I never woulda recognized Rik with that beard. And it's good to see a musician that KNOWS when his time has come and he can no longer hit "the note". Instead of faking and using a vocal backing track he brings in a singer to cover his ass. Respect. I love him even more than I did. In my top 3 guitarist list.
I wasn’t sure that was him either, plus he’s usually doing acoustic shows now. Saw him awhile ago and he sounded great, didn’t need any help hitting the high notes, but he joked around about them in this song.
Rik is now 70 and still killing it…where the F did the time go? Still remember seeing him front row at Hamilton Place in 1981 with Harlequin opening…. Amazing show
I agree! I was at the US festival for them. One of the greatest sets ever! I also got to meet Rik on his first solo tour. One of the nicest guys and purest voices I've ever heard - oh, and he's a virtuoso guitarist as well!
I saw Triumph in 1982 on the Allied Forces tour and in 1986 on the Sport of Kings tour. One of the absolute best live bands ever. I am so glad to see Rik is still out there doing what he does best.
Rik is one one of the most underrated guitar players AND singers. He brought in 2 extra guitar player, and unlike most others he actually plays the lead parts!
I've seen Rik Emmett several times over the past 5 years . HE NEVER DISAPPOINTS, ALWAYS FANTASTIC!!! GREAT MUSICIAN & SINGER !!! Come back to Chicago !!!
Never understood why Triumph was so very underrated They were a very talented Trio of Musicians Ric Emmett ,Gil Moore and Mike Levine They blew My Mind back in the Day Awesome Rock and Roll Machine
Seen triumph and survivor in St Louis back in the 80s I still have the ticket stub one of the best shows I had ever ever seen still a huge triumph an can't go wrong with these guys and you never could
Was shocked to come across this. Great to see Emmett let someone younger sing the high notes. Nothing wrong with that. Awesome, hope to see them tour here, cause I will be in front row. Rush, Triumph, and Grand Funk, outside of Hendrix, the 3 greatest 3 man bands all came out of Canada!
I met Rik at a radio station in Pleasant Prairie, WI in 2004 and was able to sit in the studio for his interview and watched him play “Hold On” and part of “Midsummer’s Daydream” on a Yamaha acoustic guitar 5 feet away! What an amazing, down to earth guy! I’ll never forget it. 👍🏻😎
I'm a huge Triumph fan. and Rik Emmett is a fantastic guitarist. a while ago he was giving tutorials on how he played some of those Triumph songs. here on RUclips. he even talked about playing the double neck.
I love Rik, This video is amazing, Thank you for bringing it out for us that live a bit far away from Canada, I'm Mexican and fell in love with Triumph back in the 80´s
What a great tune! My God, my guitar hero has arrived! Versatile guitar player, fantastic vocalist, great songwriter and most importantly, appears to be a kind human. My way to follow from tenderness to passion... My greatest rock music influence who even forced me to pick up my own electric guitar to resonate with him! How I want to learn your hooks, riffs and chords! Your unforgettable double neck guitar brings only good memories:... Thanks a lot, my dear Rik! You are amazing!
We loved Triumph in Texas and still do!! I can't remember how many times I saw them but it was more than once!! That was a great performance and Ric is still a great player. Great band!!
Great video!!!! A little story… years ago Rik and the Canadian band Honeymoon Suite did a tour together and I was hanging backstage and Rik was warming up and I brought a Triumph cd booklet to get signed,at that time he wasn’t signing anything by his former band but being 6’4 350 pound guy I asked him and he reluctantly signed it and gave me the guitar pick he was using…. We chatted and he was so damn cool and killed it that night on stage
That’s very cool I love Triumph. And I can appreciate when there’s love for one’s music but wise enough to know one’s limitations are but still rock out 🤘🏼🤘🏼👍👍I would go see them
Big fan of our Canadian brothers. Listened to Triumph and Rush in the US in '79. Great mesh with the Southern Rock bands, Boston, Kansas, and ZZ Top. Imagine?
Glad to see him still out there! I saw the Spellbound tour in Providence, Rhode Island many years ago where they filmed the Follow Your Heart video. What a great show! Molly Hatchet opened up for them.
Big fan of Rik Emmett. Saw Triumph when they did their first American tour. Saw a video on his Facebook page where he says he's retired and no longer touring.☹️
I saw Triumph for the Thunder Seven and Sport of Kings tours. What an incredible live show. Left quite an impression on a 16 year old kid. Even better than the Police, Synchronicity tour or Van Halen for the 1984 tour.
Great stuff….in my world Rik was a huge positive influence on guitar. A pre-eminent rock “plus” guitar player with outstanding musical knowledge and talent.
Gave me goosebumps when he started singing. Glad I found this. Triumph was a big part of the 80's.
the 80s? I was listening to them since the 70's. Had Rock and Roll Machine on vinyl
I know whatcha mean. Huge airplay on FM radio stations, back in the day.
Me too!

Who's the other two?
Rik is now 70 and still killing it…where the F did the time go? Still remember seeing him front row at Hamilton Place in 1981 with Harlequin opening…. Amazing show
Doing it with class nice job nothing fake going on here..
Time is a fuckholer, that's for sure David!
for sure it all seems like yesterday... Rock on! Still listening music from that era. Still training and still burning rubber.
Most underrated band ever.
Big time !
A Canadian rock trio that probably got overshadowed by another Canadian rock trio. 🤷🏼♂️
! And a trio at their finest.
I agree! I was at the US festival for them. One of the greatest sets ever! I also got to meet Rik on his first solo tour. One of the nicest guys and purest voices I've ever heard - oh, and he's a virtuoso guitarist as well!
@@jonnyroxx7172 I was at both US fests... backstage.
Every time I hear this song it makes me proud to be Canadian. Long live rock n roll!
Every time I hear this song it makes me proud to know where Canada is!
I saw Triumph in 1982 on the Allied Forces tour and in 1986 on the Sport of Kings tour. One of the absolute best live bands ever. I am so glad to see Rik is still out there doing what he does best.
I’ll put this tune up against any of the great rock anthems of the 80’s. 🤟🇨🇦
1979
Absolutely. They killed it at the US83 show. They were the best act that day. Scorpions and Judas Priest.
I agree 👍
Absolutely!
Great song no doubt however if we’re talking “Anthems” The Blinding Light Show is more in that category.
Rik still sounds amazing, and his band is excellent. Triumph should have gone on longer than it did, but it's great to see Rik still killing it!
What. This is amazing. Triumph needs a reunion tour!!
Rik is one one of the most underrated guitar players AND singers. He brought in 2 extra guitar player, and unlike most others he actually plays the lead parts!
Canadian here. Triumph, and Rick have been a huge part of my life. Best Rock bands come from Canada 🇨🇦
Triumph and April Wine are two of my all time favorite bands.
Sweeeeeet, super excited to see Rick out playing for all of us to enjoy. Such an unrated guitar player, song writer and vocalist!!!
Fact !
Rik Emmitt & Tommy Shaw are two of the most overlooked guitarists & singers IMO.
And two of my ALL TIME Favorites !
Styx, Was my First Concert, my older brother took me, it was the Paradise Theater Tour. Great Show.
I've seen Rik Emmett several times over the past 5 years . HE NEVER DISAPPOINTS, ALWAYS FANTASTIC!!! GREAT MUSICIAN & SINGER !!! Come back to Chicago !!!

I have been lucky enough to see Triumph a few times in the 80s, then Rik and Dave twice. Always great shows. Riks music is a part of me.
Seen triumph and survivor in St Louis back in the 80s I still have the ticket stub one of the best shows I had ever ever seen still a huge triumph an can't go wrong with these guys and you never could
Rik Emmett never ceases to amaze me. What a guitar player!

I met Rik Emmett about 30 yrs ago a couple of times. He is one of the most genuinely nicest people of all time!

He doesn't just let the guy sing his song, he shows real respect and appreciation with his reactions. True class!
