Have had an LC500 since 2020 after having the same debate. No regret what-so-ever. Especially with a plan of keeping it for a longer time. Yearly dealer visits are below 400$ and I know total cost after 10 years will be lower. And that sound......
Great review folks! The LC500 what an amazing hidden gem within the Lexus line up. It is an absolute bargain especially with that naturally aspirated engine. That V8 is King and as for gas mileage? Who cares!! Drill baby drill 😂 The M850i is nice but the Turbo probably brute power…unlike LC500 probably runs like a large sewing machine.
One thing you need to consider is reliability and price depreciation. Also, specialness, at this price point. Lexus wins with all of those, and also I prefer the Lexus drive more on regular roads. It's much more than fast enough.
Yep, literally the only things it has on the BMW. The BMW smokes the Lexus in just about everything else. Specialness? Meaning it's rare because it doesn't sell.
@@DaGoook You guys have got to stop thinking that your vantage point is everyone else's. The North Dallas area and it's suburbs, Frisco, Plano, Prosper, are full of expensive GT cars. The Dallas North Tollway is clogged with expensive cars and suvs on any given evening. So is the Long Island Expressway. So yeah I see plenty of 100K GTs.
@@MercOneI agree. It depends on where you live. I’m in metro Atlanta. GT’s, coupes & convertibles are still common here. The 8 Series is common traffic in wealthy areas. The LC…not so much. It just wasn’t a popular pick, and this video explained why. Although the LC does look more special, it’s just not a better car than the 8.
I would judge you for taking the BMW, which is just a repair bill waiting to happen. You are not doing the entire car owner experience, just a one time drive. Any new car can be great. It's 5 years from now - which car do you want? The Lexus every day and twice on Sundays.
Flash! There is no comparison unless you're a billionaire and don't mind paying for repairs...through the nose. You will probably need a wheel bearing with one of these two cars and it will cost $750. The other car will just keep running perfectly for years and years. You will undoubtedly need to replace a cheaply made electrical relay in one of these cars. The other car, not. Then, there's the looks. One of these cars is a work of art. One isn't. If you have trouble figuring out which car is which, that indicates your I.Q. more than anything else. But, the most important thing is YOU GET TO CHOOSE.
Why on God's Green Earth were either of these cars on DIRT roads?!?! I literally gasped. 😀 Both cars are awesome, but have different missions in my opinion and are hard to compare. It depends on what the buyer is looking for... Super Sport all day every day in the Bimmer or Super GT in the Lexus? It's nice to have options, thanks for posting!
These are the exact two cars I compared before making my choice. The lack of torque and dated infotainment is why the Lexus lost out to the BMW in my garage. I also felt it had a much less premium feel sharing many components with my wife's IS 250. Compare the headlight controls, the door controls, the seat memory etc, and the BMW interior smokes the Lexus every day.
I think you mean the BMW interior gets smoked by the Lexus interior every day... it's not even close. That copy pasted BMW interior (and exterior for that matter) is in every one of their cars, has low grade materials and build quality on top of wearing poorly. BMW does have the best infotainment in the business though- 2nd to none. The overwhelming majority of that LC500 interior is wholly unique to the care, so the couple parts you're comparing to the IS250 are way overblown. The seats and ride quality in the LC are much more comfortable than the M8s.
I got the BMW M550 which is very close to M850, and while the interior is OK, but lets get real, that Lexus interior and exterior puts the M850 to shame.
If you lived entirely on a track then the BMW is the choice but for those of us who live in the real world and have to deal withtrials and tribulations the Lexus is the choice. For looks its entirely subjective but I like the Lexus. For reliability everyone know the Lexus is the choice. For driving dynamics then the BMW.
I own the BMW M550i and this car is a blast to drive. I was eyeing the 2024 AMG GT, but the LC500 is growing on me. I may submit the bestook order in Mica Blue. I believe in the next 10 years the LC 500 might be a collectable who knows.
nice job on your review! What is your thoughts on comparison on the convertibles? Also one thing I would like to see in car reviews is getting in and out. Also passenger comfort. Never get a good idea of what the leg and knee room for your passenger. I agree the infotainment system has a NO for me on the Lexus as so many reviews do not like it. Glad to hear they are updating 2024.
BMW is more valuable to people who only care about raw performance, however the M850i isn't even a great example of that. Yes, it's a powerful car but it's a lesser version of the M8 and specsheet chasers don't typically go for the "lesser model". The only people going for the m850i are the ones who can barely afford it/can't swing the M8. The M8 sales in general are weak and most people who want pure performance would be getting an M4 over this anyway. BMW copy pastes the exterior and interior across their lineup (all your money is in the drivetrain) while the LC500 is unique inside and out, has a vastly superior exhaust note and with far better build and material quality.

Did you try the bmw?

LOL you cold Louis.
Lease the BMW. Buy the Lexus.

The bmw interior is ugly.
BMW nicer looking than Lexus ?? 500, Lexus looks like a super car, Bmw?
Bmw. Unreliable junk.
lc 500 all the way !!!
Looks like the 2024 M850I still uses the same system instead of the twin screen.

Yeah I'm just curious about total cost of ownership over a 10 year horizon. Isn't Lexus going to win that hands down?

That BMW shaped like a Mustang

These cars will be leased. The BMW is more desirable.
