Haha, that was a smart way to get views. By the clickbait, i mean. While simultaneously catching the interest of real players wanting to learn. Saying Zen isn't THAT good is for sure not true, and yet you're 100% making valid statements on what he can improve on. I guess the statement holds true when you compare him to what he could be or against others at the same rank, rather than comparing him to other players at normal ssl or even gc. Even i, who doesn't really do replay analysis, have sat there in awe of zens mechanical genius while also thinking, why the hell did he go for that? And as i watch the outcome of his shot getting defended or he just misses, it goes to show that maybe he should've been patient and maybe looked at his opponents. When watching his gameplay, i realise how far away we are from the true ceiling of skill in this game. Thank you for making this video. You got a new sub :3
To an extent you are right that certain plays could've been executed better (team-wise that is) whether they had to do with positioning, rotation etc. Obviously there is and always will be an unchecked area left to improve on as a player, not just for Zen but for everyone really, we are a long way in reaching the absolute skill-ceiling of this game, and that's the beauty of it. But that set aside, Zen, just like every other pro out there, all have different traits engraved uniquely in their playstyle that mark them as "pros" and sort of seperate them from the ordinary. Zen is a prime example of such, i mean yeah, sure, one could argue he isn't the most bright-minded one like you did and he'd be right (albeit to his credit it's challenging to analyze the best possible outcome with all the in-game pressure you're constantly receiving, especially at his demanding lobbies too). But what he cannot disregard is the fact that Zen, though quite rash oftentimes, shines in other aspects of the game, more mechanically-reliant ones. That's why the way he just abruptly acts out on many scenarios may seem a bit off-putting or straight up wrong to many at first, but then they'd most likely be proven completely wrong by his mechanical ingenuity, that is his defining characteristic, after all, through that he paved his way to success and that's undeniable, no matter how unorthodox of a style it may seem, it worked, just like how other pros did so following a different strategy this time i guess. All in all great, informative vid man, i hope people were able to learn some stuff and not directly jump into conclusions surrounding your work here.
A couple of minutes in to the video you make really valid points although nit picky but still true,. The ways pros play at least in my eyes are heavily mechanically reliant to a degree (just my opinion dont bully :( ) That makes some pros kinda reject clean opposite side rotatation and they take more risky plays that they can somewhat bail themselves out of just because of how mechanically consistent they are. On the topic of how consistent they are pros sometimes play for the best option and when it doesnt work out they kind of screw themselves over. Also I noticed that some pros even at the level they are at still don't use pads as good as they should be. Sometimes I would catch zen with zero boost. Some say "well hes gotten comfortable defending with zero boost" Idc how comfy your are, it just isn't favorable. And lastly sometimes I think pros over complicate some situations but its just my opinion. But in the end maybe my takes are wrong (they probably are) and pros are just playing a different game than us. I am not opposed to that being the case. Also don't shame this guy for giving his input. Pro or not. He makes it clear that zen isn't shit as he did say zen is in his top 5 i think in the beginning. On the big stage pros are bound to tunnel vision and in the moment not make the best decision but that doesn't mean that his input is bad.
really appreciate this input, you are absolutely right & or on the right path for some of your points. sometimes, being mechanically reliant absolutely can hinder a player as they force themselves into situations in where to get the full value of what they’re looking for they need to execute flawlessly, or risk losing most if not ALL the value from their play. using unnecessary boost in ANY situation is definitely inefficient, and adding lack of proper padding on top of that only exacerbates the issue, leaving some absolutely in a poor position & or forcing themselves out of the play to replenish oftentimes missing equalizing or even plain scoring situations. thank you for your kind words :)
also yes, i say later in the video that these players are NOT BAD. they are the best in the game but i feel like people see them on the big stage or see some mechanics and immediately equate that to being one of the best instead of properly understanding the fundamentals of their gameplay, leading to misunderstandings and unnecessary glorification causing some to throw a blind eye to the flaws they have

This is bad, what you would've done doesn't matter cause you're not even close to a pro in any metric so what you would've done doesn't matter, Zen is playing pros you are not. Also so much of this uses the boost indicator like he can see the opponent's boost. He can't he has to estimate his much boost they have and play off of that. This comes off like you don't understand the game and try and act like you don't have the available information that Zen doesn't have.
