    So far I’ve been using this for about 2 weeks and have yet had to recharge the batteries. Very nice!

    I bought my daughter a battery grip (Newmowa?) that uses TWO LP-E17 regular Canon batteries that can be hot-swapped so you don't have to invest in other battery types. That being said, I am currently looking at using NP--F970 to power both the camera and the video monitor as that is the type of battery that the monitor takes. This way, I could use a dummy battery to connect the camera to the NP-F battery and would be down to just ONE, instead of THREE different battery types. The capacity of the higher-end NP-F batteries gets close to V-Mounts and they have a range of USB, DC barrel mount, and D-Tap connectors.

    Vello makes a grip for the rp and i made the mistake of answering yes on the batt question and that caused the camera to shut down. After i figured it out it works fine.

    When you were putting it together I was looking to see how the battery door sensor thing was being depressed.

    Found the EG-E1. Made directly by canon and basically the same thing. No extra battery but extension.

    : Is the Newmowa RP battery Grip the same as the Mcoplus RP battery Grip? (Same Grip different name)?

      the Newmowa grip that I bought uses two LP-E17 batteries that can be hot-swapped. They are the same battery that the camera comes with.

    On the strength of that review I bought one. I'm very impressed with the rig plus it will accommodate flat top as well as button top 18650 batteries. The loss of an extra shutter button is not an issue for me. The extra bang for your bucks is the no brainer. Cosmetic appearance is irrelevant since I usually apply a marker pen to any logos etc.. on my camera bodies anyway.

      yeah i dont use it a lot, but on days that I know that ill be shooting a lot of photos or video I always put it on. So far seems to be working well!

    Good detailed review. I just got myself and RP and loving it! But I am exploring options for powering it for video work, since the battery doesn't last long doing video.

    Nice Video, Thx for the info. On a technical point the Amp Hour rating of the pack does not increase with the number of cells. Using 3000mAh cells its a 3AH pack, regardless of whether its one, two, three or more cells. On that basis the 18650 cells should last 3x as long as the std LP-E17 pack.

    You are a genius !! That is a definate game changer for cameras and all sorts of battery gadgets. I keep seeing these 18650 batteries poping up all over the place and I was wondering what they are for. I see guys replacing the nicad batteries in there power cordless drills and all kind of stuff. Are they made for any specific purpose or are they just a multipurpose for whatever you can make them fit in ???

    • @gregtoope
      @gregtoope  4 года назад +1

      Bryan Gill wish it was my idea and that I knew more about these batteries. But my guess is that they are probably used or can be used for many items. As long as you can get a housing for them to fit in.

    The only negative is when you send the camera for repair Canon will deny your claim because it will show you didn't use a genuine Canon battery and fried the camera! I actually got one for my M50 and it's working wonderfully. The difference is that the M50 battery door has a slider that you can put the power plug thru. The problem is that it's a hassle getting the SD card out

  • @albedo0point39

    18650 batteries are used in USB power banks, for vaping etc. so they’re pretty cheap.
    Be a bit careful with them. They can dump a ton of power out if you short them out and maybe even catch fire - so get a plastic carrier for them.

    Great review on this product and hey cheap things are just as good as expensive things. I hope your so happy with this! Will this work with the Canon 6D mark 11? I'm getting camera in early September as I'm upgrading from the Canon 700D which has impressed me. 6D mark 11 batteries don't last long when fully charged I hear. Has amazon or amazon uk got it yet? Glad you got the problem sorted and it's nice to know about it. Does it work with only Canon cameras? What about Nikon? I've got the Nikon D200 but it's not a light camera. How many photos can you take with this battery grip in one go? I'm interested!

    • @gregtoope
      @gregtoope  4 года назад +2

      Right now they only make the grip for the Canon RP, Canon M50 and I think they are making one for the Canon M6 MkII. Really the mirrorless Canon cameras that have no official grips from Canon. In regards to amount of photos. Ive taken over 1000 in RAW/Jpeg and still had lots of battery when I got home. So much more than the 300ish that I normally get out of my RP. And these grips are custom made and can only be ordered via the companies website. But they do deliver world wide (as fas as I can tell). Im hoping to get another grip from them for my M50. So that will be tested once it arrives.

    • @gregtoope
      @gregtoope  4 года назад +2

      Roman Bardoň I hope to try that one as well. But that one takes 2 standard batteries that will give my about 2800mAh, where as this can give you 6000+ mAh. Plus these batteries are much cheaper. For video work I would probably prefer this as I could shoot all day without having to change batteries. Where as I can easily go through 3 or 4 standard batteries in a day of shooting.

    • @romanbardon6419
      @romanbardon6419 4 года назад +1

      @@gregtoope thats true, but in that case, if you need long life.... you can buy any battery pack for RC models for example and plug it into camera, you dont need this BG for 100$

    This is looks 3D printed, you can tell by the surface finish. Depending on the material used, it might not be ideal for the outdoors as some of those thermoplastics are not UV resistant.
