I bought Dragonbane based on your videos. Long time D&D player ( 50 years) but when I brought this to my wife she loved the Mallard Kin and was excited to play our first session is this weekend and I want to thank you for great work and wish you all the best Thanks more Dragonbane please !!!
oh wow! That's awesome! What has been the biggest appeal for you about the game? (I too am a fan of the Mallard Kin - and when I do my solo play video, that's what I'll be playing as).
@@gamemasters the new take to RPG, as I've tried to get my wife into it and after trying Basic Fantasy and 1st edition of D&D I loved your vid I thought it would work for my solo play as well can't wait for the solo play vid as I have not tried that as of yet .
it really is a very wicked fun game. I love the simplistic mechanics, and while they are simplistic, there is also the perfect amount of crunch in it as well. Be sure to report back after you've played a few sessions, I'd love to hear your take on it (might be best to chat about it in my discord tho, sometimes youtube comments get buried).
One slight correction, you actually get to do only one *of each* free action. So you can shout, draw a weapon and still go prone on the same turn but you can't stand up and then go prone.
I've got to correct you on this one; this is exactly what I said (direct from the transcript): _FREE ACTIONS are.. more or less.. minor actions, drawing your weapons, dropping to the ground.. dropping an item.. even shouting are all things you can do that won't burn you main action, but you can only perform one free action._ This is direct from the rules : _Free actions do not count as your action in the round but you can only perform one of each type per round, and only on your own turn. For example, you can drop down or get up on your turn, but not both_ Key element there is "one of each type per round" meaning that you can perform one free action and one action (or one reaction). Even their _for example_ cites two possible free actions that are examples of what free actions might could exist in that situation and it follows that up with _but not both_ meaning you cannot perform more than one free action on your turn. You don't choose to go prone as a free action or as an action either. Being prone is something that happens to you, a situation you find yourself in. Attacks made against you are rolled with a boon and you'll take an extra d6 damage (likewise if you are attacking a target that has been knocked prone, you'll roll with a boon and inflict an extra d6 in damage). I mean.. I suppose you could attempt to knock yourself prone if you wanted.. but.. I'd consider that a full on action.
@@gamemasters Respectfully have to disagree. Since 1.that section in particular is about free actions, 2. it's already been stated earlier in the paragraph that these are separate from the one capital A Action you get and 3. free actions are categorized into different types of actions, it's fairly clear that the "one of each type" bit is talking about each type of free action. Like for example "Switch/Change Position"(sorry i only have the swedish version) which lets you either throw yourself prone on the ground or stand up. One type of free action that lets you do one of two things, but not both, on your turn.
it's just very... simple and clean. Cypher has a touch of crunch with it, but not any moreso than 2e had and it's also super easy to learn. I like the concept behind Dragonbane, but when I do the solo-play video, this entire series will come into focus as I'll show every bit of it in practice.
@@gamemasters for sure, in one of our encounters the party met up with 2 giant scorpions, instead of combat one pc used a spell stone to be able to talk with them, convinced them to attack the larger enemy, and basically made friends with them.... creative thinking so they dont die from one encounter :)
yup. I mean.. you _could_ do something similar in d&d I guess.. but.. I just like the concept behind Dragonbane, so I'm really exploring what all it offers up.

I've also been peer pressured to prep a one shot because of those Mallards. Ffs XD
You inspired me to buy the box set and I'm DEVOURING it. Can't wait to play! Thanks for such a great video on the combat. More Dragonbane!

Thats a very kool system...
I still prefer Cypher... but without a doubt, I can see the amazing design in this system!

Heck yeah Dragonbane!!
Super fun game!
Cool
Interesting and deadly
it can be... :)
Oh hey here it is 🎉
yup! here it is! :)
lol i ask my players that with every encounter...are you sure you wanna go there? yepp our game is a touch deadly :)
i think on of the biggest reasons I like Dragonbane is that even in combat there is a major element of roleplaying.
