- There is a lot of information on swapping RBs in to 240sx but you don't need to know all of it. This video will show you what you need to complete the swap and gives you a realistic idea of the cost and what you need to do.

RB20DET Fluids
Motor Oil:
7 quarts of 0w-40. Always have more oil left over.
Coolant:
2 gallons of Green coolant.
Trans Oil:
3qts 75w-90 gear oil.
Oil Filter:
300zx oil filter unless you use a relocation plate.

Sr’s are so much easier. But rb’s sound so much better. Sr’s end up being cheaper usually.
Up to personal preference and budget. Sr is also so common and unoriginal lol but still a great motor. I would take any RB or JZ over a sr though but that's just me🤷♂️😂
In 2013 $1500 rb trans and motor ecu and maf. Swapped it with a buddy. Ebay mount kit(slide). Ebay turbo pipe kit. Ka altenator driveshaft,slave, radiator and fan(trimmed blades) dohc powersteering lines and tach. W.S. harness, Rotated shifter 180 degrees. 1989 s13. Total $2200
If only it was that cheap in 2020 lol

I'm sure it's not too hard but it's really easy to just ditch AC altogether. Anything is possible though

Hi there you didn't mention that if your car is a automatic and your going to manual transmission your tail shaft will have to be made 50mm longer on a s13 2door silvia coupe as I'm about to do my engine conversion from a sr20de automatic to a series 2 RB20DET I'm in Sydney Australia an the go to guys for these type of engine swop is SSS autos in Sydney if any aussie need to know .

I’m Thinking of doing an rb 26 swap
Any custom fab to make it fit or is it essentially just a bolt in. If I do the rb20 I’ll do a cd009 just cause they’re awesome. Also is there any other things that I should look into? Like do I need custom driveshaft or anything? I just don’t know what to do with my 240. Sr’s cheaper but rb sounds better. I don’t have ls or 2j money.
Cd009 swap will need another 3-4k of parts to make it fit. Everything else is explained in the video. Theres cd009 to rb kits online
Did you have the side mount manifold, or did you go straight to the front mount? I want to try to use the Mishimoto m-line intercooler, which is similar to yours. If so how bad was it to run your piping? I'll eventually get a front mount on there but for a while I'll probably run the stock one and the stock turbo.

Sorry man, I've never messed with turbos and it's the part I'm having the most trouble with, I'm sure it'll work it's more just the question of how to run the piping, but for sure I'll hit you up on insta.

if i will choose to do an rb25det swap will it be the same as the rb20det swap and use the same parts and steps as you?
Yeah the rb25 is really similar to rb20 besides the trans. Rb25 trans you'll need a new driveshaft but I think the trans mount is the same. The motor mounts are also the same
the one that mounts on block of the rb20 engine.
How much should I expect to pay for an RB20 with trans and turbo?
If you get a cefiro a31 crossmember your life will be easier . They share suspension parts but the cefiro has an rb20
Oh that makes sense. I didn't know that the cefiro crossmember bolts up to schassis. I have the r32 crossmember and it was a direct bolt it. The trans mount is all I had to modify
A31 engine crossmember is the same as the R32
if so, what type of power steering bracket are you using.
Would a rb20 transmission work with a ka24de? My 240 is currently an auto n i wanna manual swap it
You would need a ka24de bellhousing in order to make that work. RB transmissions are harder to find and more expensive typically. Atleast that's how it is here in California. The RB gearbox is about an inch shorter than the KA one, I think it's the bellhousing length though. Depending on where you live a KA trans would be cheaper and better to swap in
Hey man great vid, one question, how did you made your gauges work witht he wiring specialities harness? Im doing a rb25det neo swap on my 88 hardbody, and im going to go with the universal rb harness, but want to know what i would need to make my cuatomw gaugez work with the wiring?
I have an aem dash that’s fed data from the ecu so it’s different than the oem cluster. Sorry man 😅

Hey mr. FSO , I’m having trouble with the steering column clearance. Steering column Shaft is hitting the stock rb20 turbo elbow . Any options?

So I ended up getting the isr swap kit for the rb20 s13 swap and Im not sure if you have to hammer the trans tunnel for the starter. Any ideas how much or if any the trans tunnel has to be hit in?
I've heard only the area around the starter needs to be hammered. You'll have to test fit it and see where it hits
You don't have to hammer the trans tunnel do you? I've got two 240sx's one bone stock and very clean but has 315k miles and the other with an then swapped in it that isn't near as clean. I wanna swap the rb into my clean one and make it a show car/fun daily and the other maybe sell or turn it into a drift car with the 315k mile ka24de
In my experience no because the r32 subframe moves the motor forward like an inch but the mount kits push it back an inch and the bellhousing and starter hit the chassis. So depending on which route you go it may or may not need to be hammered

Did you have to bash in your transmission tunnel? I’ve had a lot of people tell me they had to bash the tunnel in because the trans didn’t fit
With the r32 crossmember you don't need to but if you will need to modify the trans mount to bring it forward more. Swap kits put the motor back so it would hit the firewall around the starter area. The trans itself is very similar to a ka and sr trans. The bellhousing is the difference.

What kind of intercooler piping for that “plazaman” manifold front facing ?
Supprised you didnt mention the head oil drain at the back of the engine before it goes in.
Because I don’t have one on this motor. Definitely good to have but I haven’t had any oil problems with this motor.
I plan on doing a rb25 swap in my s14 with the rb trans, but my car is currently a stock auto KA24. How can I do the Manuel swap with it?
Basically you need everything to do a normal 5 speed swap. There's so much information on forums about how to do that. Just gotta do some research.

How long did this swap take
It got tuned for the first time 11 months after buying the motor. About 4-5 months later it was retuned with more boost

Are rb20 parts scarce? I wanna build one next year for my m30 coupe. I notice rb20s are being more used now.
There's a couple parts like the Cam angle sensor and knock sensors that are hard to source but just about everything else has an upgrade that's more readily available so you can get parts from your local auto parts store. The rb20 is starting to get recognized as a really good motor for drifting because it has really thick cylinder walls and can bounce off the limiter all day long with no issues. Also it happens to be one of the best sounding motors too lol I'm starting to see people swapping it in to other chassis now too not just 240s anymore.

@@FSOMedia Cam angle sensor is easy to find, VG30 cam angle sensor from Z32 300zx works fine.
Is this a single turbo swap or twin turbo on the rb20.
Rb20s are single turbo from factory. I think I've seen 1 twin turbo one that someone made but 99% or rb20dets are single turbo including mine.

On 17.5psi I'm making 330whp and 260 torque.
That's a lot of boots , I'm really debating on rb20 or doing a LS swap on my Datsun 260z
It's hard to beat an LS if you want just power and torque down low and you like the sound. If you want jdm noises and aren't really going for big power then rb20 is the way to go. Go through and replace the 30 year old shit and it'll just take the a use you throw at it unless you push too much boost on a stock motor. 20-23 psi seems to be where it gets a little iffy but plenty of people push more reliably on stock motors
