Becky, You should ask Dean if he can get his hands on a 1/2 inch drill bit for doing that with. Much less work involved and you will still get a good drip. Awesome job carving that spout. You definitely picked the perfect time of year for tapping. A good way to test if the season is over is by simply tasting the newly acquired sap. It will lose it's sweet taste. The drippings will also look cloudy. I still can't get over the exquisite job you did carving those spouts. Talk about bush crafting at it's finest! Best of wishes to your mother. This was one excellent Solo experience. Never a dull moment. You are AWESOME! Thank you for sharing!

I am right with you Yankee. I am so glad to have seen these guys take RUclips by the tail and show it what communing with nature is all about. I still remember Becky's first tea party. I knew the minute I watched that video that she was going to surprise the world with her fearless determination to become one with nature. Every video I see just amazes me even more. I actually think that within a year or two, David Canterbury will be wanting to interview her. I am being 100 percent serious brother! It won't be long and I will be taunting him into checking out this awesome phenomenon that is rocking the world! You mark my words my friend. He won't be able to help himself. Becky is one in a billion!

I realize this is an older video but this comment may help those who discover this great content now. We use maple mostly for tapping in Canada, a bit of advice, the sap doesn't store well, so use it within a day. I found it starts to get cloudy and ferment or whatever if let to stand. Maybe birch lasts longer.
Really enjoying working my way throught these older vids.

+Girl Outdoors .. Thanks for my first tree tapping lesson. i seen older films where maples were being tapped. In my region of the southwest US we have no trees which to tap for desirable sap. Probably will never be able to put the lesson to use. Was still most interesting to watch and learn. Looking forward to clay oven cooking and the possible kayak trip. Thanks for sharing Becky. Thanks, youtuber, Becky for clear demonstration how we can collect Mother Nature blowsome at outdoorers when about this time of year. While we can situate camp site, Maybe one of camper go out set the chestnut tree contribute campers with sap which I believe organic energy drink. Before you do fill up that tap, I presumably thought about that. And nicely done filling up crevice to where it were. Yes, It’s spring time we often have hiking or camping at outdoor, it is very practical way to keep our body fluid; hydrate. Oh, by the way when your school starts, you look weary. I can see you grabbable waist and healthy dimples. Keep it up, Becky.

very nice video, it's a real treat tapping a few trees just for fun, and the reward is so worth it eh? Try cooking some down next time and see what kind of syrup you get. Our birch and maple trees are almost ready to tap, the days aren't quite warm enough to drive the sap up and down.... yet. We hope to tap about 10 or 15 trees for syrup this year. Since it takes about 40 litres to make one litre of syrup .. it takes a lot of wood and time to cook it down.... but yeah, soooo worth it. cheers Becky. Glenn & Maureen. PS. we hope your mom feels better real soon.

Unfortunately where I live in Virginia we do not have Birch trees native to my area. We do have lots of pine so fat wood is here for fire starting. We do have maple trees so we can tap those and make maple syrup. One county over from me they have a two week maple festival. We headed to it next week.

The only part of the tree that's alive is the roots and the outside layer of the tree under the bark and the leaves.
Some people just cut a limb off and cut an x in a water bottle cap and slide it over the limb and they do several limbs to have more to drink.
But all your video's are great.

Its actually more beneficial to the tree to leave the hole in the tree and for the tree to heal itself, putting a foreign object back in the hole can cause the tree to rot on the inside or contaminate it, you may not realize it tho untill you cut the tree down..i have seen several maple trees rot inside from being plugged.. so its better to let it heal itself...enjoy your videos and your amazing person. Good luck with future videos and endeavors, keep up the good work.

Great video! I have a couple questions, can you warm up the sap before drinking and how do you sanitizer you eating utensils? Thank you for sharing another sweet video. Hope your mom is feeling better.

Thank you, i am not sure about warming up sap, i know when you boil it, it can turn to syrup but i reckon its possible. I boil hot water and wash my plate etc with that a cloth. Thanks again :)

Thanks for your reply. I was just thinking it might be nice warm drink on a cool morning. I figured you would use moss or sand. Hot water is definitely the first call. Keep the great videos coming.
