Let me help you understand. Basically Luke started out as a good kid with dreams but without the self confidence to make them a reality. What obi wan did in a new hope is help him believe in himself (and this is what “the Force” represents symbolically) to destroy the death star and save the rebellion. Then in Empire, it’s shown that he still has doubts, he’s still impatient; he still has flaws. Yoda tries to teach him to believe “in the Force” (ie to slow down, have patience, believe in himself, even allow his friends to die to save what they fight for) but Luke won’t have it. He recklessly goes off to face Vader long before he has even started to become ready, and this is his greatest failure. He is defeated and in learning Vader is his father his defeat is made greater: his choices have put him on the easy path to the dark side and he will become like his father. I don't know i kinda like revenge of the sith the music was brilliant and it has some genuinely heart wrenching scenes like the scene where Anakin burns and the order 66 scene as well the lightsaber combat for the most part was cool
There's one thing I'll give to the Red Letter Media critic: the light saber duels were loaded with an emotional charge while those of the prequels are super choreographed but boring...
The Ewok story was originally supposed to be about Wookiees. It was going to be about Chewie returning to kashyyk with Han and Leia not only to destroy the deathstar shield but to free his enslaved people. That would have been epic but Lucas decided he would rather sell more toys.
The whole Luke-Vader-Emperor sequence IS the best thing in the entire franchise. Also the opening sequence in Jabba's palace is great too. Good way to showcase how cool Goth Catholic Priest Luke now is :) Lots of beautifully shot atmospheric scenes in many places.
While this is the least good out of the Original Trilogy, I gotta confess: The space battle is still the best in all eight movies (counting Rogue One).
This might be the introduction to Star Wars nostalgia talking, but Return of the Jedi is my favorite. It hosts my favorite lightsaber battle, The characters making their way into Jabba's palace still captivates me, and the Death/Cremation of Anikin has stuck with me through the years
Say what you will about this movie, the assault on the death star scenes are amazing. I'll never forget watching it as a kid for the first time, truly thinking the rebels were going to lose.... "Tie Fighters coming in..." still gives me goosebumps...
This is still my second favorite Star Wars movie. If you didn't tear up when that one Ewok got shot and his buddy was shaking him then you need to check your pulse.
Joseph Wolfson. Consider that and the fact that in the end of the movie they are dancing around bonfires, banging stormtrooper helmets and you start to realize what might have happened to the stormtroopers they beat.
I know that, I'm referring to LATER. I'm pretty sure Han and Leia wouldn't have approved of them eating people, and would've conveyed that to 3PO who they considered their "God". They likely just burned all the bodies.
Except not accurate or honest in this case since half the stuff they complain about are the shit Lucas added 20 years later to his special shit editions.
Reportedly *someone* had a lifesize model made of her in that costume... correct in all details... which Fisher understandably wasn't happy about since metal doesn't cling to the body like fabric. Take a cold shower, Mr L!
Women seem to not like competition from other women( Let alone a younger woman copying & stealing their shine). Men competing for them is an entirely different story though.
Yes, but that’s precisely what’s wrong with Jedi. A good film would see him struggling to redeem himself for all the dumb shit he pulled in empire, rather than just making him a badass from the start.
Star Wars fan logic: "Return of the Jedi is weak because it has Ewoks in it, but the special edition is even weaker because it replaced the Ewok end song with something more fitting." Erm... What?
Truth. Excluding deaths caused by spaceships, Ewoks killed more Imperials in the last 20 minutes of ROTJ than all the rebels combined could manage in 3 films. With sticks, rope, and rocks. That's why you never saw Vader helping defend the shield generator on Endor. He wasn't about to mess with them.
I don't necessarily disagree that ROTJ could be considered "Meh". Just think how much better the movie could have been if those were Wookies instead of Ewoks.. hgggnn But T3 and SM3 are absolute piles of garbage and should not be compared.
I get that having Wookies show up in ROTJ as primitive tribesman wouldn't have made much sense after having Chewbacca as the co-pilot and mechanic of a spaceship in the previous movies, but they could've at least made the Ewoks not look like teddy bears. It should be entirely possible to have a race of aliens be 3 to 4 feet tall and still have them look like they could actually fight.
What do you think the Empire would be more prepared for - an entire planet of 7 feet tall bear people who have an interstellar reputation for being able to dismember people with their bare hands AND incredibly powerful laser weapons OR a race of tiny teddy people with sticks and stones? I personally maintain that, merchandising grab aside, the Ewoks are a better fit to the story than the Wookies, thematically and logically - the Empire and Emperor would have had to be complete morons (thus undercutting the conflict) to overlook the Wookies.
Spiderman 3 really wasn't THAT bad. If you actually compare it side-by-side with 1 and 2, they have ALL THE SAME FLAWS. The only difference is 3 tried too hard to shoehorn villains in (and they screwed up Venom).
I honestly think Revenge of The Sith was better. The action was more exciting and I found the story more compelling. Just because Return of The Jedi was part of the original trilogy it doesn't mean it's above reproach. Also, I'll take Darth Vader's 'NOOOOOO' over retroactive incest any day.
ROTJ isn't anywhere close to being a bad film, but it had some pretty questionable creative choices. Pretty much all of the problems with the prequels were present in ROTJ, though the action and the characters certainly saved it from being the full-blown dumpster fire it could have potentially been.
Let's be fair, the space Battle of Endor was AWESOME, and the model work STILL holds up today. Also, the Luke vs. Vader duel is the best lightsaber fight in the entire franchise. PERIOD.
Battle of Endor, sure. Best lightsaber duel? Dude, come on. The only thing SW purists concede about the prequel trilogy is how awesome the duels were. Obi-wan, Qui-gon and Darth Maul on Phantom Menace. THAT's a period :D
Curtis Donihoo I honestly believe it's popular to hate on Return of the Jedi just because of its more lighthearted tone. Of course it wasn't going to be dark like Empire Strikes Back. I think the nerds that hate it are just desperate to validate their own maturity. It comes across as really pathetic.
Can we just respect that this movie started the whole three facet battle that has become the staple of all Star Wars and did it exceptionally well? That in and of itself was admirable aaa a stand-alone accomplishment.
No way is this in the same category as Spider-Man 3. ROTJ is a good, fun movie! What the heck is wrong with the Luke/Vader family saga? That's what it's always been about!
Dead Bricks Because ROTJ had the family drama. When ESB started it there were presumably so many options or paths they could make and fans were excited but when it turned out to be "generic" then fans were upset.
STAR WARS only gets praised because it was a something of a novelty in its day. The set design, the photography by Gil Taylor, the pre-CGI visual effects... all beautiful. Take a way the eye candy, and it's a weak story with plodded pacing and overall shoddy direction. RETURN OF THE JEDI was just... weak. The quality really increased with EMPIRE STRIKES BACK. The scale was bigger and the story was gripping. Irving Kershner's direction was a clear improvement, as well (which is a testament to Lucas' skills as a director). Darth Vader was never meant to be Luke's father, but was re-written as such to provide extra drama. Which is why RETURN OF THE JEDI takes the blame for making the trilogy (and prequels/sequels, consequently) a family drama, because all of a sudden Leia became Luke's sister. (Luke's secret sister was supposed to be a new character; but Lucas & Company chose Leia instead because of the lack of chemistry she had with Luke, as intended.) The whole thing went full circle for (arguably) the worse.
"Jedi" didn't leave much of an impression. In fact, the Star Wars franchise has become overwrought. I can't say for everyone. If you liked it, you liked it. Whatever makes you sleep at night, man.
I like the new ending song a lot more. I also like the young Anakin Force ghost. Maybe the prequels didn't do the character justice, but the Clone Wars series made me love the character and it was nice to see him appear like he was in his prime. It emphasized the redemption theme for me.
ROTJ was always my favourite. The scene on the barge when Luke jumps off the plank, grabs it then jumps up while R2 hurls the lightsaber through the air and Luke catches it is probably one of my all-time favourite movie scenes.
Oh for fucks sake. Yes this movie is flawed. But it also showed us Luke as a badass, the largest space battle at the time and the first capital ship on capital ship action, and one of the best sequences in the original trilogy with Luke, Vader, and Palpatine. Yes TESB had the most shocking scene, but That final confrontation was the most impactful, and a perfect way to end the franchise. Probably my favorite Star Wars movie
Yeah it had what was needed, like Revenge of the Sith had Obiwan chop Annikin to pieces (after which he caught fire) for him to finally become Vader - oh and killing more children on the way over to the dark side, that helped top off the dross that were the prequels
rgderen88 the point of the video series is to be honest and sarcastic. In my personal opinion, you can’t be honest if you neglect the most important scene in the movie
"there's no way the mighty empire would struggle against a smaller, poorly armed force" Have these people ever heard of something called "the rebellion"?
That green stripper lady's name is oola. She is TWI'LEK Dancer who was born on Ryloth. And she danced for Jabba or he would kill her. I have a character encyclopedia and looked it up. I am not a nerd
Love this movie so much. Jabba's palace, the space battle & the emperor's throne room confrontation are some of the best things to ever come out of Star Wars
Batman was the time to get to my place to go get some stuff for you guys to come over for dinner tonight I have to go to the movies with my friends for dinner tonight so we have dinner and we have to dinner dinner and we can get together and dinner dinner and dinner with him
The Gnarly Narwhal they said in their Santa Clause honest trailer commentary that it was suppose to be picked but decided to go with the Santa Clause instead and release the Grinch next year in time for the new one.
Empire may be the best, but Jedi was my favorite growing up. The space battle and the duel between Luke and Vader were among the best in the franchise, and the former STILL holds up against the CGI from the later films.
The third act is simply amazing. Luke is a deeper character than ever, Vader a more engaging character than ever, and I have sisters, so the revelation that Leia was Luke's sister meant a lot to me. Also, the Emperor was an awesome villain (and he got even better in Episodes I-III), and Victory Celebration is freaking amazing.

This is a good summation. It also provided a FANTASTIC ending to the Skywalker story (until Disney screwed it up.)
The harmonica solo killed me.
Michael Lester killed Vader too
Say what you will about this movie, the assault on the death star scenes are amazing. I'll never forget watching it as a kid for the first time, truly thinking the rebels were going to lose.... "Tie Fighters coming in..." still gives me goosebumps...
Jarrod Higgins yeah before we realized that the main characters in any story have plot armor.
I find your lack of Admiral Ackbar jokes disturbing
This is still my second favorite Star Wars movie. If you didn't tear up when that one Ewok got shot and his buddy was shaking him then you need to check your pulse.
Hugh Heavens that might be the saddest death in the movie.
Maaaan... fk that Ewok!! :p
What about the death of the rancor? His owner was heart-broken. Bloody Skywalker!
Keldor D'Antrell the guy in the leather hood gets his redemption in the Aftermath trilogy though.
Lost Empire oh, yeah, and Temmin is in those, i need to go read the third one
Don't the Ewoks try to eat the Rebels at one point?
That doesn't seem cute and friendly!
Joseph Wolfson. Consider that and the fact that in the end of the movie they are dancing around bonfires, banging stormtrooper helmets and you start to realize what might have happened to the stormtroopers they beat.
Yes. They were going to cook Han Solo for dinner.
That's a popular theory, but consider that they also befriended humans in Luke, Leia and Han, who wouldn't have approved of them eating their kind.
It's more than a theory that they were going to serve Han for dinner. It's what Threepio told them that their plans were for him.
I know that, I'm referring to LATER. I'm pretty sure Han and Leia wouldn't have approved of them eating people, and would've conveyed that to 3PO who they considered their "God". They likely just burned all the bodies.
I love how accurate these trailers are
well..... they're called Honest for a reason
average human I hate the 30 sec9nd ads the play that are unstoppable
average human ypu mispelled honest
Me too.
Except not accurate or honest in this case since half the stuff they complain about are the shit Lucas added 20 years later to his special shit editions.
Carrie did look amazing in that bikini, though
Sadly she died
Reportedly SHE chose that to show that hot women could still be powerful and worthy of respect.
Reportedly *someone* had a lifesize model made of her in that costume... correct in all details... which Fisher understandably wasn't happy about since metal doesn't cling to the body like fabric.
Take a cold shower, Mr L!
The funny thing is Carrie Fisher actually warned Daisy Ridley not to let Disney put her in a bikini
But the really ironic thing is that Fisher actually asked for a costume along those lines.
Better than having a hammerhead cat conveniently rip off only the bottom half of her shirt and leave no lasting injuries [coughattackoftheclonescough]
Women seem to not like competition from other women( Let alone a younger woman copying & stealing their shine). Men competing for them is an entirely different story though.
Really no pointing out that the Ewoks were canibals and the food at the feast was probably dead stormtroopers? For shame Honest trailers.
That doesn't make them cannibals though.
Say: "If I had a nickel for every time someone made me read a comment, I wouldn't need to work as an awesome trailer voice."
The real war section was gold.
Spoiler:
Yoda is Chewbacca's sister
You, sir/madam, have just won the internet.
WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAA...
Why am I laughing at this
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!
NOOOOOOOOooooooo.....
erikthevikingful lol
3:58 that sigh says everything that needs to be said
You have to do the greatest showman
I was just drinking when you said "harmonica solo". I almost killed my computer!
Return of the Jedi Luke is best Luke.
Hyuuga2109 until this Friday hopefully
Yes, but that’s precisely what’s wrong with Jedi.
A good film would see him struggling to redeem himself for all the dumb shit he pulled in empire, rather than just making him a badass from the start.
Star Wars fan logic:
"Return of the Jedi is weak because it has Ewoks in it, but the special edition is even weaker because it replaced the Ewok end song with something more fitting."
Erm... What?
I liked the Ewoks. They were vicious little monsters that eat people.
The new music at the end was arguably the most genuine improvement made to the original theatrical cuts.
TheValeyard92 The Ewoks are lame why shouldn't there song be too?
Just stop trying to understand the overly critical Star Wars fans. They have high expectations and their lives must be miserable.
I'm not miserable because i am not critical. Unlike these "fans" who can't stand watching material for both kids and adults, i enjoy the Ewoks.
Say: The ewoks are the best warriors in the galaxy
emmm, they are
the force was with them.
(best excuse for any ridiculous plot element)
This isn't how the force work !
Not just killed imperials but ate them as well.
Return of the jedi was and still is my favorite star wars movie and you can not change my mind
Otherwise you'll tread on me
I don't necessarily disagree that ROTJ could be considered "Meh". Just think how much better the movie could have been if those were Wookies instead of Ewoks.. hgggnn
But T3 and SM3 are absolute piles of garbage and should not be compared.
I mean according to the prequel, most of the Wookiees have been genosided by the Republic
How dare you compare ROTJ to Terminator 3 and Spider-Man 3....
I thought that was a bit overboard myself.
They were being ridiculous. ROTJ isn't even a bad film. It's really good and great and ends the trilogy perfectly
ROTJ isn't anywhere close to being a bad film, but it had some pretty questionable creative choices. Pretty much all of the problems with the prequels were present in ROTJ, though the action and the characters certainly saved it from being the full-blown dumpster fire it could have potentially been.
il100374 The rage is strong with this one...and rightfully so.
I know it's a really unorthodox fight, but I actually really enjoyed the protracted, awkward fight between Obi-Wan and Grievous. (Greivous? Grevious?)
I concede nothing. NOTHING.
DamnDamien Damn, Daimen...
Looks like somebody haven't seen the Anakin vs. Oba-wan duel in Revenge of the Sith.
Plase say this : DO IT
do it do it do it do it
You mean "dew it"?
I actually love this movie so mich
*You`re
"Every thumbnail on youtube with a hot girl"
Admiral Ackbar: "It`s a trap!"
even *B E T T E R*
I don't care what anybody says, Return of the Jedi is my all time favorite Star Wars movie!
Jared RB Garrison ditto dude
Curtis Donihoo I honestly believe it's popular to hate on Return of the Jedi just because of its more lighthearted tone. Of course it wasn't going to be dark like Empire Strikes Back. I think the nerds that hate it are just desperate to validate their own maturity. It comes across as really pathetic.
i hated all the changes except switching yub nub for victory celebration, i thought that was reasonable improvement
In the Blu-Ray version Yub Nub is removed...yet Hayden is still there...still there
YOU BASTARD!
I actually like this movie a lot. it's one of my favorite Star Wars movies.
This is funny and all, but ROTJ always has been and always will be my favorite episode. I love the Ewoks!
Fist bump, man. It's my favorite, too. (Gotta have the Yub Nub version, though :)
Tread lightly Screen Junkies. This is hallowed ground.
Jovial Jared
Is that a mothafuckin Half-Life 2 reference?!
Star Wars Holiday Special.
But do they have the high ground?
Can't tread on the Hallowed ground.
I HAVE THE HIGH GROUND!
TheRedArrowExpress, Don't try it!
Can we just respect that this movie started the whole three facet battle that has become the staple of all Star Wars and did it exceptionally well? That in and of itself was admirable aaa a stand-alone accomplishment.
Return of the Jedi may be the weakest, but it doesn't even touch Godfather III in its genuine level of awful.
Dying Meme z yin. . llspxkkcmm
Dying Meme It's the best in the series imho... With this amount of awesomeness, even Ewoks don't bother that much 😀
have you seen Troll 1 or 2?
hear hear!
GLITCHED PLAYEr That film gave me eternal enlightenment. I don't know why you think it's bad....
Say, “You were supposed to eat the sandwich not share them!”
No way is this in the same category as Spider-Man 3. ROTJ is a good, fun movie! What the heck is wrong with the Luke/Vader family saga? That's what it's always been about!
No, it wasn't. It was never planned to be a family saga until the second movie happened.
Dead Bricks Because ROTJ had the family drama. When ESB started it there were presumably so many options or paths they could make and fans were excited but when it turned out to be "generic" then fans were upset.
Grafferty he's saying it's like the Spiderman 3 of the trilogy. A severe drop in quality.
Can We Get A Kick Ass Trailer ?
Oh for fucks sake. Yes this movie is flawed. But it also showed us Luke as a badass, the largest space battle at the time and the first capital ship on capital ship action, and one of the best sequences in the original trilogy with Luke, Vader, and Palpatine. Yes TESB had the most shocking scene, but That final confrontation was the most impactful, and a perfect way to end the franchise. Probably my favorite Star Wars movie
Agreed I love the last 20 minutes, the rest is filler.. Half the movie about Han getting rescued was a waste.
You're missing the point of this entire video series.
“What do you think this is, Vietnam?”
Me- yes that’s it, you’ve uncovered the inspiration of Star Wars in a joke
"there's no way the mighty empire would struggle against a smaller, poorly armed force"
Have these people ever heard of something called "the rebellion"?
How dare you compare Return of The Jedi to Spider-Man 3!!!!!!
I like both those movies
Yeah, Spiderman 3 only had one too many villains. Unfair comparison to something that is fundamentally broken.
I managed to enjoy Spider Man 3, but it was definitely not a good movie.
"My Midi-Chlorical Romance." OK WHY DID THIS MAKE ME LOVE LUKE EVEN MORE?
The angst is strong with that one.
That green stripper lady's name is oola. She is TWI'LEK Dancer who was born on Ryloth. And she danced for Jabba or he would kill her. I have a character encyclopedia and looked it up. I am not a nerd
I didn't even need to look that up. I am a nerd.
Quotenwagnerianer
Same here, man.
Honestly, coming from a diehard SW fan (pre-disney) I was initially surprised you had to look that up :)
You own a character encyclopedia tho
Harmonica Solo!!! (I'm crying! xD)
Numbering issues!
Run, Daisy, Run!! :D
«My midi-chlorical romance» Hysterical!😅
Hanz Gruuber Can you explain it to me?
Amparo Narbona a reference to the band My chemical romance
Hanz Gruuber Ok, but, what does this have to do with 'Star Wars'?
One of the best "starring's" Screen Junkies has ever done.
Teddy Suxpin is still slaying me.
Slug life killed me
*starring
Harmonica solo 😂😂😂
i loved sunny dee Williams and parliament truckadelic
Love this movie so much. Jabba's palace, the space battle & the emperor's throne room confrontation are some of the best things to ever come out of Star Wars
The advice part had me laughing so hard that I fell back
Ahh, Return of the Jedi. The movie every fan loves to pretend to hate.
I'm not pretending - I genuinely cant stand it. Every time I watch it I turn it off halfway through because it's so bad.
Lol that's so true
I love Return of the Jedi, and I'm not ashamed to admit it.
John Schiro not me I love this movie, except those added scenes ugh so unnecessary
ROTJ is my favorite out of the Star Wars movies. I love luke's character development throughout the series
DISLIKED , Vader doesn't have eyebrows #notmyvader
I came here for Sebastian Shaw's mega Vader eyebrows and I left disappointed.
Hayden needs to be CGied into that shit
I did look stupid with eyebrows though...
Darth Vader NOOOOOOO
Darth Vader NO EDITS NO SPECAIL EDITIONS
Don't care. Still my Favourite. (Just leave out the crappy CGI band.)
Me too !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
John Sidebottom Thats the best part
>out of possibly 12
Definitely 12.
We Disney now boys, remember that.
I think you meant 30.
...+ 16 spin-offs
Killkor what
Wow i havent seen any spoilers for the last jedi. Well done guys
Batman was the time to get to my place to go get some stuff for you guys to come over for dinner tonight I have to go to the movies with my friends for dinner tonight so we have dinner and we have to dinner dinner and we can get together and dinner dinner and dinner with him
@@henrylunsford9073 What?
As a confessing Trekkie I must tell you one thing...
We don't talk about Star Trek V.
Cloud Striker exactly
Cloud Striker Star Trek V is still better then the prequel trilogy
What does God need with a starship? Why is God angry?
Iunno, that may change to either include Discovery, or just Discovery...
There was no V. It jumped from IV to VI. I don’t know what any of you are talking about.
Do an honest trailer for Jim Carrey's How the Grinch Stole Christmas
The Gnarly Narwhal God, that sucked
The Gnarly Narwhal they said in their Santa Clause honest trailer commentary that it was suppose to be picked but decided to go with the Santa Clause instead and release the Grinch next year in time for the new one.
The Gnarly Narwhal I thought you were talking about the cartoon I was like there's nothing wrong with it
ROTJ is my favourite Star Wars movie. Okay i'm going to my fallout shelter
Trust me. You're not alone.
It’s the best one! I love it 😻
The middle of the movie is basically filler
ROTS is mine youre fine
Me too!
I still like "Return of the Jedi" most of the original trilogy. Sue me.
Empire may be the best, but Jedi was my favorite growing up. The space battle and the duel between Luke and Vader were among the best in the franchise, and the former STILL holds up against the CGI from the later films.
Fine, have it your way. You will be hearing from my lawyer.
Sadly, that's not how Lawyers work.
Get him lads!
Harmonica Solo. I laughed so hard i nearly fell off the couch
KobeSte7 That was epic, agreed. XD
An old gag, but a goodie
