Yeah i had fun waking up every morning this past week and watching your California adventures over my morning cup of coffees like so what are we gonna see today Adam? You certainly showed some places that i have never seen before and probably never will being i rarely ever travel outside of my State North Carolina. Last time i was in Cali was back in 91'. So thanks for taking me along for the ride. 😄👍
So sad. The strip is pretty much gone as I remember it. The real Sunset Strip is now in my photo albums. I am glad I lived when I did. I saw and lived in the real California.
I lived on Sunset and can attest it was NOT this woke/ ass backwards place years ago. Makes me very sad so many crazies make the most fun place in the world like terrible
@@cosmicHalArizona 63-95 it was an awesome place to grow up ... lots of fun! Eric Underwood Class of 81 Downey High school CA ✌️ I did Eddie and Alex Van Halens Handprints in Terrazzo in front of the Guitar Center 92 thereabouts.✌️
I'm so grateful to have grown up in the 70-80s in Southern California. We saw so many bands at these clubs! So sad seeing them go. I didn't spend any time at viper tho
My dad built the stage and load-in area/business offices at The Viper Room (then called “The Central”) back in the early 80s. He also built the sound system there using elements from the back line PA and speakers he bought off of the David Bowie road crew (he was a roadie-turned-bodyguard for Bowie during the U.S. leg of the Ziggy Stardust and Diamond Dogs tours in the mid-70s). I remember being in The Central as a kid back then being loaded up with all the free soda I could drink (even poured by Bill Knorr, one of the two owners of venue back then) while my dad cut the braces and put the stage floor together. They even gave him a free unlimited bar tab in appreciation for building the club, that (oddly enough) carried over to the changeover to The Viper Room when Depp bought into it. I saw this first hand the only other time I went there around fifteen years ago- he just pointed at s slip of paper behind the bar, and the bartender started dispensing drinks. Crazy stuff. Even crazier was the fact the stage had remained unchanged (except for the addition of rugs and drapes) all that time too. Sad to think it will be all gone at some point in the near future.
I at one time have often walked these sidewalks and never knew some of the things that Adam and Daphne tells us. Probably should have taken one of those Hollywood Tours, but never did.
I believe that Jordan the Lion actually was able to get access inside of the viper room a while ago, because he had a friend who was performing there that night, so he was able to go through to videotape and documente all of different areas inside as well as the backstage areas and the Green room. He also documented as much of the paintings and murals that he could. That place is just soaked in history (as well as a lot of alcohol and urine, amongst lots of other stuff if we're being honest here, lol). But, you should definitely check it out if you haven't already. That goes for everyone reading this, of course. Lol. Thank you though for taking us along for your sightseeing trip today. Daphne sure is a great co-pilot during your outings. Looking forward to everything that you're going to show us in the next video! And drive safely, Adam!
@@TheDailyWoo I absolutely agree. I hope and pray I can make it back to LA and see a few places, including the Viper Room, before they are all gone. It's very sad to see history just to swept aside so casually, not taking it to consideration it's impact in American history and culture, plus pop culture and music history as well. Part of "growing up" I guess... 🤷♂️
@@TheDailyWoo can you separate the footage about the viper room and other places for us who are interested in just that rather hearing Tommy Lee and Morley crew every after each minute for us who arent interested are not interested in them but the buildings as the title states.
I've visited the Viper Room several times back in the days when Johnny Depp played there. I grew up on the Sunset Strip 1977-2015 either in clubs, bars, Tower Records, The Rainbow, Carney's, etc... My old band "The Shout" played the Roxy, the Troubadour, the Starwood, etc... So I knew and met many, many musicians and assorted other types. It was a great time and I do have a ton of stories... Good and sad. But the saddest of all besides the death of River Phoenix (I was there a day before, and the day after he died) Is the closing of the Cinerama Dome where I've been to a bunch of premieres, and always sat across from to watch the Hollywood Christmas Lane Parade every year from 1982-2007 That makes me tear up. A landmark above all others.
Adam your content for California has been great. The content collaboration with some of the you tubers has been knocking it out of the park. Thanks Adam.
I lived in WeHo for 16 years just south of the Sunset Strip. Small correction, the current State House was not the house of blues. The House of Blues was actually across from the Comedy Store. They built a monstrosity in its footprint. But a good friend of mine stole Zozo while drunk... from the HOB property while it was still functioning. Its sitting in his living room. A 4' statue of African design. Hilarious story btw on how it happened😁. lol There was a huge hill in the back of the HOB after the parking lot... it involved rolling it and him loosing balance and rolling with it during the escape. PS my last day in California was 2021. So many memories... we actually played at all the venues there including the Cat Club before they changed the name. (West of the Whiskey, owned by the drummer(? I think) of the band Stray Cats.) Also, that building w/ the plants climbing up the side used to be Ticketmaster. Not sure if it is now. When Lemmy was still alive, I'd always see him playing Video Poker at the Rainbow sitting at the outside bar. I actually thought, I wonder if he has a gambling problem... but I don't think he did. Also what made the Viper Room rock is they actually took the time to curtain the stage. So you didn't have to watch the band set up. The curtain was pulled back dramatically when the music started. A great way to create the 'magic' of listening to a band there. (ie the big reveal) Not sure if Johnny came up with that but being in a band, if he did, that was great insight on performance impact. Just that small thing...
Lol. I just wrote that as well as a bunch of other stuff that was incorrect. They have the love of the Strip but their knowledge needs to be checked. Unfortunately its not even an apt complex now or Id want to move there, but an office bldg..the very opposite of the HOB.
About 20 years ago in Roseville, Ca. I met a man (I can’t remember his name) at a really nice gym who was in his in eighties at the time. He told me he was the founder of the Guitar Center on Sunset. He took a liking to me and would tell me these really amazing detailed stories (I don’t think he was crazy!) of the famous musicians he met and personally knew in the 60’s. All of the rock icons you can think of, he shared these amazing stories with me.
Lived in Venice for a summer in 2006, worked at Pacific Design center down from Sunset, remember buying Gnarls Barkley album at Tower. So much history around there
I went into the Viper Room a few months ago and I was talking to someone on the staff about being so bummed it was being torn down. She told me not to believe it and that it was a big PR Stunt. I hope she’s right!
Im wondering why she said that. Maybe sarcasm... its been bought along with the liquor store next door, the sushi place next to that and Aahs on the corner. That whole block is going to be a real estate development next july i believe.
@@whoisharo4689 Yeah, I have been on the fence since she said that, but she didn't seem to be sarcastic about it. It was more like "don't you worry about it, it's going to be fine!". I didn't realize it was the whole block. I just assumed that and the liquor store. Yikes!
That Whole Area just is Drenched in History, ( and other things😉) and really is a very interesting place to walk around just as you portrayed here . Thanks for posting this one and possibly documenting it before it’s just another “ Piece of history lost to the greed of developers “ here in California. I was fortunate enough to see The Crue play at the “ Whiskey “ Wasaaaay back in my youth and never in my life had I witnessed so many bare topped women on guy’s shoulders and panties being thrown up onto the stage as that night progressed. Sigh…… thanks for a trip down memory lane Adam & Daphne…😊👍
Oh man! This was a great trip down memory lane! I grew up in Hollywood and frequented some of these bars. The one place you did not mention was Gazzarri’s. Like the other iconic places, they hosted artist who’d become major names in the music industry. Another place that was some miles away from the strip, but was frequented by rockers was The Hollywood Tropicana, a baby oil/mud wrestling joint. The last time I was there, Bill Gazzarri came with two gorgeous girls as escorts and all the guys from Poison. Thanks for this post! 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
If I could go back in time I would quit school my freshman year of high school 1984, and moved out to LA sunset strip area, joined a band, and lived the life!😎🤘🤘
Excellent work, guys. I was a teen in the early eighties living in rural north Alabama and was fascinated by anything from "southern California". It seemed like a world away from what we experienced. That particular time was a time like no other......and never will be again. Great seeing these actual icons that we all shared together reminding us again of our youth and that shaped the pop culture at that time. Nice!
Hey Adam, Sounds like you had a great last day in California! I really liked Tower Records. They had so much cool stuff. Sad to have see have seem them go. Thanks again Adam!
Well I guess I’m even happier now that I bought the soundboard from the Viper room. A piece of history that ran so many incredible bands through it. Sad that it’s going to go, along with tower records as they are both such iconic locations.
@Kevin Elliot Yeah. I’m guessing it was the one before the one they have or had now. Because obviously they have been running on something up until this point. I got it about a year or so ago.
@@MeltWithU Did you make a documentary on it? From what I’ve heard about the Viper Room, it seems like that place and Sound City could might possibly be 2nd cousins. 😉 Honestly, I’m kidding. And think it’s pretty cool that you got to get that from there.
I went to one of Janis Joplins last concert at Melodyland in Anahiem.Mix up melodyland and carousel.Saw Johnny Rivers at The Whiskey A Go Go.Actually the traffic was better due to gas prices til this weekend.

The Bullwinkle statue was not “in storage for 10 years.” It was removed (per the Jay Ward family) on 7/22/2013 and restored by Ricardo Scozzari of Burbank Furniture Restoration. The restored statue was unveiled and on display at the Beverly Hills Paley Center in October 2014 for a Jay Ward exhibit. Then it was displayed at the WeHo City Hall in 2016. It was set to be permanently installed on Holloway in early 2020 but Covid delayed it until the following year.
I will admit a lot of the research I found was hearsay and some say it was Reservoir Dogs he wrote at Barney’s Beanery. There is a quote where Tarantino referenced the privacy of the pole on account of the support beam at the end of the booth. Regardless, there is enough evidence to support Quentin doing some of his writing at this location.
Very cool video. I love entertainment history, movies, tv, music etc... Sad that the Viper Room is being torn down. I had hoped to see it one day. Ah, well, such is life I suppose. Daphne is a font of rock n roll history. Good to see her again in your videos.
From 1996 to 1999 I would frequently go to watch System of a Down play at the Viper room, The Coconut Teaszer, and at Whiskey a go go. Those were literally the best years of my life.
Fun Facts: Def Leopard played the Whiskey there last week. Doors got signed at the Whiskey too. *Fun Facts The crazy paint job on the Roxy was from artist Kii Arens who does tons of Hollywood bowl art. Gibby Haynes of the buthole surfers was jamming with Al Jourgenson of Ministry in the River Phoenix band that night.
I'm sure people know, but need to mention that The Comedy Store used to be Ciro's where all the stars of the 40s and 50s used to hangout (Sinatra, Bogart, Desi & Lucy, etc.). I think the Byrds might have gotten their start there as well.
Shame Capital records has gone and maybe the Viper room soon. Another part of our history disappears, once gone it’s gone. Great vid today with Daphne along. Excellent series this trip on the west coast, thoroughly enjoyed each one. 🇦🇺🇦🇺👍👍
Another amazing video. FYI, The Tribute store at Universal Orlando now has merch and memorabilia to Back To The Future, your favorite movie. Also they have merch and memorabilia to Jaws and ET.
You know Valley Girl was Nicholas Cages first movie as Nicholas Cage. And fast times at ridgemont high which he did prior, his name was Coppola. Pauly Shore is the owner of the comedy store. He inherited it from his mother Mitzi Shore. Mentioning the building from Lethal weapon, when you return to Orlando, the building they blew up in LW 3 was actually in Orlando.
Even though this is sad news, I enjoyed the video. It made me think how lucky I was to have experienced the music scene in NY and LA in the 1980's and 1990's! I never made it to the Viper Room, but I did get to the Whiskey A Go Go and spent a fair amount of time on Sunset at Tower Records and in Venice Beach when it was still fun!
The Viper Room was fantastic when it first opened as it wasn’t always crowded but it would be filled with musicians from different genres. We used to go buy airplane bottles and sneak them into the Whisky from that liquor store. It was cheaper then buying drinks for our lot of starving musicians Great vlog Woo and Daphne
I'm a huge fan of your videos. Looks like the correction of the real Location of the House of Blues was stated (across the street from the Comedy Store. ) I was the House of Blues in house D.J. for two years and got to D.J. the New Year's Eve 2000! Also, something not too many people mention (gnr super fans will know this) Across the street from the liquor store (next to the viper room) used to be Tower Video which Axel Rose was the manager of that store. AND I got to hang with Slash once in Tower Records one night while him and his girlfriend were shopping. That Tower records was the first record store I ever went to.My mother would take us their once a month to buy one record or two 45's!
Awww! I'm so sorry to hear it's your last day in California. I was hoping to see a collab with BLAB, but...🤷🏾♀️ If anything is up between you guys, I hope y'all can patch things up soon. I miss seeing and hearing Katie laugh at you. Safe travels!
Absolutely love yours Adam The Woo and Natalie’s appreciation and love that you do In your videos and tours took a trip to LA California back in 2020 and saw The Whiskey and some other famous rock and historical sites but a lot I haven’t seen that you showed and learned about. So really thank you both love it!! Always look forward to your videos and will keep looking forward to them!!
Thanks for the stroll down the Sunset Strip! That Barney's Beanery location was also used on film in one of Val Kilmer's funny movies, "Real Genius". Bye Daphne! Hope we see you sooner rather than later! Safe travels, Adam and Big. 🚗🛴
Wow what a memory lane stroll for me. I lived on the street that runs right into Rock N Roll Ralph’s. Thanks. Barney’s Beanery history, (I witness it) Slash pulled up front in a black Jeep, came inside slammed a couple of shots, got back in his Jeep and an hour or so later was on TV with Michael Jackson for the (?) award show. I loved Barney’s. Thanks AdamNd Daphne.
you should check out the pig and whistle , built in the 1920s on Hollywood blvd , a tiny stage hidden in the back room and a history of the original Shirley Temple drink because shirley temple used to frequent that place when was little
Very sad to report the The Pig and Whistle is now gone too. Even sadder, the new owner ripped out the gorgeous interior wood panels and trashed them. It’s now a Mexican restaurant.
Thank you for showing this portion of the strip as I never made it to that area 25 yrs ago when I flew to LA .. love that Daphne explained the deets on each area. It's sad that the viper room is going away.. am shocked it hasn't been deemed a historical landmark yet for music history and wild not seeing that memorial they once had for River outside of it. . And since everything that was in Valley Girl is pretty much erased from existence... (is my all time fave movie besides Backdraft) always wanted to see its location and all that u shown.. thank you girlie and Adam.. btw got the stickers.. much appreciated
Originally attributed to the demise of the la venue the garden of allahah but Joni allegedly stated it was about a place in Hawaii. Rog. Pacific sunset records.
The Garden of Allah was torn down long before Joni's comnercial lament and replaced, at least nowdays, by a small mall. It was kind of trashy at best. If it hadn't been built by Rudoloh Valentino's widow Allie Nazimova nobody would have cared. The Vipet Room could hardly ever have been described as "Paradise". More like the nest of serpents it was named after. River Phoenix wasn't the only person who died there.
Great video! I live here in LA and this video makes me feel like a tourist in my own hometown...well done! Note: The State used to be a place called Red Rock. HOB is further down across from The Comedy Club.
I'm so bummed they are tearing down the Viper Room. I have been going there since it was the Central. Got to meet Johnny Depp and Christopher Walken when they bought the place. Was there the night before River Phoenix died. They are tearing down history everywhere. I have retreated to the desert and soon the woods. LA is dying.
@@traceytrotter9934 good for you! Enjoy every moment while in nature. I go to parks and take walks through the nature often. I even enjoy my time while sitting on the balcony, I have a very beautiful view. I wish you well, lots of joy, love and peace ♥️♥️♥️
14:35 This was NOT the House of Blues. It used to be the *Red Rock* which I practically lived in during the 90s. The House of Blues is further east on Sunset/Oliver across from The Comedy Store. I missed that place too, especially upstairs in the 'Foundation Room'.
This video brings back so many memories. So much has changed there. Mels Drive in was actually Ben Frank’s and it was open 24/7. I remember thinking Ben Frank’s had the best chicken salad sandwich! A lot of musical history from that place as well. Is “Rock N Roll Denny’s” still there on Sunset? It’s kind of sad to see and hear that so many places are being torn down/closed. I saw quite a few films in the cinarama dome. I remember going to “The Derby” in Los Feliz many, many times too. Sad to see so many of those places gone forever. I’m glad you’re documenting some of these places Mr.Woo.
I don't understand why they seem to attach artists that have nothing to do with rock and roll in rock and roll things like this. Smokey Robinson? Stevie Wonder? Last I heard they were trying to put Dolly Parton in the rock and roll hall of fame. I just don't get it. There are so many worthy actual rock and roll bands that should be acknowledged
Adam great video I live for music that’s why this was so wonderful and I must say I saw a group at the Whisky a Go Go once in my life the group is called Fates Warning and before the show I ate at the Rainbow Room and got a picture of the Lenny statue so it was great seeing that area again also it will be sad to see the Viper Room go because of the history surrounding that place also the theater you showed that was boarded up which I’ve walked by many times and I also thought of you when you did videos by that theater so sad that great places come to an end but I must say I really enjoyed exploring that are with you and Daphne it really made me feel good also when you mentioned that you were leaving SoCal I actually got a little teary eyed because it has been so much fun traveling around SoCal with you and to be perfectly honest with you I wish you didn’t have to leave but I know you have to what you gotta do so have a safe trip back out on the road and I look forward to seeing what you have up your sleeve now with that being said peace ☮️ love ❤️ and happiness to you Adam and Daphne and I’ll see you on the next vlog adventure wherever it takes you also please be safe out there peace ☮️ out ✌️
I never been to Southern California. I’m a huge heavy metal music fan I would love to visit the rock based landmarks such as The Rainbow Bar and Grill, Whiskey Go Go and the former apartment of Mötley Crüe. RIP to Tower Records. More likely to visit that area sometime next year once the airline flights are officially booked. From Minneapolis, Minnesota. 🙏🏾
@@rabfallon4507 They're remodeling the Viper Room with a new property but as for Tower Records it looks like it's gone for good and turning into a NEW Supreme store. End of an era indeed.
I'm glad you enjoyed your stay in California and, spent time with friends. I enjoyed watching you. I'm sure you wouldn't miss the traffic or the gas prices there. I can't wait to see where you go next. Have safe travels.
Loved the Vlog. Worked in Hollywood and L.A. from '84 through '89 and lived on Sycamore from '88-'89. Worked in music studios and clubs, all that you visited, and more. Moved back to San Diego in "90. Adam, you need to come to visit San Diego sometime, Anyway thanks for the walk down memory lane.
Inside the Rainbow Bar & Grill is part of a wall dedicated to the Hollywood Vampires. This was started in the early 1970's which started out as a softball team of musicians and quickly turned into a drinking group that resided at the Rainbow. The original member were Alice Cooper, Micky Dolenz, Keith Moon and Harry Nilsson, John Lennon and others would join when in town as would other musicians. Alice Cooper took the name and started the Hollywood Vampires band in 2015. So much Rock music history on Sunset and it's sad to see these venues being torn down for apartments and condo's. I remember when living in the LA area, exploring Sunset was like a mecca of rock music with so many many bands getting their start in those venues and where one could rub elbows with these stars. Ah, the memories
@@IMeMineWho Yes, indeed, Ringo and John Lennon were honorary members when they were in Hollywood. The sign in the Rainbow lists all original and original honorary members. Lots of Rock History there.
Love your videos, but special thanks for this video, been wanting you to cover the sunset strip since when you lived in CA. Glad you finally made it and captured some of the landmarks before their demolition.
I make my living as a bass player and it’s a bummer I didn’t get to see some of the iconic places on the strip before they are torn down. Thanks for the chance to live vicariously through you. I’ll get out to California one day. All the Cali vids have been so fun. Thank you.
Looking forward to tomorrow's vlog, but have to say it was so awesome to have you back in California for a short bit! Looking forward to more back roads and baseball games!!! 🌼
When in U.K Lemmy could also always be seen at the St Moritz' club, that he owned in London. Playing on the slot machine. Saw him there in 1989. Adorned with white cowboy boots.
Just wanted to drop a big thanks! Your LA and Hollywood videos helped my family have An amazing time with our visit. If helped us create a list of places to visit and info to talk to our kids about. As always you rock and thank you.
Great video Adam! I used to live around the block from the sam ash, back then sam ash was across the street from where it is now next to the church on martel, they shared the same parking lot😂. Sad to see so many iconic locations closed down, I'm glad that i got to see Prometheus at the cinerama dome. Is the sunset grill still there next to the guitar center?
While I’m sad to see it go, I’ve always been amazed that the Tower Records storefront lasted as long as it did. Tower Records has been gone for what, 20+ years? You’d think that location would be prime property for development.
It was 1140 north Clarke for Crue. We lived above them. There were no cops, its all bs. It was a laid back very cool building in 82. Dont believe the bs. Vince, Nikki and Tommy lived there.. bottom corner
Great stuff Adam. Just like our favorite Disney rides that disappear (ie Great Movie Ride) so do local landmarks. Even in my small Cape Cod village of Hyannis Mass my favorite hangout bar of 40 years ago Guido Murphys was turned into condos. But our memories of these places keep them alive. Come up to Fenway Park with the Rays!!! ⚾️
The Viper Room became too identified with River Phoenix's death and it stigmatized it. I've seen buildings where a person who did something horrible lived and they eventually knock it down but with River Phoenix it is not that he did something wrong but the tragedy of his passing overwhelmed the property.
Kitty-corner to the Viper, at 8833 Sunset (big glass and steel building next to the old Tower lot), is the remodeled building where Elvis Presley was engaged in preliminary rehearsals for the 1968 TV special that was simply titled, ELVIS (the black leather comeback performance). Also, there are two Mel's Drive-In restaurants here in San Francisco.
So funny that the video with the most views on this EPIC California trip was the Desolate Areas video. All of them were enjoyable. Looking forward to some more Tampa Bay Rays road games.
Loving your tours of California, my home-state. Some of the spots I’ve been, some not. So much iconic, legendary places we have. Sad about this icon being torn down! Talk about a spot for legends… so many stories from The Viper Room. As for Tower Records-my sis’s boyfriend worked at that tower records he met Mark Hamill! Who is like his idol lol. The Rock, Kobe Bryant, Leo, Snoop Dogg-to name a few! No place like SoCal❤️
I am so confused.... Isn't her name Natalie but now Adam introduces her as Daphne? Did she change her name and I missed it? Oh well it is fun when they are together but just wondering :). Fun video - Daphne sure knows a lot about the fun history with the area!
I have committed twice asking hou come her name is different now(?) !! He has not gotten back with me!! Maybe because of the hair color change! Who knows!!
Jeez, Sam Ash and Guitar Center right next to each other. That's pretty much the case where I love as well. Rock on good people! Thanks again Adam. Hope a other joint video can happen with Scott, Michael, and Sean sometime.
It's appalling whats happening with all the new construction. Everything is being torn down. There's no sense of preservation at all. Anywhere they can stick a hotel, they will do it. It's slowly turning into Las Vegas without the gambling.
House of Blues was across from the Comedy Store. Now torn down. State used to be a restaurant called the Old World. The Whiskey is now a play to pay venue.
Brings back great memories! I was born and raised in Simi Valley and use to frequent the strip as a teenager. Ate dinner many times at many of those clubs on the strip. Shady places over there though I never went alone! Seen my first concert over there Bonjovi/skid row! Those were the good ol days! I also met Motley crue and white lion white shark Ozzy and Lita and many others during a show put on called “party ninjas, children of the knight” in the 80’s. It was a charity concert I had back stage passes cause my Cousin roadied for them.
Do tell! Love all of those bands! Did you get to meet Mike Tramp? And talk to him? I just saw a doc on them the other day and listening to him sing, heaven! Then, when he spoke…. It was just a shock and I was not expecting that. Lol
its sad that they are tearing down all the cool stuff in Hollywood to build expensive apartments .. and why would u wanna pay for an expensive apartment when all the cool stuff is gone ? .... idiotic .. RIP Hollywood
Crazy decision to allow iconic LA locations to be destroyed. Doesn't LA have heritage laws? These were great tourists attractions! Many studio backlots were destroyed much to the regret of studio owners given the popularity of Universal Studios. Iconic locations generate tourism dollars
Sadly, all the big wigs in CA want is more money. They don't care about the history. Big money is all that CA is about. I was born and raised here and imo it's disgusting.
There is an LA conservatory group however they often lose to big money. They lost their fight to save the Ambassador Hotel where Robert Kennedy was killed. The original Brown Derby was lost. Many many important buildings have been lost.
The only heritage our local politicians value is the denomination of the bills they are given. Just look at who the LA City Council and mayor are. And who composes the Board of Supervisors. That goes for most of the leaders of the local communities. Most of Africa and Latin America probably has more honest and capable leadership than we currently do. If you want to understand current LA check out an old John Carpenter movie like "Escape From New York" which we eerily resemble.
LA is famous for letting iconic buildings get destroyed. Googie architecture orignated in LA and they were everywhere in neighborhoods that were developed in the 50s. Most of them have been torn down and only a few remain.

Absolutely. He spends the time to make it interesting.
@@iworkout6912 They got so many facts wrong. Soooo many.
Enjoyed the walk about on Sunset Strip with you and Daphne. Farewell for now Daphne, safe travels Adam!
That’s great . Such an iconic spot
HE DID YEP, I WATCHED IT TO WERE RIVER SOPOSS TO TAKE HIS OVER DOSE IN THE BATHROOM.
But the saddest of all besides the death of River Phoenix (I was there a day before, and the day after he died)
Is the closing of the Cinerama Dome where I've been to a bunch of premieres, and always sat across from to watch the Hollywood Christmas Lane Parade every year from 1982-2007
That makes me tear up. A landmark above all others.
Thanks for the tour. I don't think I will ever go to LA. So this was good enough for me .
CORRECTION, ADAM! THE HOUSE OF BLUES WAS DIRECTLY ACROSS THE STREET FROM THE COMEDY STORE. They tore down the building and built an apartment complex
Lol. I just wrote that as well as a bunch of other stuff that was incorrect. They have the love of the Strip but their knowledge needs to be checked. Unfortunately its not even an apt complex now or Id want to move there, but an office bldg..the very opposite of the HOB.
Loved this. There's a series on Hulu called The Dark Side of The 90's- episode 2 is all about The Viper Room. Safe travels!
His name is Russ Solomon, founder of Tower Records. Check out the documentary "All Things Must Pass", which is available on RUclips.
You have to just love how Joey Ramone put his hand print upside down!
Lived in Venice for a summer in 2006, worked at Pacific Design center down from Sunset, remember buying Gnarls Barkley album at Tower. So much history around there
Love seeing the history of the LA rock scene. Daphne is a fount of knowledge and an absolute sweetheart of a person.
I went into the Viper Room a few months ago and I was talking to someone on the staff about being so bummed it was being torn down. She told me not to believe it and that it was a big PR Stunt. I hope she’s right!
Ohh let's hope not
Tower records gone . Viper room will go to
@@domingomercado8589 I’m sure it will at some point. Everything does eventually.

If I could go back in time I would quit school my freshman year of high school 1984, and moved out to LA sunset strip area, joined a band, and lived the life!😎🤘🤘
History gone that makes me sad. Adam Thank You for sharing.
Honestly, I’m kidding.

I know. See my comment. I love they love the Strip but they need someone who was there before they state it as fact!
Another excellent blog, Adam. Worth noting…Quentin Tarantino wrote the majority of Pulp Fiction at a booth in Barney’s Beanery.
That’s awesome I never knew that
@@jlassh That's because Pulp Fiction was written in the 3 month he lived in Amsterdam
You can do some “Colombo-like research” to find supporting evidence of this claim.

Fun Facts:
Def Leopard played the Whiskey there last week. Doors got signed at the Whiskey too.

The crazy paint job on the Roxy was from artist Kii Arens who does tons of Hollywood bowl art.
Gibby Haynes of the buthole surfers was jamming with Al Jourgenson of Ministry in the River Phoenix band that night.
I loved the Viper Room, a lot of good memories there, good shows and father/son bonding
I wonder if we met! Lol.

It's sad that the viper room is going away.. am shocked it hasn't been deemed a historical landmark yet for music history and wild not seeing that memorial they once had for River outside of it. . With all that demolition I could not stop thinking "they paved paradise and put up a parking lot"!!
Exactly !

Ringo Starr was also a Hollywood Vampyre. Dont forget Ritchie.

@@brianmccarthy5557 or the sequel “Escape from LA” for that matter
LA is famous for letting iconic buildings get destroyed. Googie architecture orignated in LA and they were everywhere in neighborhoods that were developed in the 50s. Most of them have been torn down and only a few remain.
This was great! what a fantastic walking tour of these great locations thanks
