If all Jazz music was of this caliber, all Jazz audiences would be like this. I've heard Sonny Rollins, Phil Woods & Cedar Walton play so great that the entire audience couldn't contain themselves and jumped up screaming.
LOVE the way Chick and Roy are comping under McBride's solo.
Roy is one of my favorite drummers because of his way of accompaniment. His playing is so special and so alive. It really lifts the music up.

Roy Haynes is,at the time of this writing,probably the last living musician to have played with Charlie Parker, Bud Powell and Thelonious Monk.There have been thousands of drummers over the years,but Roy's sound remains unmistakable.

And may the late great Roy Hargrove, taken from us far too young, rest in power. He did so much for the music and the musicians coming up after him. The world is smaller without him.
These creative giants just keep getting bigger,and bigger and BIGGER, L.A. is so lacking in this quality of presentation,,,not in musician's,,but intimate venues,,where appreciative, audiences like this one can enjoy CREATIVE,SWINGING,JAZZ,.
I think the peak may have been in the late '70s and early '80s. There were neighborhood clubs everywhere & you could hear great music all over town.

Interestingly, drummer Roy Haynes (now in his late 90’s) has outlived so many of his peers from his youth as well as many of his much younger cohorts such as Chick Corea and Roy Hargrove.
