Vortex is the most underrated coaster I've ever been on. I had never heard anything about it before I had gone to the park. But after my visit to the park, Vortex is my 2nd favorite coaster in the park and is also in my top 20. Probably one of if not the most violent and intense coasters I've ever been on.
Vortex is really surprising. It's not a huge drop, and its deceiving because its down a mountain so you don't feel very high, but you get a very unexpected amount of speed right off the start. The swings are also a bit intimidating. You're 55 degrees to the right, and you can see a turn in the total opposite direction so you know its coming.
Rumour has it this thing is getting completely refurbished in the coming seasons, they also just repainted the trains so I doubt this thing is going anywhere anytime soon :)
I have gotten great rides on Vortex, Bat, and Ninja. It's a tough call for me, but Vortex might be my favorite. On one Yukon Striker ride, in the front, we were diving as Vortex was going through that helix. Awesome visual! Vortex is easily my # 4 coaster at the park.
Vortex is just a masterpiece of an Arrow Dynamics suspended coaster. I've ridden this ride many times since 2009, and let me say, it's still a ride that I can't miss when I come here. Easily destroys Iron Dragon, Ninja, and The Bat. I feel like this is the most forceful one that is still remaining. Now if Eagle's Fortress at Everland were still operating, that would still be the best Arrow suspended coaster still operating, but Vortex would still be near the top even with that one still in operation. As much as the Arrow suspended coaster is amazing, I can't deny that there is a reason why more weren't built, despite it being successful after XLR-8 and Big Bad Wolf. I think it has to do with the structure not being able to support such heavy trains that will swing around a lot, even after Arrow learned to bank the turns on the ride to decrease structural stress. Factor in faster ones, like Vortex, The Bat, and Eagle's Fortress, it is evident that Arrow could have built stronger supports and maybe build stronger track as well.
I remember on Expedition Theme Park's video, he said that Vampire at Chessington had to be renovated by Vekoma in 2002 because of the structural issues.
I haven't been to Wonderland since I was a teenager, but Vortex was a lot of fun there -- arguably the best coaster in the park in 2000. I'm sure it's just as fun now. Here's hoping it has a long life left in it!
With how popular this ride is at Canada's Wonderland, S&S still able to provide some of the parts, plus the repainting and retheming of the trains, and rumours of a good refurbishment, I think Vortex will definitely be able to have a good long life. It has already lived 32 years, and it's just as good as ever :)
canadas wonderland is my home park and i just rode vortex yesterday and i can confirm it is a very solid ride. im not tall enough to clear the over the shoulder restraints but even so i got zero headbanging the entire ride. it is very forceful, and i found it to feature more positive Gs than any of the b&m coasters in the park. the only thing is that it has no airtime but swinging around like that is always so fun.
Vortex was revolutionary when it opened, couldn’t believe the ride incorporated the space as well as it did, a fun ride if you sit in back for the last swing!!! That said, the front is a great view!
I don't think I was able to ride this way back when I visited the park but The Bat is at my home park and I consider it underappreciated. I don't think there's any question that the two are the best of the four remaining in North America. Considering Vortex seems to mean much more to its park, it will likely outlast The Bat.
Vortex is not going anywhere as they are building another coaster around it. They added a seventh car on Vortex thinking it would go faster. It actually slowed the speed so the seventh car only lasted for one season. Vortex goes over Wonder Mountain's Guaradian, over Thunder Run, over under and through Yukon Striker, and in 2025, Vortex will be going over under and around our new launch coaster which is going to blast out the top of Wonder Mountain and possibly over, under and through the middle of Vortex.
Vortex is not going anywhere. They have already built 2 coasters over, under and around this coaster with another coaster being added, over, under and around it for 2025. Plus just last year they completely painted the entire track and did some preventative welding. Not going anywhere.
My family and I just rode this on Friday. We boarded expecting an “Iron Dragon” like ride and walked off pleasantly surprised. A lot more power than others we’ve ridden!
Awesome insightful review! A quick correction though: I rode the Vortex multiple times this past weekend, and there were no seat belts in any of its cars. Just the torso restraint. Thanks 🙂

The line for this ride daily at the park speaks volumes. People wait 30-60min for this ride that opened way back in 1991..... the setting over the water and off the mountain is epic, the ride is fast non stop to the break area. I only wish it was longer.

As this may not have the woods setting like Bat, it may not be as good of a night ride but the setting like the cool helix around Yukon Strikers drop is really cool.

@@CanobieCoaster Maybe they recently removed it Ig
it tracks very well so It's very smooth and unfortunately it doesn't have airtime which is ridiculous cause it should have airtime
Suspended coasters usually don't have airtime.
2:42 no seatbelt on vortex
Sorry, I thought there were secondary ones on the harness.
Did you like Dragon Fyre more than Vortex?
No
What do you think about:
Vortex at Canada's Wonderland
Bizarro at Six Flags Great Adventure
Bat at Kings Island
Smiler at Alton Towers
Vortex at Kings Island
Goudurix at Parc Asterix
Aftershock at Silverwood Theme Park
Batman the Ride at Six Flags Magic Mountain
Patriot at California's Great America
Colossus at Thorpe Park
Carolina Cyclone at Carowinds
Corkscrew at Cedar Point
Boomerang at Worlds of Fun
MP Xpress at Movie Park Germany
They range from bad (MP Xpress) to good.
Ninja at Magic Mountain
I much prefer Vortex.
Hey canobie coaster you know I love vortex it's my favorite roller coaster at Canada's Wonderland and I think it's the best roller coaster I've ever been on
Wow!
Vortex isn’t the best coaster at wonderland but it is by far my favourite! Arrow knocked it out of the park with this coaster!
It's a great one.
I heard that the Defunct BBW Big Bad Wolf at Busch Gardens Williamsburg en Eagle Fortress at Everland in Korea was the best Arrow Suspended Coasters ever created. I don't know a lot about Hayabusa, but it was the tallest Arrow Suspended Coaster.
I never got to ride them unfortunately
And Vampire at Chesingtons is still around
@@ArrowThrillsBig Bad Wolf was amazing!
Vortex always been best Suspended…thing flies
Have u rode Vampire at Chesingtons world of Adventure ???
@@ArrowThrills I actually have and it’s slow compared to Vortex …this was before new trains…..Eagles Fortress that was one I would have liked to try …and Original Bat
@@shawnokeefe1580 yeah too bad the Original Bat and Vortex had to go.
Sure does.
There is no seat belt on this ride, just the shoulder restraint.
Ah ok, thanks for clarifying.
Vortex definitely has a similar reputation to the b&ms
How so?
There are not very many of these left.
Unfortunately.
I would be so sad if they removed this ride. Best in the park in my opinion. It’s just so fast!
Sounds like they're planning to refurbish it.
@@CanobieCoaster Really? That’s good news.
NOT THE STANDUP
Nope
Although not as good I still prefer vampire in England
I much prefer this one.
I want to go to Canadas Wonderland soooo bad. Blahhh
It's excellent.
Bat is better at night
That's another great night ride at Kings Island.
