The early seasons were so iconic. If The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie ended up being the actual end to the series, it would've definitely been bittersweet. One of my favorite episode from season 2 definitely is the graveyard shift. The story the over dramatic of SpongeBob being scared and ine of my favorite lines from that episode Suidward: "SpongeBob no matter what I've said i always sorta liked you Spongebob (in my opinion one of the most foul thing SpongeBob did to Squidward): "Squidward I used your clarinet to unclog my toilet" And tye reactions to hoth of them was priceless 😂😂😂
About the "customers may be hot" line- You may be too young for that one. It's just old slang for cool, hip, with it, in, the crowd, etc etc etc. "That's hot", "the hot thing", "it's hot"- was all very common vernacular in the 90's. It did not have the exclusive sensual connotations it has today.
Squidward is canonically an octopus and specifically a Giant octopus, presumably Enteroctopus dofleini, as confirmed in the season 10 episode Feral Friends though he’s been consistently referred to as an octopus in multiple episodes since at least season 7. Stephen Hillenburg reportedly named the character Squidward because of the name Octoward "just didn't work" according to Squidward’s actor Rodger Bumpass in The Absorbing Tale Behind The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie

Regarding SpongeBob calling the teenagers hot, I figured he was meaning it in a sense of “the hot new thing”, or in other words, “popular”. I interpreted him calling them “hot” as being tantamount to Pearl calling things “hip” and “coral”, not so much their appearances being attractive. I could be wrong. I don’t know how the writers meant it, and they may have wrote that just to force that remark about the grill, because that is so SpongeBob. He is the Hank Hill of under the sea.
The funny thing that I've taken away from Something Smells is the scene when SpongeBob is screaming "I'm ugly, and I'm proud!" You then get a quick shot to Squidward sunbathing on his roof, musing, "Is that what he calls it?". To anyone in the LGBT community, or a straight ally like myself, you get a little chuckle from it
Technically, Squidward is an octopus, they just gave him the name Squidward because something like Octward would sound pretty dumb, lol. There is a squid background character in the show, though. You see her sometimes.
My little brother only watches season two and I’ve waited months with baited breath to watch this video over and over again, just like he does lol. My favorite things about the show in its early seasons are the music and title cards. I love listening to the soundtracks and i always have that warm feeling when i hear them. The designs for the title cards themselves are so beautiful to me, and all the little quirks and details i find when i look at them again ate so amazing to me :)
I would like to point out the Krusty Krab being open on a Sunday if no one EVER comes in on a Sunday is also out of character for Mr. Krabs. While being open 7 days a week would mean more chances to earn money, being open when NO ONE EVER comes in also means losing money.
Ocean Man also makes me emotional. It’s hard not to get emotional if you were just a kid when it came out and watched it, learned that’s the true ending for Spongebob, and remember Stephen Hillenburg is no longer with us. You realize how much of Hillenburg himself was reflected and put into the cartoon, and that’s what made it so great.
Loop di loop is how I learned how to tie my shoes--I always struggled with fine motor skills and I can never double knot my shoes but Loop Dee loop is such an iconic part of the show. I cannot wait until “The Graveyard Shift” is discussed

They don’t look like they’re a tying shoe, more of a slip on or zip-up. SpongeBob knew how to tie his laces: Yes he did, although I’m pretty sure he has some sort of performance anxiety. There was a missed opportunity to use the Krusty Krab being closed on Sunday to transition into Something Smells since it takes place on a Sunday where Spongebob has a different list for the day than the one that says "Go to work, go to work, go to work, go to work, go to work".
mr crab could be strict but a softy. he might of been excited that his daughter wanted to work with him during the summer so he spent the money to show his appreciation to her. that also explain why he couldn't bear the idea of firing her himself, he felt it would break his daughter and his heart.
Wait, "Bossy Boots" all took place within a single day? Even when the episode aired. I had assumed we were just seeing the events as they happened over the course of a week or two. Also; "Squidward can't make a Krabby Patty" Maybe he can't make it as well as SpongeBob, but I always assumed Squid was the cook until Sponge got hired and that's why during the Hook episode Squid was working the grill when Sponge "took a break" and Squid was giving Sponge a promotion when he left him running the cash register.
In the shoes untied episode, the grill in krust krab is on opposite side of room rather than right behind window to Squidward's booth. I know it's for the purpose of the jokes in that scene. Plus couldn't SpongeBob ask Sandy for help with tying shoes

This season holds a particularly special place in my heart cause we had the whole season as a DVD box set. I have all these episodes practically engraved on my memory from how often I'd put the DVDs on after school. It truly was something special

I like how the movie theater scenes in Something Smells gives an ire, kinda horror movie vibe. It gives good suspense. I like the camera angle when SpongeBob goes into the bathroom to check on Patrick after him fearfully realizing he “caught the ugly”
2:05:34 Regarding the French Narrator I have been told that the choice for that particular accent as well as style of narration was inspired by a famous documentary filmmaker and marine life expert Jacques-Yves Cousteau, whom was one of Steven's idols. Eventually, Steven Hillenberg would wind up doing a short film called The Case Of The Sponge 'Bob', it was essentially a mini documentary to which compared various SpongeBob characters to the sea creatures they were based on, as well as showed some bits and pieces of Behind the Scenes stuff regarding the show itself. His co-host in that short was a relative to Jacques-Yves Cousteau I believe, though I forgot how he was related, my best guess is that he was either a son or a grand son. His name is or was Jean Micheal Cousteau. I can't help but imagine just how happy Steven must have been to meet a relative to one of his biggest idols, yet alone make a short film with him! I'm so proud of him as well as his accomplishments. I remember watching that said mini documentary a ton when I was little, via an extra in the DVD menu for The Spongebob Movie (aka the first movie with Neptune's crown). If they did the fakeout a couple of years ago after Stephen Hillenburg passed, would people have gotten as outraged? Is the fact SpongeBob continued and that while it did suffer for a while. Have many lows, but have also had many highs since then. The true reason for the love people have for the series?

Season 1 can be a good damn laugh riot when it comes to it.
Regarding SpongeBob calling the teenagers hot, I figured he was meaning it in a sense of “the hot new thing”, or in other words, “popular”. I interpreted him calling them “hot” as being tantamount to Pearl calling things “hip” and “coral”, not so much their appearances being attractive. I could be wrong. I don’t know how the writers meant it, and they may have wrote that just to force that remark about the grill, because that is so SpongeBob. He is the Hank Hill of under the sea.

The funny thing that I've taken away from Something Smells is the scene when SpongeBob is screaming "I'm ugly, and I'm proud!"
You then get a quick shot to Squidward sunbathing on his roof, musing, "Is that what he calls it?". To anyone in the LGBT community, or a straight ally like myself, you get a little chuckle from it

Technically, Squidward is an octopus, they just gave him the name Squidward because something like Octward would sound pretty dumb, lol. There is a squid background character in the show, though. You see her sometimes.

My little brother only watches season two and I’ve waited months with baited breath to watch this video over and over again, just like he does lol. Thank you for the comfort of a comprehensive video about something I spent a lot of childhood dissecting and watching alongside my brother in two different ways
My favorite things about the show in its early seasons are the music and title cards. I love listening to the soundtracks and i always have that warm feeling when i hear them. The designs for the title cards themselves are so beautiful to me, and all the little quirks and details i find when i look at them again ate so amazing to me :)
I would like to point out the Krusty Krab being open on a Sunday if no one EVER comes in on a Sunday is also out of character for Mr. Krabs. While being open 7 days a week would mean more chances to earn money, being open when NO ONE EVER comes in also means losing money.
So happy that this video exists now so I can watch it over and over again 😅🙏✨

Ocean Man also makes me emotional. It’s hard not to get emotional if you were just a kid when it came out and watched it, learned that’s the true ending for Spongebob, and remember Stephen Hillenburg is no longer with us.
You realize how much of Hillenburg himself was reflected and put into the cartoon, and that’s what made it so great.
Looking forward to when Graveyard Shift comes up, the ending always leaves me in stitches. Good job on the video, keep it up!

Loop di loop is how I learned how to tie my shoes--I always struggled with fine motor skills and I can never double knot my shoes but Loop Dee loop is such an iconic part of the show. I cannot wait until “The Graveyard Shift” is discussed

Asking Mrs. Puff: Even tho Mrs Puff does wear shoes, I always imagined she wore some sort of clog. They don’t look like they’re a tying shoe, more of a slip on or zip-up.
SpongeBob knew how to tie his laces: Yes he did, although I’m pretty sure he has some sort of performance anxiety. Like he sort of freezes and forgets what he’s supposed to do if he knows that eyes are watching him. I can’t name specific episodes, but I remember this being an ongoing trait of his through the run of the show.
Squidward eating Krabby Patties: This one def a continuity error but maybe an explanation of him saying he never tried krabby patties was bc krabby patties were kinda being shoved down his gullet so he didn’t really have time to process eating them. Altho he def chewed that first bite…

There was a missed opportunity to use the Krusty Krab being closed on Sunday to transition into Something Smells since it takes place on a Sunday where Spongebob has a different list for the day than the one that says "Go to work, go to work, go to work, go to work, go to work".
mr crab could be strict but a softy. he might of been excited that his daughter wanted to work with him during the summer so he spent the money to show his appreciation to her. that also explain why he couldn't bear the idea of firing her himself, he felt it would break his daughter and his heart.
Wait, "Bossy Boots" all took place within a single day? Even when the episode aired. I had assumed we were just seeing the events as they happened over the course of a week or two. Also; "Squidward can't make a Krabby Patty" Maybe he can't make it as well as SpongeBob, but I always assumed Squid was the cook until Sponge got hired and that's why during the Hook episode Squid was working the grill when Sponge "took a break" and Squid was giving Sponge a promotion when he left him running the cash register.

Shaun, I want to thank you for your effort and love for SpongeBob. These earlier seasons really meant something to me and influenced my childhood, to see a deep review and understanding of them is amazing.
This season holds a particularly special place in my heart cause we had the whole season as a DVD box set. I have all these episodes practically engraved on my memory from how often I'd put the DVDs on after school. It truly was something special

I like how the movie theater scenes in Something Smells gives an ire, kinda horror movie vibe. It gives good suspense. I like the camera angle when SpongeBob goes into the bathroom to check on Patrick after him fearfully realizing he “caught the ugly”

Regarding the French Narrator I have been told that the choice for that particular accent as well as style of narration was inspired by a famous documentary filmmaker and marine life expert Jacques-Yves Cousteau, whom was one of Steven's idols. Eventually, Steven Hillenberg would wind up doing a short film called The Case Of The Sponge 'Bob', it was essentially a mini documentary to which compared various SpongeBob characters to the sea creatures they were based on, as well as showed some bits and pieces of Behind the Scenes stuff regarding the show itself. His co-host in that short was a relative to Jacques-Yves Cousteau I believe, though I forgot how he was related, my best guess is that he was either a son or a grand son. His name is or was Jean Micheal Cousteau. I can't help but imagine just how happy Steven must have been to meet a relative to one of his biggest idols, yet alone make a short film with him! I'm so proud of him as well as his accomplishments.
I remember watching that said mini documentary a ton when I was little, via an extra in the DVD menu for The Spongebob Movie (aka the first movie with Neptune's crown). SpongeBob taught me how to tie my shoes as a little kid. I struggled so much with laces, and it sucked because my two older siblings learned quickly so my parents were frustrated and all just about gave up on me. Turns out I just needed a song lol
One thing I constantly think about in the age SpongeBob was in is how likely it would still be in the minds of your average person in a very well looked upon manner with such love, how much of the care people gave for it would still be here is it truly ended after the movie and Season 4 never came? Would we have had the Nick Superbowl with SpongeBob if the show ended where it was? If they did the fakeout a couple of years ago after Stephen Hillenburg passed, would people have gotten as outraged? Is the fact SpongeBob continued and that while it did suffer for a while. Have many lows, but have also had many highs since then. The true reason for the love people have for the series?
