More than 70% of the employees working in the apparel and textile industry in Sri Lanka are women and they make a significant contribution to the country’s economic growth.
The ENTERPRISE project implemented by Chrysalis and funded by the Delegation of the European Union to Sri Lanka and the Maldives, has supported the development of 41 micro and small enterprises in the Apparel and Textile industry in Badulla, Monaragala, Matale and Nuwara Eliya districts. The support included grants amounting to LKR 52 million that enabled modernization of equipment to enhance production capacity and product quality with the continuation of employment opportunities for 866 people in rural and estate communities. Woman-owned enterprises in apparel and textile industry report an average annual turnover of LKR 4.26 million and they manufacture diverse range of quality textile products targeting local and export market.
