- Because the ASRock B550 PG Velocita doesn’t come with integrated WiFi, but does have an available m.2 slot and antenna holes in the I/O shield, I wanted to see how easy and affordable it was to add this feature. All I had to do was find the right m.2 card with the latest standards and it was off to the races. The best part is, this video will apply to nearly anyone with a motherboard that has an m.2 WiFi slot! Welcome to the Middle of Knowhere.

Hi All, thanks for coming to the Middle of Knowhere and spending some time here. If you're interested in the WiFi M.2 card, I've put a link in the description. Also, installing it was pretty easy so don't be afraid to take on such tasks for your components. The rewards are well worth the effort!
Dude, thank you so much for this video! I just recently built a rig for a friend of mine using an ASRock mobo and I had no idea about the right M.2 WiFi card or how to undo the IO shield for installing the antenna mounts. This video was loads of help, thank you so much for the tuitorial!
That is fantastic to hear. Thank you for watching, and I'm glad the video helped!
thanks, learned something new today if I want to pick up a mobo without onboard Wi-Fi pre-installed
Thanks for the upload! I got a mATX steel legend board and I had no idea i could save a spot for a soundcard/capture card.
Nice job. you make it seem easy.
Thanks much for the brief details..... I really respect the detailed video I found on this topic. Best regards from, Bombay India.
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks thats helped me how to figure out.
good video. you make it seem easy.
Thank you. :) I was actually surprised how easy it was. Sometimes it can seem daunting to try these kind of upgrades, but PC parts are more robust than we think. Give it a go! :)
Just looking to learn how to upgrade my network card and came across this video. The intro screen popped up and I noticed a familiar city right away! First one of these so wish me luck…!
Good luck!
Your desk rag is beautiful, however it distracts viewing, so I recommend to replace it wit one tone boring rag.
I recommend a socket and an open end box wrench. Use the right tools on the right parts...no slipping scratching gouging parts...
I guess if you have that open socket available and in that small size, def.
Yeah, I'm gonna say it's well worth it to spend a little extra to buy the version of the board with wifi already installed. And then if you need to upgrade it in the future, then you can go through all that. I wish wifi was standard, to the point where you would have to actively seek boards that were not ready with on board wifi.
Still going thru all your old videos on motherboards. There's one I'm thinking about going with on my build. MSI PRO B550M-VC WIFI. It's a upgraded of Thier VDH model . And Thier isn't anyone on RUclips who has done a review of it yet. Just a thought
I thought the micro atx motherboard I brought had wifi but then I realized it didnt even if I got a wifi card it wouldnt fit when I put gpu in so thank you for this
Glad I could help! Thank you for watching. :)
I’ve bought two different m.2 adapters. Both show wifi connections but never connect. B760 pro as. On fibre internet. All the latest drivers. Been thru every forum and RUclips video lol. However the card does work with the pcie slot with the antenna
I have a different sort of issue currently using asrock x570 steel legend and im using a gigabyte m.2 gaming wifi but my windows refuses to detect cant figure out the issue
Installed one do i need any drivers for it to work as installed and not showing any wifi on my motherboard
Less waffle and timestamps.
hello. which m.2 key wifi could he put on my motherboard b550m pro 4 asrock
Nice video. Quick comment: Don't forget to screw on the antennas before powering up as its likely to blow the RF chip.
I did not know that. Is there a reason this would happen? I've not screwed on antennas before when not using the wifi.
@@MiddleofKnowhere Well I suppose it depends on the chip but once the driver is loaded the OS will start pumping out signals and that power has to go (dissipate) somewhere. I've seen it happen in the past on a couple of office PCs after they were unboxed without the antennas being attached.
Interesting. Def don’t want thee at t to happen. Maybe I’ll plug the antennas into my dark hero just in case
Do you have any recommendations as far as an external antenna that I can mount higher up on my desk or such? I have one from a previous m.2 wifi card that was for Intel only systems I just wasn't sure if the antenna would matter or make a difference.
I don't think it will make a difference, which one you get but here's one. Just do some research and go for the best rated to best price balance. amzn.to/3Plzfqb
Problem guys :( MB AsRock B650M PG Lightning cant see my intel 6e AX210. I place it in slot m.2 WIFI on motherboard, try many drivers but in device manager cant see AX210 mw wifi card. Maybe i need switch on some setting in BIOS ?
Can i install in m.2 slot that not for wifi?
i cant find the cables for the card please help.
will be installing this into my pc to fix Bluetooth disconnects from my dongle. Although will be installing from the pcie bracket due to my pc having full Hard tube installed on the system atm so removing cover+ io shield will not be possible
Awesome. Yeah, I like that you can do either or for installation. Would love to see pics of your loop. Hit me up on Twitter or FB.
Can I add this to my ASRock x570 extreme4? I’ve been using my computer for several years on Ethernet cable but now relocated to where only wifi is available. What would be some challenges to installing wifi after pc has been completed?
Getting access will be your biggest challenge. You'll need to probably remove the Graphics Card at the minimum. If you don't care about routing the antenna to the I/O shield, it won't be as much an issue as you can use the pcie slots.
In PCI express cards, you need to connect it from the module to the motherboard with a black cable for bluetooth. So if we connect it like you did, does the bluetooth work well? Thank you. My Motherboard is ASUS TUF GAMING B660M-E D4 Intel LGA1700 DDR4 3200MHz (OC) M.2 mATX Motherboard.
Hi and thanks for commenting. I just added a Bluetooth mouse to the PC with this wifi card and had 0 issues. It was near instant after hitting the pairing button then going into windows (win 11) and adding device.
@@MiddleofKnowhere Got it just by plugging in the module If Wifi and Bluetooth are working great. Thanks for the answer.
I still have the black cords plugged in as well so the antennas can be plugged in the io shield, but those should be for the dual band wifi not necessarily the bt at least by my understanding.
@@MiddleofKnowhere I found out what the black wire does. To power the PCIe card. If we don't connect the black wire I guess the Pcie card is not working. Thanks for the comment though.
so i can hotspot my pc with my android wifi right?
Is there any places that I can get a bracket for the antenas slot?? I got a b560m pro 4 and j want to add wifi 806.11 and I noticed I cat have the brackets for the antenas as the wifi version of the motherboard, I didn't get that one because I couldn't afford it so
the version I bought came with PCI slot brackets where you could screw in the antennas that way. It's possible you could do it that way if the I/O shield doesn't have holes.
I can't for the life of me connect the antenna cables to the wifi card and I'm losing my mind. I line up the cable with the card hole. I push down and nothing happens.
I also wiggle in different directions to see if its maybe not aligned properly, but nothing. Idk what to do
Hi. Can i just install the m.2 wifi without the antenna? I have another pc also and it's rocking fine without antenna. I hope i will be replied
I don't think so, i've just installed an AX210 without an antenna and it doesn't seem to work
Hi there I have asrock b550m pro4 mobo. Is it safe to reroute the m.2 antenna cables under the vrm heatsink? Because the antenna socket is on the very top of the io shield.
i wouldn't go under it like to the point of taking the heatsink off, routing cables under then putting it back on. try to route it and maybe use some kind of tape to keep them pinned if they keep falling off
@@MiddleofKnowhere I see, i'll try that then. Thanks for your suggestions! Cheers...
My ax210 doesnt have the 2 circle things on it to connect cables, and also didnt come with cables, any advice?
I brought antennaes but they just the ones with the big connectors to attach to outside of case, how do I buy the small ones and how do I connect them when my ax210 doesnt have connectors on it?
Also my asrock backplate doesnt have holes for the wifi antennaes.
Sound like you bought a laptop only card. You need to make sure what you buy is for a motherboard and gas all the things you need including pci slot mounting if your rear io cannot accommodate the antenna cables and coax connectors.
@@MiddleofKnowhere Yeah I have brought a bracket and cables now, but it was advertised as for pcs and laptops, not just laptops. It does have the connectors, they just absolutely tiny so had to look hard for them. Thanks
I just recently replaced my old wifi card of my laptop with Intel ax210ngw, but my old wifi card has only 1 antenna. The new wifi card I bought doesn't include antennas, so it's currently using only 1 antenna (Inserted to "main" antenna port). The wifi works but I am having a problem with the bluetooth connection. Is the "aux" antenna port for bluetooth? Will the bluetooth connection be fixed once I have the 2nd antenna for the aux port? I'm still waiting for the extra antenna I bought online. Tia
How did it go?
@Godisgood137 Everything's working great after I installed the 2nd antenna. I was so worried at first because I thought that the new wifi card wasn't compatible with my laptop. It turns out I just needed the 2nd antenna for it to work. My wifi connection is so much faster now because my laptop now supports 5GHz connection, unlike before. And we have wifi 6 at home, so it's really great. The bluetooth works very well too, no connection problem anymore.
Do I need one with antennas? I got one without it and for some reason it doesn’t show me anything
The black cables? yes, you need those. The plastic antenna that screw in, you'll want those as well.
Wait where do I get these antenna cables from ? I don’t have them … they weren’t in the package from Amazon I think - also the screw .. I don’t have that either anymore fuuk😢😢
They should have come with the product if you bought one NOT for a laptop.
So I accidentally bought a wifi 6/Bluetooth 5.2 card but it was for a laptop and didn't come with the 2 cables. Are those two cables with the antennas on the outer side mandatory for wifi to work if only the card itself is in the motherboard
You're gonna need the wires and antennas. You won't get a signal, or at least a very strong one without them.
@@MiddleofKnowhere what if i only want the card for the bluetooth does it still work good without them?
sup can you recommend me a good mobo for the 5800x3D, I see so many options but got no clue which one is the most compatible. (Currently thinking of the asus rog strix b550-F gaming II)
That Asus board is actually a pretty good choice. It all depends on your budget and needs and then which features that board has.
@@MiddleofKnowhere Pretty much purely for gaming + one with wifi is what I am looking for. I was thinking about 300 max as my budget. Should I go with this asus board or do you recommend something else?
My antenna leads to the m.2 card are not colour coded, both are black so I presume it doesn't matter what is connected to what
mine weren't either. I do not think it matters.
So that is considered easy? I was seriously considering a budget build with this board and looking on Newegg. Is there an alternative version of this board that comes with Wifi? I've never purchased a non wifi board before, is this the standard process where you have to take everything apart?
Comparatively to other pc building activities like putting together a water loop, it was easy. This particular upgrade was a first for me, so you got to see me do it for the first time as well. I cannot recall if the pg velocity has a wifi version but there are motherboards by asrock that do come with a wifi card.
Also if you choose to use a pci slot you can buy a pci wifi card and then won’t have to take anything apart. Or even a usb wifi stick.
Where can i get a desk mat like yours ?:D
The one I have is no longer made, but @GamersNexus sells similar. I actually want one of theirs.
Isnt intel wifi bad? I have seen it cant keep constant internet under load
I've not heard of Intel wifi being bad. Most reviews I've read and what not prefer having an Intel NIC solution for the ethernet port, but seeing as wifi is a different story, it might perform differently as well. Having said that, Intel wifi has also been consumer reviewed fairly well.
This WIFI card is compatible with ASRock z490 phantom gaming 4? Thanks
If your motherboard slot has the same key-type then yes.
I assume it doesnt matter which connector on the Wifi module you connect to the left or right motherboard hole.
I don't believe so, at least it didn't appear that the wires were for anything specific.
can I do this with my ASROCK B450m pro4 motherboard
If it has the m.2 wifi slot, then yes you can.
Is it possible with an AsRock B550m Pro4? I don´t want to spend that much on the ATX version :D
if it has the slot then yeah you can add it.
@@MiddleofKnowhere ok thanks
I wish I could find a tutorial of how to do this when youre pc has already been built. I am absolutely not taking the motherboard out of my pc to get optimal wiring
If it's already been built and you don't want to remove the motherboard, you'd still probably have to remove the GPU to get access to the slot. You can then use the PCI brackets for the antenna cables and connect things that way.
is there any way to do this without removing my mobo from the case
Adding it to the I/O shield no. But if your wifi card comes with a pci slot cover for the antennas the. Yes. You may have to remove the gpu to get access to the m.2 slot though.
i wish you wouldve compared your download speeds to an ethernet just to see what the actual difference is
It's a good request. I have near 1Gb down and up speeds. Not sure how that would help though for people with slower connections.
So the screw m2 comes with the motherboard
Mine did yes.
Does it matter which processor you have
No it shouldn’t. Adding the wifi will be a separate thing and should be independent of the cpu.
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍💯💯
I guess the card sold to well after this.. price is now 64€
oh wow! That's pricey. Def look for alternative ones.
@@MiddleofKnowhere oh yeah, I found another one, that is basically the same thing xD Its always amusing to me how companies seem to buy up stuff and just put their own name on it. (it at least looks like this)
anyway, as for the plugs for the cables... they really do come off way to easy and with my shaky hands they were a pain to get back in ^^"
Still waiting for my new case though, the Asrock Steel legend is a bit to wide for my case, can't get all the cables in properly, and because of that can't get the pc to start up. Currently use my old mobo for now till my new case arrives.
At first I was worried that maybe the mobo is broken or something like that, so I put in my old 3200g (yes it is supposedly not supported for b550, but asrock did bring out bios for that and luckily my mobo came with a new bios version) put a 8gb stick of ram in and then connected my old 400w psu I still have lying around. booted right up into the bios (and a lot faster then this stupid biostar mobo I still use... my pc was originally a used prebuild, by now I replaced every single component besides the motherboard. Well in some days even that is changed xD (definitely will keep my 3200g in case I have problems with the gpu or something like that at some point. (well I do have a 1060 6gb lying around, so I guess its not that important xD)
*** What can you do with bluetooth on a desktop computer ???
Connect your phone, mice, keyboards, headsets and anything else that has Bluetooth connectivity.
@@MiddleofKnowhere ok thx :)
crying in Australian internet
I’ve heard some bad things about au internet and how the gov thinks shit speeds are good enough …
Cheaper ones? That one is 70€
Try searching amazon for wifi m.2 and see what the results are. You’ll want anything with wifi 6e and Bluetooth 5.2.
@@MiddleofKnowhere k thx. Can I take one from eBay for 13€ or do you think I should go PCIe? I just think it's smart to use that feature if I have it
Up to you really. A pcie slotted wifi solution can perform just as well as the m.2, but you’re then using a slot below your gpu and if you have a thick gpu you may not have room. I’m always for saving money if you can get the same results.
Hi I have a question can I put Wifi card on my Asrock B660m Pro it a Intel socket motherboard
If the B660m Pro board has the same kind of m.2 wifi slot with the same kind of Keying, then yeah, you should be good.
@@MiddleofKnowhere oh ok thx
