hey i have a question? I am moving into a new house and i use spectrum internet gig. they provided me a modem and router to rent which i hated doing so i am looking into buying my own modem (which i already did) i bought the CM3000 and give back the modem and router Spectrum gave me. i also just bought the orbi 970. so my question is do i need a laptop in order to connect my modem to my ISP in order to use multiple devises at once. then once the modem it connected to my ISP I unplug my ethernet cable from my laptop, unplug the power cord in the modem, wait and then plug the ethernet cable back in the modem and into the main orbi router then do these steps.
I don't think I fully understand what you having going on. Here is basic network setup: ISP > Modem > Router or ISP > Modem/Router Combo or ISP > Router In my instance I have fiber to the house so literally there is a wall biscuit you can connect a patch cord right from the ISP to a router (WAN port) (no modem needed)
