Arrow Mk2. Cutlass Mk2. C2 Mk2, FU Mk2, LOL Mk2.
FYI, one of the devs stated on spectrum that they intend to bring the MKI hornet up to gold standard, so at least at this point it doesn't look like they're maliciously charging us to update the old ships to me(The MK2 was also created way back in 2016 for SQ42, so it's likely been the plan to have the two ships co-exist for a long while now).
Doesn't excuse how they ended up releasing it, both the F7x MKII and F8C deserved much better.
