What pastor Sam says is right. when fear creeps in it contaminants the believers faith. "For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind." Yes fear is a spiritual thing which acts just opposite to faith ,so first a believer has to believe that he has received the Holy spirit who is not timid spirit but the spirit of courage. So What is the remedy to overcome fear ? 1) speak the word of god unto your circumstances "We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak". 2 cor 4:13 2) we are of God " You are of God, little children, and have overcome them; because greater is he who is in you than he who is in the world." 1 John 4:4. Why satan couldnt touch Job's skin and flesh at the very first instance itself. Is there any reference in the first chapter that Job feared for his property and children's life. And in the second chapter he feared for losing his health???.did he fear separate separately?? Job was passing thru a trial of faith . FEAR HAD NOTHING TO WITH JOB's tragedy. Yes job said the thing that i feared came upon me. But later he repented for speaking foolishly. It's not Job's confession of double portion did brought him the double portion . Was he confessing ' I will have double portion ' ' I receive it ' No job was talking about the sweet bye and bye ' oh my redeemer is alive . I how I am longing for that day I will see him that last day when he will appear. May be He was all the time singing songs about heaven . But God without his any positive confession blessed him in double measure.
What he feared might have come upon him. But what came upon him is not because of his fears. God says without cause. Satan was accusing that Job was a fake. But God and Job proved Satan was wrong. ALLELUIAH.
Hebrews 5:7 Lord jesus was heard(by his father) because he FEARED IT IS A GOOD THING TO FEAR GOD AND SACRIFICE AND KEEP YOUR FAMILY CLEAN. ITS A GODLY FEAR. If fear was the cause of job's DESTRUCTION then i think the conversation in chapter 1 may have been like this. Job 1:7 And the Lord said unto satan Whence comest thou. Then satan answered the Lord and said From destroying Job. Job 1:8 Then the Lord said unto satan. How did you cross my fence and touch him. Satan said Job's fear pulled down the hedge.
Mam, you are confusing "Godly fear" with the "fear of sin's power and Biblical characters Prudential view on it". Pastor is taking his stand against the second one.
I am saying Job's fear was a Godly fear. God himself testifies that Job feared God and eschewed evil. That Godly fear caused him to sacrifice and keep himself clean.
