I found a listing on Amazon for an HDMI adapter that looked just like the one you got. It was to be plugged into the 11-pin MHL port that is on some Samsung devices. You're supposed to plug the phone charger into the side port to power it, the phone needs to have at least a 40% charge, and the 11 pin micro USB looks like the more typical 5 pin version.
Also, some of the later versions of Android had that feature removed. IIRC the feature was first added in ice cream sandwich which was also called android 4.0 released back in 2011. So it is possible the device you tested it on did not have that feature as the phone or tablet manufacturer may have removed it. The last tablet case looks like it might be for one of the kindle fire kids models. Although it might be a cheap knockoff of the official one that Amazon has made for their kindle fire tablets.
I have a 5 pin one of that, was just gonna say, it's an MHL adapter. Works like a charm on my phone obviously because it has MHL out (4K one at that for whatever reason). The adapter works perfect, a passive cable I got, plugged to a proper passive MHL HDMI port didn't. And it costs more than the adapter.

We have these amazon return/overstock stores that have been popping up in the US, the one I went to was just full of random crap from China with nonsensical company names.
On one of his previous videos like this, Ashens mentioned that a lot of these Chinese sellers send out junk to random or even fake addresses on purpose. It’s called brushing. It’s a way for them to fraudulently boost sales and obtain positive feedback for their clients' products on e-commerce sites. So the package will bounce back. That’s why a lot of those shops are packed with that unwanted chinese crap. Or at least that’s what I’m thinking. Could be wrong.
There's one such store 15 or so miles away from my house. The owners buy pallets of Amazon returns and fill up bins in the store. Everything is one flat price, which varies depending on the day of the week. I visited multiple times after the store first opened, but I haven't visited in over 2 years. The reason is because there's rarely anything good or useful. Just a lot of random, off-name plastic junk from China.
Great video! Glad you got *something* of value out of it. I won an auction for undelivered returns recently. Listed as 15 'returned boutique packages'- decided to make an event of it with friends over some drinks. The results were pretty underwhelming- clothes of various degrees of hideousness (a few had suspicious stains of interest) and what appeared to be a silver engagement ring. I thought I'd lucked out with that one, but a quick trip to the jeweler the next day indicated it was costume jewelry. At least the experience of opening real life loot boxes, with friends and drinks, was kinda fun.
The pink tablet case is definitely for some model of iPad, the camera placement and the divot along one of the short sides (so as not to cover the home button) give it away.
The blue case is sold in Canada as a Buddy Case. They're for kids, antimicrobial, and normally ship with a screen protector and a cleaning kit. At the regional library system where I work, we use them for our public use iPads. Edited because I can't effing type today
Thanks Ashens I have one of those keyboards (American layout is a little annoying for symbols but I got it free with a tablet case four years ago so I won't complain too much!) and you've just reminded me I needed to charge it! Third charge in four years haha!
That child proof tablet case probably isn't very good given it was returned. I like to imagine the kid immediately dropped and destroyed whatever tablet was in there before returning
It looks so bland, it almost makes me think it was rather intended for the use in a heavy-duty environment, such as an industrial facility or for outdoors work.
We have one of those blue rubber tablet cases at work because dumbasses kept dropping and breaking them. They still managed to drop it when it was sticking out the case a bit and break off the power / volume buttons.
I got my mom the pink variety of the durable tablet case because of her tendency to drop her tablets to the point of breaking them. A year on, it's worked well so far. So they're not just for children, but klutzes of every age!
In the 4th grade, I had a lime green version of that handle case for my iPad 4. I was the only kid who had a different case because the school gave us out iPads with standardized cases. I loved it at the time

Most 'returns' items sold are just crap sold at hiked up rates. If you actually want to buy return items you'll pretty much have to drop a couple hundred pounds on a returns pallet from one of like three companies that actually handle return items
Plastic petri dishes are extremely commonly used in pretty much any biological laboratory, especially for microbes but I've also used them for insects and other small organisms such as fish larvae. The plastic ones are popular because they're cheap, "disposable" and usually sterile in the packaging. Because it's often desirable to have as little contamination of other bacteria as possible if you're growing them, and because bacteria grown in petri dishes can be dangerous (ex. multiresistent) they are not typically reused for that purpose and are disposed of in biohazard waste. Although usually they're bought with some sort of substrate (usually nutrient agar) already in them, empty ones are also used in enormous quantities at biolabs, and thus this whole package is likely significantly less than £1.

i believe the gold thing is a door curtain. they are normally beaded. used for when you have a doorway and no door but want privacy.
Agreed
That’s 100% what it is. I have the exact same one but in silver
Searched for this before I made my own comment. Always knew them as either bead or string door curtains, depending
Ah good to know! I was wondering who needed fringe that long
yes it is, had something similar.
Got rid of it as it was a risk for pets.

I have this exact keyboard but in black and I bought it off eBay about four years ago. You can change the LED backlight color and intensity, and it works pretty well. I've had it connected to my Windows 10 computer and Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite. Connects and works flawlessly. Only downside is that small enter key from the US layout.
Glad to see you've updated Mentski a bit. Also glad to see he's still around, when I saw his face I had to pause and check on what's going on with him, and I caught him streaming on Twitch where he was having a wrestling match between himself and Edmund Blackadder.
Oh, is that what the random face is?
He's still about? I know his RUclips account has been quiet for a while now. Shame because I always enjoyed his videos.
Love the pre-yellowed phone case.
If you’ve got any of Chef Excellent’s bags left you should cut up a few to leave in one of the Petri dishes to see if it grows an excellent mold
There didn't seem to be any agar in there, so if the bags don't already have visible mold on them you're probably not going to end up with visible mold inside a plastic tray.
An excellent growth culture.
I was wondering if it was actually a capture card of some type
It used to work on Samsung Galaxy phones but the S5 was the last to be compatible in I think 2015, and only a few other manufacturers used them.
I never knew that was a thing. I assumed it required some app to send an encoded video stream over USB when I saw that.
8:00 "10 inch backlit keyboard" "Rose gold"
I kinda dig the Petri dishes. I would use four of them to store the little cubes representing disease outbreaks in my Pandemic board game.
Wait did you MAKE a pandemic board game, or did you buy one? I’m so curious lol
@@theconfusingwords There exists a board game named Pandemic. Made by Matt Leacock and published by Z-man Games in 2008. It's played cooperatively, players try to erradicate four deadly diseases before mankind falls. Disease outbreaks are represented by little acrylic cubes. The Petri dishes would add a certain element of dread to the whole experience. Not that that's even neccessary, as the game is BRUTAL.
@@alameachan oh that’s so cool! I love board games so had to ask. Thanks for sharing that info!
@@theconfusingwords You're welcome. :)
I'm not sure about the tablet case, but I'm fairly certain that the phone case and the tablet screen protector are for apple products. The phone case has the distinctive weird dot shaped speaker holes that always get filled with nasties, and the tablet screen protector has the circle for the home button that ipads have (had?).
Iphone 6s case
The camera hole looks small relative to the case, so my money's on the 6 Plus or 6S Plus.
@@dsgamecube Exactly as I thought. Even more evidence, it says 6P/6PS on the label of the envelope. It’s definitely for them.
It’s amazing nostalgic this video feels despite it being relatively recent. I’ve been watching you since I was in High School and I’m turning 27 next week. Oh how time has fucking flown by. Thank you for everything you’ve created G! 🙌🏽
I love the always disappointing "I will edit in the results" 🤣
8:40 OMG you got me laughing hard with the flex of that keyboard. 🤣🤣🤣
It is kinda cool to see a preview of next year's advent gifts. Nerd³ will be thrilled. Haha.
an entire advent calendar of mystery return items would be pretty evil/hilarious
Where can I get the cleaning kid?
@@bandname lol
Thanks Ashens I have one of those keyboards (American layout is a little annoying for symbols but I got it free with a tablet case four years ago so I won't complain too much!) and you've just reminded me I needed to charge it! Third charge in four years haha!
American layout is the good one though. I bought a used laptop with a Danish keyboard and _this one_ is bad for symbols.
Man, I buy Amazon returns all the time! They sell it to me as "Brand New" but a lot of times its not.
I feel like you could do a nerdy version of Ready Steady Cook with this: two teams get a bag of returns each and have to make something out of them
A Scrapheap Challenge for the 2020s?
That child proof tablet case probably isn't very good given it was returned. I like to imagine the kid immediately dropped and destroyed whatever tablet was in there before returning
Given I've bought stuff from Amazon Warehouse that hasn't even been opened, I think some people order stuff just for the fun of returning it.
It looks so bland, it almost makes me think it was rather intended for the use in a heavy-duty environment, such as an industrial facility or for outdoors work.
I have that exact one on my son's tablet. It has honestly saved it numerous times even bouncing the whole way down the stairs. Absolutely worth it.
3:22 This song never fails to crack me up. I still have no idea where it comes from, though.
It looks like to me the gold thing is a fly curtain. This one is just a bunch of strings, but they are usually beaded.
At least you're keeping the local charity shop supplied 😆
The last time Ashens made one of these returned goods videos it made my week, and he's done so again :) 10/10 content
Any day he uploads is a great day
"The flimsiest thing that ever flimmed" I love all the new sentences I learn from this channel
It’s called being British.
Not Flimmish?
We have one of those blue rubber tablet cases at work because dumbasses kept dropping and breaking them. They still managed to drop it when it was sticking out the case a bit and break off the power / volume buttons.
I bought that exact foam case for my 2 year old grandson's kindle. It works. We are all clumsy
I got my mom the pink variety of the durable tablet case because of her tendency to drop her tablets to the point of breaking them. A year on, it's worked well so far. So they're not just for children, but klutzes of every age!
Glad Ashens was able to make the train home from Dan's home in time to record this video as well.
In the 4th grade, I had a lime green version of that handle case for my iPad 4. I was the only kid who had a different case because the school gave us out iPads with standardized cases. I loved it at the time
I honestly think you'd have a better chance at finding something by dumpster diving than buying these
dumpster diving is actually quite lucrative, you just need to know where to hit what shops. Only way to find out tho is to go diving yourself or have a buddy tell you.
Got plenty of good pieces of furniture for essentially free that just needed a couple new screws.
The HDMI tv cable is for a car head-unit (one use), pc and tv also (basically wired mirroring). It connects to the HDMI input on back of head unit and the other end connects to a phone for displaying the phone on the head unit (maps etc). I think they were for use before 'mirroring' was a thing, old tech but still usable.
It's gonna be an entire pallet of POP STATIONS!
I’ve always been fond of the Silica Gel branded tablets, great purchase
Love these returned product videos.

I'll drink to that.
These return videos make me so sad. There is so much tat in the world.
When, at the start, he struggles with the gray bag. Sealed by the gods. You can almost predict how sad them items are going to be 😂
This is a fun format on the video, I kinda miss the wish random word vids though. Also that golden thingy is probably something you put on a door frame, the kind of 90s nack that was so popular to do. Otherwise i have no clue
Those petri dishes would make good water bowls for a lot of pet invertebrates since many require wide, shallow areas to drink. It's the perfect size! I'm going to have to order some now.
Cool, what kind of crawlies do you keep?
@@peterpop-off I have a bunch of tarantulas, a vinegaroon, several isopod colonies and a "beetle bin" filled with various beetles and a few dubia roaches that reached maturity before I could feed them off to my various pets. I also have a pacman frog, a leopard gecko, a painted turtle and a cat. I work from home, and taking care of them all is my main hobby. I don't think I could do it if I didn't work from home.
I use a cleaned-up Pringles can lid as a food dish for my snails. I took the lid from my nephew's Pringles years ago and it has lasted all this time.
Love these kind of videos. Love a mystery
P.s You are a Legend Ashens
12:45, I think that's a wig for you Ashens 🤣
I think that HDMI adapter needs to be powered up for it to work, hence the USB port on the side. It could also be a compatibility issue as originally thought as well.
Yeah i think cos its the adapter, ya need the converter to make it work.
I was once in a lab full of scary specimen dishes.
I was petrified.
hehe
Har-de-har-har.
DING!
04:37 That’s definitely an iPhone 6(S) case.
The 6P/6PS at the end of the product code probably indicates iPhone 6/6S.
Also the tablet case is for ipad mini
I used plastic petri dishes in my high school marine biology class. We used them for observing flatworms (planarians) and how they regrow when divided. Also, we used them to keep track of the development of fertilized sea urchin eggs!
Most 'returns' items sold are just crap sold at hiked up rates. If you actually want to buy return items you'll pretty much have to drop a couple hundred pounds on a returns pallet from one of like three companies that actually handle return items
Oh ashens please do that
7:04
2ms after removing from packaging and sequins are already on the couch, nice
Maybe I’ve had too much to drink. It’s 1.30am as this uploads and I’m thinking “ooooh random returns, should I give it a go?”
I do abstract mini paintings in the plastic Petri dishes and hang multiples together. I love them!
16:00 the "Anti-fake knott" is in the place of a camera. Maybe it's to keep the camera safe and also keep hackers from getting any information if they get control of the camera? I don't know.
Hey A brimful of Ashens is always nice 🎅 💯
Shame Ashens isnt 45
5:10 found it ironic u said that, i just started reading it about a month ago after anticipating it for over 6 months, amazing so far
I'd love to see a fashion designer use the sequence table runner and the weird gold thing into a design.
14:50 - My niece had one of those before for her old Amazon Fire Tablet 7".
i do not have this level of bravery 👀
The lack of replies and 1 like made me think this was a bot account but it's genuinely the official RUclips channel 🤯
Hello youtube
@12:30 the "golden spaghetti monster" looks like a terribly tacky looking fly curtain.
Silica gel is awesome, always save them. They've rescued loads of my electronics
I save all of them as well and put them on the floor of my gun safe. Great to keep moisture under control
I chuck them in my toolbox especially with impact tools that aren't plated.
I swear to goodness, a friend of mine was doing Customer Returns at amazon... she opens up the box, and there's literally just, a bare bladed carving knife in there that looked big enough to cut off somebody's head
Even that it saddens me to see that this is just a fraction of the stuff that people order probably from the other side of the world just to end on a landfill, at least we get to see their a minute or so fame on Ashens' channel.
That HDTV adapter, i beleive that will only work on a phone that supports usb MHL. Not a lot did.
My friend purchased an amazon return lot for $500us. He got it in... It was mostly full of garbage. Im not meaning junk, LITERAL garbage. Product wrapper,s sleeves, carboard, boxes pamphlets. It was such a let down. An the most expensive good item in it was actually just a 16G set of ddr4 ram. Nothing more... 11 gpus all glitchy or anchient and tongs of tablet cases and 5 dollar mice. But Literally half the crates weight was trash.
I do wonder what the state of Ashen's house is...like is every available bit of space taken up with action figures with melted faces, faulty electronics and chef excellence cooking gear??
15:31 This is for an Amazon Kids tablet. We have a pink one, it has certainly done its job.
Can't wait to see these in next years advent calendar
"Flimsies keyboard that ever FLIMMED!"
I love that. LMAO
Little keyboards like that can be useful. I bought one for using on my phone and tablet on occasion.
I'd like the petri dishes to mount interesting bug specimen, keyboard, the over-the-door tassle privacy screen string, the kitchen scales, and the big thick grippy lad for a tablet. I'd even like the weird sequin thing, I could harvest from it for other crafts. So if you were me, you'd have a real nice haul there!
