The Val thing didn't make sense. He wakes up at 4am, starts working at 3pm then works until 4am? So when does he sleep?

    Around 40:30
Guys, I would LOVE an episode or 5, or regular segment, on managing people. Operators, CEOs, employees, eachother, whatever. Just your experiences, wins, and lessons learned. Not enough people have transparent conversations about this!

Best part for me is 18:58 to 20:54 where Sam talks about his worst investment being angel investing where he has invested north of a million dollars and haven't gotten a single dollar in return.
And then Andrew responds about a friend who did angel investing and got returns in two years and in Andrew's words "probably learnt the wrong lesson" cause when you start something for the first tome and it's works quickly, it could mess with you a bit
This was a takeaway for me cause in a first-time founder and i haven't gotten a client yet despite all my cold outreach attempts
Just makes know i should push harder and that big things take time

Some founders are not meant to be their own sales people and are better off partnering with a sales person and giving them equity in exchange. If you have a great offering and can’t land a client, you might just not be selling it in a way that encourages action.

Read the Wager because Sam mentioned it on X. That book was great! The in-fighting, mutiny, ship politics and disasters absolutely gave me another perspective of that age.

Anyone in Queensland Australia want to do a Mini MFM meet up in the new year? Bunch of business minds getting together and shooting ideas. Previously I have owned 10 service stations, 4 furniture stores, 2 cafes, and currently 2 Tyre and Auto stores and a car rental fleet. My biggest revenue year was just shy of 98mill. I’m 43.

How did you manage that? Amazing

    • @justmikejames
      @justmikejames 7 месяцев назад +3

@@herogebrial Quickly realised in my 20s by talking to business owners that they aren’t gifted or special or smarter nor do they work any harder than me they simply had a belief that they could buy a business and made it happen. Once you realise that owing a business isn’t a gift it’s just a desire then the equation becomes easier. I had no handouts, parents passed away early. 1st business was a cafe I vendor financed in and the rest is history I guess.

6:40 Sam is on the money with this. You cannot be the "nicest guy ever" while swooping on large amounts of assets from somebody defaulting on a loan that is worth a fraction of the assets. This type of thing doesn't make someone a bad person, of course, but you'd be hard-pressed to believe they are 'the nicest ever'.

29:44 this is a funny dilemma. While studying finance I bought 2 stocks with 2 hypotheses after a big drop.
I bought Tesla after the Elon Twitter stuff and Tesla dropped. Now +100% since everybody saw strong to strong production & sales numbers.
But I also bought PayPal thinking the huge drop was due to the economic downturn after COVID consequences. However PayPal went -50% because payment traffic online actually dropped significantly after COVID.
So you see this falling knive dilemma can catch you on both sides.

I did buy 2x more Tesla than PayPal so overall these bets won.

I think even the things never change e.g. Snickers bars thing is a trap, people are going to eat healthier snacks in future. They will still taste like Snickers bars but the food industry will need to adapt. Can already see a huge pivot to sugar alcohols like ethyritol.
