You can convert your graphical (STL, OBJ, etc.) data into editable solid or surface models with Scanto3d, which is an add-on that is not used much because it is not known much.
We did not do a very detailed study to ensure that the video does not take long. However, you can turn your models into surface or solid models by doing more detailed studies using the commands and features we show in the example.

humm when I open stl files this way they show the mesh on the left but its always blank on the right when I select it.. using solidworks 2021.. doesn't matter what stl file I open.. always see nothing..
Sorry, I didn't fully understand your question. Are the commands in the right-click menu not appearing?
the scanto3d command are all greyed out except one of them.. also thescanto3d tab is not showing up.. seems its some sort of windows update solidowrks installation bug from what I researched over last hour.... I;m not going to spend any more time time on it as I have other ways to convert stl to solid and I really don't want to mess with my solidworks installation at the moment.... but thank you very much for the tutorial.. seems a good solution when its working as it should@@NonCADKeys
Yes, it is really difficult to deal with STL data in Solidworks. It takes time and patience, and of course a good computer. Thank you for your nice comment and kindness. If you would like help on the subject, you can also send a picture or video from my Instagram account.
It's possible with Solidworks 2017?
Yes, SW2017 version has this feature. If your SW package is Standard, you may not be able to use this feature.

Yeah, now do it with an actual 3D scan that is 300mb and takes 5 minutes just to load…
Working with mesh bodies is difficult and can take a long time. It requires patience and a powerful computer.
