I’m an ex Toyota of Grapevine tech, 2 reasons for those lug nuts. They center the wheel on the studs and the washer on the lug nut creates a larger contact patch on the wheel compared to a conical or ball seat lug nut.
That is the exact reason. BBS even makes a version of their wheels for these lug nuts. They also make the OEM 10 spoke wheel for the GRC and a few other TRD Pro wheels. If you are going to switch to an aftermarket wheel, you can buy ET (Extended Thread) spline drive lug nuts that will reach down further and give you more thread engagement for vehicles with short studs. Toyotas require a stud replacement, or ET lugs. Fun fact, the GRC is the only Toyota to have studs that is longer in 12x1.5. The rear GRC studs are longer than the front. The front studs are the same ones used on every modern Toyota in that thread pitch. This means, you could in theory use the GRC rear studs on any Toyota car to get extended studs for aftermarket wheels.
@@cooperautrey9479 Also an ex-toyota technician here. Yet another upside of these lug nuts is that they use a built-in washer that reduces friction against the bores in the wheel which reduces wear over time with continued wheel removal and installation. I feel like Toyota always has weird quirky surprises of things that are just slightly better than standard. Like the air intake duct built into the front undershield of the GRC that directs airflow upward at the exhaust manifold, turbo housings, and cat to keep them cool.
I believe the green color swatch on your sway-bar designates a certain rate/weight for different editions of the build within the factory. If you noticed, the other one had a purple swatch.
Adam, the reason of that style lug is cause its way more specific of centering the wheel to the hub, of which a conical lug nut can also, however, Tech's or people can cross thread a conical way easier... Hope this helps Also, aids within NVH (Noise, vibration, Harness) along with verifying trueness running of the Caliper/Rotor/wheel and keeping everything tied together.
6:23 reason for the paint on the sway bar is a quality check I’m pretty sure. Usually if you find colored tape or paint marker or colored stickers or anything, it usually indicates the quality has been checked, in your case with the sway bar it means someone witnessed and verified that it was torqued correctly.
2025 GRC made SO MANY IMPROVEMENTS….one of which was upgrading the suspension! Also improved the Air flow, sub radiator, reduced weight, more weld points, performance package standard on all models….too many to list! Can’t wait to get mine💯
Wild that a smaller car like that can fit 265's all the way around and not rub on coilovers! Also glad to see the 335i get some love with newer stuff that's fixed problems of yesteryear. I can't recall what turbo is on that car, but I'd love to see it back in action with a G35-900 to take advantage of the PI and tuning.
@@Badxperiment They are not. The GR Yaris has a bespoke chassis, which is built by combining parts of the Yaris and CHR/Corolla chassis and completely custom roof line. The GR Corolla is based on the regular Corolla chassis.
you might send those stock shocks to BC and have them run them on a shock dyno - i'd be genuinely curious to see how their performance stacks up to aftermarket parts
I work at a toyota dealer. i like that style lug better than the conical because they to prevent the studs from ruster much better up here in the rust belt. toyotas with steel wheels still use the cone ones and the studs are rusted after 1 winter.
The wheel nuts provide stability and vibration dampening because they are center the wheel to the hub alot better. The ring around the nut is called a slip ring which takes the vibration away from the cars hub.
Bro I'm so stoked seeing the OG s13 and the 335i in the shop. Been getting recommended videos of yours from 6 or 7 years ago and its reminding I watched all those when they first dropped.
The lug nuts are cause the wheels are lug centering instead of traditional hub centering. When you balance factory toyota wheels or certain aftermarket wheels for toyotas to properly balance them your suppose to use "fingers" which is basically replicateing the lug nuts pushing in on the cone on the inside mountaing surface. But in short its what centers the factory toyota and lexus wheels.

Like the wheel choice. Been thinking about DR9s for a while. If I had more time to clean them I would, pretty much the only reason I’m leaning toward 57CRs instead.
Paint markings on car parts usually are a easy visual indicator for factory staff to see its a different variant of the same part , same as how your springs had 1 white then 2 white dots , atleast thats how nissan does it

damn that sounds nice, is it still factory at this point? or have you added mods on top of the wheel swap? those wheels look absolutely dope and very fitting for the GR!
Bro… Please put a custom turbo kit on this car. Companies already have turbo kits you can purchase that give you an easy 500hp. That would be sick! Throw a Garret on there and have your boy weld up a manifold.
