I used to build foundations for water towers all over the United States I work for Caldwell I worked for Pittsburgh tank and tank Builders out of Texas. After the water tower was erected and welded and painted I would come back and hook up the water line to the city put in the scada systems usually fire hydrants and such period and groom the site and plant grass seed and even put chain link fence around the site very good money in it I did it for 20 years all over the United States east of the Rocky Mountains. The one I liked the best was on the Canadian border in Montana by Glacier National Forest there were grizzly bears and moose with a bighorn sheep period and the fishing was excellent. The guys that did the welding in the painting are absolutely nuts good get into a little chair that has a 3/8 steel cable and a battery that Rhymes that guy in the little basket up and down so he can weld and paint I would never get in one of those. I did every kind of foundation from multi-legged to the Parabellum was like the one in this video and even ground storage for water and oil and gas the ring around for the tank just sits flat on the ground. How the hell did they paint the water tank before you started the roof that's unusual. I built the water tower in Pampa Texas north of Amarillo they came to paint it it was wintertime and they actually covered the whole water tower was plastic to make it work inside and had heaters to make sure the paint cured properly. I had seen other Crews of five or six people building the foundations but I work for an old man that taught me and it was just me and him and when he retired I built the foundations I was a one-man crew I made lots of money. I would show up and meet with the city or county water guy I would rent me a track excavator dig my holes pour a 12 to 18 in thick pad usually 16 by 16 or bigger sometimes or on a multi-legged tank that had up to 10 to 12 legs I would just pour a huge round footing with one in the middle and then build columns coming off of the pads usually six feet tall or maybe seven or eight sometimes only four depended on the soil and whatever the blueprint called for Iowa tie all the steel and use Simon forms to build the columns and then I would have to backfill everything and compact it. Funny multi-legged tank or Parabellum usually have a concrete vault in the Middle where the pipe would come and be a 90-degree fitting to go up into the tank and then later I would come back and hook up the city water supply usually a 18 to 24 inch ductile Steel type in the scada system which would send information to the water district of the level of water when it came on and off how much it used and so forth and usually a fire hydrant or two. I loved working and doing that I did it for 20 years made a lot of money for instance it usually would take me two weeks to 3 weeks to do all the footings and then I would come back after it was painted and hook up the water that really take about 3 or 4 days and I would make 20 to $30,000 after I paid for the excavator rental in the farms in the steel in the concrete I easily made 10 to 15 thousand a month.
