Mykal (Michael) was one of the original fellows before he left for Broadway. You can see him in VPs Just Sing (make sure the captions are on and you can see what he has been in). I just don't get tired of this - Geoff is a magnificent villain in Scar. Layne (the warthog) just keeps it rolling - love his fearboxing face when Geoff is in his face. The 3 tenor hyenas are just a hoot.

Geoff was particularly leonine in this. I could swear he had fangs on the bit about ‘teeth bared’. I suppose that would be virtual fangs? One thing I didn’t notice until after a few rewatches was just how long he was holding those low notes, while the others were moving through the upper harmonies. I was distracted by all the action (vocal & physical)
He did hold it out for a quite a long time. Very impressive for the bass register! There was actually a continuity error I caught with the visuals of his singing, but I decided to cut it out of the reaction because it wasn't necessary.
Mykal (pronounced "Michael") was an OG member of the group, back when they were For The Love and then 4:2:Five. He was their Tenor 1 (Earl Elkins Jr. at the time was their Tenor 2) and has spent the last 25 years doing Broadway and other marvelous musical things. The BTS for this was lovely -- it was great to see him reunite with Geoff and Layne after all that time. It's also fantastic to see him seamlessly mesh with Eli and Cesar on stage even though this is the first time they've met!

Mykal left in 2002 for a very successful Broadway career and is still going strong. Besides "Just Sing" this is the first video Mykal has collaborated with Voiceplay. When he was a member he was tenor 1. Earl was tenor 2. When Mykal left Earl became tenor 1.

I definitely caught when Geoff roared, but didn't pay close attention to the captions during that part. Considering the vocal percussion was intense this one, it makes sense that Layne arranged it 😂 Loved it!
You are one of very few reactors who had the captions on and caught that 'meouw' when Geoff roared. We can happily announce that there are plans for at least one more video where we get to hear Mykal more. This video is so heavily Scar dominated, he didn't get to shine as much as the featured guest usually does. The boys filmed more with him, while they had him in town. Something to look forward to.
I actually laughed at the sound of Geoff's roar and the reactions from the others. But that is comedic how they would add "meow" in the captions at that very moment 😂
Poor Geoff! Being a (Disney) villain is so out of character for him, but he does it so, so well. Did you read the subtitles watching this? They have some great little jokes in them. This is definitely a favorite now. I recommend the version by Peter Hollens too. Ever since I saw Peter's years ago, I've wanted to see VoicePlay do it, and as much as I ADORE Peter, I'm afraid VP takes the top spot. One thing I did prefer about Peter's though, is the "I never thought Hyenas essential" lines. Peyton Parrish does them too. But! OOoooh, my man, when you see VP's Halloween one it will BLOW. YOUR. MIND! If there were ever a song I would say could NOT be covered so well, it would be that one. I recommend you watch it sitting down, with a pillow under your chin, because your jaw will DROP like a drawbridge!💙
