And since when did Lombardo, ever play with Metallica? Curious minds, wanna know?9

      1) I've been listening to Slayer since 1987. I've NEVER heard that he had any of his drum parts "enhanced in the studio". I want to see where you read this (I'll bet it's some National Enquirer level, false bullshit. Also, I've heard him play almost all the tracks off of this album FLAWLESSLY live over the last 26 years. (I've seen Slayer live about 10 or so times, with 3 of the 4 drummers that have played with them. Once with Bostaph, once with Jon Dette at Ozzfest 1996, and the rest with Lombardo).
      2) You have obviously never heard his work with Fantomas, Philm or any of his various drum master clinics. This dude can effortlessly play Jazz, Blues, Polyrhythms.... To say he only knows 2 styles is to TRULY not know what the fuck you are talking about.
      3) A simple RUclips search will tell you that Lombardo played with Metallica.... on video..... get this..... at the EXACT SAME SHOW that Jordison played at. It was a festival. Lars got sick. Type in "Battery - Lombardo". Now... listen to the whole song, the ending is paramount. He absolutely DESTROYS the end of Battery. Tell me that's not better than Jordison (of course you will because we are arguing, but you are wrong, lol). He also kills Four Horsemen afterwards....

Great video! One thing to add to the comment in the video about Joey having a good "groove or funk" sound is that before their self titled "Slipknot" album they had released an album called "Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat." and the album us an interesting mix of groove, funk, and psychedelic metal. In short Joey is well versed in numerous styles, which is rare to see and always gnarly to hear. One of the best things about Joey is he is the Tiger Woods of drumming. Tiger can conjure something out of thin air to recover from a terrible shot and be back in position A, and Joey can do the same. I saw them on this tour and watched this DVD about 30 million times and there are lots of times where he falls to pieces with his 32nd note kicking and its awful for whatever reason, but he can conjure up an extended fill on the fly to make the unwashed not notice and keep the flow of the tune going. That is something that always inspired me about Joey. When it went wrong it didn't matter as he had the all around skills and vision to correct it instantly with something new, just like Tiger.

Steve, been watching since the beginning... watched a handful of videos today and while I love all the commentary, I was a little surprised that you didn’t mention his roll technique. Joey’s classic go-to move (while not explored heavily in this song) is the 4-2 rolls. I’ve always loved that because when you learn it. It’ll make you feel faster than you are. 😜
One video I would love to see is a compilation on signature grooves/moves. Neil and the “ring the ride bell”, joeys 4-2 roll, Scott Phillips constant high hat kiss... I think we all develop that one muscle memory move and use it as a fill or groove that we just can’t get away from. Fun to hear your thoughts.

im pretty sure he is using ahead in this video. i have a pair thats from 2001 that i got from a vintage drum shop and one from 2021 and they definitely step up their game with how they feel. they are lot more light and feel hollow. i have to use them because i break so much sticks lol

Thanks, man. Love me some Joey. Guy stirs the blood for real. Talking of small people and big drumming...Senri Kawaguchi. She’s tiny but holy smoke. Awesome.

Say something bad about the drumgod, I dare you.
After seeing Joey play live for hours, not missing a beat he became god tier in my book.

I agree with you on those ahead aluminum sticks feeling terrible. I got a pair of the Lars Ulrich sticks for christmas ages ago and I believe they're why he has such a hard time playing now. They're like swinging sledgehammers that have no bounce back.

Eyeless is very famous for its drum and rightfully so, but I feel like Prosthetics is also a really awesome song on drums, it's very fast.

You should check out a drummer named Chris Turner from a band called Oceans Ate Alaska. He has some really cool drum playthrough’s of their music. In my opinion his best is for a song called “Escapist” where he really shows his dynamics
