What about the whistle in 1-3 you hold down on the white block for a few seconds, fall behind the “stage props” go behind the curtain and there is the 1st whistle in the game.
Mario 3 was the first time me and my mates got mega pumped about a game release. After seeing it on The Wizard and waiting ages for it to actually come out in the UK, we were obsessed with every snippet, every screenshot in a magazine. The great thing, it exceeded all our dreams. What an incredible game.
Funny point about sitcoms and people handling the controllers in a crazy way. Just like how no one can come home from the grocery store without a baguette sticking out of the bag.
Best Mario game of all time imo. It was my first game I ever played. I got my NES for Christmas when I was 5 years old. Got the OG SMB and 3. And for some reason I played 3 first and I couldn't put it down.
This is the first time I'm watching a Knockback instead of just listening to the audio on Spotify. I gotta say I looked for knockback as a yt channel previously and couldn't find it so I thought it just wasn't on YT. I wasn't aware that Last Stand Media was kind of the umbrella of all of this being that I discovered Knockback on its own. Then recently on an episode I heard you guys comparing how knockback does on YT so I was confused and checked again to finally find this. I wonder if this happens to other ppl and that's why Knockback isn't as big on here compared to just audio listens. Anyways, I love the pod. Started listening about a month ago and I've listened to maybe 10 episodes at this point. Keep up the great work.
Colin often talks about certain types of media being comfort food. Super Mario Bros. 3 is exactly that! I can literally play the game in my mind during certain levels. I was 8 years old when this game was released and it is forever engrained in my mind. As far as I’m concerned it’s the last time for me where gaming was in its purest form. It’s a perfect work of art. I’m replaying this today after watching this podcast. Hey shout out to both of you on this one! Great….Great content!!! Keep it up fellas!!!!!
Nintendo sorta still does what Dagan was saying in the beginning, it's one of their biggest complaints by fans is that especially Miyamoto doesn't want to visit older IPs like Starfox or F zero because he wants to have a gimmick or innovation if you will, like motion controls, Wii U pad, and now the portable hybrid with Switch, they still have that weird new experiment momentum but I agree that child like wonder to their innovations has been gone for a while at least for me lol.
Probably the best NES game (my 3rd favorite behind mega man 2 and contra), and imo the 2nd best Mario game behind world. It's as close to perfect as you can get in a platformer.
It’s interesting Colin didn’t feel the magic with Mario Odyssey, but did with the Galaxy games. I had the opposite experience where Galaxy fell flat for me. I recognize it’s an amazing game, and thought I had moved on since I couldn’t stand the Wii. I even bought Twilight Princess on GC cause I refused to waggle the Wiimote. Then the Switch came around which brought me back to Nintendo. Odyssey clicked for me in a way that I thought wouldn’t happen again with another Mario title. Wonder if Colin or I will switch places with the next iteration?
Colin, I would love to see you do an episode where you revisit your original thoughts and reactions to the Switch back in 2017 (and your general thoughts towards Nintendo itself at the time) and compare that to how you feel about it now and how the Switch ended up doing in the market. I would love to hear Dagan's thoughts on this as well. It would be an interesting analysis I think.
Absolutely played the shit outta this game. Loved discovering all the secrets from friends growing up and it just added to the replay value of the game. The idea, design, and the way they had different attacks and mechanics was so amazing at the time. The Koopalings/kids were named after musicians was something I found out later and it blew my mind lol: Ludwig: Ludwig von beethoven Iggy: iggy pop Lemmy: lemme kilmister Love that their designs also reflect the genre/persona
I have never beaten this game, but it was the first game I ever played. In fact, it is the only NES game I ever experienced. My siblings used the game as a test to see if I would take an interest in games or even bother holding a controller when I was 4. I agree that the cartridge art is exceptional; I have old drawings where I tried to recreate it from seeing the cart on a shelf from our collection.
Did Colin say that he texted Nick Scarpino from Kinda Funny recently?! Or was he referencing the past when he was still a part of KF? I didn’t know that Colin kept in touch with anyone from KF. It always seemed like Nick would have been the person most sympathetic towards Colin during that whole fiasco.
@@iceman333933 I don’t know for sure, but I’m certain Nick was the most sympathetic to Colin’s exit from KF and Colin has spoken with him since the split.
Here for the dope content. And Dagans dad joke ofcourse 😅 even if it sucks lol. And yea Colin's right about the Wart dinosaur not being in smash bros. Fucken livid when they brought clown shoes Sorra at the end. Modern Nintendo can be lame sometimes.
Nothing beats Mario's cold murderous eyes in Super Mario Bros 3.
Agreed
😂
I've said it before, and I'll say it again, but having Nick on one of these Knockbacks with Dagan would be an absolute dream.
A masterpiece. The first game I ever played and it's still a treat any time I play it today.
What about the whistle in 1-3 you hold down on the white block for a few seconds, fall behind the “stage props” go behind the curtain and there is the 1st whistle in the game.
The best video game ever made full stop.
Colin's Concord rant makes me want a Knockback on The West Wing. It's one of the best shows of all time.

It took me 30+ years to just now realize that it makes no sense that Mario's racoon suit allows him to fly😅
I remember the wait in Australia for this game.
I’m 45 now
The wait for release was a nightmare.
Especially after seeing it in gaming magazines.
I remember playing this in the Disneyland arcade before it made the console debut, it was the coolest thing ever!
Love it when you boys talk old school games. Hope we get to hear your take on the original castlevania trilogy one day.
Super Moriarty Bros. 3

@@zetterburger I fell asleep playing that one.

He seemed the most torn up during the final goodbye at KF so I'm not too shocked
