I love it. The bass/drums are on point. This was always my favorite MK select theme. MK2 was also the game that turned me away from Street Fighter as my favorite fighting game for good.

2KILLAVILLE I knew what you were talking about. Maybe I should've word it better. My opinion I prefer arcade version. But yes SNES was good too. I had that as well.
Cool characters, that legit martial arts music, great background stages, the fatalities, friendships, special moves... everything was cool except for playing it lol. Early attempts at this style of game though paved the way for some incredible fighter games later.
This is true! However, it was a much improved version of MK1's clunky gameplay haha
The sounds/music and aesthetic of MK2 are what really sold me on the lore!
Regardless, you're right; it really set the precedent for future fighting games of its kind!

Of the live motion capture games, 2 was the best.
This isn't motion capture, you would only see the moves from the actor or actress, being used as animations on 3D computer models if that were the case. These characters were created by videotaping real people dressed up like them, and digitizing them into the game.

This is unrelated, but I'll ask if you watched He-Man and She-Ra from the 80's.

@@eurke If you remember Hordak from the original She-Ra cartoon from the 80's, you might find that he and Shao Kahn are similar. Why? They're both conquerors who raised princesses to be their henchwomen and they were eventually betrayed by them.
I had to do a bit of a refresher on Hordak; but after like a second, it came back to me. That's a great point!
Shao Kahn was also a powerful and competent commander like Hordak; until MK11 unfortunately...
@@eurke At least MK11 Aftermath did let Shao Kahn score some wins. He briefly reclaimed whatever was left of his men and joined the final assault against Kronika until Shang Tsung killed him.
Ya, I really liked Aftermath's focus on the villains!
And while I doubt it will happen, I am really hoping for an Aftermath Part. 2.
Havik and Hotaru can continue with Shang's ending; and MK12 can pickup from Liu's Ending.
BUT...we'll see what happens I guess 🧐

The new MKs just don't have memorable themes anymore.
I have to agree.
The composers of the new games do a great job; but MK has lost that feel and atmosphere that really made the games memorable.

I don't contribute often but I feel like if there's ONE MK that should have sound swaps of any sort from music (especially fatality tone - and darkness) bones hitting floor and look blood splatter screams, gurgles voice overs music (Wateland/Pit ya even the iconic story screen) etc. sound Shao Kahn voice recordings that were even reused in later revisions of umk3 mixed with new recordings already there new content was added just weird .. and how these devs jump from that ding ding ding fatality tone to that mk3 one ughhh. mk1.is,krig mk2 is iconic to many and it's,evident why and who aside from missing blood soem things like stage,fatalities,who doesn't appreciate the baby basher version 2.1. I do appreciate that friendships and bababalities only exist due to the whole esrb committee they're responsible for and although pretty cheesy looking fabled lore became reality in mk3 animality form.. I could go on forever and I'm sure many feel that way.. I'm off topic but I'm branching outward and, admittedly, a bit much. but that passion for MK thsi lives within so many is amazing I'm 40 many are my around my age. I wis the jamma had enough memory on it to program a more apprproptiate AI on arcade when set for Free Play so single player would be more entertaining instead,of robotic to beat the quarter munching system since it's not exactly easy to find human players since the days,of the true arcade are behind us.. MK2 in its pure form is so specisl imo from the classic series . I understand that not everyone will agree. I also honestly understand (not believe) but truly believe that many will agree likely a close split-decision in this one. better than in most cases on the internet with many imvolved .. that said I did favorite your vid years ago I thought there was more than the select screen . it's hard to tell if it's changed or remastered because I honestly think I ssw it once and moved on maybe 5 yts ago. either way I don't believe it wouldn't skundbe better to "my " ear" either way .. now,you want to ALTER OTHERS such as MK3 then do it up in fact you likely have done and shown so much more than this all thinks MK. My YT feed is what reminded me of your efforts. Any effort is praise-worthy so this in no way a knock on you. Excellent job ("Excellent" as Shao Kahn days in the MK2 Arcade of course, heh) I'll dig deeper bc that vid is 6yrs old now I'm sure there's more may have bee then. Again, this was my opinion nothing more not meant to offend anyone and credit given where it's due. Thanks for doing what you do. I'm certain I liked, subbed and archived this back then due to you contributing to MK 'Klassics' yet you know how these things go your scrolling there's so much info you tuck it aside but keep on going.. one quick edit .. I'm a crt purist and do scanline filters look the part therefore aren't also with the overlay lag. in still frame I saw,still bc I'm only seeing a character select that is idle in this vid which as I said is as far as I,have gotten it looks,pretty good for an overlay . not crt good but let's be honest we're comparing a ray gun aperture grill and phosphors to cheaper mass produced and convenient to maneuver flatscreens.
Certainly no fault of yours. Again the scanline are definitely on the higher end and I'm not much of a fan of the filter effects. So kudos to that. It prob on display in motion and I don't even know it yet. we'll that's all.

Steve Ritchie's Shao kahn voice was so iconic, I really hoped they would have done a Klassic voice announcer for MK11. The MK2 SFX; along with the music, easily make that game my favourite. The blood drops, the gurgling noises, the screams, Reptile's Forceball, Johnny Cage's Green ball, etc... So many!
Regardless of using a M.A.M.E version quality; I added the scan lines afterwards, as it seemed to clean up the vid and also add nostalgia. Normally I would use them, but they do add something to these old games!
