So easy to know when sam’s not happy and satisfied, just can’t lie about it.
Yeah right, he's the bigger hypocrite ever
I felt sorry for ferrari when he was tired and in a bad mood . This was a half hearted effort, and Ferrari should reconsider inviting him to events like this . Very unprofessional.
Sam is wrong! This car is INCREDIBLE!
Good timing with your 360 Sam! Have you seen the challenge stradale that’s coming up soon on collecting cars?
Sam, surely the point of this car is that it's NOT a track-mad looney thing? No Scuderia shields, no roll cages, no 4 point harness or racing seats. It's designed for high-end buyers who don't want to pretend they're in the latest F1 race while they're on the way to the office. Holding the lack of excitement against a car that's deliberately had its excitement dialed back is like criticising a classic camel overcoat for not being a lime green ski jacket.
You're totally right and I think I said multiple times that the car is fantastic and does exactly what Ferrari said it would/should do... it just didn't excite me personally. I'm just sharing my personal opinion and experience as I always do :)
I would like to think that dialing back the excitement level on a Ferrari should still leave the driver with a sense of excitement..... after all its still a Ferrari. I'm sure Enzo would turn in his grave if he thought his company would create an adequately exiting sports car.
Totally agree with cheshirered.
Would question why you drove it in first place Sam your mind seemed already made up.
I think the problem is you didn’t stop for coffee. That would have reduced the stress.
I can’t believe you didn’t get a coffee Sam
sam is quickly becomes my fav car youtuber and im not mad. cant wait for the ytg cars and coffee!!
I still think Ferrari should build an analog special of the Roma coupe. Manual trans, aggressive passive dampers, analog (style) gauges…I’d take one in a Moss navy blue/white stripe livery.
Yess agree 👍🏽
Sounds like an ideal first sports car for the well-heeled - or - for those who don't actually want a fabulously fast Ferrari!!
Essential purchase if you want to be on the Purosangue waiting list
I was thinking this the whole time I watched the video! Ferrari is always guaranteed sales because of people wanting to appease Ferrari so they can get allocation for one of the "special" cars
It's an awesome car. Great for keeping at a beach house. Don't think you approached it with the right mindset. Cheers.
It's not a Porsche with a big ugly wing on the back!
@@sweetfreedomGB Exactly! 👍
Yes, exactly. It's a shame, but Sam (like every other boy-gearhead 🙄) can't seem to enjoy a car if it isn't a throttle-heavy suburban daddy racer with an ugly wing.
To be fair to Sam he did state throughout the video it’s a car that harks back to glamourous Ferraris of the past, the sort of weekend car to tour the coasts of Mediterranean countries, not the track day weapons like his Stradale or 911 GT3 which are far more his sort of thing.
To me the Roma Spider delivers what every Ferrari does and that is make the driver feel special.
Sorry Ferrari but that wind deflector is awful. It seems like a complete afterthought. It looks like you have forgotten to close a luggage compartment. Very poor. They should've taken a leaf from Porsche's book - the electric pop-up wind deflector on the 992 is a great solution
Quite agree.
Idk why ur making such a big deal over a deflector
Should have taken it from any Mercedes SL from the 90’s onwards. The best interior insulation of ANY convertible out there, ever. It’s simply the OG of the Gentleman’s GT Sports Car and it’s still incredible. Also, the SL r230 has the perfect aero to keep heavy rain out when the roofs open at speeds as low as 15- 20 mph.
@@fizzcarreviews7997 Design and detail are important on any car. The more expensive the car, the more important it is. Ferrari's solution here looks cheap and tacky from any angle.
Nothing compares to my! 911 Tutbo S
I'm not sure if I would have a GTC over this new Roma Spider, I love the look of it and it's a Ferrari!! Great video again
This comment is like NPC wrote it
I love the Roma. I thought your F-Type comment was interesting. I own an F-Type, and if I suddenly came into some money, I'd buy a Roma. A comfortable, fast, good looking, touring Ferrari is right up my street! Oh and congrats on the sale of the 360! Seventy large, nice!
I like it. I am a fan of the Portofino, but this one gives me Aston vibes. I like it al lot.
It looks so nice and would be the perfect car to cruise by the beach in
Never been able to understand why there are unusable back seats with no legroom, a boot big enough to house a hampster and a ludicrous price tag, oh yes i forget it has a prancing horse on it, get a new mx5 and save 150k
but then you'd be driving an MX5... ewwwwww
More appropriate comparison would be to just buy a 911 cabriolet. These people see a miata as a poor persons cars. Pauper mobile.
So you have a crush on the 575M currently. It's a great car. I've had mine for 9 years now and have loved every minute of driving it. Far more interesting to drive than the 296GTB or the Roma. Better looking too. Next time you're in Melbourne borrow mine.
It looks like a Chrysler Crossfire convertible. The rear seats being higher than the fronts is utterly tragic. Great video otherwise!
My brother in Christ did you just compare this to a Crossfire?
A targa version would have probably looked better but hard to store the top
@@neckray Indeed I did. Looks better than the Purospaghetti but that's about it.
To each their own 🥲
The Portifino looks better
Wow this looks EPIC!
That tablet on the dash is gopping
Yes, I agree. I want to like the Roma, but it just doesn't have that "it" that makes me love my cars like the 911 and DB12.
“Worryingly good at just pootling around” wow you really did have low expectations.
Finally an honest review of this car which validates my thoughts: it's simply an excellent driving convertible with elegant styling. Given all the other reviewers that are gushing all over this thing, I'm thinking they've been paid off so they can have a free trip. Any number of BMW M or Mercedes AMG convertibles can do what this car can do. If it doesn't compare any better than that, it means at over triple the price, this car is way overpriced simply because of the badge. Rich old guy prestige car that won't be pushed beyond the capabilities of a Mercedes-AMG CLE on any given day. Waste of money for anyone who loves the brand for it's racing heritage.
When does the Challenge Stradale arrive? Please say soon
Love the camera on the rear quarter. Great driving video. I felt the fizz just watching.
So love your honest reviews...which is why I never miss a Sunday upload!!
I like it and having played with the configurator I think I could get one of these just as I want it.
I saw two Roma's here in the SF area this weekend, and I think the coupe version is far better looking.
Nice one Sam, watched it with an STG coffee. Looks like a nice trip, even without extra bits.
Man, I read this as YOUR new Ferrari Roma! Hahaha looks amazing as always.
Personally, since I had my first convertible I think it is a must because you get the 2 experiences out of only one car. Ps: my first convertible is a Boxster S (981) and it recalibrated my ownership experience, since it is a useable car but also a fun car at the same time.
As an, er, "older" guy, I'm not so interested in lap times, more GT. As such, this would be a Ferrari for me. Alas, I may be an "older" guy, I'm not a rich older guy, so I won't be having one of these...
Such a gorgeous car! Up there with the Porsche 911 Targa 4 GTS, Aston Martin DBS Superleggera Volante 5.2 V12, Ford Mustang Mach 1 & Dodge Challenger R/T 😍
What an odd list
@@iiroyalty2519 a good list none the less. Has %80 of what I was looking to buy
Voiture très élégante, ce bleu/gris lui va à merveille, dommage que la capote n'est pas bleue également plutôt que ce noir sempiternel
This car with the Portofino M dashboard (dump the hamptic and tablet) and it would be a winner... Nice review Sam - Love Sardinia
Sam you missed the point it’s a fantastic car, they don’t always need to be frantic to drive, relax and enjoy
Sam, great video, doesn't matter you think you couldn't make it great with 4 hours in the car
I’m fortunate to be looking at this segment. Test drove the Roma but was disappointed re wind deflector (rubbish), one cup holder ( in a GT, where does my drink go?) haptic controls are slow, left foot rest too high up the transmission tunnel so my leg is bent uncomfortably, steering too nervous for a GT. Test drove the new AM DB12 and fell instantly in love. A car to put serious miles in. I’ve ordered one
The hard tops also had options for body-coloured or black roofs if I remember correctly, so I don’t see additional options as a reason. I imagine that some of the additional weight is from strengthening the chassis. I think it looks ok - not sure it looks better than the California though. I don’t think the Roma is a great looking car - a bit F-Type and I don’t like the front grill. I don’t think the design will age particularly well.
It seems to be a very spec dependant car. Saw one in Verde British n it blew me away. But I do agree about the California. I found it to be ugly to be honest. The Portofino was ok but again did nothing for me. The Roma Coupe on the other hand was really well done.
I owned the twin turbo California T and the top of line Jaguar F Type R series and now own a C8 convertible. I think I like this design better than all the rest of those. My only issue with Ferrari is having to leave it at the dealership for at least a week every year even if you only drove the car 1,000 miles. You have to do this to keep the warranty and it’s a hassle. My other car right now is a Tesla Model Y and it’s a great car and I think now I’ll hold out for an all wheel drive, all electric sports car.
I would never had thought that the AM Vanquish convertible from 2014 could ever be beaten as a glamorous cruiser….. I WAS WRONG …?? can a car look sexy…… on this occasion most definitely….. beautiful car, external colour is fantastic, interior of this press car flat, boring, with no zing …. Stunning car and the scenery is wonderful ….
The Vanquish convertible does indeed have the best side profile of any modern sports car.
@@GM-fh5jp only the side profile…??? Come on, all of its design plus that boot spoiler is on the money….. AM greatest design… Even the new DB12 looks front heavy just like the newer DBS …. This Ferrari and Vanquish tops for styling through my eyes.
I totally understand why you don't love this car, because that a car is expensive doesn't mean you'l love, that a car is extremely capable doesn't mean you'll love it, that the car is a Ferrari (or any recognized brand) doesn't mean you'll love it.
It's all about the experience the car provides! And whether that experience resonates with you or not, I, for instance, would take the 296 GTS 🥰 every single time over this 🤔
Living the life Sam! You must be if you're just 'ho-hum' about a new Ferrari.🤨😅
Absolutely lovely video and very enjoyable thank you so much
Almost expected Naomi to pop up in her black helicopter firing machine guns at you ! (bonus points if you get the reference)
Is it Rambo?
Well if he jumps off a jetty into the water we are in trouble 😂
I think I’ve realised the reason I’ve started to hate watching ‘automotive journalists’ is because all they do is complain and nit pick about erroneous crap.
Ditto. But they all fawn over GT3's like silly schoolboys.
Stunning looking car, especially in that colour.
My impression from Sam’s experience was that the car in spider form at least just didn’t float his boat. Perhaps even a tad bored of it. From the point of view that I can’t afford to buy one let alone run one, but as a dream car… nah not for me either though if given free with all costs taken care of by a beneficent perhaps I’d change my tune. I have looked at a number of used hot cars such as Ferrari 612 the shape of with I really love, 456, Maseratis quad and tourismo also over the last few years and while they may excite on appearance and the way they seem to drive and feel, I find the fact that they are not especially cheap to buy used (although mas quads are) in the first instance, they cost shed loads to run and parts costs ridiculous and their reliability is often depressing. If I could afford to buy new, I guess running costs wouldn’t be an issue to me, but they seem to spend more time in garages for maintenance than I expect premium cars like these should for the money they cost to buy. You all may laugh at what next I’m about to disclose in that I have an Alfa gtv 2.0. It’s not fast by most standards. It’s not practical in terms of boot space, though believe me I have certainly made use of every nook and cranny when required to. And while it can fit two in the rear seats (if the driver doesn’t mind his nose pressed against the steering wheel due to the seat having to be so far forward to accommodate the rear) it remains bags of fun imo - to me at least. Further, it’s actually quite reliable and considerably inexpensive to run and maintain. I’ve driven to Loire France in it sometimes twice in a year for over 12 years in the 14 years I’ve had the car. It let me down once on one of those trips when the auxiliary belt gave out thankfully before I had got too far from home, but to be fair I had never had that belt changed since I bought it used in 2009 (yes the timing belts but overlooked that one). So based on my findings and experience I have struggled to justify chucking it in for something I fear would bust my account and leave me stranded high and dry. And there’s the thing. There’s nothing out there (including normal more reasonable cars) that I would consider chucking it in for, save one of my other old favourites and a completely different car altogether, the Daimler double six series three. Had the xj12 series 3 saloon. Loved it. It was actually reliable having got me all the way to Cardiff and Swansea several times until it was eventually stollen. However, they do rust and most good condition ones available are “ potentially dubious near rust free imports from Japan” or other equally recently painted where the rust will come through after a year again. So for the time being I’ll stick with my GTV which I know most of its foibles and it’s limitations, because in the end it puts a smile on my face still and still manages to turn a few heads, if only because other drivers are amazed it’s still on the road 😂
Interesting that both the new Merc SL and Roma Spider are now soft tops with four seats.
Yeah feel the same as you Sam. Meh. Doesn’t bring the dolce bite back at all.
I am not sure why the Roma sales have been a bit hit and miss....it is a very pretty car.
Personally I would never buy a Spider over a coupe, but that is just me.
I wonder if the V8 engine doesn't inspire....I have always thought that Ferrari V8's (post 355) sound a bit -meh!
Perhaps the 296 V6 would sound a lot more inspiring in the Roma.
“6:25 so quiet this thing”. No it’s not. Don’t like the sound of the engine. The engine sounds very stressed. V8’s aren’t suitable for concertibles. Take an inline 6 or a V12. What in essence had changed since the Mercedes SL’s of the nineties?
I read this completely wrong, I thought you were saying this is your new Roma Spider 😂
Very pretty thing, its the daily Ferrari, nothing else in there range can realy do that, even the Purosangue isnt realy somthing you would want to daily due to the engine.
I do wonder who walks past an 812, an F8, a 296 GTB and decides to spend £200k on a Roma
The collector who wants the next SP4 and is told they have to buy a Roma to be considered.
The ones who missed out on bagging an 812 SF/GTS n the F8 before they seized production. Then you have the folks, as the previous comment mentioned, who are forced to buy a Roma, the Roma Spyder, the GTC4 Lusso, the SF90, the 296 n whatever else the dealership wants to dump on him/her just so that he/she is able to get an allocation for the upcoming La Ferrari replacement and/or the SP4. The latter is especially significant when it comes to the Ferrari n Porsche buyers from the US. Forget the halo cars, they have to jump through a lot of hoops just to get an allocation for the Purosangue.
@@rahulsudhir666 yeah I understand they're harder to bag new. But I'd much rather a used but still under warranty F8 or 812 over a brand new custom spec Roma. But that's just me.
Em… prolly someone who doesn't have enough money on 812, F8, 296?
Joking aside, it's probably one of the prerequisites to a higher-end stuff
I cant be the only one who sees the resembelance with the Fiat Barchetta.
I think it is beautiful. One question though. When the wind buffer is in the up position can you see over out of the rear view mirror. With the camera angle it really didn't look like it but surely you can
Pluses: Front engine-rear drive, beautiful leather, nearly endless personalization Negatives: not a particularly good exhaust note, ephemeral tech, screens galore, convertible seems an afterthought to the coupé.
This is my kind of car actually, its the upgrade to my BMW z4 m40i😅 The DB12 is too big!😮
Go with the drop top. Better looking than the coupe top up or down.
Would the air deflector eject your child from the back seat upon deployment?
I really enjoyed it Sam.
Thank You.
Love the MoonSwatch! Have you PPF'd it? ;)
If a 612 bhp rwd Ferrari convertible doesn't give you "the fizz" perhaps it's time to consider that maybe you are the problem not the car
Or maybe you don’t get what the fizz is
@JC94 well don't worry your little self, because I most certainly do get what it is.
@@th3b0untyhunter oh okay, I’ll stop worrying Big Daddy Bounty Hunter 💦
This Roma is gay af
Buy one Sam, list it on Collecting Cars and Nebett will pay 15% over the odds for it. Profits all day long! 😂
Give me the hard-top Portofino with the older tech that isn't annoying. If I wanted a soft-top, I'd rather have a 911 Cab. As always, YMMV.
Have you guys got any cars sorted for your Australia trip? Particularly the Gold Coast event 😚
'You're not worthy' (gr8 video tho)
Sam you need to put some jam on the bottom of your trousers and invite them down to your shoes for a tea party. Surely you are still not wearing your old school trousers ?
Nice, but I'd prefer the new Maserati GT convertible. Nicer styling.👍
James Byron Dean.....lmfao......😂keep away from the petrol fumes...😂😂😂
DB11 Volante V8 or this?
If I was shitting money, this would be my beater drop top Ferrari that id use to smoke cigars in while driving around in flips and shorts on a Sunday morning!
Most wives would prefer the quiet and sexiness
I certainly don’t think you will be asked back in the future? Especially with the full on criticism!
I would get the Lexus LC convertible instead, not have maintenance issues, and save $150K!! …….but if I had the $$$ for an 812 GTS?!? That’s another question! ….sad there was no coffee / cafe stop!!
honestly, ferrari's disdain for building driver's cars is coming home to roost - they've basically lost their touch, all they know is HP and track times. Which I could care less about
How reliable is it?
gotta agree about the looks....that rear end looks kinda bulbous... and Im not a fan of that little spoiler
is the colour azzuro california?
very pretty car....my F type sounds better... just saying. ....i wonder what's the difference in driving experience between the 2?
Why does he always do his piece to camera bending down
If i was offered a Ferrari Roma Spider i'd have to turn it down for not being " fizzy " enough. Sam has become way too blasé.......
Spends too much time with mouthy Porsche obsessed Tony 😢
I’d take the Aston DB12 Volante every time over this.
If this car isn't _that_ good, what would Sam say about my Volvo XC40 T4 then...? 😂
Love it - amazing car
The back looks horrible. They should have made it a two-seater, with more space for your luggage.
This is a shareholders compromise.
Is this guy Shmee brother?
Still the best Aston Martin that Aston Martin don't make.
Bro u selling the 360?
Still can't think of many soft top convertibles that look good with the roof up. This certainly isn't one. And something I've never liked about the Roma is the screen that looks like a child has just wedged your iPad into the centre console.
Looks a bit Graham, Graham Norton
If you drove a 130 bhp Ford c max every day and you jumped into that you would wet yourself and as the roof comes off even better.
Thing is ....this or Portofino M ?
It’s not red that’s your problem.
6:23 sliding between a bus and a lorry on the way to drop the wife off.
For me it seems like Ferrari is doing everything wrong at the moment.
There is only one beautiful car in the current line-up and that is the Roma coupe.
The Spider just don't do anything for me, neither does anything else they make.
And i dont like the interior on the Roma really.
I am exited to see what your next car is.
If you can't afford a CS yet I actually hope you try another brand until you can afford the CS.
Would love to see you in a Aston.
Nice video though.
1:47 "Dick Lover i Swindon". Or am I just hearing it wrong....? 😅
Dick Lovett is name of the car dealer. Certainly a name to conjure with !
Yeah - damned with faint praise!!!
Your no Dean Martin buddy 😂
