    I've done two partial rebuilds on these things. Its surprising how many tiny parts are inside.
    The tail fin/backpack section was loose 40 years ago. The only thing that kept them in place in robot mode was the fast pack booster rockets.

    I find with Jetfire, the paint is more likely to react with retrobrite if the clear coat is worn off

    • @MisterBobot
      @MisterBobot  Год назад

      I think you're right... The tape adhesive and the hydrogen peroxide made a really bad combination.

    The vertical stabilizers aren’t supposed to stick straight up and down. There’s a nub that LOOKS like a stop… it’s not. Click the stabilizers past it and they stay in place. See the real life F-14 tomcat (or even the VF-1 from Macross) for reference. 😊.
    By the way, love this restoration. I just found your channel and will watching more!

    • @MisterBobot
      @MisterBobot  Год назад +1

      Thank you! Glad you're enjoying the channel. Yes, I did notice those "nub" things and tried to use them when I first got the toy but everything was so worn that they didn't hold very well at all. Maybe I could try a different type of repair w/ the nubs so the stabilizers have to correct position and look... possibly resin. Thanks. :)

    Did the paint on the chest feel off and did you repaint the wings?

    • @MisterBobot
      @MisterBobot  Год назад

      Yes, some of the paint on the chest came off due to the tape adhesive and hydrogen peroxide combining. The wings were fine b/c I didn't tape anything off on them. So, lesson learned on my part. I'm fixing the paint on the chest and should be completing this restoration soon for part two. Thanks for the comment! :)

      @@MisterBobot Hey Mr B, you mentioned there about lesson learned: What could you have done differently there to try and fix the yellowing without damaging the colour? I've got a really yellowed R2D2 clock (think it was a PEPSI mail away promotional item when Episode 1 came out), that I've been thinking about trying to restore to it's original colour, but I don't want to end up having to repaint all the blue bits blue.

    • @MisterBobot
      @MisterBobot  2 месяца назад

      @@MrThunderwing Hi Thunderwing! The mistake I made was taping off the painted parts on the chest. I believe the adhesive from the tape and the hydrogen peroxide damaged some of the paint, so I had to go back and re-paint everything. For your clock I would recommend not taping and applying the HP very carefully. Maybe do a test spot first to try it out. There's always risks to restorations but go slow and test it out first. For my Jetfire restoration, all the other painted parts on the toy, other than the chest, were not damaged by the retro-brightening b/c I eliminated the tape.
