- How did you spend your quarantine? Jimmy Buffett asked the fans to tell him which songs, not in his usual repertoire, would they like to hear? Within minutes, over 10,000 tracks were requested. Some songs he had to re-learn as it's been so long since he played them! Directed by Jimmy's daughter, Delaney Buffett, the docuseries is an inside look of the stories and inspirations of the songs.
The series has become a fan favorite which of course evolved into recording his favorites with producer/bandmate Mac McAnally and Coral Reefers Peter Mayer and Eric Darken. Available at: smarturl.it/SYDKBH
This might have been the first time I ever saw a television in my life! We didn't have electrickery on our boat.
I am thrilled to be immortalized via Buffett .
Such a cool story about you and Mishka!
Wow! So cool to have you here! What a story of you and Jimmy. He sounded really fond of you.
was researching the song today. GREAT story. little did i know i would end up reading from Magnus who clearly made an impression on Jimmy. you are immortalized by Jimmy Buffett. and quite a great song!
This is the first time I have ever heard him explain where a song was inspired. Because you and your parents were generous and nice.
Luv this whole series. Can you imagine being home schooled on a boat with jimmy buffet?? What an amazing beginning.
I loved this song when i first discovered it, and then my orbit circled back around to it when i had grandchildren. Then it became a story for them. That's when it became absolute magic for me.
I can only hope that Jimmy is getting to have a beer, and catching monster fish from his eternal boat today, someplace in heaven that resembes the Caribbean 50 years ago.
Godspeed, fair winds and tight lines my friend.
Good
My wife and I with our young daughter and son sailed from St. Marteen to St. Barts. After checking in with Customs at Gustavia, we anchored at Bay Colombier. This song brings back so many fabulous memories. I cry like a baby every time I hear it.
For about 8 weeks in the later part of 1978, I was just 22 and "loaned out" from a rack jobber to ABC Records to shadow Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Reefer Band. The rack jobber requested me to "lose my ponytail and beard" so as to make a good impression with the Jimmy Buffet entourage; the request fell on deaf ears. I learned so much in the 6-8 weeks from Jimmy Buffett and his promotional and marketing people. I officially became a 🦜 Parrothead for life in 1978. Someone from the band had me buy a lime green Official Parrothead Caribbean shirt, made of 100% Tencel, size 4X, the only size left. In 1978 I was 6'8"/165 lbs.
It looked like I was wearing a tent. Now at 67, and 285 lbs, the shirt fits me well and it has held up a lot better than its owner. Chanson Pour Les Petits Enfants was my children's favorite bed time (mine too) song to sing them to sleep.
The song, the shirt and I have all weathered the years quite well.
Merci Jimmy Buffett.
Wow!! You lucky dog. 🤩
This is my FAVE Jimmy Buffett song. His young daughter came out on stage, dancing around, to this song only. 🥰
He also brought out his friend, Waylon Jennings, so the whole audience could embarrass him by singing Happy Birthday. 😆 🤣 🥳
Austin Texas was FULL of Parrotheads that wonderful night in the early 80's. 🦜
My h.s. friend repaired Jimmy's sails every winter/off-season. He was gutted when Jimmy passed. ⛵️
R.I.P. dear man!! And THANK YOU for all the memories & music you've left SO MANY people!! 💞
Delaney, thank you so much for the vision to do this with your dad. My father and I have been writing his life story over the past couple of years. It's been so special to hear his life through his stories and have that time together. I love that you've done that here and have this time treasured away in your heart to carry you through the missingness. Sending
Oh Delaney, this is really wonderful. I'm a sailor, and love hearing the details of where he went, what he sailed, and who he was with and met. So special. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Me too
I am still in tears
My name is Rose Ann Felice. Love love
The backstory of this amazing song is as great as the song itself. What an absolutely amazing life Jimmy led, as shown by his music. So incredibly sad😢 you've sailed on to your cheeseburger & boat drinks in paradise. Have one of those drinks ready for me, Jimmy, and we'll sing this one together when I arrive as well. Thank you.
Years back while camped in our fifth wheel in Florida on the Panhandle Rosie and I met a couple that were camped nearby. They were sitting at a small table and had a bottle of wine as my memory recalls. I told Rosie I was going over and play them a song. I took my guitar over and sang a Leon Russell song called "A song for You". After the song we all chatted and ate oysters. The fellow said he had bought a sailboat from Jimmy Buffett. I always thought it was a pretty good story and hope it was true! Love these clips Delaney. Burlington Bill here busking on the road and on You Tube.
Wow, Jimmy really did live the "Jimmy Buffett" life. So many great stories and songs. Miss him.
I came to love this song because a singer-songwriter friend of mine (Paul Hayward) used to play it. I maybe only knew it was a Buffett song because he said it was, but sometimes he’d ask what I wanted to hear and more than once I said, “That French song”! 🤷🏽♂️
Thank you for all of the amazing music and memories Jimmy, and thank you Delaney for these interviews … I just stumbled upon them and am going to watch them all!! Rest in peace Jimmy 🙏🏽
Wow! Such a wonderful channel. I first saw Jimmy Buffett in the early 70’s at a concert on the lawn of the student center at the University of Florida. He drew everyone in with his playful irreverence and colorful songs. Through time he has never lost his spark. He is as good as ever.
In these videos we get a glimpse from s new perspective into this brilliant mind. Jimmy Buffett is not just a great singer and songwriter. He’s a cultural icon whose spirit will live along with his songs forever. Thank you sir for sharing this with us
I was lucky enough to meet Jim and chat with him a few times in my life. Truly one of the most down to earth, kindhearted people I've ever met. I got a chance to jam with him on Block Island years ago. He never let his fame get to him like most celebrities do. Very humble, had the best sense of humor. We miss you in Rhode Island James!
Keep Jimmy in your heart for a while. He'll always love everybody, when all is said and done. Hold him in your thoughts. Take him to your dreams. When the winter comes, keep the fires lit. Keep him in your heart for a while.
Zevon fan? 😁🐺❤️🍑
Just the best memories of listening to this song and that album while traveling Northern California in my childhood with my mom and step dad back in the early 80s. An old Honda cvcc, windows down, summer days, and just the warm joy of youth. Thank you forever jimmy buffet for that gift.
I saw him play this live at Merriweather in Columbia MD and I burst into tears. Love this song. Way back in the mid 90's
I sure wish that he would have done an in depth video biography of all these stories and the making of his albums. I could listen to him talk all day about the places he’s been
Un petit bijou...and he still remembers the six VHS movies! A Man for All Seasons
Delaney, thank you so much for putting these videos together. They are treasure. Absolutely delicious.
Thanks again so much. Your dad changed the world for the better.
He taught me so much about living and dying I will always be grateful and am a better human with much credit to your dad.
Parrot Heads vs. Trumptards is the battle our society needs to have.
I am so sorry for your loss on a personal level.
He left the world a better and kinder place.
Thank you for these stories. They are Pirate Treasure.
💯 ❤
Fair winds and following seas Capt. Buffett your songs have been my tonic in my chart room on every voyage. We will surly meet when I make port.
We miss you Jimmy FINS UP PIRATE KING
A beautiful story of child wonder behind a beautiful song. Love this.
A WONDERFUL, MAGICAL SONG
One of my all time favorites of Jimmy's. The backstory is really nice, and that Guild 12-string just blasts out the tune!
😎 ❤ This is my FAVE Jimmy Buffett song. His young daughter came out on stage, dancing around, to this song only. 🥰
He also brought out Waylon Jennings so the whole audience could embarrass him by singing Happy Birthday. The Drum in Austin was FULL of Parrotheads!! 🦜 (early 80's)
My h.s. friend repaired Jimmy's sails every winter/off-season. He was gutted when Jimmy passed. ⛵️
R.I.P. dear man!! And THANK YOU for all the memories & music you've left SO MANY people!! 💞
These videos are an absolute delight. Jimmy was my first concert at age 16 and I've been in love with his music ever since. It is so lovely to hear the stories behind the songs. What a treasure!
"The Man Who Would Be King".... one of my all time favorites.

Wonderful story about the children in the boat ⛵
This happens to be my favorite song by Jimmy! ❤❤❤
One of Jimmy's most heart-touching songs. Great backstory. Good work, Delaney!
I have always loved this song but I never knew the story behind it. What a great back story for a beautiful song!
My granddaughter is named after you Delaney thank you
Such a charming little song, made even more charming by Jimmy ❤
He was just an incredible human being.
RIP Jimmy Buffett, ya bought us lots of happiness
What an intelligent man.
That's so funny -- Jimmy is talking about the old 3/4 inch U-Matic video tapes! They were huge!!
I was wondering if someone would recognize the 3/4 Inch tape and U-Matic player!
Believe it or not, virtually every local TV station in the US still has at least one U-Matic and a storage room full of hundreds of 3/4 inch tapes. Most "File Video" run in newscasts from the mid 70s to the mid 90s has been digitized from those tapes (which were used to archive video for two decades).
My station has just finally gotten around to digitizing our archives from 1980 to 1990. Around 2000 3/4 inch tapes that required a semi truck to haul away.
Jimmy wasn't lying! They are big and bulky. 6 of them would take up the space of a modern home microwave.
Love the man's story telling.
I have always loved this song.
Thank You Delaney
What a beautiful life he lived. To the fullest 😊
Yes-but gone too soon!! 💝
The man who would be king!!!

Me Too! ❤ a precious song.
I had only heard it for the first time a few weeks ago. 😢
Jimmy ❤One of a kind. Fair Winds. Thanks for the Joy you shared with all of us. Fly High Jimmy ❤
It's my favorite as well because Jimmy had the gift of relating a story to real life,,,,for example when he talks about the Wizard of Oz movie with child he met in this song. It touches the heart.
Love this entire project. Thanks Delaney❤
Thank you Delaney for doing this wonderful project and capturing these songs and stories for everyone! 💜

These little snippets bring me back to my high school days in New Jersey and seeing Jimmy at the Garden State Art Center in Homdel…. A long, long time ago and 10,000 plus miles away….
This song I put in my head so long ago I could sing it to my second son. He would go to sleep, not hearing Jimmy, because I couldn't play it in their room, but from me. I will sing it to my only grandson before I go. His name is Indigo. Thank you et merci, Jimmy. Une Bonne Chanson Ne Meurt Jamais. I hate modern French! Instead, Vivre pour toujours, belle chanson.
It’s a Mad Mad Mad World - Spencer Tracy and the W! Best movie and best artist.

Funny it’s you
Love ✨✨🌟✨
Nice hat!
@jimmybuffettoffical. I've been a fan for a long time. My whole crew had tickets for the concert in San Diego in 2004 when 2 of us had our 40th birthday. My fire department crew was my family and we were looking forward to a pirate looks at 40. Unfortunately the concert got rained out. One question I've always wanted to ask Jimmy is why did he put the Hemisphere Dancer on the hard? Being the romantic spirit that he is, why didn't he sell her so she could continue her journey on the water and in the air? I also wanted to let you know you were the reason I learned to sail and somewhat play the guitar. I had a sailboat in San Diego for many years. Thank you for all the years of great music and being a big part of my life!
I’ve always loved this song! Thank you for the story behind it. ❤️
One of my all time favorites ❤️
Yesss
This video made my day, thanks
BZ!!
So say Capn Calico of Dabob Bay
Delaney help I am out of songs now please keep this going please Jimmy
Thanks from Australia Buffers, we used to work the back deck in the Gulf of Carpentaria in the early 80's wearing leopard skin jockey shorts with your stuff and zappa blaring over out deck speaker. Mate you've got no idea how many gun fights you provided a soundtrack while we shot the buggery out of illegal Taiwanese trawlers. Thanks from all the deck rats from Karumba and Bartalumba Bay!
I’m always late, but thank you both for sharing! This is the only way I travel now is through you haha! Vision is wicked, but did read all of your books first. 😎
She does a superb job !!!! What is the hat Jimmy is wearing?
It’s a North Sails hat.
