What a fabulous collection! There's much to admire here. I really like the way you still pay respect to the older steam locos. They may be light years behind the current examples in so many ways, but were very much state-of-the-art when made. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you Sam. I now have a British oo gauge railway and have been brought back into the hobby because of you. I run small engines oo gauge but I love your channel. Your the best.
I was beginning to worry since buying three locomotives in one single shot a couple of weeks ago. Great collection and thanks for all your videos, my interest in model trains was rekindled by your channel last spring.
Hey Sam, I would love to see you reviewing roco/fleischmann locos, they are quite expensive, but in my experience they are totally worth it, every cent
@@SamsTrains All my steam locos are Roco and Fleischmann models (with one exeption being from the Dutch brand Artitec) and especially the Roco models have great motors. Very strong. The only downside I have experienced is some models don't have enough weight pushing down on the front running wheels. This can cause derailments when you use track (switches is where the derailment will most likely occur) that has a higher rail profile than Roco's own rail system.
I recon even with some of my recent buys my collection is a fraction of yours, you’re one of my favourite youtubers and I’m always excited for what you do next
Hello again Sam! I just want to say that this STUNNING collection of yours has inspired me to get a few of some of the locos you've shown us here. 1, the Bachmann Berkshire at 23:05 - I'm getting one of those delivered this week, maybe tomorrow! After seeing your review on it from a few years ago, I knew I had to get one! I'm also having some US hoppers wagons delivered to go with it. 2, the Bachmann GS4 Daylight at 23:20 - that is also another loco that keeps crossing my mind, thanks to your review on it! The sheer size alone has me bewildered. The character and streamlined build are also two key factors in me wanting to buy one for myself! 3, the Mehano Canadian U-L-1 at 23:16 (which you called a Hudson by mistake haha) - there's just something about those Western steam trains with the combined coal/tanker tenders that's seriously cool. This is definitely one of the biggest and best collection yet. And as I say, it really has inspired me quite a bit! Keep up the great reviews and keep expanding as much as you can! Many regards, Owen.
Hello Sam, wow, I'm just lost for words, lost for words, what a collection, very impressed, and you still have more in drawers, plus all the rolling stock we didn't see, a great upload, take care, Allan.
Hi Sam, can’t believe how you are able to remember and know each of the models within your vast collection. How do you keep all those shelves with the models so dust free….? What a collection, how long has this been growing. Inspirational. Fantastic insight into the railway room. Now when are you going to do the rolling stock again? All best Marc
I only have to say that not being a collector or even own a single train anymore is one of the hardest things I ever had to do. Maybe it is time for me to start over and start building again now the kids have grown up and left. A massive thank you for the entertaining and enjoyable experience.
Hi Sam, wow!! what a fantastic collection. Now the impossible question, what would you consider to be your best all time model, thanks for the great videos and the massive effort you put in.
I've been waiting for a video like this! and what a collection, 500 models is a big achievement, no idea how you've been able to get all of those! can't wait for more, fantastic video, Sam, and maybe to avoid confusion, as long as it would take, perhaps you could print out some labels for the engines to put on the wooden shelf beneath them? - TIDS
Cool video and nice rolling stock. I don’t have as many rolling stock but give it time 😂 I nearly have all my rolling stock out and playing them as i watching this video.
Hey Sam. I really enjoyed watching your video about your locomotive fleet. You have so much more locos than I do wagons. The video was a little lengthy, but well worth watching. And no. You do not need any help of any kind. I just thought I’d show some support and say that you have an amazing channel. Keep up the great work with your reviews, how-to tutorials, as well as your 3D print model videos. Take Care-Raymond
Such an amazing collection. Needs more diesels though, such as a bachmann 47. My 00 fleet is currently at 316 locos, the latest being a heljan 07 like yours. I picked it up for £55 weathered and DCC fitted, however it was missing a load of details like handrails and a horn, and even the extra rods that appear on one side only. So while watching this, I've been adding the details I can without access to all my supplies at my parents' house (including handrail knobs). I'd love to see a review of a triang Princess, as though it's a modern loco.
Well done, Sam. Seriously, you've come a long way and I'm proud to have been able to come along for the ride, so to speak. I've been a subscriber for at least 6 years and you've been a comfort in so many ways. Thank you so much
Great video. Great to see that so many locos have a happy home. Have you noticed the new set to pre-order at Hatton's? Lord of the Isles plus two Victorian coaches. I have pre-ordered and look forward to you doing a review at some time in the future.
3:20 Have you ever reviewed the Standard Class 3? 6:00 Wow you have 4 Hornby Peckett W4 10:40 Called the N2 an N7 11:40 Called the N7 an N2 13:00 Called the Bachmann H1 a Hornby lol 22:40 Can you do a video reviewing all your Hornby T9 and another reviewing all your Hornby Schools?
Great video there of your loco Army(Fleet) is very impressive. My favorites are the Flying Scotsman, the Coronations, the Daylight. You have your own railroad/railway empire Sam.
When did you get that Walthers GP9 and here’s some info of the American engines: Those engines you were saying are SD40-2s are AHM/Mehano C-628s that GP40-2 you said was an Athearn is that Atlas, the Daylight is a GS4, that engine next to the Daylight is CN U-1-F 6060 is by Mehano and the Bachmann Southern engine is a E7. Fantastic collection Sam!
Well done excellent video especially naming them all. I stuck to collecting repeat locos from an earlier collection that I gave away and some that I have soft spot. I'll have to have a count in the engine shed and TMD, I think I am in the teens and decided to stop there. I know you have mentioned quite a few LMS Moguls, I would be interested to know if you have a Hughes Crab Mogul this would 13000+ in LMS days or in BR days it would start off with the number 42700+! I am glad to see you did get some vital help from Bob Carolgees with identifying intruders with his trusty canine companion, Spit the Dog!🤣
I would quite like to see you review your Lima Class 50. You've never reviewed it, and have also never reviewed a Class 50, and have had it for years, it is also my favourite class of Diesel and it would be nice to see you finally cover one. =)
Hmmm. I could be wrong here, Sam, but I believe you prefer steam locomotives over other types. 😁 Also, you have mastered the art of the fake spit, one of my favorite modes of expression. And if my wife ever questions my purchase of another model locomotive, my first defensive move will be to show her this video. Cheers from Wisconsin!
That is phenomenal. You should open a museum. Having about one tenth of that number, I don't feel so extravagant now. The next challenge will be to get them all running simultaneously.....
Lovely collection of Locomotives Sam. Some lovely ones but unfortunately with a collection of that size it's natural to add more then you have storage issues. Well done it's something to be proud of. Enjoyed the video. Take care Basil.
Hi Sam, great video, superb collection, so much to dust, where are the boxes? how much did you spend on this amazing collection, how many coaches and wagons do you own?
And I thought I was nuts with one fifth of this quantity (N gauge included)... Awesome ! For one review, Heljan is reissuing their class 14 this month. If not already planned, can you have a look at it, please ? Your opinion would be very interesting.
Very impressive collection, knowledge and recognition. If you wanted to make a big thing of the Bachmann/Hornby distinction, I think Hornby would be delighted to have had the LBSC H1 Atlantic added to their catalogue! Only other thing which jumped out was the lack of mention for the K1, found it eventually called a K2. The number of Halls was definitely a surprise!
Bugsy I take a few off you once you decide to move to TT... Just think of how many more locos you will fit into your loft at that smaller scale ;) Questions... 1. Do you dust your collection, as you have them on shelves, I like to store mine but I did buy a 2nd hand A4 that came in an old port gift box with perspex, it works fantastically as a display case. Sadly not easy to obtain more, so I'm scrapping the idea I had on screwing loads together. 2. Do you think you will be moving to TT? Or will you wait a year or so for the collection to increase?
Bloody hell! I'm up to about 65ish since getting back into the hobby during lockdown and have been thinking I need to cut down, but clearly I have a long way to go!😀 Now all you need to do is build a proper layout to run them on!😁 Are there any that you DON'T have yet that you'd particularly like to get? And which are you're favourites? Personally I really like some of the BR experimental blue locos in my collection. And like many people I love my A4s. But my absolute favourite is my Hornby Cornonation class 'Sir Wiliam A. Stanier' in crimson lake livery, which is simply magnificent. I also have a bit of a soft spot for my Hornby K1. It's an excellent model and there's just something about it that makes it my favourite goods engine. Of my small locos the pecketts stand out. I have 'Bear' in a beautiful royal blue livery and would like to get Daphne in that lovely crimson livery.
I'm new to all this so help me to understand a few things. Why do you have so many engines with the same name? Did you do a review on each one? I notice that some complain about your carpet and find fault with your reviews. Don't let these dudes get under your skin. After all, they are just jealous because they are working on a cold, hard floor, and as for your reviews, you make it clear that's just your opinion and they don't have to agree. I'm glad I found someone willing to step up, show the problem, and point it out to those who have enough sense to listen. God Bless My Friend.
That's amazing, puts my collection of a Big boy, a GP40, a Duchess of Hamilton and a Class 52 to shame xD, I'd love to see a review of the Polar Express as it's getting close to Christmas.
Totally stunning collection, hats off to you,its what you call dedication to your hobby...Just one question, how many items of rolling stock to you have?...lol...!!
Great work sam as always, love seeing all of your hard work in one place. Although, where do you keep all of your boxes for everything? Do you just bin all the packaging or you have a storage unit somewhere you keep them all in :"D
Bin the packaging? Are you mad? For some reason even parts of the backing from Star Wars models are worth more than the figurines themselves. So, no, you don't bin the box. If you know what's good for you, that is.
@@JP_TaVeryMuch haha, I personally have never put any of my boxes in the bin, I was asking Sam about his personal situation, not a regular modeller like you or me.
One hell of a collection Sam, if I had a collection of, well anything, that big, I’d probably have made a spreadsheet or document listing what I’ve got, how many, and what liveries I had it in.
The "American Co-Co" is an EMD E7 and is meant to represent those operated by the Southern Railway. Four from that road have been preserved (Nos. 6900 - North Carolina Transportation Museum in Spencer, North Carolina, 6901 - Southern Railway Museum in Duluth, Georgia, 6913 - Southern Appalachia Railway Museum in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, and 6914 - Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum in Chattanooga, Tennessee). There have, of course, been incidents in which the American Southern Railway and the UK Southern Railway have been mixed up. I caught wind of a heritage society for the latter accidentally using stationary from the former.
What an astounding collection, not to mention that you can name almost all of them. I'm imagining a line of display racks against one wall, mounted to hinge at one end so they turn like pages. Similar to how rugs are often displayed for sale. I'm not sure if such a thing exists commercially, but they wouldn't be hard to build if your wall is suitably strong to mount them. It would be so much easier and more pleasant to view.
Hi Sam, I seem to remember an advert for a forthcoming Hornby Isle of Wight related loco's and or sets, will you be reviewing them? They seem very expensive to me.
It would be cool to see a series where you take a class of locomotive and show the different models it had through the years. Maybe even make it a series.
13:38 Them or ALCO, they were the two big builders of steamers, and they could and would build just about anything. Baldwin for instance, built a pair of narrow-gauge 2-6-6-2 mallets for the Unitah Railway in Utah. These absurd little things had 44,000 pounds of tractive effort (Compared to the 39,701 of a 9F), and they could pull a train over Baxter Pass, which involved a 7 percent climb while also dealing with a 66 degree curve. If you were looking for the most impressively American narrow-gauge steamer ever, there ya go. Also, these things were tank engines, not tender engines.
I’d suggest going GCR again at some point Sam, because early early next year, that 9F you drove, 92214 (City of Leicester) is bowing out as it’s boiler ticket expires.
My dad, brother and I are fairly new to the model railroading hobby, and so far, we really only have 2 trains to run: a diesel-run passenger train courtesy of the Silver Streak Zephyr, and a freight train that I’m working on run by the Union Pacific 4014 Big Boy. I just recently got 4 freight cars for him, and I’m excited to see how he’ll run with them. But our strategy is this: we want to have 4 trains run 4 locomotives: a passenger train run by a Diesel engine, which we have with the Silver Streak Zephyr, a freight train run by a steam locomotive, courtesy of the Big Boy, another passenger train run by a steam locomotive, and a freight train run by a diesel locomotive. So we’re halfway there, one might say. We’re not trying to give our layout a theme, we’re just running what we want to run, if that makes sense.
Dusting in your house must be a right nightmare Sam. I did a similar thing a few years ago I must put it on my channel I can't remember how many I had so thinking of doing a spreadsheet with them all on.
20:38 I never realised the Hornby W1 Hush Hush smokebox door could be exposed. Is this a hidden feature on all of the W1 models or just this version? I like it.
I must admit, seeing the castle class on the shelf has got me realizing it has been over a decade since the new tooling was retired from production. Even though the model looks like it could fit in with the models of today in a way. Maybe a re-review is in order to see how it fairs up after all this time?

That's amazing, puts my collection of a Big boy, a GP40, a Duchess of Hamilton and a Class 52 to shame xD, I'd love to see a review of the Polar Express as it's getting close to Christmas.
Totally stunning collection, hats off to you,its what you call dedication to your hobby...Just one question, how many items of rolling stock to you have?...lol...!!
Sam - certainly amazing. Are there and Steam/ Diesel/ Electric classes which you’re short of ?
I bet you’ve serviced the lot. Wow and thanks
Great collection! I have about half that number of locos.
how do you keep them clean and free of dust?
I use a leaf blower! (No joke)
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
My favorite of ur collections are: the fleischmann Prussian G3, and the Austrian railcar. :)
Wow amazing!!! I have just started my collection 🚂🚂
Now run them all in one go! Great video :)
All very well, but just sitting on a shelf out of their boxes and not in a display case how do you keep them from getting covered in dust!
Do you have the Hornby 'Duchess of Sutherland'?
As a kid in the 70s/80s that was my dream loco.
My first thought was, I hope he have a really great homeinsurrance. The value in that collection must be gigantic
Thank you! Yes absolutely :D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
AMAZING VIDEO
Sam what do you reckon is your favourite loco
Dusting in your house must be a right nightmare Sam. I did a similar thing a few years ago I must put it on my channel I can't remember how many I had so thinking of doing a spreadsheet with them all on.
It would be amazing if you re reviewed your earlier Thomas engines in your latest format. Thank you for the great videos😊
20:38 I never realised the Hornby W1 Hush Hush smokebox door could be exposed. Is this a hidden feature on all of the W1 models or just this version? I like it.
Hey sam, can you do a review of the Bachmann j39, I am curious about whether it's a split chassis or not.
Brilliant collection Sam! 👍🏻
Tomorrow (3rd November) is the 5th anniversary of your first live stream Sam
I must admit, seeing the castle class on the shelf has got me realizing it has been over a decade since the new tooling was retired from production. Even though the model looks like it could fit in with the models of today in a way. Maybe a re-review is in order to see how it fairs up after all this time?
Amazing video today Sam awesome collection
Sam can you do some reviews on some of the older engines like then wren and triang ones.
