Fellow Jackson freak here...right on! Killer axe. I have been fighting the urge to go beyond my means and impulsively purchase the black hardtail RR available at Sweetwater. I know I shouldn't, I only have two hands, but...I love guitars. I particularly love the Rhoads. I had a late 90's model ( I think?) Years ago, had SD Invader's. It was an Animal.
Oh man dude I am officially jealous of you having Jackson sending you free, badass guitars ! Lol seriously though good for you, I always thought Jacksons were badass and that one being no less ! Awesome 👍
Sick axe when you unboxed it, the first thing that came to mind was that to make it perfect, you only need to replace that knob with a tiny toggle switch, like on the Alexi Laiho guitars, and then that is exactly what you did! 🙂👍 btw EMG 18V mod wouldn't hurt.
@@bvanhoosen Just wire the second pp9 battery in series with the first. Have been using EMGs since the late 1980s. Got the tip about using 18volt on EMGs from Glen Tipton in an interview he did for a guitar magazine a very long time ago.
I’m also a Jackson junkie. Wish I had more. I do however have a model 6 Charvel in black cherry from ‘86 or 87 neck through. It’s been through hell but still rips. I also have a dinky with quilted top and a offset v as well. I want the Jeff Loomis sig 7 string.
@@bvanhoosen i don’t yet own a 7 string. I am not a fan of the Jackson head stock4/3. I prefer the OG head stock and thats why i want this 7 string in particular.
With the D-tuna - do you need to fix the Floyd to "dive only" mode for easy use, or can you use it in "floating" too without messing up the overall tuning?
I actually have a stabilizer in there as well (which I think I forgot to mention). You’d definitely want some kind of block or stabilizer if you plan to go to drop d on this one. With the neck angle being what it is, the bridge doesn’t rest completely on the guitars body.
Great video and excellent playing as usual. I should have subscribed to you a while ago but I fixed that today. I have a 2008 LTD Alexi 600 and I love it. I was wondering if you’ve played an older Alexi model and how the necks compare on this or really any Jackson Rhoads? I am not crazy about a Jackson soloist neck (although they’re great guitars) and wondered if newer Jackson compound radius guitars feel the same. I can’t always just go with what the measurements are listed as when it comes to neck feel. Thanks dude!
Thanks for watching man! Appreciate that! I haven’t played the LTD/ESP ones, but I do think the neck on the RR is a little different compared to the Soloist. The Soloist always seems a little flatter and less round imo, and the RR/KV necks have just a bit more meat to them. Ymmv, but that’s been my experience at least
Nice on the after burner mod! I wanted to do that with the 2018 Alexi Lahio Greeny I own that gain boost would be sweet man thanks Bryce hope u and yours have a good 4th up there iam n New Mexico in Northern Mountains 🎆🎶🎵🎸
Just de-solder the 2 push-pull pot lugs from the AB board and then solder two wires from the pads to 2 lugs on the mini toggle. Fairly easy and straightforward mod!
Sick!!! But did everyone run out of black, chrome or satin Floyd roses. Seems like the gold is ending up on a lot of manufacturers guitars. Hope that's not the new trend!!!!! Cheers from a diehard Jackson player!!!!!
It’s based off of the RR24 custom Alexi Laiho had back in the 90s. So it wasn’t inspired by a “new” trend by any means haha! Still see plenty of guitars with black hardware.
@@bvanhoosen i mean there is a less Extreme 6 string version. Both with and without floyd. Love the 7 string though. Unpopular opinion: love pickguards and feel they make a guitar look cooler 75% of the time
man the top-mounted floyd is a deal breaker for me. i guess it's alright if you want to slap a d tuna in there but for a purpose-built guitar like this it's a bummer
Out of all my guitars I only have the EMG in my old Zakk Wylde Les Paul which I don't use often, but when I do plug it in I am always surprised how awesome it sounds!
The 81 is a great pickup. For metal, it’s the standard in terms of active pickups. Just add an EQ to your signal chain and adjust as needed. That’s just my opinion though.
The Alexi Sig.
Yes indeed 😁
@@bvanhoosen Shame they couldn't get the guitars to him back in 02, I believe he would have stayed, everyone loves his Jacksons much more than ESP.
@@TheGreatBaronOBeefDipI know, definitely a bummer! 😭😭
😢
@@TheGreatBaronOBeefDiptrue. His yellow pin striped Jackson will forever be his unofficial sig
I got one of these and love it. I could absolutely live with it forever if it was my only guitar
It definitely covers a lot of ground for such a simple guitar
Rhythm Channel on 5150/6505 is a thing of beauty.
It really is! Such a beastly amp!
And I love Painted neck and regular headstock
Same!
Absolutely beautiful!🖤Love the inlays. Always awesome Jackson tone!
Same! Classic inlays
Right on brother been waiting on this 🎉
Hell yeah man 💪💪
I got one of these a few months ago right when they dropped, absolutely phenomenal guitars. Competes w/ my USA select series w/o question
Agreed, great guitar!
That's a good guitar. That's a Rhoads immaculate alright, bet it plays real nice and good job.
I love it!

Definitely worse things you can have than too many guitars, haha! I need to get another hard tail RR too! Such a great guitar
Congrats with the new axe, Shred Light District brother :)
Hell yeah thank you!

Awesome review! I just ordered mine, but unfortunately it is back ordered, I’m wondering just how limited a run these are.
That’s a good question! Hopefully they get more in stock soon!

I’ll see if I can do the 18v mod! Definitely room in the cavity for it. But yeah, that was my first thought too! Needs a mini toggle haha

Have you played any of the ESP/LTD/Edwards Alexi models and if so how do they compare to the Jackson concept?
I have not played any of those unfortunately!

If it had a recessed Floyd, it would be perfect
The original Alexi Stone guitar was top mounted as well
i got that and i sent it back... . very good guitar but the neck is way too thin for me, anyway that was a very well made axe
I think it’s pretty medium in terms of a Jackson neck profile. I have some thinner necks and some thicker ones
Comme la Alexi e2 ripped est trop chère je vais finir par la prendre elle
Nice!!
It's a twenty four (frets), not two four.
Potato, potato. Plus “twenty four” has one more syllable, and I’m all about efficiency. Why say more word when less word work?

I spend 2bands on an axe..
Thang betta crank up n drive😳🤦... Hav a chainsaw attached... Or spit brass w a large muzzle blast😂
I will never understand why people say the EMG 81 is the worst pickup ever made. Slayer and Metallica both used them and tons of other guitarists.
It’s one of my favorite pickups! I think this is just an old forum opinion that people started repeating without actually using it.
