I was so lucky to fly several times between London Heathrow and JFK on the Boeing 747 400 with Air India almost 20 years ago now sadly a route that doesn't exist any more it was a very cheap price and I can confirm that Air India does live up to its slogan Your Palace in the Sky 🇮🇳✈️
Ah yes, I remember those days when that AI 744 was running LHR-JFK. I never took it despite flying the route dozens of times. I was always chasing AA status in those days so I couldn't afford to stray to another carrier! 😁
Hospitality seems to be part of Indian culture, although I have never been to India I have taken college courses on Southern Asia. I do know when I need to call about travel etc. and get connected to an Indian call center they are always overly courteous. You are also right on, when you say the worst part of traveling today is, getting through the airport and onto the airplane! You do it over and over yet I noticed it gets to you too! Thanks -Jim
Wonderful video Gabe , i have to be honest, that new livery wasn't " love on first time" but now it's the clean classic like with Finnair and like it very much ❤️, hopefully air India will stays that powerful proud airline 🙏
Love the upbeat music score during the cabin intro. Buttermilk as a welcome drink? How strange is that! First thing comes to my mind is buttermilk is used to marinate chicken for deep frying! I got my first SSSS on my boarding pass for a flight from FRA-SFO last week, my first in 20 years flying to the US. You got 2 delicious meals on a 90 min flight. You'd be lucky to get 2 bags of pretzels on a flight of that length in Domestic First on US carriers. Thanks for sharing your trip. One more thing, I like the way you pronounce Hyderabad, we Brits 🇬🇧 pronounce it with a silent E. "Hi-dra-bad"
Butter milk used to marinate chicken and the butter milk used as a welcome drink are both different. Try it sometimes its a very good digestion aid, delicious, and protein packed!
The aircraft camera is simply the best feature for us aviation fans. I'll be flying to Delhi this week on one of these lovely A350-900s for the first time. Looking forward to add another aircraft to my fly list.
Oh yeah it's really the best. Can you believe some airlines choose not to install it? Then again, it costs millions as an add-on option from Airbus, so I guess I can't blame them.
Enjoying your videos Gabe! 🎉 Looking forward to more of your trips especially with Air India. Exciting times for Air India and Indian aviation. 🎉 Subscribed. 😊
Hi Gabe, understand the delays from Security but unfortunately our neighbourhood isnt' really the best & we have to be careful. The new Digiyatri system has been great. You would love flying out from Bengaluru. From Departure to Gate in barely 10 mins. I'm not joking! Plus, T2 isn't that bad either ;)
What I said in the last video about the livery is totally redeemed here! The A350 looks amazing! Curious why they operate it on short hauls like this, is it crew familiarization? A capacity demand? Perhaps just touring the jet 🤔
Yeah this would be a mix of familiarization and showing it off around India, letting people see and experience the new plane. It definitely worked in terms of getting people excited locally about what's coming!
In India new planes usually have to fly a few domestic routes before they’re allowed to go on international flights. This rule, set by the DGCA (India’s aviation authority), makes sure the aircraft is properly tested and the crew is comfortable flying it. These short local trips help spot any issues and give everyone a chance to get used to the plane.
Hi there Gabriel...iam sure its just a matter of time AI gets to do a makeover on its hard product and soft product image globally....i have not yet tried the A350 AI ...this is quite an encouraging report.. thanks bro!!!
Can't wait to see this one fly intercontinental! Sweet ride. I'm kind of curious how the alternate universe experience would have been on aeroflot. It seems they truly had an upgrade in mind 🤔
Yeah what a shame, it would have been really cool to fly Aeroflot's 350 (or any of their fleet really) before they went full rogue state on us. Lots of great Russian flying adventures to be had too. Sad!
Curious, Gabe, because while I've done a fair amount of flying including 13 roundtrip L.A. to London, only once in first class (United LHR>LAX), never in business. So, the question. Business class entree served in aluminum tray. Is that okay? Unusual? Thanks...enjoyed the A350.
For me it depends a lot on the route - because this was a quick domestic flight it didn't bother me. On long-haul it would be unusual and would look cheap. But for something like this, I thought it was acceptable. Thanks for watching!
Except for the items from bags to be removed, I've stopped taking physical boarding passes for the last 2yrs almost.. DigiYatra allows you to use facial recognition to scan across the airport areas.
Hi Gabe again beautiful review to the core , are you ok in getting the curry sauce / or butter chicken in a foil plate !!! , just wondering though food already looks very tasty and delicious 😋
Hehe thanks, a lot of people have noticed the foil packaging on the meal. To be honest it didn't bother me at all because it was a quick domestic flight. On long-haul I'd say they should really be plating it properly, but here, no big deal in my opinion!
why do they serve in foil and gravy almost running .. they need to dehydrate the gravy an serve it in a proper serving bowl.. almost Indian railway standard.
I flew on A350 twice on Singapore Airlines Singapore to Kolkata and Singapore to Brisbane- very disappointed with both. Leg room was less than Boeing 737-8 and this new gliding tech before landing where the cabin is pin drop silent because the plane basically glides on very low power to conserve fuel causes major ear pressure issue for me which I never experienced before OR with other aircraft.
Hmm that's odd, and you're the first person I've ever heard disappointed by an A350. According to Singapore Airlines the 737-8 has two inches less legroom than A350 in economy. I have heard the rear rows of the 350 might have less room but still wouldn't be less than 30 inches. As for the ear pressure issues, that has nothing to do with the type of approach an aircraft does. A continuous descent approach, which is what I think you're talking about here, won't have any discernible effect on pressure compared to any other type of approach. If anything the A350, with its lower cabin altitude at cruise, should be easier on the ears as the total pressure change from cruise altitude to landing is less.
5:42 it is interesting how airport security can differ by location. I wonder if there is a method to the madness at airports in India, and possibly other countries ✈️ Do they train security longer and intending to be the highest standard? Or is it the opposite with less training, but being armed police/military it gaps the difference because they are well trained as law enforcement? 🤔 it seems like they are good at keeping the airport safe. I actually get a feeling that they have many methods and tactics. Basically making every trip through security a different experience. The idea that if the security is the same routine, a bad person could create a plan around it. I guess organized chaos? 😅Noel is right
Good points and questions raised, I'm not sure myself! But I'd tend to think it's more in the organized chaos territory, except with quite high levels of stringency because of regional threats specific to India. Same reason behind their requirement of ID and boarding pass to even enter the terminal. I'm just glad that's not the norm around the world because it makes air travel a lot more time-consuming and stressful.
India has high standards of security because of friendly neighbors. Also, TSA is even more strict and takes longer very chaotic compared to Indian security checks. Personal experience at American airports(especially MCO, JFK, and EWR). Also, TSA racially profiles you, again personal experience. In India, that is not done, everyone is treated equally and with dignity during security checks!
5:42 You should fly in the US sometime. TSA is absolute worse! and takes minimum 30-45 mins! I have had this personal experience when I was in the US. I understand security is not something to be taken lightly, but India does have a tight security because of the airport terror attack records.
I’ve flown hundreds of times in the US and never seen anything like what I got in India. But yes US security can be an awful experience too. However if you get Precheck it’s a breeze. One of my favorite places to do security because I have that.
The condition of old beaten up air crafts on Delhi-Toronto sector being operated by Air India is terrible. Around 70% of entertainment systems not working, old worn out & torn seats, planes falling apart. Air India is giving itself & it's partner "Singapore Airlines" a Bad name by continuing to operate such aircrafts. They charge for all the services but do not provide basic services like functional entertainment systems. The reason that they are going to change to newer aircrafts soon does not give them an excuse to operate such, old & beaten up aircrafts. They should be refunding money to people for the inconvenience caused.
Gawd knows when/if the Indian airports are going to get those scanners where you don't need to unpack everything. Diseconomies of scale, too many people doing the same job at security no incentive to be efficient.

Not sure what change you expected this soon! Most of the global supply chain delays have significant impact on these changes. Additionally, bringing about change in Human Resources is time taking and there has to be sufficient new blood in the system to weed out old ones.. so, it's just a matter of time.. oh yeah, at the end of the day, keeping things intact is also the responsibility of the traveller.
@shashanksrs I just want them to clean their aircraft. I don't think that's a huge time consuming problem. Hire a deep cleaning crew and get to it. Have you flown them? I have and everything is filthy. The rest of the product is actually pretty good but sitting in filth is not OK.
