Chance said Tim was the laugh at the end. He also said he played the guitar and he also was recorded playing the mandolin. That was the only instruments used. So maybe the Mandolin is what you're hearing. This is a EPIC song and video

@@bessarion1771He hasn't even left yet. You have no idea how the next member is going to sound. But more than that, Austin has the right to do what he needs to do for his own mental health and happiness. A true fan wouldn't want him homesick, heartsick, and depressed just for their entertainment. He's given us 12 years of his life, and now his priorities have changed.
I had a weird impression not long ago that one of the HF members was ill, so when it was announced that Austin was leaving, I had a momentary panic that he had cancer or something. The fact that everyone was healthy was such a relief that Austin leaving for his own mental health was good news in comparison.

@@bessarion1771 "I don't like it" is a far cry from "I will NEVER forgive" him for "destroying" something when you have no idea that anything has even been destroyed. I'm pretty sure most Fries are at least a little sad and apprehensive about the new sound, but deciding now -- months before Austin has even left -- that he's unforgivably destroyed Home Free's sound is, well, weird, though I'm sure there were people just as hysterical about Chris leaving.
@@lrfcowper The current sound will be destroyed, because voices are unique. If you have a perfect home or a car, swapping one major part WILL change it. I think it's foolish to move on the moment you achieve a relative success. I wish him luck, but will not listen to his individual compositions.
Sound design? Interesting. I never considered that. That's the type of stuff I love about this channel. I'm a retired Librarian, so obviously I am a detail nerd and now I have one more tidbit to explore for videos. I also have a tendency to re-watch my favorite films so now I can watch my cherished movies and appreciate even more all the background work that brought the experience to a high level. I love it. Adam learned to imitate castanets for the Shanty Medley. Yes, it's him.
Castanets sound different than a tambourine and would be more difficult to replicate. He would have to mimick the sound of between approx 10 to 20 pairs of castanets at the same time to make a tambourine sound. Plus there can be different pitched jingles. So just because he can do castanets doesn't mean he can do a tambourine. I'm not saying he didn't, but we don't know unless they said so. They used a background track when they performed live for Ubisoft so we don't know what was prerecorded.
I believe they only used a guitar and a mandoline and only because Ubisoft didn't want it completely acapella
Chance said it was vocal percussion, including the tambourine, until the last chorus when they brought in real drums
This could be a movie. The guys looked so good and authentic. One of my favorites, I'm always singing it and I could watch each video over and over again.

There is mandolin and guitar and possibly tambourine (not sure if Adam is doing that or not). There is a short live video HF did for the Ubisoft crowd and Austin is playing the mandolin and Chance has his guitar. Adam is doing drums. Maybe Ubisoft wanted the instruments? Don’t know. Love this song! What a banger Chance wrote. Fun video, the boys look great as pirates. 🥰😍

This isn't a music video - it's a mini-movie with terrific acting, singing, harmonies, Adam's beatboxing & a good story! (A story is something most movies now lack). Chance wrote the song and it's terrific. The only instruments used are guitar & mandolin. If you haven't heard Austin's latest original "I'll Go First" have tissues at hand .. .
Watch "9-5 beatboxing breakdown", "Joy to the World Hosannah" or "Mayday Live" - they all can beatbox (not to Adam's extent) but they all do.
I second the request for I'll Go First! Listen to the words carefully & as Teresa said have tissue handy! Amberly helped write the third verse of this song.

This is a different project for them, yes. I don't think it was required for this to be completely a cappella, and so here we are. And I LOVE that they branched out. It's mostly a cappella, but yeah, that is a real tambourine. You do see the guitar, but they didn't show the tambourine, but I think if there are instruments, they at least usually will show something to let you know it's not a cappella. This has been a very different thing for them.
ASIDE - I would love to try and figure out a monster sound btw. Sounds amazing what you did.
ANOTHER ASIDE -- I will tell you what you've reacted to -- because I'm not a fan of J2 or anything - sooooo you have reacted to the Sea Shanty Medley (100% totally different song than this one) .... and then you also reacted to both the live and lyric version of Skull and Bones (this same song). Ya’ll are missing the story line of the video production where the young lass takes down the call for employment that she takes down. Then she starts out swabbing the deck, manning the sails, then manning the steering wheel and ultimately becoming the Captain of the ship all decked out. Wonderful story line that would have been unexpected during that time line of 1700’s. 🏴☠️❣️

All of them play instruments. There is a video of Adam Rupp playing trumpet live with them & one of Rupp playing I think bass guitar with is brother & his mother & sister was playing piano & singing. On Tim’s channel you will sometimes see him playing piano. Austin I believe plays piano & mandolin. On Chance’s channel you can see him playing guitar. Most of voice play can play instruments too. ❤happy fryday ❤
I believe Adam Rupp also plays drums and bass guitar perhaps more. He sort of picked up all kinds of instruments filling in with the worship band at his church whenever they needed him. The bass guitar - I am pretty sure I saw video somewhere of him playing bass for one of the Backyard Bash events.
Somewhere I saw / heard him say he plays trumpet, guitar, bass, piano, keyboards, drums, and anything else they (the worship team) needed. On the So Long Dixie album, he's credited with playing synths on Save the World. I've also seen a video his wife Ericha put on IG of him playing around with Cerise in Ericha's studio/office (she's a music therapist) and he picks up a banjo -- something he's never played -- and within a couple minutes he's got it figured out. Just a phenomenal gift for music.

Wasn't that great! We've been waiting for this official video by Home Free for awhile now. It felt like I was watching a movie. Home free is so talented & they can do any genre of music. Chance loves sea shanties & he wrote this song for the game "Skull & Bones". His deeper voice sounded great for this song. And of course all the background harmonies of the guys, Tim's bass & Adam's fabulous vocal percussion.

The deserved video for this awesome song . Of course the video of the game and the live performance was great too, but this video is beyond amazing. Phenomenal how it looks. I believe Ubisoft didn’t want it to be completely A Capella in the live Austin was playing the mandolin Chance was playing the guitar and Adam beatboxing but never saw a tambourine.

They have videos with Maggie Baugh, to The Moon And Back and with Brooke Eden, Delta Dawn
If they are using an instrument they will have it right out in the open. You noticed the gituar if they were using a tamberine it would be where you can see it. Like if they use a looper in concert it is out in the open and Tim might just say they are using one and why.
For the song they did use some instruments along with Adam's beatboxing.
To my knowledge the only instruments used in this song are a guitar and a mandolin. Chance plays the guitar and Austin plays the mandolin. The laugh at the end is Tim...Chance said so.
I think this was a production by Ubisoft for the game. Therefore there is a lot of production on this video and the storyline is probably part of the game play.

Aaarrrrrggghhhh, maties! Ye be a listening to me faverite buccaneers! If yer not knowing, ye might be interested in these bits. At times the king, be in need of tars. (While at sea sailors seldom cut their hair. Instead, they'd make a "man bun" of their hair then use "tar" to keep itin place. That's why they be called "tars". Even the royal navy seamen did this. To keep from soiling their uniforms with tar, they had a square of cloth on the back of the uniform. If you look at the US Navy seamans "dress whites" you will still see this square piece of material.
Another thing, to ensure the king had a sufficient supply of sailors, the royal navy would send out "impressing gangs." Their job was to obtain "new men" from any source available. One tactic used was a coin in the bottom of a mug of ale. An unknown man might be at a pub ordering a drink. The head of the impressing gang would, unbeknownst to the drinker, drop a silver coin in the man's drink. When he finished, saw the coin, and took it out, the impressing and would grab him, as by taking the coin, he had accepted the "king's pay". That's why there are mugs with glass bottoms. The smart drinker, before drinking, would hold it up to see if there was a coin in it. If so he refused the drink.
