I love this game. I played a bit if the remaster (10-15 hours) and I can safely say I'm happy to take a hit on graphics for the jump in immersion. Well done Bethesda. This remaster has me hooked.
I liked Skyrim on a TV, I finished it, but I had no desire to play all the quest. I think I logged 20-30 hours. With VR, I want to do everything, see everything, experience it all. It's so much better than I imagined.
If anyone is on the fence about this. Videos on RUclips do absolutely no justice at all. The opening scene, on the cart with ulfric is honstely something I'll remember forever. I went into vr with the expectations of getting blown away and even that didn't prepare me for how incredible this experience is. Get off that fence and buy it
I play with a DS4, and I'm sorry, but this game is insane in VR especially when a dragon ambushes you, it's as if a dragon is really attacking you, look up to see it soaring and hear it's terrifying roar tear through the sky.
Anyone who follows Bethesda closely would have remembered Todd Howard say that the next Elder Scroll will be different but the technology is not there yet. Guys, Skyrim is there VR lab. Once they work out the kinks and consoles can push high res graphics on a vr headset, then the next Elder scroll will come. My guess.
Playing this with the Move controllers and absolutely loving it. Once you get used to the controls it works quite good. Sure there are some small hiccups now and then but the immersion more than makes up for it. Firing bow and arrow is awesome. This and The Solus Project show that even with the limitations of the Move, if a developer makes an effort the game can really be controlled with moves in full locomotion. And Skyrim is just awesome
Not everyone realizes what a step forward this kind of game being able to have full locomotion with direct movement and gradual turning is. The motion controls have the ability to help you feel fully immersed with dual wielding and the ability to look in two different directions and fight enemies in multiple directions at one time. This game is truly an evolutionary step forward in VR and it is impressive that this evolution comes from the PlayStation VR!!!
This game isn't 'revolutionary'. It's just Skyrim for the VR. The graphics are literally sub-par, and the sound quality is still shit. Most of the enviroment (yes, i have the PRO) looks incredibly pixilated to the point that it breaks the immersion. RE:7 even looks better, and it was also ported over to the VR. lol. Don't let the hype get you. It's literally Skyrim in VR, but nothing 'spectacular' or 'revolutionary'. Those people are just hyping a sub-par product.
Vividly to each his own..... that being said you are trying to pick you’re own issues out which have nothing to do with how amazing this game is and the fact that Devs were able to make this experience full locomotion with the option to use dual shock controller makes this a must have as a PsVR owner..... as this is a game that was developed years ago I didn’t expect an extremely advanced visual presentation however being in the world of Skyrim in VR is truly incredible!!!!...... yes this game is revolutionary with the full move options with move options that keep you immersed in the world you are in so you can go kick rocks if you’re saying how dissatisfied you are with a game that is more excellent than many vr experiences. It’s fine you sound like you’re crying over nothing anyway lmao 🤣 have an excellent day!!
Dude, i'm not trying to pick my own issue. The game literally looks super pixilated and unimmersive. It's just cool to play Skyrim in VR. Not only that, yet again, the sound quality sucks. It sounds muffled and stereo. Also, yes, I do have the headphones compatible for it. I'm all for VR, but i'm not going to lie to the user base about what i see and is a common negative. The game looks blurry in the distance, some textures look really bad close up, and every single character looks like they have lifelike blocks around their face and body. If you'd like to deny it, that's fine. Go ahead and lie to promote the VR, but my ideology is to not lie about my experiences and a common issue. So may i reiterate: The game looks extremely pixilated, the sound isn't truly 3D (it sounds muffled and stereo), a lot of textures are really bad, and everything not close up is extremely blurry. It's cool to experience the game in VR, however, its a downgrade in graphics to a lot of other VR titles, so don't let people like Christopher mislead you into thinking its somehow the 'best looking, best game, best controllzz EVUR! NO cons to skyrim VR its amazing! anyone who thinks objectively is r0ng' because he's a biased fan boy. Resident Evil 7 is a prime example of a game with dramatically better graphics quality, even though its not that amazing in its own way, either. Its more like a port rather than a native look in terms of quality. Just like Skyrim. LOL
If you take the time, the Move Controllers can be great fun. But walking backwards & shooting the bow are a hassle. That is the only bad thing about them. As you mentioned, the button layout takes some time getting used to, but nothing that an hour of playing doesn't fix. We need Move Controllers with an analogue stick.
The bow just has a learning curve, I always use the bow and have gotten really good with it, it is just more difficult because you have to learn how to aim and use it unlike in 2d where u just press a button.
yeah, you cant walk backwards and aim with the bow but you can with a sword (in right hand). I miss read your comment thinking you were saying walking backwards and using bows and not waking backwards while using bows.
This game deserves to sell really well, as an example of just what is possible on psvr, its unsurpassed. This along with Resi 7 and hopefully a great upcoming port of Doom, shows the naysayers of VR, that the future is indeed bright for this platform. Now all we need is a VR Fallout 4! Cheers
Honestly guys, if you have VR, this is a must buy, especially if you've never played it before. It is so engrossing! First 10 mins after I escaped the introductory execution, I tested my hand at bow and arrow, and shot a deer from across the river. Knowing I had limited ammo and needed hide for smithing, I went to go across the river to retrieve my rewards. Unfortunately, I realised (despite the tutorial popping up as soon as I landed in the water) that I didn't know how to swim in VR (it's not quite the real thing). I then proceeded to get swept down the river to the waterfall whilst drowning. I somehow survived by being swept onto a rock and working my way through the shallow water to safety (and to my arrow and deer hide). Funniest and most anxious 5 minutes of my VR life, and it was something so simple yet out of the blue as that. That is the beauty of Skyrim, and that is especially why you should experience it in VR.
I loved this game, even before VR. But now, VR adds so much more to an already amazing game! I love being able to walk up to whatever I want, and then move my face to it and look at all the details. It's so awesome. And the combat feels so good with move controllers. I've gotten used to the controls by now, so I'm loving being able to swing my axes and swords around like no other! My biggest issue I have with it is the quality and draw distance when walking around the world of Skyrim. I hate getting to the top of a mountain and all I see is ugly ground and blur everywhere. Kind of hurts my eyes to look at. Here I was, hoping to look at all of Skyrim and it'll look nice. Disappointed in that front. But hey, it's still really really amazing and fun to play. I'm addicted to it and I'll probably put a lot of hours in. I'd give it probably a 9/10 cause of the blur and textures. But I understand why they have it how it is. (By the way, Im playing on the original ps4)
Love it Bethesda did one hell of a job, I played skyrim nearly dead in 2D but in Vr it is a hole different experience and much more fun I can't stop to play it. Now I hope we will also get Fallout Vr for PSVR.
MsUltraBob yeah the same Developer confirmed it when he accidentally confirmed move locomotion 2 weeks prior lmao. Of course he tried to backtrack on twitter. But he said what he said lmao.
I don't understand so many peoples problems with move controls it works perfectly well you get used to it after playing for about half hour only issue I personally find is harder to sneak due to a set movement speed and swimming is tiring but I still play exclusively with move and find it much more immersive
It is amazing that a game with such age can be so successfully incorporated into VR. I am eager to explore the world and all of its dungeons. I didn’t experience VR sickness until engaged in combat with the D4. No VR sickness (yet) using the Move controllers (not warping but the smooth movement). The menus can be a pain with where they appear and how npc’s can block and hamper the view. And where are my hands when the weapons are sheathed? I had hands displayed at the very beginning when they were unbound and not sense. I am confused with Sony making minut changes to the headset and yet not addressing the much needed revision of the Move controllers???
Whats really cool 2 me, is details i normally ran right by. Little details here and there. And sneaking and picking ppl off with the bow RULES now more than ever 8.5/10
Banter Board for sure bro, its awesome. I was checking out some farm and thinking dang i used to run past this and didnt even look at it, yet in VR i want to see every little detail.. not only that but you can see items alot better..trying to not steal cluttered items on an analog stick or mouse can he a pain, but using the crosshair vision is flawless and effortless. Headshots with the bow like never before! Im in love with this VR title and hopefully developers see the potential and look at titles like fallout!
Same, people that say they aren't good in the game just aren't smart enough to realise that it's them that has the problem, it's an alien control style that has to be learned, not just picked up & instantly used like every FPS cod clone game from the last 2 decades.
Hopefully we'll start to see other older first person games converted for VR. Alien: Isolation would be a good start. The game already utilised the PS camera for peaking and noise detection.
I'm loving It! I'm hoping the next PlayStation works with the vr and has clearer resolution. It's not a game breaker for me but it would be amazing! I love the free hand movement with weapons it brings a freshness to the game and problems because if you forget to put your bow up you'll end up smacking a civilian with it. I'm guilty for that. Then the first time when you take quite a fall will have your stomach upside down.
Playing it on pro, with move controllers. Sure the game shows its age but damn, what a feeling i had when i entered Riverwood !! Also, when i first been jumped by the wolves on the way, i felt surprised and scared as if it was in real life !! Move controllers are sometimes tricky but it helps the so called immersion to get finally real. All in all, i'm loving it.
I own the oculus rift and love it. Most of the time I prefer to be playing on that but with such a fantastic RPG like Skyrim, I can easily say this is one of my favorite VR experiences to date. A must buy for fans of VR and The Elder Scrolls alike. 9.5/10
Hey! I just watched your vid just to see how other gamers are experiencing this title. I agree with you all the way! I am playing with the dual shock 4, without any 'motion sickness reducing vr elements', to experience my all time favourite to the fullest extend, and although i am typing a long comment here i simply have no words... I am astonished... I waited soooo long for this game to come out in vr since Bethesda announced, and it is everything i wanted. I own almost every psvr title there is, about 35 of them, and this one absolutely breaks number 1 for me! The other 2 in my top 3 are Farpoint with the aim controller, and Resident Evil Biohazard. Thought you'd like to know, i subscribed to your channel because of this vid :). You explained every detail of need to know on this game with a good understandable voice in a not too long vid. I URGE EVERY PSVR GAMER TO BUY THIS TITLE!!! THIS IS TRULY NEXT GEN!! I wish you all a lot of vr gaming pleasure from the Netherlands :) ✌
Do you think they will patch in hands when weapons are sheathed. Or when gripping weapons. I don't even bother with armour as I can't see what I look like. Apart from that by far the best vr game. Better than residents evil and far point
i never got around to playing skyrim for more than like 1-2 hours since it's not my kind of game. but VR changes everything. gonna wait for a PC release and dive in with all sorts of mods
After a few hours, the move controllers feel completely natural much to my surprise. I figured I'd try them a bit and switch to ds4 but I have no plans of even trying ds4.
I just got the game last night and this is going to be my first ever play through of Skyrim! Not normally a fan of fantasy, but figure the vr will help bring me into this world!
Dirt Rally, Project Cars, and Elite:dangerous are technically the first AAA titles on VR. But Skyrim is a first for as a full large-scale expansive game (other than Pulsar:lost colony, which is kinda janky)(or vorpx, which is not perfect)
When I first played on PC and the dragon lands where you are as you're following Ralof through Helgen, I was like cool. When that same thing happened in VR I literally for a split second I had a gut feeling to run, like I was actually in danger. Also the wolves are huge and scary, that did no translate on my TV like it does in VR. I love my modded gorgeous Skyrim on PC, but so far seeing it in VR is really something else. If my modded PC Skyrim was in VR, I might end up homeless after missing too much work to play it.
I haven't played any of the previously released versions of Skyrim so my first foray into the world will be through PSVR. I'm excited to say the least.
No way, move controllers are the way to go. Feels much more immersive and is very comfortable to move around the world with. They did an amazing job with free movement and smooth turning.
I have recently ordered this bundle. I've never played a skyrim game nor have I ever played any game in virtual reality so needless to say I'm definitely excited. Skyrim isn't exactly one of my top genres but who knows maybe I'll end up loving it.
Having played 20+ hours with move controllers, free motion mode, no blinkers, and ca. 20 degrees snap turning, I not once experienced motion sickness (in contrast, Resident Evil VII gave me headaches in VR). Bow and arrow feel very satisfying in VR with move controllers (I'm skilling for stealth and archery) - but this requires a good camera setup (I have ca. 4 square meters free space) and you have to face the camera correctly, otherwise shooting an arrow can be very fiddly. The controls actually work so well that I'm playing on master/legendary difficulty. But there are annoying bugs, too. Swimming using move controllers, for example, can be annoying (clipping under water, drawing your weapon instead of swimming ...). And there are several bugs where your stamina keeps on draining because some poison or the bullet-time-aiming skill for the bow won't stop. And by the way, I installed Skyrim VR on an external SSD and the loading times are really short (at least compared to what I remember from my Xbox 360 version of the game). And I'm playing on PS4 pro - but I don't know if Skyrim VR is PS4 pro enhanced (yet?) and if it actually makes a difference.
The only complaint i have is you cant snipe people with bow in VR. The resolution at distance just isnt good enough yet in VR to identify targets at long ranges. But sword person and mage it is amazing!
Jonathan Score When you have an arrow pulled on your bow, hold the left trigger button. You will get a crosshair. Now I believe I had to take the “zoom” skill, but I’m not sure as I discovered this move shortly after I got the skill. That left trigger button move helps A LOT with the long shots. I accidentally discovered it.
Try using the Aura Whisper shout or one of the detect life.. ect spells. As kevin G said you can unlock cross hairs for the bow... which then branch of into slow time :) I only unlocked the cross hairs so that i could get to the slow time ability and do some VATS style shots lol
Game Informer actually gave Skyrim VR a 5/10, that's just rediculous, every other review was an 8 or better, I'm not keeping my GI subscription anymore, I want unbiased reviews.
As every other reviewer gave Skyrim VR notes from 8 to 10 those morons thought it was a good idea to stand out giving it a bad note. That's the kind of things you can expect ftom game informer...
I actually feel like the Move controllers are a great way to control the game. I always thought I would mess around with them briefly then move over to the DS4, but now that I've played for hours with them; I couldn't imagine playing any other way.
Is there an option in the settings to use one move controller paired with a navigator like during the era of Playstation 3? The navigator controller has a thumbstick, two triggers a D pad and two buttons. It would be the perfect set up for movements in Skyrim VR. I haven’t yet invested in PSVR purely because of the controllers lack of sticks. I think it’s frustrating and unacceptable.
That video is great thanks. Nice review so you got a like from me :) Sorry for the long message but I just want to have my say and express my opinions on PSVR and Skyrim VR. I’ve been so on the fence with PSVR and to a degree I still very much am even after having had it for 12 months as I am one of the unlucky ones to be affected by motion sickness. I didn’t expect it at all and was severely disappointed as PSVR truly amazed me when I first got it. That was until I played Rigs which had me feeling severely unwell within 5 minutes of playing it. I got the PSVR primarily for Resident Evil 7 and despite only playing about half of the game I did manage to build up a tolerance of sorts to VR nausea. I genuinely despise the teleporting movements as well as incremental turning used in PSVR games but they certainly help to prevent the sickness. I also bought Farpoint and again got a few hours into it and stopped playing. For the last 6 months I barely touched the headset as it gathered dust but being one of the many massive fans of Skyrim I had to buy that too. Visually I thought the game looked worse than PS3 which might be harsh but I also feel may have been partially due to me never having had the PS4 Pro and since the latest Sony console was released I’ve read countless comments on countless forums stating it improves PSVR. I expected to play Skyrim VR for about 30 minutes before I started feeling ill but my first and only session so far was just over 2 hours and I didnt stop due to nausea, which personally impressed me. I think it may have had something to do with the vignette comfort setting. I was looking forward to playing Skyrim VR with the Move controllers and although really cool, the Move controllers are seriously frustrating compared to playing the game with the DS4 controller. Normally I would loot the hell out of anything and everything but opening chests and picking up items became really tiresome using the Move controllers. The framerate in your video looks really good and as I don’t recall the game running that smooth on my PS4 Original, I assume it’s running on a PS4 Pro console? Since the purchasing Skyrim VR, Ive literally been on the verge of selling my PSVR simply because I haven’t been able to fully use it as much as I thought I would. But before I make that decision, today I bought a PS4 Pro to check how much better games might be specifically Skyrim VR. If VR games and Skyrim play look better on PS4 Pro and maybe even alleviate VR nausea I might not sell up. As I type this I’m transferring all my data from my PS4 Original to an external drive so I can swap the hard drive over and restore the backup. I’m quite looking forward to trying Skyrim VR on PS4 Pro later when it will be PSVR make or break time ...
Dude, you're doing the newbie's mistake, you're trying to get your VR legs from the first session and that usually kills anyone. To get accostumed you need short sessions, starting with 5 minute sessions, after 3 or 4 days 20 minutes and so on and of course stop in those short sessions at the most minimum simptom of kinetosis. The thing is to do it every day, just a bit, but every day to train your brain to accept the movement without acceleration. After two or three weeks you will be running and jumping on VR without any comfort setting enabled. I didn't had any problem since first day, but a friend of mine which also got the PS VR and gets dizzy just seeing a water of glass moving did this way and never had a problem. Of course there are always some bad coded games which cause problems, but those are the less, If you're handling now two hours with Skyrim I would recommend you get back to the games that made you sick (RE7 should be the "softest" one while Rigs is a hard one), maybe you will get a good surprise. Also, the Pro makes a difference on Skyrim, no frame rate drops, less blurry graphics and better view distance.
geniwab thanks for your reply. Good advice you have there. Going back to RE7 is definitely something I want to do for sure. I think I’ll use that as base to building up the tolerance with short sessions as you suggest. I also so want to see the improvements PS4 Pro makes with PSVR in RE7. I would never get motion sickness from seeing water move in a glass though. That sounds like a really extreme case with your friend. Glad to hear Skyrim VR has less blurry graphics on PS4 Pro, that was a real concern I had. I got the new console set up now so I’m gonna check out PSVR on it tomorrow. I’ll reply back and let you know what I think :)
Thanks for a review that does the game some real justice. It's amazing how many professional games journalists completely botched their coverage of this game only to prove they have little idea how VR even works. I do have to say that the dual shock 4 is NOT the way to play, in my opiniom. The archery experience with the move controllers alone makes using them a must.
Christopher Cook frame rate is a lot better (has to be for VR head turning) - but the draw distance is a lot less than Skyrim SE - VR has a lot of room to improve, but I still keep playing it. I play without the move controllers and use the visor to aim along with smooth turning on the standard controller (RE 7) style. Horse archery animation/aiming needs improvement. I am playing as an archer/destruction char because the aiming is so ridiculously accurate with the head set. I def play better with VR. You also pick up on a lot of details you missed in your 20 previous play throughs. This game has been surprising me for so many years now.
Also, you notice that the distant mountains don’t seem as distant/large in VR because of depth perception. I think VR has a lot more room to grow than the 4K - 2D market. If the VR headset had double the resolution, it would blow the 4K experience out of the water.
Thanks, I'm hopeful later down the road it'll support mods, because the mod community does a fantastic job of mixing bugs and cleaning up the textures as well as a wealth of other things. Though might need a PS4 pro to future proof the game for mod support as I doubt the standard ps4 would handle any texture mod upgrades and retain its frame rate that it needs to ensure that you keep your dinner down.
For me atleast move controllers (with teleporting disabled) is definitely the way to go, in fact for the 1st time ever in a elder scrolls game I'm playing an archer because the sense of 3d and the motion tracking make using a bow so intuitive and immersive :) . The land of Skyrim feels like it was meant to be experienced in VR. I do feel sorry for the people whose 1st VR game is Skyrim though, VR is something you need to ease into and let you mind get used to it.
Biggest issue for myself is no FOV slider. They should have learned their lesson by now especially if you’re making your game in VR. I’m talking specifically Bethesda games because they all apparently wear binoculars every damn day of their lives.
I love playing with the move controllers, but I keep having an issue where my hands arnt centered with the screen which basically makes the game unplayable. Does anyone else have this issue? Ive only fixed it by restarting the game, any tips would be appreciated, thanks.
Brandon Botham Check the compass HUD at the bottom of your view. The compass stays centered on the camera, so if you keep checking it, you should remain centered more consistently.
Brandon Botham Try recalibrating your headset and controllers. Also make sure the camera is eye level and you are at least standing 5 ft away. During gameplay, if your hands get out of whack, look down, extend your arms, and shake the controllers. Then place them behind your back for a few secs and the hands should reorient themselves.
Well, it happened a couple times again so far tonight. I was able to get the hands to snap back eventually both times, but it took some fiddling with the camera and moving them around. I didnt really find any rhyme or reason to why it happened and what it took to fix it but at least i didnt have to exit the game entirely. I suppose if you put your hands out of view and maybe changing magics seems to mess with them but that shouldnt be I would think. I guess just try and avoid doing those things.
Dude wtf why you spend so much time talking about the game. We know skyrim. I wanna see you swing the dam weapon and how the gameplay works. The game is several years old many people go back to play it obviously. You got 2 mins of actual VR talk
Been loving this game in VR. Obviously there is a graphical downgrade but the immersion is rediculous. I don't like the move controls in the slightest. However with the controller it plays amazing. Using my head movement for the cross hairs has made me in to one hell of a bound bow assasin.
Yep, december 12 is for Vive (and nearly sure for Oculus as it should use SteamVR) but for PS VR it's not announced officially, but, a developer slipped out the info that is going to be a port for PS VR or at least they are trying to make the port. I think I understand what happens, FO4 is a new gen game, and to be honest the PS4 even the Pro is not precissely the most powerful machine for virtual reality, so I think they're trying to adapt the game and if the result looks good then they will officially announce the port.
Holy shtako! fingers crossed then.. I could easily see FO3 or NV running well on PSVR but FO4 yeah that is somewhat uncertain. Personally I'd love FO3 VR especially if they put in some tweaks from FO4
Clara Pagett Well, as Skyrim seems to be a true success I would not discard to see a FO:NV VR version, they already have the VR engine, so it must be a lot easier to port now their games.
rayzimmermin No it's not, there is a planned VR plugin for HL2, but it's still unreleased and nothing exists for HL1 unless you use VorpX, and it's really awful.
don't tell me their is not i have played it on my pc with my rift DK2 and it was not with vorpX www.reddit.com/r/Vive/comments/4m4o7k/you_can_still_play_half_life_2_in_native_vr_mode/ the same thing for half life one
rayzimmermin That's a very old plugin and it does not work as Valve updated the SteamVR sdk a long time ago and it is not compatible, so no there isn't. Also, even when it worked it was better to shoot yourself in a foot than playing it, the game isn't prepared for vr and the render was pure direct render, 0 optimization, even VorpX works better and is pure crap. At least the new plugin they are preparing really is a revamp with improved hdr, touch control support and so on.
Jason English i have the normal ps4 and yes it looks very blurry exept if you get really close to something .. i still Kinda enjoy it .. I just tell myself .. well im in tamriel and need Glasses ^^ .. lets go find some ;)
Its good to play to see what it can provide for a while but you really can't play for very long without getting dizzyness and eye trouble after a while and this game needs many many hours of gameplay to enjoy,i believe best version to play this is the PC without any VR stuff maybe the next Bethesda game will actually take better advantage of VR and the VR itself gets better
You haven't played it, this game sucks your life in VR, my first gameplay was 2 hours and I thought only 15 minutes had passed... Next session was 8 hours and so on, no kinetosis, no eye constrain or problem at all. You can spend as many hours as you want, this game does a magnificent job on the comfort side.
The game sucks your life no matter how you play it i enjoyed it on console and PC as well where with its mods it can be a whole different game!,i guess some people might handle to play it for long on VR and might get more used to it,but many can't,like myself and a friend of mine that has this and he won't play more than 1hour or so..when i tried it got "tired"in almost half that time and so i definately don't think that i could play it for long.
PS VR without doubt, Switch will only give you the same (a bit worse) experience as on a PS4, XO or PC but you can have it with you, PS VR gives you a full virtual world to explore, a total game changer.
If my opinion means anything i can tell you ive had like 3 copies of this game across pcs sonys and Microsoft's. This version right here destroys them all
Jon Mack if you want it for switch you're probably better off getting the non vr version on ps4. Cheaper and on a more powerful console. Unless you really want a portable version of course
Demeon Six I have it on ps4 and gonna sell it. Idc about graphics too much. Id be good w the portable or vr version, but Bethesda is only getting my money 1 last time.
Depends on your life style. If you're always on the go then the switch is probably for you. If you like to sit down and really get immersed and with VR it takes immersion to a new level. Then VR is the way to go.
Hey everyone!
How are you enjoying Skyrim VR so far?
- Sammy
I love this game. I played a bit if the remaster (10-15 hours) and I can safely say I'm happy to take a hit on graphics for the jump in immersion. Well done Bethesda. This remaster has me hooked.
One player described the difference like this: OG Skyrim is like using Google Street View and Skyrim VR is then actually going there in person.
I liked Skyrim on a TV, I finished it, but I had no desire to play all the quest. I think I logged 20-30 hours. With VR, I want to do everything, see everything, experience it all. It's so much better than I imagined.
Push Square as James Franco would say.. "Soooo Goooood."
Loving it so far, though there are a few things I hope they address with the next patch/update.
If anyone is on the fence about this. Videos on RUclips do absolutely no justice at all. The opening scene, on the cart with ulfric is honstely something I'll remember forever. I went into vr with the expectations of getting blown away and even that didn't prepare me for how incredible this experience is. Get off that fence and buy it
Agree, my first experience was no mans sky. It was awesome and still is
I play with a DS4, and I'm sorry, but this game is insane in VR especially when a dragon ambushes you, it's as if a dragon is really attacking you, look up to see it soaring and hear it's terrifying roar tear through the sky.
Totally agree, and I really really loved the Solus Project. what a fantastic game.
My favorite thing in Skyrim VR is riding horses, it's really really fun! it's amazing that VR can make such small things in normal games so enjoyable.
Not everyone realizes what a step forward this kind of game being able to have full locomotion with direct movement and gradual turning is. The motion controls have the ability to help you feel fully immersed with dual wielding and the ability to look in two different directions and fight enemies in multiple directions at one time. This game is truly an evolutionary step forward in VR and it is impressive that this evolution comes from the PlayStation VR!!!
...and a 6 year old game. It's incredible.
Christopher Harte very good point..this games a pioneer and will set the standard
So may i reiterate:
The game looks extremely pixilated, the sound isn't truly 3D (it sounds muffled and stereo), a lot of textures are really bad, and everything not close up is extremely blurry.
LOL
I am loving it, playing with ds4, full loco and no blinkers. Never played skyrim before and am so glad i get to experience it all new!
bookerbulldogs exactly how im playing it too! Once you have VR legs, the blinkers are more obstructive than anything
bookerbulldogs wow, ya that must be pretty dope
How do you disable the blinkers
james dale turn off the fov settings
If you take the time, the Move Controllers can be great fun. But walking backwards & shooting the bow are a hassle. That is the only bad thing about them. As you mentioned, the button layout takes some time getting used to, but nothing that an hour of playing doesn't fix. We need Move Controllers with an analogue stick.
Lwosveld I don't know why they won't let us use the move controller that had a joystick. I still have mine
The bow just has a learning curve, I always use the bow and have gotten really good with it, it is just more difficult because you have to learn how to aim and use it unlike in 2d where u just press a button.
Oh, the aiming is not the problem. Have you tried walking backwards while aiming with the move controllers?
Did that controller have a tracking light? Wasn't that a contraption like the Wii controller(Wii contr. & Nunchuk)?
yeah, you cant walk backwards and aim with the bow but you can with a sword (in right hand).
Cheers
It's pretty awesome playing Skyrim in VR. Can't wait for more AAA games in VR.
MsUltraBob it was confirmed earlier this year, and vice versa
Aurang really ? I read it will release just for the htc vive Bethesda still didn't confirm a version for the playstation I think.
MsUltraBob yeah the same Developer confirmed it when he accidentally confirmed move locomotion 2 weeks prior lmao. Of course he tried to backtrack on twitter. But he said what he said lmao.
Aurang nice sounds promising :)
I can’t wait to get my bundle 😭 I enjoyed fallout 4 as well so much and I’d kill to play that in vr even more than this
I don't understand so many peoples problems with move controls it works perfectly well you get used to it after playing for about half hour only issue I personally find is harder to sneak due to a set movement speed and swimming is tiring but I still play exclusively with move and find it much more immersive
Tristan Davies try attacking with your left hand while backing away or strafing. No smooth turning bothers me too
Yeah, swimming with the move controllers sucks. I avoid it whenever possible.
Amazing. It's like going into another dimension.
Loving it! Just wish I had more time to play.
Game is fucking awesome. I never got into skyrim back in the day so it doubly fun for me in vr
Whats really cool 2 me, is details i normally ran right by. Little details here and there. And sneaking and picking ppl off with the bow RULES now more than ever 8.5/10
iLLUMiNATiON RECORDZ
I was tripping out at the details too. There's even trails of ants on the ground in the forests.
Great review for a mindblowing game. Best VR game by far hands down. Immersion is mesmerizing and time flies while being in the virtual world.
I Love it, with the Move Controllers it works pretty good.
Florian same here, I can't play it with normal ds4 controller
Same, people that say they aren't good in the game just aren't smart enough to realise that it's them that has the problem, it's an alien control style that has to be learned, not just picked up & instantly used like every FPS cod clone game from the last 2 decades.
Oh god I just got skyrim on switch and now buying it again on VR when my headset and stuff arrives tomorrow!
So far playing Skyrim in VR has been an amazing experience :)
Best VR game to date! VR needed this game!
All in all, i'm loving it.
brachy pelman My favorite thing is bringing someone to their knees and slamming them in the head with a warhammer.
I own the oculus rift and love it. Most of the time I prefer to be playing on that but with such a fantastic RPG like Skyrim, I can easily say this is one of my favorite VR experiences to date. A must buy for fans of VR and The Elder Scrolls alike. 9.5/10
Eric Smith and what does the rift have to do with that comment? Just thought you would let people know you have one randomly ay?
James Onyekwere armour isn’t just for show it has a purpose
i never got around to playing skyrim for more than like 1-2 hours since it's not my kind of game.
but VR changes everything.
gonna wait for a PC release and dive in with all sorts of mods
After a few hours, the move controllers feel completely natural much to my surprise. I figured I'd try them a bit and switch to ds4 but I have no plans of even trying ds4.
XxTheGameCollectorxX
Yeah, it took about 3 hours to get right, but I can zip around pretty quickly now.
Brilliantly written review!
I just got the game last night and this is going to be my first ever play through of Skyrim! Not normally a fan of fantasy, but figure the vr will help bring me into this world!
When I walked into the stream of water in VR after the escape, it was surreal!
I'm so happy to see everyone is Enjoying Skyrim Vr as much if not more than me!
The first true AAA title for VR...finally.
RE7?
dirt rallly?
PSVR gets the better deal too, Skyrim comes with all DLC, vive gets Fallout 4 & no DLC.
Re7 ya damn fool
Dirt Rally, Project Cars, and Elite:dangerous are technically the first AAA titles on VR.
But Skyrim is a first for as a full large-scale expansive game (other than Pulsar:lost colony, which is kinda janky)(or vorpx, which is not perfect)
They need to add mirrors in towns or homes
A vr game withou mirrors is not a gud vr game, hahaha
I need Metal Gear Solid VR
5:22 I'm glad the draw distance is decent, looks good.
Can you swap sword and shield? So your sword is in your left hand? For use with the move controllers.
Great review I’m really enjoying the game and I agree the game really needs to be played with DS4 controller
What a great vr game love it 👍
The only complaint i have is you cant snipe people with bow in VR.
The best way to play this game is with motion controllers!
Virtual Arrow in the Knee
That's great reason not to go into work :D
Love this game. 4 issues though. Frame rate hitches, pop in, no smooth turning for move and water textures inconsistently rendering.
Hayate Gekko I doubt you really have played it...
You dont even have PSVR LOL
This is the best vr game you actually feel like ur inside it
I have been waiting for this my whole life. Still Can't wait, just got the ps4 pro, might do the skyrim vr bundle next
Standard controls here... loving it about 6 hours in!
I actually feel like the Move controllers are a great way to control the game. I always thought I would mess around with them briefly then move over to the DS4, but now that I've played for hours with them; I couldn't imagine playing any other way.
Played it on and off since getting it with the VR bundle for Xmas 2019 it's amazing
In the Dwarf kingdom with the frost spiders sooo good massive game
Is there an option in the settings to use one move controller paired with a navigator like during the era of Playstation 3? The navigator controller has a thumbstick, two triggers a D pad and two buttons. It would be the perfect set up for movements in Skyrim VR. I haven’t yet invested in PSVR purely because of the controllers lack of sticks. I think it’s frustrating and unacceptable.
It's brilliant!
That video is great thanks. Nice review so you got a like from me :)
Sorry for the long message but I just want to have my say and express my opinions on PSVR and Skyrim VR.
Skyrim in VR is insane. Love it
And when you try play Skyrim left handed is always messing up I don't understand what's going on
Thanks for a review that does the game some real justice. It's amazing how many professional games journalists completely botched their coverage of this game only to prove they have little idea how VR even works.
I do have to say that the dual shock 4 is NOT the way to play, in my opiniom. The archery experience with the move controllers alone makes using them a must.
Great fair review. I've been enjoying my copy.
Hey Sammy! Been following your pushsquare stuff for a while now from the US thanks for everything it's awesome
So worth the sixty bucks! After five minutes of playing I stopped to text my friends that I would not be available for at least the next 24 hrs. 😆
When this game comes out on PC I’m definitely jumping in VR.
Is there any noticeable difference in the visuals and frame rates between running on the standard ps4 and the Pro?
Yes. Big difference. Much sharper on the Pro.
Anyone want to see Witcher 3 in VR. Id pay for it.
TheLunarmonkey would be so awesome an oblivion vr remake would be cool too.
I have heard that if you hide the move controllers from the camera (ie behind your back) that can help to reset them while in game.
Brandon Botham
Check the compass HUD at the bottom of your view. The compass stays centered on the camera, so if you keep checking it, you should remain centered more consistently.
Brandon Botham
Try recalibrating your headset and controllers. Also make sure the camera is eye level and you are at least standing 5 ft away. During gameplay, if your hands get out of whack, look down, extend your arms, and shake the controllers. Then place them behind your back for a few secs and the hands should reorient themselves.
hey, thanks for the tips, Ill be sure to try them out tonight
Well, it happened a couple times again so far tonight. I was able to get the hands to snap back eventually both times, but it took some fiddling with the camera and moving them around. I didnt really find any rhyme or reason to why it happened and what it took to fix it but at least i didnt have to exit the game entirely. I suppose if you put your hands out of view and maybe changing magics seems to mess with them but that shouldnt be I would think. I guess just try and avoid doing those things.
J A R L B A L G R O O F
Dude wtf why you spend so much time talking about the game. We know skyrim. I wanna see you swing the dam weapon and how the gameplay works. The game is several years old many people go back to play it obviously. You got 2 mins of actual VR talk
"Third time" does not equal "literally endlessly"... Just FYI
Poetic words are the only words that can describe this..i had to get back into it for the thousandth time lol
Will it ever be released on PC for Oculus Rift and HTC Vive?
Happyfunrun just announced.
Been loving this game in VR. Obviously there is a graphical downgrade but the immersion is rediculous. I don't like the move controls in the slightest. However with the controller it plays amazing. Using my head movement for the cross hairs has made me in to one hell of a bound bow assasin.
Infamous books at 5:13 WTF do you mean? I don't understand.
Filth bugs, not books 😀
Sony not releasing move controllers with directional or analog is moronic on an epic scale.
When does fallout come out for vr?
December 12
Yes but for the Vive not PSVR surely?
Really hope rumors of move controllers with analog sticks is true
I have never played Skyrim, debating on picking it up for VR.
After your review guess what I'm Fiona pick up!
There was this one time.....at band camp.....
My copy came today! .. Cant wait to play tomoz .. :)
I think its time for HalfLife 2 to be converted now! :)
Nope, sorry but no, I don't want to play again Half Life 2 knowing there is never going to be a Half Life 3, too sad :(
half life 1 and 2 are already in vr for rift and HTC vive on steam
rayzimmermin No it's not, there is a planned VR plugin for HL2, but it's still unreleased and nothing exists for HL1 unless you use VorpX, and it's really awful.
don't tell me their is not i have played it on my pc with my rift DK2 and it was not with vorpX www.reddit.com/r/Vive/comments/4m4o7k/you_can_still_play_half_life_2_in_native_vr_mode/
the same thing for half life one
rayzimmermin That's a very old plugin and it does not work as Valve updated the SteamVR sdk a long time ago and it is not compatible, so no there isn't.
I don’t like rpg. But i really enjoy this game. Already played 50 hours. VR rules. VR is here to stay.
Hell yes it did
Am I the only one who has height issues in the game? I can barely look over a table...
Does it look like shit if you're not using ps4 pro? I want to get it but im still using old school ps4.
Jason English i have the normal ps4 and yes it looks very blurry exept if you get really close to something .. i still Kinda enjoy it .. I just tell myself .. well im in tamriel and need Glasses ^^ .. lets go find some ;)
reedeema damn that's a shame. Thank you though as I was about to go get it, now I think I'll wait.
looks like shit on the PS4 PRO too
Its good to play to see what it can provide for a while but you really can't play for very long without getting dizzyness and eye trouble after a while and this game needs many many hours of gameplay to enjoy,i believe best version to play this is the PC without any VR stuff maybe the next Bethesda game will actually take better advantage of VR and the VR itself gets better
Can't decide if I should get this for psvr or Nintendo switch.
This version right here destroys them all
Both
Can you play Skyrim VR without the VR? I’d like to have the freedom to choose
No dude, It's VR only
Yes, get a lot of drugs until you start having allucinations, then if you're luky you may end on Tamriel (or on a hospital).
Then you will have to purchase the original non-VR game.
Just don't put the ps vr on ur head, it still displays on ur tv
Booo I’m playing with move controllers and LOVING it!
I have it its amazing in vr
Imagine WolfStien, Call of Duty in VR wwoooo!!!!
Love it
I'm still undecided on if I should get it for the vr or switch 😣
Jon Mack if you want it for switch you're probably better off getting the non vr version on ps4. Cheaper and on a more powerful console. Unless you really want a portable version of course
Demeon Six I have it on ps4 and gonna sell it. Idc about graphics too much. Id be good w the portable or vr version, but Bethesda is only getting my money 1 last time.
Go VR, mobile will give you nothing new, VR will give you a full virtual world.
Both? It's two different experiences
Depends on your life style. If you're always on the go then the switch is probably for you.
If you like to sit down and really get immersed and with VR it takes immersion to a new level. Then VR is the way to go.
One thing I hate about vr is that why does it feel like your midget??????
In my VR it looks even worse than in this video. But I love it anyway.
