In criminal law, a speedy trial is a defendant's right to a trial within a reasonable time period, and without unnecessary delay. I just googled this and there are a ton of unnecessary delays.
I think it means the right of a speedy trial means that it starts quickly or within a reasonable time without delay. Not that the case has to move quickly and a decision be made quickly too. For the record I think they’ve been held too long but just to clarify that one point you brought up
When you aren't playing with your own money, you get arrogant and careless and that's what these prosecutors are doing. They are too caught up with their own pride and paychecks rather than the real justice at the taxpayer's expense. Either they are being too idealistic and not realistic weighing benefits versus costs or they are just being greedy like the trips to Italy for the OJ trial.
I feel bad for the jurors. Even they feel like they're in jail. I bet they miss their spouse, kids, homies, and pets if they have any. All this delay is attributable to the defense: they requested the change of judge, they rehash all their motions and arguments again and again, and they engage in unprofessional conduct by harboring resentments against the ADAs. This behavior would never be tolerated in a federal court. Only in Georgia!
And they’ve literally wasted weeks because the state didn’t have their witnesses ready and Glanville would constantly allow it. The state is the one dragging this out.
