Looking back on SpongeBob SquarePants, it's honestly hard to pick a favorite season. I know my favorite lies somewhere within seasons 1-3 for sure. I always thought that by default it was season 1 because you can't beat the original. However, when I finished my my review of season 1, I couldn't help but think about how flawlessly they transitioned from season 1 through to season 2. It really felt like in a lot of ways, season 2 picked up right where season 1 left off but at the same time, season 2 felt new and fresh all on it's own. Aesthetically, it had made a pretty big shift, but as far as the shows roots go, everything stayed relatively the same, save for the fact that they upped the comedy factor by at least 3x. There's just something about the humor in season 2 of SpongeBob that really hits so much harder than season 1 did comedically. Don't get me wrong, season 1 was hilarious, but as they stepped forward into season 2, they really decided to kick it up a notch. On top of that, there really is just so much that makes it such a special season. That's why today, on our nostalgic walk down memory lane, we're embarking on a journey. It's a journey that feels relatively familiar, yet new all at the same time. It's one that I've been preparing for for months now. Grab a snack, grab a drink, and get comfy because today, we're diving back down to Bikini Bottom to check out Season 2 of SpongeBob SquarePants.

Fun Fact: the French Narrator is based on the Famous French Oceanographer and filmmaker Jacques Cousteau in the 1960’s. Stephen Hillenberg used to watch his documentaries as kid which inspired him to become a marine biologist. Jacques is usually photographed red cap. In Mimic Madness when SpongeBob is impersonating the French narrative, he’s dressed up just like him. It’s little things like that make me love that SpongeBob.

The early seasons were so iconic. If The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie ended up being the actual end to the series, it would've definitely been bittersweet. It would've been sad to have such an iconic series end, but it at least it would've ended on a high note rather than having it become a series that became a shell of its former self later on.

I dont think its a Continuity error that spongebob forgot how to tie shoes i think he felt pressured at the beginning and panic making him overthink it and forget
considering he may be (autistic) neurodivergent, I can see that, I always remembered tying my shoes through muscle memory, not actually knowing how to tie them on my own for a while
@@dracoc6907 some things I do out of muscle memory I know how to do it but once I'm good I'm on autopilot and if I'm interrupted for some reason it throws me off and I have to redo the one where i got thrown off
It’s like breathing for me! I can breathe just fine usually, but the second I have to think about it, I get so anxious about it that I forget to breathe at all! Or it’s atleast pretty difficult 😭😭😭

In the musical "Hello, Dolly" there's a number called "Before the Parade Passes By" where Dolly Levi escorts a marching band. Hence the line "and hello, Dolly!" as Spongebob's breath bowls the band over.
Interesting how they put that reference that not every kid would get (hell, not every adult for that matter).
Yay! I waited months for your review of Season 2. I watched your Season 1 review on a loop to help me sleep since I was having nightmares every night. It helped me sleep well, and instead of having horrifying nightmares, I now just dream about Spongebob.

I've never understood this, because I have always been SpongeBob and that'll probably never change for me. I think people just become grumps at some point in their life because life is very hard, but not me. I just barrel through every day, hopeful and optimistic that everything will turn out right. Wishful thinking, probably, but much better to my health than being as angry and mean as Squidward is. I don't get why people like him this much, oh well. That's society, I guess. Long live SpongeBob!

Facts I'm also autistic however being burnt out on everything people, interactions and such can turn ya into squidward so I understand and can identify quite well when your fed up.

One of my favorite episode from season 2 definitely is the graveyard shift. The story the over dramatic of SpongeBob being scared and ine of my favorite lines from that episode

That fact that so many SpongeBob references came from one episode (The Shoe Tying episode for example) is insane!! I think a lot of those "continuity errors" can be explained by episodes just not all being in chronological order.

I watched Bubblestand for the first time in a decade and it made me feel so emotional that I teared up.
It really does hit so hard when it's been nearly forever... Nostalgia is such a mixed emotion sometimes!

Season 2 being the best season of SpongeBob is one of the hills I'm willing to die on.
What was so cool about Season 2 was all those promos I remember for the VHS and DVDs for it. And the episode Shanghaiied that had three different endings.

the new seasons of SpongeBob are completely unrecognizable compared to the first three in my mind they're 2 different shows
Squidward is canonically an octopus and specifically a Giant octopus, presumably Enteroctopus dofleini, as confirmed in the season 10 episode Feral Friends though he’s been consistently referred to as an octopus in multiple episodes since at least season 7.
Stephen Hillenburg reportedly named the character Squidward because of the name Octoward "just didn't work" according to Squidward’s actor Rodger Bumpass in The Absorbing Tale Behind The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie
I would like to point out the Krusty Krab being open on a Sunday if no one EVER comes in on a Sunday is also out of character for Mr. Krabs. While being open 7 days a week would mean more chances to earn money, being open when NO ONE EVER comes in also means losing money.
Each season (seasons 1-4 specifically) has most episodes that can be quoted no mattter how old you get there will always be that one quote that can be uttered from the show
I like how the movie theater scenes in Something Smells gives an ire, kinda horror movie vibe. It gives good suspense. I like the camera angle when SpongeBob goes into the bathroom to check on Patrick after him fearfully realizing he “caught the ugly”

A curious fact about Bossy Boots is that in the Spanish dubbing, Bob, instead of being happy about new spatulas, is happy because he thinks Mr. Crab is getting married and shouts something about bachelor parties.

Loop di loop is how I learned how to tie my shoes--I always struggled with fine motor skills and I can never double knot my shoes but Loop Dee loop is such an iconic part of the show. I cannot wait until “The Graveyard Shift” is discussed

My favorite things about the show in its early seasons are the music and title cards. I love listening to the soundtracks and i always have that warm feeling when i hear them. The designs for the title cards themselves are so beautiful to me, and all the little quirks and details i find when i look at them again ate so amazing to me :)
Regarding SpongeBob calling the teenagers hot, I figured he was meaning it in a sense of “the hot new thing”, or in other words, “popular”. I interpreted him calling them “hot” as being tantamount to Pearl calling things “hip” and “coral”, not so much their appearances being attractive. I could be wrong. I don’t know how the writers meant it, and they may have wrote that just to force that remark about the grill, because that is so SpongeBob. He is the Hank Hill of under the sea.
Ocean Man also makes me emotional. It’s hard not to get emotional if you were just a kid when it came out and watched it, learned that’s the true ending for Spongebob, and remember Stephen Hillenburg is no longer with us.
You realize how much of Hillenburg himself was reflected and put into the cartoon, and that’s what made it so great.
i think the shoe tying episode is less so that spongebob doesn’t know how but that he forgot bc patrick asked him, i think it was the pressure lmao
My little brother only watches season two and I’ve waited months with baited breath to watch this video over and over again, just like he does lol. This season holds a particularly special place in my heart cause we had the whole season as a DVD box set. I have all these episodes practically engraved on my memory from how often I'd put the DVDs on after school. It truly was something special
In the shoes untied episode, the grill in krust krab is on opposite side of room rather than right behind window to Squidward's booth. I know it's for the purpose of the jokes in that scene. Plus couldn't SpongeBob ask Sandy for help with tying shoes

In Bossy Boots, I'm pretty sure SpongeBob means "hot" as in cool/trendy, not attractive. But I agree that it's an awkward choice of wording!
I think SpongeBob just forgot how to tie them even though he did in previous episodes! Even if you do something so many times, your brain starts to betray you and you are just unable to do it!
I think when he says “customers may be hot” he’s saying they are “hip, cool, happening” that sort of meaning.

Wait, "Bossy Boots" all took place within a single day? Even when the episode aired. I had assumed we were just seeing the events as they happened over the course of a week or two. Also; "Squidward can't make a Krabby Patty" Maybe he can't make it as well as SpongeBob, but I always assumed Squid was the cook until Sponge got hired and that's why during the Hook episode Squid was working the grill when Sponge "took a break" and Squid was giving Sponge a promotion when he left him running the cash register.

Second of all, is it just me, or does the animation look kinda... Remastered? It´s like they optimized it to fit with the current animation style (which in my not so humble opinion is terrible, worse than Looney Tunes)

SpongeBob taught me how to tie my shoes as a little kid. I struggled so much with laces, and it sucked because my two older siblings learned quickly so my parents were frustrated and all just about gave up on me. Turns out I just needed a song lol

One thing I constantly think about in the age SpongeBob was in is how likely it would still be in the minds of your average person in a very well looked upon manner with such love, how much of the care people gave for it would still be here is it truly ended after the movie and Season 4 never came? Would we have had the Nick Superbowl with SpongeBob if the show ended where it was? If they did the fakeout a couple of years ago after Stephen Hillenburg passed, would people have gotten as outraged? Is the fact SpongeBob continued and that while it did suffer for a while. Have many lows, but have also had many highs since then. The true reason for the love people have for the series?

My parents still has they SpongeBob album the got us several years ago. They have a home daycare and will still play the loop de loop song from time to time. Over the year, the kids were most fond of the Pantera pre-hibernation song.

It really helps me stay calm at work what with new machines installed we have a lot of problems and it's very stressful. But listening to your videos helps me stay calm through it all.
